    GE Profile washing machine
    by: d schmidt

This is the worst washing machine I have ever had in over 40 years! Suppose to be energy saving with low water level. The water does not even cover the clothes when I put little in. Takes over an hour to wash clothes. Clothes come out dirty. Dark clothes have soap residue on them so have to rinse them again by hand. Bought a 5 year warrantee but have not been able to talk to anyone to even have them come out to check it. If we do get a person on the phone we disconnected. Have been filling buckets to pour into the tub to get more water in which is hard on my arms. Should be a zero rating on this item.

    Washing machine ProBlems!
    by: Anonymous

I don't have this washing machine, but I recently purchased one of the new types with no agitator, and it sounds like two cinder blocks rubbing together, and certain things come out never touching WATER! It takes twice as long for it to go through the cycles, so therefore using MORE power! I hate these new types of washers! I want my old washer back which had different water levels to select from and DID clean the clothes! The GOVERNMENT even tells what kind of washing machines we can have, what is that all about?

    works great for me
    by: Anonymous

i have had unit for 3 years and never any of the problems noted.

i always put detergent in first. i always use a high water level even for medium loads. i often select - second rinse + extra spin time.

machine is quiet, gets clothes clean, extra spin time makes the drying time less. no mold, no moisture in the led display.

    Mold Problems
    by: Anonymous

We've been having horrible mold problems with this washer and can't seem to get rid of the smell. In addition, the washer shakes violently during the rinse cycles. I would actually be happier if this worthless washer just left the clothes dirty, instead of moldy!! Total piece of junk...stay away from GE and High Efficiency washers period!!

    WORST WASHER EVER
    by: Kellee

I would not buy this machine again. I thought my washing machine was broken and that was why I could never get enough water in it. I decided to see if anyone else was having the same problem and found this website. I guess it is normal but it just doesn't seem right, you need water to wash clothes.

Machine still a piece of junk!
    by: Debbie

Elaine, you use 1 teaspoon of detergent to clean a large load???? And that 1 tsp. washes your clothes, removes stains and smell? REALLY???? You either wash only a little bit of clothes or your clothes were never dirty to begin with. 1 tsp. of anything wouldn't clean an average wash, let alone a large wash nor a wash that included diapers, dirty jeans, thick towels, sheets. The only way I can save money on this machine is to wash only one to two loads per week and they have to be small AND I have to use the ex-large setting to get any water into the machine. I wonder why you had a repairman? Doesn't he/she come into play after something is broke? My repairmen said that I should put detergent down before putting in wash, then some more on top. He showed me a trick to getting more water into the machine. Common sense would tell you that you that clothes can't soak in NO water. This machine model is a lemon with men being gaga over all the technology.

    Great Washer!
    by: Elaine

I read these reviews and got very scared. I asked the GE Repairman about these complaints and he recommended 1 Teaspoon of HE detergent plus an extra rinse cycle. The Appliance center recommends 1/2 the recommended amount of detergent.
I use about 1 teaspoon and I LOVE THIS WASHER!!! I love not having an agitator or guessing the size of the load. It is wonderful!

    by: Anonymous

Two years and I had to set this one on the curb. after a few repairs (eating belts like crazy) the Transmission went completely out. This has been absolutely the worst major appliance I have ever owned! I will never by a GE appliance ever again. I paid good money and expected a good quality machine instead, I set it out on the curb like redneck lawn art.

    Vindicated!!
    by: Anonymous

My husband and I have both been going crazy with this washing machine and agree that it is the WORST machine we have ever experienced and together we must have owned and used at least 10 washing machines over the years! The previous reviews totally vindicate our thoughts and experiences with this machine. Our new home purchase included the builder purchasing the washer/dryer and because it is a "green" energy efficient house that is very well built, we unfortunately assumed they would make a good choice. UGH!! All the previous comments are true. Clothes do not get clean and also come out so wrinkled that high heat drying doesn't remove the wrinkles. My clothes are beat up by this machine and look dirty and dingy.
We finally complained and a GE repair man is coming out on Friday. I can see from all the previous comments that there is no fixing this machine. It sounds like a good idea but in practice is inefficient as you must wash things several times to get them half way clean. How can anything get clean if it doesn't get wet and have a chance to have soap and water run through it. Then the rinse cycle is so bad all the dirt stays on the clothes.
We are disgusted with this machine and the matching dryer that takes 2 80 minute cycles to dry one set of sheets.
    DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!!

Unfortunately, I didn't google this site before buying this awful, inefficient, water and electricity wasting inefficient machine. I was heartbroken when I realized how unclean and lint comvered my laundry was after washing it in my new machine. I don't see how having to use 2 loads on this extremely long cycle can be saving anything! And, who has 2 or more hours to do one load of laundry????

    Worst ever washer
    by: liz

This is the worst washer I have ever used. I followed all the ridiculous instructions provided by GE and my clothes still came out with dirt and detergent left on the clothes. I contacted GE and was offered 2 options for resolution: (1)swap out the high efficiency (he) model I paid extra for with the cheaper traditional model or (2) pay another $300 for the Harmony upgrade model. Never mind that I paid extra for the (he) model to save money on water and impact on the environment and now I am putting another washer in a landfill and not saving money on my bill. Seems like they should refund the equivalent cost I paid to upgrade to the (he) model. I am stuck with this washer/dryer but will NOT be purchasing any further GE appliances/products in the future. Very dissatisfied customer!

    Washing acting up again
    by: Debbie

After all the hassle with getting the drum changed the washer has taken to turning out dingy clothes. The whites come out a grey and other colors have residue on them. The other comment that she was told to dry the clothes with the residue is just plain stupid--yeah you want to heat set stains. GE will never admit this is a poor design and they'll continue to lower the price so someone will buy it.

The model I have sounds like the same washer. It is the worst washer ever. It is the one labeled Colossall size and won't even clean clothes loaded 4 " high in the tub. If we load it higher than the very short agitator they don't even get wet.

    The worst washing machine ever
    by: Another Anonymous

I agree with all the above comments. This is the 4th washing machine that I have owned and hate it. The black clothes have residue all over them and have to be rewashed 2 or 3 times. GE Customer Service said clothes have to be put in the dryer to get rid of the residue. Why should I put clothes in the dryer if I don't want to? Again a waste of energy.

I have put the same load of towels on 2 different cycles and the water level is different. Should it not be the same if the weight is the same.

Sorry that I didn't research it before buying it.

The only good thing about the washer is the model number is in a easy place to read when needed to call service.

    GE complain website
    by: Debbie

I've moved my rating to 3 stars but this is after writing the complaint to GE (I found the email address on webpage), I getting a response from their answer service (answerctr@ge.com ). The person named Michelle said they would send out a technician (at no cost to me) to see if there was something wrong with the machine.

They also sent to me a new part (the center part which had more holes up and down )the agitator part around the fabric softener. The repairman said he hadn't seen the new part but installed it anyway. Then he checked the front and found it was too loose and some rod was bent. He also replaced that. He showed me how to get more water in the machine, (set it between super wash and sensor wash) but it will never fill up.

Also, he said you absolutely cannot cover the fabric softener spot--all the clothes have to be around the outside. If that is the case, then the machine is no bigger than an ordinary 3.4 cu.fit, it just looks bigger but doesn't hold more clothes. I did what he said, and it does seem to wash better but then I can't do a double load. Again this isn't much bigger than my old GE. So far though, the sound has diminished a bit and clothes are clean with one wash.

I was surprised that GE actually answered me, and wanted to fix the problem. It still is a poor design and apparently the sales people (even though my repairmen said the sales people undergo lots of training) just want to sell to make a commission. Maybe the real trouble was (is) the design of the agitator we all seem to have in our washers. See if you can get a new agitator and if that makes a difference.

I still am not a fan of this washer and looked at Sear's Elite dryers as I will not replace my old GE dryer with this model. Oh well, they won't match, but maybe I'll be able to get a dryer that will work.

Thanks, Debbie, for the link to that site. Although they may not do anything, I am hoping that it will go the way of car recalls. If enough people complain about it, maybe they can recall this piece of garbage. Maybe we can get lucky in this litigious society and someone can start one of those class action suits, where we get a little paper in the mail saying we are getting a piece of the money "stolen" for a worthless piece of metal.

Don't let this happen to you
    by: Unhappy

I have owned this machine for 11 months and it just keeps getting worse. My clothes are obviously not getting clean as over time they have started to smell and gray. The machine is also getting noisier and developing more bad habits. This machine is a total piece of junk! I have had it serviced and the technician just laughed and said that I was just one of many that got stuck with this contraption. Apparently this machine was produced because our government required GE to produce a certain quantity of "energy efficient" machines and this was their answer. Great, less water, so I now have to wash clothes 2 and 3 times -- Yea, that's being energy efficient. How stupid of them and how stupid of me for buying this thing!

    not a new owner
    by: Debbie

I am not a new owner of this machine as I have had it for over a year and a half. And during that time, I've been looking for away to report just how sorry the machine is. I finally found the website to the GE manufacturer to register my complain. The clothes may come out clean for a while, but smell them, and if they are really soiled you can't fill the machine at all. Good luck to anyone who purchases this machine. If you just wanted something to do a simple wash an Estate would work just fine. Whatever you buy, this machine isn't worth it.

Folks finally found GE appliance site to complain. Go to http://www.geappliances.com and write your review. Of course they won't do anything but at least I let them know that they are a lying bunch of SOB's. Just complaining on other sites that are not GE doesn't even mean they get to see them. I hope that at least will read it and laugh since that is what they probably do anyway. Nobody ever accused them of having integrity and ethic.

should have listened to these comments
    by: Anonymous

I read all these comments before buying this washer anyway(on the recommendation of an appliance store that I trust.) The comments were all written so recently that I thought perhaps they were all written by one disgruntled owner. I dont' have a problem yet with whether my clothes are being cleaned- I think they are, and I am trying to adjust to this 'low water' idea- but I am going crazy with the sound the machine makes. When it agitates, it goes "WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP" and if I had to live with this machine on my first floor or near my living space, I would have to get rid of it, because the sound is so incredibly annoying.

Just don't understand how any company would let this model go into the stores. How do you "soak" clothes where there is no water? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out and apparently their "engineers" are too stupid to even understand that.

    What Have I Done
    by: Kevin

I just purchased this washer from a reputable appliance dealer on Tuesday 12-21-10. We are waiting for it to come to the store on Thursday. After reading the two reviews on here I think I'm going to return to the store in the morning and get a full refund before I make a $399 mistake!! Thanks for the heads up!!! My wife and I are very upset as we almost burned our house down when our five year old Maytag washer froze up Monday night causing the motor to burn up and fill our entire laundry room with smoke. The unit was just out of warranty on Dec 3 2010. Isn't that just typical. The warranty place said sorry and hung up the phone. I will never buy another Whirlpool/Maytag product as long as I live. They used to have a great reputation but just like everything else they are made as cheap as possible and sold for maximun profit!!!!!

    Aweful waste of money
    by: Connie

I agree with the last post. The whole idea of saving water is redundant because I need to either do a second rinse or a second wash, wish uses more water than just letting the washer fill all the way and do its thing. I also wanted a washer with no middle agitator. I expected the washer to at least do it's washing machine dance, but all it does is slowly spin around, like an elderly person walking with a walker, a few seconds in between. No tumbler, no shake, no water, what is the point of this washer? Wasted metal for a high price and I can't even return the damned thing!! I plan on letting the world know this machine is a waste of money by posting on as many comment threads as I can. Save your money and go with the simple old school washers.

A nachine built by men who never do the laundry!
    by: Debbie

This is absolutely the WORST washer that could be made. I think even the cheap Estate washers must do a better job than this model. I can only think men designed this because they NEVER wash clothes and don't have a clue as to what a washer should do. Apparently they were enthralled with the high tech aspect of the machine, as it has lots of bells and whistles but the finished product--getting really clean clothes seems to have escaped their notice. This machine is very noisy, does not clean well at all, even when you follow the directions. It doesn't matter if you fill the tub or do a little wash, clothes just don't come out clean. Yes it uses a little amount of water --so what if your clothes smell and have to be rewashed. Even the cheaper washers do a better job. If clothes are really soiled I always have to rewash them--so so much for saving water. Besides, how do you SOAK clothes that are not covered in water? The soak cycle is a joke, as the top clothes sit there with no water --kind of like taking a bath from a dripping fountain. This machine won't let you fill the tub if you want to soak clothes or use it to just bleach or dye something. You have to pick a clothes level, small, medium, large, ex-large or let the machine decide (of course the sensor part is probably what enthralled the designers) but nowhere can you fill the tub and put in things to soak, dye, etc. and leave alone for awhile. Nor can you open the top to add clothes without stopping the whole machine. Even that takes a minute or two for the machine to stop. Then to start it takes more than another minute and you're left wondering if the machine is ever going to start up again. Then if you turn it off, and start it again, it EMPTIES the tub instead of just picking up and washing. Again another waste of time and money. This machine is a nightmare. I've had another GE for 14 yrs and loved it. I wanted a machine that didn't have the center agitator but never did I expect this madness. I should have gone to Maytag and seen the machine in action.

I see that Sears and all other appliance places are now selling this washer and dryer for the original price of the washer. I know why--this is just a piece of crap and they're trying to get rid of them once and for all.
