Our Maytag Heavy Duty washer is just over 20 years old and the clutch is beginning to slip so I believe its time for a new one. I read the above reviews and if the Kenmores only last 10 years they I am definitely staying away from that. Many manufacturers produce several name brands in the same factory but that does not mean they use the same parts. Does anyone have a sudgestion about the best models out there today. I am not into bells and whistles just basics.

Washer Quit, considering new Kenmore by: Roland
My 10 year old washer (Kitchenaid) stopped in mid cycle also. Was able to finish load of clothes and
drain water by removing agitator whenever drain/
spin function was needed.
Not sure whether to buy new parts $200 or just get
a Whirlpool or Kenmore which I have had good exper-
ience with.

Washer stops in mid cycle by: Anonymous
A year or so ago my machine also stopped in mid cycle. I think the reason was a bad ball bearing pack. This unit doesn't have a belt, which is a good thing, I was told. A repairman was able to fix it.
Yesterday, it was in mid cycle and sounded like it was grinding... that was the transmission. Then it stopped. It started again and I risked running it in small bursts to drain the water.
we ended up paying a repair man to tell us the transmission had gone bad. Cost of repair would have been $450.
Now we're trying to find a new washer.
