Dry Clothes for Five Minutes then Hang

by teresa
(indiana)

I do not like to dry my clothes all of the way because of possible shrinkage. But I have found that if you just hang them to dry straight from the washer they are too wrinkly. So I dry my loads of clothes for approximately five minutes then hang them to dry the rest of the way. This gets rid of the wrinkles and it saves energy too. I do all of my clothes this way now!

I agree!

Not only does this prevent shrinking, it also saves energy and money by using the dryer for shorter periods of time. I bought an inexpensive wooden clothes drying rack at Walmart and use it to dry the pieces of clothing which do not hang such as under garments, socks, and towels.

Why Didn't I Think of That?
by: Anonymous

I'm definitely going to employ this tactic during my next laundry day! Some of my clothes have been shrinking, but I am not a fan of totally hanging everything because of the wrinkles (I'm absolutely awful and slow at ironing). Thanks for the tip!

wonderful idea
by: Anonymous

This is a great idea and five minutes in the dryer will take care of most wrinkles. You can also put a piece of clothing on top of the dry (say if you're drying towels) to dry the item of clothing faster. Just make sure to smooth out the wrinkles ahead of time.

Great Idea!
by: Sheila

What a great idea! I love hanging my clothes out to dry, but found I had to iron more. I never thought of drying for a little while first. I can't wait to try this. Thanks for a great idea!

Saves clothes as well as money!
by: Anonymous

This is great for items like t-shirts that can really shrink if dried too long but it is even more important for t-shirts with any of those vinyl or embossed logos on them. One or two full cycles in the dryer will cause these to crack and peel off so this method really helps get them started drying but keeps these logos intact - after all, the logo is what you bought the t-shirt for! Great tip

Saves time and money
by: Anonymous

This is an excellent tip since it saves you both time and money. No ironing necessary and less energy used for your dryer and iron.
I have been doing this for 25 years. You only need to keep the clothes in the dryer for about 5 minutes, then remove them one at a time and put them damp but warm on a hanger or if it is a strechy material I will hang it upside down from my ironing board till dry to prevent shoulder bumps. Make sure you smooth the wrinkles and they will dry beautifully.
