Product Overview

The LG WM2016CW can handle large loads with its 3.5 cubic feet capacity. This means that users can fit more clothes and garments into each load, saving more time and energy.

The side-loading design makes for ease and convenience when loading and unloading the washer. Practicality is one of the main reasons that the LG WM2016CW is such a stand-out washing machine. This washing machine is designed for either side-by-side configurations or stacked configurations.

Because the topside of the washer is flat and the controls have been moved to the front panel, the dryer can be stacked right on top of this washer to save space.

Also, the LG WM2016CW is certified by Energy Star, meaning that the product complies with the standards for energy efficiency. There's no need to worry about excessive use of energy or out-of-control utility bills. Here are some of the other features of the LG WM2016CW:

LoDecibel Quiet Operation

The LoDecibel Quiet Operation feature of the LG WM2016CW means that it operates at low noise levels. Because LG has taken extra precautions to reduce the noise and vibrations produced by the washer, users don't have to get worried about shaking and rocking noises coming from the laundry room when entertaining guests or trying to catch some sleep.

Dial-A-Cycle

The patented Dial-A-Cycle technology used in the LG WM2016CW makes setting the washer controls as easy as the turn of a knob. With such an intuitive design, users can literally dial in the settings. Another helpful feature in the LG WM2016CW control system is the electronic panel that allows users to view information on their washer settings.

SenseClean System

LG's SenseClean System is a very useful feature of LG WM2016CW. Basically, SenseClean is a water and energy conservation system that uses sensors to detect the size and the weight of the laundry load. Depending on the weight and size of the load, the washing machine adjusts the wash time and water level to achieve maximum efficiency and washing care for every load.

Cycles

This washing machine has nine cycle options, which are SpinSense, delay-wash, water plus, stain cycle, tub clean, rinse and spin, extra rinse, prewash, and quick cycle.

Aside from the nine main cycle options, users can also choose from five wash cycles: normal, cotton and towels, permanent press, hand wash, and delicates.

It also comes with five soil levels, eight spin speeds, and five wash/rinse water temperature levels.

Advantages

One of the advantages of the LG WM2016CW is its many settings and options that allow users to get each and every load perfect. Some owners of the LG WM2016CW were able to place their units on second floor without worrying about them shaking or rocking the floor.

Some washing machines can produce a lot of noise and movement, which can be disturbing, especially when on the second floor. Consumers also like this washing machine for its quiet and stable operation, thanks to the LoDecibel technology, which helps reduce the vibrations produced by the unit.

All in all, the LG WM2016CW is a good balance of practicality, convenience, and technology. It offers consumers a wide variety of features and a sizable capacity, all packed into a space-saving, energy-conserving package.

sad face

Disadvantages

The LG WM2016CW does not have some of the functions and options that can be found on other washing machine models. For example, some people may prefer steam cycle capabilities, which basically take care of ironing the clothes for them. Some people have had bad experiences with clothes smelling after using side-loading washers, like the LG WM2016CW.

Because side-loading washers normally use less water than top-loading washers, clothes may smell like mold or mildew, the type of smell that results from putting wet or damp clothes dry in the closet. Some users found a remedy to this problem of using the LG WM2016CW by properly configuring their settings and options according to the load type.

Final Thought

The LG WM2016CW is a quality washing machine with some great features and settings, but it may take some time for users to get accustomed to using this washer. The disadvantages of the LG WM2016CW are few and only minor. In fact, most of the problems that anyone can encounter can normally be fixed by tweaking the settings of the washer.

Anyone who is looking for a washing machine that can handle a decent load with ease, effectiveness, and efficiency should give this washing machine a try. The LG WM2016CW is a recommended product.

Don't buy this washer
by: Lothar Glein

Pros
- not one i'm afraid

Cons
- does not clean clothes well
- wastes water
- too sensitive

Rating
1 out of 5

This washer was highly rated before we went out and bought it and unfortunately it did not measure up to it's rating. It does not clean the clothes as well as the previously owned top loader.

We suspect that this washer does not use enough water to do the job properly. So, we tried to use the setting with extra water without success. We now pre-wash everything which requires two kinds of detergent, a HE dry powder and HE liquid with semi-success. We now add bleach to all of our white's which does work somewhat. We've tried to reduce the amount of detergent and increase the amount of detergent. Heavily soiled, clothes just do not get clean.

Another problem with this washer is the length of time it takes to complete a wash. It can take 4 times longer than the top loader we used to have. The problems do not end here. This washer was sold to us promising that it would be able to wash a queen size comforter. It does, but it often does not go into the spin cycle, especially if you add a few extra pieces of laundry to it.

This machine is way too sensitive to unbalanced loads. It simply refuses to go into the spin cycle. It takes removing any additional clothes added and sometimes repeated unloading and re-arranging of the comforter to get it going.

Think about this; you've got to take out and re-arrange a sloppy wet comforter just to get it to start the spin cycle. You might think this would be the end of the problem. NO!!!! To get it back into the spin cycle you have to reset the washing machine to a rinse cycle. Therefore it is wasting water just to get it back to spin dry the comforter. -----

We wish we had never bought this machine and kept the old "water wasting" top loader. We have not had any of the smelling problems though because we keep the door always wide open to air dry the washer after it has been used.

Don't buy this washer and don't let anyone tell you it's your water. Our water is extremely soft and should work with any washer. I hope I was able to warn some people with this true and unbiased assessment.

We have had our LG washer (WM2016CW) about 3 weeks now. I haven't quite made up my mind after reading all that can go wrong with this machine. All the hype about smelly clothes makes me a little nervous. I too leave the door open and wipe it dry. This is a big investment and I really hope I will be the one who doesn't have anything go wrong. So far though I am excited with all the features. I even sat in front of it like a child to watch the machine do its thing.I'll keep you posted if I change my mind.

Problem with load balance
by: Anonymous

We've had the LG WM2016CW since March of 2008 and like it very much.... until now. Although it gets the clothes cleaner than any top loader we ever had a problem has occured with the load balance. My wife washed a small throw rug (the kind you would put by a door to wipe your feet) and the drum doesn't want to go into the spin cycle.

This is the first time this has happened. I called LG and they said to add another small rug as the load my be out of balance. I added another small rug (the kind you put in front of a toliet) and the same thing hapened. It tried to go into the high spin but stops.

I purchased an extended waranty from Home Depot (where I had bought the washer) and they told me if the service tech came out and found everything was working OK, I would still get charged for the service call. I am now reluctant to schedule a service call. Seems like the auto-balance feature is not working or out of wack but I would be at the mercy of whatever the service tech would say.

Other than that the washer works great.

buying this machine biggest mistake
by: Anonymous

I purchased my LG washer/dryer aprox 14 months ago and I have never been so dissatisfied with any purchase in my life. My clothes do not come out clean you can still see the deodorant under the arms on dark colored clothing and the clothes smell like arm pits and my towels come out smelling rotten. I have purchased the high priced tub clean, run bleach through and empty cycle of hot water I have tried everything and nothing works. I do use the HE detergents. I have tried washing smaller and smaller loads but no change. I was told by a service rep to only use 3 tablespoons detergent and that would solve my problem, well I was already using little less than that. Would not recommend this washer to anyone.

good all rounder
by: Lisa

Pros
- Runs quietly
- gets clothes clean
- spins most of the water out, shortening drying time significantly.

Cons
- The liquid in the fabric softener tray can drain out(siphon created)into prewash tray
- Controls not the most user friendly.

Switching from a top loader to this washer has been great! I love that it runs with less energy and a lot less water, as well as the fact that the spin cycle wrings more water out of my clothes, so they take much less time to dry as well. The wash cycle is a bit longer, but I'm not doing any of the work, so it doesn't matter.

The drawer for loading the detergent, bleach and fabric softener saves me a step, and the need to keep an eye out for the rinse cycle. I chose this washer so I could stack a dryer on top of it and save some space, and because it had good reviews online and in Consumer Reports, and it hasn't disappointed.

The interface is a bit complicated, and it seems to have a pretty useless display of wash cycle progress, but the features are good to have once you read up and learn what they are.

It can hold many more clothes than the previous top loading model I owned, but it can be deceptive – I keep trying to wash large items, like pillows and comforters, and it rarely works out.

The wash cycle runs until it hits the first spin, and then it tries for nearly half an hour to spin before an alarm goes off. On rare occasions, I've been able to get it to balance properly, but I usually have to go without the spin cycle, and hang the items out to literally drip dry.

bounce in dryer
by: Shelley

I was having a problem with my dryer not drying well and taking up to three hours to dry load. When I called LG, I was told that I cannot use Bounce in the dryer because it coats the sensors which will then not work properly. My dryer problem turned out to be a clogged vent so it was not the dryer working improperly, however, I found out that I cannot use dryer sheets.

I love my LG
by: Amanda

Purchased at: Sears
Price Paid: $750
Date of Purchase: 02/17/08

This washer was purchased as a gift. Mine is white. I have seen many reviews wherein people have complained of the time it takes to do a load of laundry or how the washer spins and shake the house or how load it is…

For me it is just right.

Now to start, a load can take upwards of an hour. Though ANY high efficiency washer (even top loaders-I know we had a Kenmore Calypso when they first came out) will take a VERY long time. One it uses very little water and two it uses different detergent. Usually, I use the cotton setting with the highest tub spin speed and the dirtiest soil setting. Though, I have used the short wash feature, which is handy. And, the delicate setting. All performed well.

The noise, vibration and harshness factor did worry me to start but on my first wash all of my fears were washed away (get it. There was no more noise or vibration than one might experience with a normal washer. I used to sleep in the room behind the washer and it NEVER disturbed me on nights when I left the door open after I had started a load.

Regarding what some people have said it the minute usage of water…if extra water is not selected you cannot even see the suds from the soap…I haven’t had a hard time getting stains out, and I don’t use stain remover.

The one quirk is that you must leave the door open (unless you are going to continue washing) after a load is complete…20 minutes is usually good for me. This is due to the fact that it is front loading and ALL front loaders need to air dried at the end of cycles in order to prevent mildew and an foul odor from forming.

Cleaning seems to be a snap. There is a tub clean cycle that lasts an hour and there is a drain tube on the bottom left front that is sort of hard to get to that must be checked monthly (only takes 15 minutes). But wiping the inside of the door glass does seem to be important. I didn’t realize this until I found the washer was apparently leaking. After investigation I found that there was a build up of hair and lint and soap scum on the bottom of the glass that had dried preventing the rubber seal from sealing The glass when the door was closed. After I wiped it clean there was no longer a problem. NOTE: the manual clearly states to wipe the door and rubber seal inside the tub dry after EVERY LOAD. So…my bad!

Each button and the main wash type know beep or ding as they are selected. Though the one problem with this “digital” set-up is that if you turn the machine off on purpose or accidentally it does not remember where in the wash it was---unlike a traditional washer where the knobs and button are mechanical and a restart of the load would not be necessary.

It is definitely worth more than was paid for it and I don’t miss the Tromm Steam model that was nearly twice the price as the inside are pretty much the same. Like I said I love LG and my Tromm washer is no different!

my clothes smell bad
by: Betty

I purchased my LG Washer Model WM2016CW September 30, 2007 from Home Depot in Miami, Fl. I have not been happy with the results of my towels and cottons. They have a bad odor.

Called customer service more then once and have tried all their suggestions. I did bleach, white vinegar and Tub Clean. I dislike having to drain the pump filter. The (smell is horrible) and the room has to be sprayed.

I empty it every two weeks. I thought maybe that was the reason my clothes smelled so bad. Also advised to leave the door open so the rubber seal can dry to prevent mold.

I have discontinued using fabric softener in the dispenser and instead use Bounce in the dryer. This has helped to remove the bad smell. I am really disenchanted and wish I had not purchased this washer.

A normal wash load takes 53 minutes. Yes it uses less water, but more electricity.

direct drive motor is a plus
by: Ruth V Schwan

A very nice looking model, that doesn't take up alot of space, at 27 inches. And one of the best parts, one doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to operate it, buttons are easy enough to figure out.

With the 5 wash selections and temperature choices make it easy to wash about anything without messing up.

The walk away feature as i call it, is the 4 compartment detergent/softner/bleach and other tray, so you can load it all at once and run to another task without having to return to "feed" it something else.

If your tired of the water bill and the electric bill going up, this is for you. Being efficient at managing water and electric use, saves more money in a tight economy.

With its Sense Clean, it can determine whether your articles are really soiled or lightly soiled, adjusting its use of the water and amount of energy needed for the load.

Another big, big benefit is a direct drive motor, less moving parts is always good, as it almost illiminates major breakdowns.

As these types of motors have proven to be more reliable in all most all applications they are used on. For the cost of this machine, its a bargain and a half.

Moderately priced that even a penny pincher like me can afford to purchase it, and operate it with ease. The cost for the washer will pretty much pay for itself over the years with the benefit of less water, electricity and less loads to do, as you can cram alot into a 3.5 cubic foot washer.

As for it sitting closer to the floor, no biggy there, they have an optional base for it. If you can't bring yourself to purchase that, you can build one yourself with a few screws, some treated lumber and possibly some wall board and wall paper to spruce it up.

If your adding this to new construction home, the builder can build platforms into the floor to accommadate these with ease and very little expense.

Quiet and solid machine
by: Linda

My front loading LG washer, model WM2016CW, came with more features than I ever thought I’d use. Five of everything: wash cycles (Cotton/towels, normal, permanent press, dedicates and hand wash), water temperature settings, soil level settings, and spin speed.

Yet I’m finding now the extras really come in handy. I can save energy by choosing a lower soil level, and shorten the cycle time.

I can save on hot water bills by choosing the “tap cold” temperature setting, which, like it sounds, uses water directly from the cold tap–did you know that the “cold” setting on a washing machine is about 70 degrees and actually uses some hot water?

If your family is like mine and forever forgetting to empty their pockets before putting clothes in the hamper, you’ll appreciate the change catcher–a little bin at the bottom of the unit, where small items that come loose in the wash are captured.

The washer has a big door and is a bit higher off the ground than other front loaders I’ve owned, so it’s easy to load.

It’s quiet when it’s running. I’ve only had the washer for half a year, but it feels solid and I think it will last.

fast spin shakes violently
by: KM Shine

We bought this washing machine about 3 weeks ago from HomeDepot. They had free delivery after rebate and 10% off. Its also the only local store in our town so it worked out well.

We debated between this washer and the steam washer for almost double the price. So far I am not disappointed with the washer but I am not amazed either. When using hot water it has made several articles of clothing bleed.

I have switched to all cold water but sometimes hot is nice to try to get stains out. I am also disappointed that once a week you are suppose to run a tub clean cycle which takes an hour and a half.

So how are you really saving energy with this? It also spins so fast that no matter what you do it still seems to shake violently. On the positive side it does hold a lot of laundry and cleans fairly well.

It has taken some getting used to but overall its a good washing machine. If I hadn't bought it out of necessity I may be unhappy but we needed a new washing machine so I guess this is as good as any.

I am glad that I did not fall for the salesman's hype about the steam washer or I may have been really disappointed.

I like the 5 temperature settings
by: Anonymous

I used to always have basic washer and dryers while we lived in a 6000 square foot house and we just recently moved to a 4000 square foot house and has money to spend so I got a new washer and dryer and I have to say I love my washing machine a lot.

I like how it loads in the front and I can see what it is currently doing. I also like the LCD screen in the front that can tell me what size load is in, how much more time is left, and what part of the wash it is on such as Wash, Spinning, and rinsing.

My 2 kids, for some odd reason, like to eat there snack while sitting down in front of it watching the clothes spin around and around, it must be a kid thing. I also really like the capacity I can get 3 times the amount of stuff I used to be able to do in the same amount of time it's fabulous. Another thing I like is the dial on the front, it is so easy to use and even my youngest kid can use it easily, she's 11 and probably should have been able to do it a long time ago herself but that's besides the point.

I also like the matching Drying that you can buy separately. My washer and dryer room is now close to the kitchen so I can get a lot more laundry done to. When ever a load is done the washer and dryer play this really neat chimes song and they both have a different one and they remind me of Christmas carols.

I also like the five different temp levels so I can change it depending on what kind of clothes are in it. Another great thing is how I can change the spin speed as well so I do not damage any of our nice shirts. I think it is a whole lot cooler how I can pull out this one tray and put my soap and softener in all at the same time, in the same place while the washer puts it in at different times.

Maytag not all that great either

You say you would have bought a Maytag. I own the Neptune washer and dryer. I have had to have my washer repaired no less than 7 times and my dryer just went out. I have only owned them 9 years. Go to the blogs online and you will see how bad Maytag is now.

LG Model WM2016CW not consumer ready
by: Betty - Miami, Fl

I purchased my LG Model WM2016CW from Home Depot on Sept. 30, 2007. Big problem with towels and clothes smelling. Even tho we drain the pump filer located at the bottom of washer every two weeks, the clothes still stink. When the pump is drained, the water draining out has a tremendous smelly odor. So bad that I have to spray. Positively rediculous!

As far as I am concerned this washer was not ready to be sold on the market. Who wants to be bothered draining a pump filter and be exposed to such a horrible smell!! Also the Owners Manual advises to run TUB CLEAN. This cycle takes 1 hr. and 24 min. Increases the electric bill.

I have done everything customer service has advised me to do such as Put bleach in machine. Then I was told put in white vinegar and run machine. Run TUB CLEAN. So today I stopped putting in Downey softner and used Bounce in the dryer and my towels did not smell. So now what good is the dispenser if you can't use a fabric softner.

If I had to do it over, I would have purchased a Maytag like I had for 19 years. I am not a happy LG washing machine owner. The machine is not perfected if they have to have a drain pump filer to be emptied out all the time.
