liquid automated dish washing soap for Whiter Clothes

I use liquid automated dish washing soap with lemon to brighten my dingy gray clothes. Just add 1/2 cup to any color fast load of clothes after the water has filled the washer, add regular laundry soap, wash as usual.

To save money I just wondered if you could use a small amount of dish washing liquid instead of laundry powder in the washing machine.

This can be a great alternative to using bleach which tends to be harsh and stains if it gets on other clothing.
