In 1991 I was looking to purchase my first ever washing machine. I went to an appliance store named Smith's (they have since gone out of business) and was looking around.
I decided on a washing machine that had a brand name (GE) and I liked how it looked. Honestly, I had no idea what to look for in a washing machine, all I knew is that I wanted one.
A very nice saleman helped me out and started to ask very pointed questions, What type of clothes do you wash?, Are you going to have babies and use cloth diapers?,
How much room do you have in your laundry room?. Things I never thought about. He then did something I would never have believed, he recommended a cheaper, off brand washer.
My Roper AL5143VWO Washer has been the best appliance purchase I have ever made. It cost two hundred dollars less than the model I was looking at and it has survived two kids with cloth diapers (it has a great soak setting to really get the diapers clean), that grew into soccer, football and baseball kids. As well as the normal laundry of any household.
After 16 1/2 years, I have gone through 2 dryers and its to replace my dryer again, but my washer is still going strong! I have never had a single problem with it. It washes as well as it did on day one.
I would recommend my washer to anyone looking for a washing machine. It is a great machine and its great telling my son that the washer is older than he is (he is 15).So if you are looking for a good washer that will work for years, I would recommend a Roper!
