Good machine
by: nc parker

We have had this machine for over 10 years now. There have been problems but mostly due to not following manual procedures. The biggest flaw is the bleach dispenser. It does not release the bleach very well and sometimes retains the bleach from a previous wash. In the following wash this retained bleach will release and spot colored clothes. We seldom use bleach anymore.
We have had mildew problems before but this was remedied by putting bleach in the detergent dispenser and running machine through a short wash cycle. We have to do this maybe once a month.
The cycles are longer for front loaders. We adjusted.
The last issue we have had is the pump. I have had to replace the pump due to coins from unemptied pockets, lodging in the impeller. This cost me about $60, doing the replacement myself. All this being said we have used and abused this washer extensively. Overall I am satisfied with this machine. The clothes are cleaner, we can wash bigger loads, the water and electricity savings are significant and it is still working as good as it ever has now.

NOT A GOOD Purchase !!!!
by: Anonymous

I'm a working mother with four boys in the house and I do not have ALL day to sit and wait for a load of clothes to wash so I can immediately put them in the dryer. I previously owned a Kenmore top load and thought I was making a good decision on upgrading to the HE3t Steam front load washer WRONG !!!! I used to be able to put a load of clothes in the wash before leaving for work and upon returning home throw them in the dryer and my laundry stayed pretty much caught up. When I bought this the fist day I got the machine I put a load of clothes in came home for lunch went to throw them in the dryer and they stunk smelled like mildew so I called customer service and they advised me to run the clean cycle with bleach so I did and washed the clothes again and went back to work. Upon returning home the clothes had the same nasty smell so I rewashed and put immediately in the dryer and they were fine. I called customer service back and they said they would sent a tech out to check it out and nothing seemed to be wrong with it I just needed to leave the door cracked for 1 hr after clothes were removed after a month of trial and error I discovered that you could not leave the clothes in the washer for ANY extended time they had to be immediately put into the dryer or they would have a mildew smell. I was not at all happy with this machine because that meant I had to be here for the entire at the least 40 min cycle to put them in the dryer now I have to spend one day of weekend off to wash ALL day. I have in the mean time discovered when the washer drains there is a certain amount of water that does not completely drain and that is where the mildew smell comes from. If you put a small amount of bleach in every wash this will not happen but when it decides anytime that it wants to malfunction on the cycle and not wash you take a chance of the bleach running in on the clothes and ruining your clothes ?(which has happened several times)SO NOT A GOOD PURCHASE

piece of junk
by: Anonymous

I've been a loyal kenmore buyer for many years. My mom still has a 28 year old fridge that runs great. That being said, this washer is a piece of junk and i am very sorry i spent so much money on it. it locks, it quits mid cycle, it smells funny. I would consider long and hard before buying another kenmore product. seems like sears should be responsible for their cruddy products. don't but this model!!!

Incredible
by: Anonymous

Will never buy another one. After paying almost $900 for a front-loading HE3T model about three years ago, I now face paying another $550 to replace the door lock mechanism and control board. The door lock began to give me problems after about 18 months, and was temperamental ever since.

Sometimes it worked fine, other times--even on consecutive loads--would fail to latch or it would latch and refuse to unlock until some indeterminate time later.

Incredibly frustrating. I finally had to break the door in order to get clothes out and had to get service people out to take a look and eventually to order new parts.

You have described my exact situation with the exception of having to "break" the door.

constant musty smell
by: Anonymous

Should have known something was amiss with this machine. After 6 months, the bearing on the drum went and was replaced under warranty. We have never overloaded it and always have used HE detergent!

Now, only 4 years old, and it is throwing F06 codes, and it is either the Motor Control Unit (MCU) or the tach on the motor. Neither fix will be cheap.

If you do not remove the clothes immediately after their are washed, they will get a musty, molding smell and require re-washing. As well, random, grease like stains have appeared on many of the clothes.

Even though we leave the door open in between uses, it still has developed a musty smell and monthly cleaning cycles with bleach have done little to remove the smell.
The gray rubber gasket has also become discloured as well.

Overall, I would NOT buy another Kenmore washer!

love it
by: yvonne

Love my machine... had it a few years... was having problems with it... kept saying "suds"... found out we could take off the front bottom panel and take out one screw to remove the drain cover... found tons of stuff in there... so have many others after reading several web sites... it should be in the manual to check this once a year... how a 6x6 piece of cloth, a couple nerf darts and other stuff got in there i will never know... it is working great again and didn't cost a dime to fix (just about 1/2 hour time)

Stay Away

Blew a bearing in less than 2 years. I gave Sears a chance to do something about it. I even offered to buy a different model if they offered some kind of discount. Even a small discount. They gave me nothing.

Very disappointing.

SEVERE MOLD ISSUES
by: Anonymous

Unless you want SEVERE MOLD issues that result in illness and smelly laundry, etc., check all the comments web-wide about FRONT LOAD washers. This is a huge problem! My family including myself have had respiratory problems induced by the MOLD that quickly grows in these machines. I own the Kenmore Elite HE3T and am dumping it as fast as I can afford a top load machine. Please do yourself justice and check the facts before you buy.

door lock failure
by: Anonymous

I thought I was buying a high quality washer, but within 3 years we have had 3 door lock failures. The last repair quote was $260 but we opted to just buy the part from him and replace it ourselves. This ended up costing $130 for the guy to tell us that the same thing the error code said and for the $70 part. We also had to replace the rubber gasket after water leaked all over our room. This happened just 2 weeks after the warranty expired. Often times manufacturers will calculate mean time between failure modes and then make the warranty just under that so that you get it in the end!

Mildew Issue
by: Anonymous

I have noticed the mildew problems as well and discovered to leave the door a jar so the inside can air dry and haven't had any probelms since then. The machine is air tight when shut which causes the mildew problems. I have had the machine for over 2 years and not complaints a great addition from the top loader we had for over 15 yrs. Great Machine..........

Shouldn't a washer WASH!
by: Anonymous

I too have had some of the problems everyone else has. My biggest complaint, my clothes are not clean and they have a mildew smell. I also tried calling Sears while still under warranty. The guy came out three times telling me to try this and try that. Well they stalled me until my warranty was up and now I'm stuck with it. My guess is that they are trained to do just that. Will never buy from Sears again!!!

Kenmore Elite HE 3
by: Anonymous

Same issues with door lock failure and replacement, 3 service calls and about $300 later. Now only after 4 years I have been told that it will cost between 350 to 650 to replace parts. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't . Have gotten the run around at Sears. That's it for me a $1000 machine should last longer than 4 years. Last purchase at Sears and last Kenmore.

kenmore elite 3t washer & dryer not impressed
by: Anonymous

I recently had bought a kenmore elite 3t washer and dryer. loved the way it cut down my water bill but now it seem to be ripping holes in our clothes & staining them. we've owned them for 80 days I contacted the store I got them from they said to have service come out so I did I expressed my concern that my 90 days were going to be up soon & if this was going to continue to happen I was returning them. they said that wouldn't be a problem since I called the store before my 90 days were up. service man came out told me I was stuffing it to full. so I believed him not 2 days after he was their I washed 3 turtle necks & a few pairs of sock I wouldn't concider that over stuffing & my underarmour turtle neck has three big stains on it I'm not a happy with the product at all for the $$$ that I paid. I contacted the store of course I got the response of I'm going to make a few phone calls & call you back.

Bells and Whistles break down
by: Anonymous

I purchased this machine 3 years ago, after owning a top-loading Kenmore for 10 years. Talk about gilded hype! This machine is beautiful to look at but that is about it! Within the first year, one of the flanges in the tub broke clean off. I had to purchase a new tub to replace one cheap plastic part. Now the computer buttons are messing up and it won't go through a full cycle, but stops at 6 minutes before the cycle is to end. I have to unplug the machine (the only way I have figured out to get it out of its funk). Then I put it through a "custom" rinse cycle and a "custom" drain cycle. I don't recommend this machine to anyone.

Great for large family
by: Anonymous

The Kenmore elite have a simple, clean, and modern design. Two optional stands are available to elevate the machine height for added comfort. One drawer offers a pull out drawer for storage; however, the storage space is small and cannot hold the detergent upright.

I did not purchase the stand and do not find the machine height to be a problem. The design is very comfortable to use. The washer has a built in sensor which determines the amount of clothes and self regulates the water level needed eliminating a load size button. It has a large capacity and can be filled almost completely.

The options are basic and simple, and the buttons are easy to use. Once the wash cycle begins it is not possible to add more clothes without restarting the machine, which can be a problem when water has already been added. Wash options include express, hand wash, normal, heavy, whites, and sanitary. It also has a clean washer cycle, which is a short cycle to give the machine a quick wash, and a rinse and spin.

There are also option for 2nd rinses and extended spins. There are three soil levels options: heavy, normal, and light. Water temperatures options range from warm to extra hot, with an optional warm rinse, and there are five spin speeds ranging from no spin to high. There is also an end cycle signal which can be set to off, loud, or soft.

There is a pull out dispenser drawer with compartments for detergent, fabric softener, and bleach. The design of the drawer allows for a clean wash after the cycle and the drawer is always washed clean which does not allow for built up residue from the products. The machine washes very well. Items always come out clean and excess water removed.

A particularly nice feature is a timer on the washer which shows time remaining. The noise level on the washer is low. Overall, this is a great machine for the price. It is easy to use, without a lot of extras that rarely get used. I have had them for a year and never had a single problem, and the machine is highly used. I would highly recommend this washer for a large family with high use.

He3t Failer
by: KenmoreHater

Piece of junk. After only 4 years it catasrophically failed when a bolt came loose from a pulley for the belt/drum assembly. Over $600 to replace the entire assembly. Other problems include mildew smelling clothes, shredded clothes, and a lot of noise during the spin cycle. I will never by a front loading machine and will likely not by a Kenmore product ever again. A machine that costs over $1000 should fail in this short time period...
