whirlpool cabrio

by GrayLadyIce

A few months ago, I was having a conversation with a friend and mentioned how tired I was of having to lug my laundry to a laundry mat all the time. She suggested getting my own washer. Specifically a Whirlpool washer.

I knew this would be a good idea. So I shopped around until I found the Whirlpool Cabrio HE washer. I couldn't wait to try it out.

I didn't really expect the washer to perform that much differently than the washers at the laundry mat. Imagine my surprise when the first load came out and all my white socks were so much cleaner than what I was used to seeing! This was a fantastic surprise for me.

Especially since I hadn't even changed my detergent, but my clothes were alot better than when I went to the laundrymat. And they smelled better too! I went wild with doing the laundry that day.

I washed all my clothes, the bedding, the towels, everything! No matter what I put in the washer, it came out better looking than when it went in.

Even my husband's greasy dirt stained clothes from work were coming out cleaner. This washing machine has been a great compliment to our house and I plan to keep it until it can no longer function.

not enough water to wash clothes
by: Anonymous

I agree, worst decision we've ever made in buying a major home appliance. My main concern about the whirlpool Caprio, and probably any water efficient washer, is there is just not enough water to wash the clothes! I had to put the wash on pause to add something once and was amazed that there was barely enough water to soak what was in there, I mean come on, clothes need water to tumble around in with the soap to clean them. I'm secretly hoping this thing breaks down so we can get rid of it and buy a new one.

Does not work
by: Anonymous

I bought the Whirlpool Cabrio with the see through lid. I was so excited to start using it. A step up from my Roper, for sure. A brand new washer with all the buttons, HE, wow this thing does every thing, I can through my bed cloths in, set this and it will be done when I get home, still fresh, then I can dry them while I am fixing dinner, WOW like I'm not even doing laundry. I did the first load, my comforter, I couldn't wash it in my old washer,my first thought was, wow 1 hour to wash this thing, ok it should be really clean, so I kept checking and watching wondering when it was going to get the comforter totally wet, ok it is rinsing, and still dry on top. Ok, I must have a really big comforter. 2nd load, 2 twin size covers, ok still dry on top, washing cycle barely moving the cloths. 3nd load, 1 twin, bulk cycle, now I know it will really get the cloths moving and wet, no still dry spots and barely turning. Ok, let me reread the instructions on how to do laundry, and let me google, maybe it is because it is a HE. 4th load, 3 pair of jeans 3 shirts and few small items, loosely loaded around the edges, no dry spots, but the cloths barely moving, ready to rinse and the cloths barely moved, how in the hell are these cloths getting clean, and how is this HE, I will be doing 4x as many loads and the cycle is about 1 hour, so running 2x as long. I'm telling my husband all these things on the phone. If this is HE, I can't believe people buy these things, I guess people buy them and by the time they realize how bad it is, they feel stuck. Well not me. I will not be stuck with this thing. So the next day while my husband was there, I did a few loads and had him to watch it, well needless to say, he agreed. I called Lowes and they were very nice and willing to give my money back and was hoping I would still purchase from them, and I did, but not before I did some research and decided to go with the GE non HE. Don't know if all HE work like this, but I will stick with a non HE.

Junk
by: Augustine hinman

I bought 2 of these junk one I bought in 2009 after 2 years it wouldn't spin out and lip kept clicking . I read the manually to trouble shoot . Did all it said , unplug it and even I
It still wouln't do nothing then left it unplug over night then I would be ok and then I made sure the machine was level because it gets uneven and it with with a small load and it's in even too but all the time kept mess up. It a top loader maching and I has a 5 year warrent on it but i called and I'am not paying a sevice call so I ask a guy at lowes where I bought it from he said it most likey the lid do I mess with it and still no luck still mess up one day it really puss me off has to take my wet dirty close to the laundry mat . Anyway I bought the dryer too the same day . It's ok . So after dealing with this garabage I figure I had a bad one so last year I bought another one but. Little different it has no place to put you laundry soap but I use the little tide pods HE and a ball for my softer anyways less tgN a year the thing won't drain out have to unplug and play with it sometimes the next day it will work , and the clothes don't look clean or smell good .. Whirpool you need to come and fixed the problems without a service call that BS this time I didn't buy a 5 year warrenty JUNK thanks my email is malloyspring@yahoo.com

Not good
by: Lynn

Just like all of you, I bought the Cabrio 900 series last year (2013). Immediately I had a tech come out to check on the buzzer for the dryer, since the ONLY reason I buy a dryer is for a buzzer to tell me to come empty it!! The buzzer is so quiet I can barely hear it when I'm 10' away!!!! The washer buzzer is extremely loud, of course, and I don't care about the washer! Anyway, the tech replaced the motherboard and it was still the same. He called Whirlpool and was told that the "new" machines have a louder buzzer, sorry. First fail.
Then, when I did my first "dark clothes" wash, I noticed all this white stuff in clumps all over.....and I use LIQUID detergent! I wondered what the rest my light colored loads looked like, since I can't see the soap on the light colors. I was not happy. Still aren't to this day. I hate having to rinse everything over.
Now, yesterday I purchased a PURE WASH system for $300 that attaches to the washing machine but only to the cold water hose. You can't use hot water with it due to the water being "ionized" through it....PLUS you don't use any detergent with it either. (Look it up on-line). Anyway, guess what, even without using any detergent, my dark clothes STILL had those soap "looking" stains them! So what is the answer? This machine is doing something to our clothes but damned if I can figure out what it is. I DO know that all of my really nice towels are now shredded around the edges, and I am NOT happy. The worst part is that with the Pure Wash system, I wasted a LOT of money on this machine since I can only use the NORMAL cycle for every load since there is no hot water going into the washer. I tried using the "Towel" cycle for a load of towels, just hoping that it would agitate better than just a "Normal" cycle, but the machine overrode the COLD button looking for hot water and just shut off. Paid a lot of money when it turns out all I needed was the cheapest washer available to use the pure wash system!
PS....I really like that I no longer have to buy detergent OR dryer sheets anymore, but I still have to do spot soaking before washing anything with a stain. Otherwise, I love the system, NOT the washer or dryer, worst buy ever!
Please include me in a class action if one ever comes along....lcole52000@yahoo.com
THanks.

sounds like a jet engine when spins...very fast and out of control
by: Betty

Our 5 year old Cabrio Whirlpool washer has been wonderful until last week when it started spinning crazy. It is so loud you can hear it everywhere in the house. It sounds like a jet taking off in the house.
I was told by a repairman it would cost at least $500.00 to $700.00 to repair and I most likely should get a new one. We are major fans of Whirpool but what happened to appliances that last. Is there a lemon law for faulty appliances? Why is there no recall if others are also having this problem?
Use to be loyal Whirlpool customer,
Betty

Who knew I bought a Jet Engine for a Washer
by: Anonymous

All I can say is prepare for the noise. I bought the engine Feb. 2009, 5 years later I have a hunk of junk called a washer. This has completely deterred me from buying any whirlpool appliance. It started with the bearings going out around year 2, that's when the engine started, at year 4 I'm assuming the vibration cased a crack somewhere and it constantly leaks. I spent good money at that time to get this washer so I'm using it until it doesn't work anymore. Oh for those of you who think contacting whirlpool is going to help HA! Good Luck there warranty, customer service and appliances suck.

I'll start off by saying, many complaints related to this machine may have some merit. However, after playing around with water temperatures, soaps, and loading, I'll tell you it can do a good job. The machine washed the dirtiest baseball pants, oily jeans, and smelly gym clothes. I found ERA seems to have the better results on the " cool" setting. With loading, take your time. Load the drum evenly around the outside only and don't go above the top lip. Oh, I I do a load every day almost for over a year now. The thing have been great.

Total Junk
by: Anonymous

I bought a set last summer. The pretty platinum/silver top loader. The set is really pretty. You just can't place a full load in it or else you clothes will look the same as you put them in. The washer truly sucks. My husband works outside and his clothes are truly dirty. I have to deep soak and wash his clothes about 2 more times before they become presentable. I had a old maytag washer/dryer for over 16 years. It use to wash all my clothes in one wash/full load and had no problems, but it played out. I bought this whirlpool junk and it was the worst decision ever. How is it an energy saver when you have to wash your clothes almost triple times before they become clean? Don't buy.

This machine is awful. It doesn't clean, leaves residue on clothes. Sometimes have to wash clothes two and three times (so much for saving on water). I feel gross just wearing my underclothes. At least the heat from the dryer kills the germs on my clothes. It smells like sewer and I can't find from where...have tried Affresh...3x in a row! Bleach doesn't even get rid of the smell.

I miss my old wash machine...bought it used and had it for 15 years...very few problems, AND-MY CLOTHES WERE CLEAN!!! THIS SUCKS WHIRLPOOL!! YOU SCAMMED A BUNCH OF MONEY OUT OF A LOT OF PEOPLE! Don't purchase this machine!!!!!! Hate it! It stopped pumping last night. Oh well, I've been wearing dirty clothes for 4 years now...

Cabrio Platinum No Good
by: LF Lane

Hi,

My wife has been complaining about holes in our clothes after washing the clothes in our Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum. I didn't believe her at first, but sure enough, she showed me and there they were. Brand new shirts come out of the washer with small holes in them. She has read the manual several times, used gentle cycle, loaded loosely around the edges to not avail.

We thought Whirlpool was a good name when we bought it, but apparently we were very mistaken. I will never by another Whirlpool appliance again.

Whirlpool Cabrio with all it's fancy sensors is a piece of Sh*%. 2 years old and I can't get the thing to complete a cycle. I have to pause and unpause or unplug the machine or restart on a drain and spin cycle. Then it fails again and I get to start over. This all requires constant babysitting to determine if it will actually run load for us today. Should have kept my old washer.

Unbalanced

My quarter century Maytag washer died and I decided to splurge on a new one that would be low maintenance for the rest of my life--spent $600 on a Whirlpool cabrio which for two years has been a NIGHTMARE. Almost cannot do a load of any size or configuration without unbalancing and shaking itself across the floor, making a noise like incoming artillery. As soon as I can afford it I'm cutting my loses, buying another model and gifting this shameless piece of @@@@ to some poor soul at the Good will. At least they won't have to pay much.

Wow ! I'm not surprised to see all the problems here. I've had my cabrio for 3 years. I thought when clothes came out of the washer with dry spots that it was in my mind. I finally realized if you want your clothes to get washed, you cannot use the casual or other economical settings so what's the point. One thing that's not a figment of my imagination is my totally rusted thru bleach dispenser. Unfortunately, my husband is disabled and I can't afford a real washing machine anytime soon. So call me stuck with my rusty wreck!

whirlpool cabrio washer UL problem solved
by: Anonymous

As I see from reading reviews multiple people have the same problem I have within the last 12 minutes of wash cycle it goes UL and will not complete wash cycle. Whirlpool company as everyone else states is of no help, their techs cannot even figure out the problem! Well my husband who is known to fix anything or it is junk has figured out the problem---if you take the stainless steel wash tub completely out of the washer you'll find that the white plastic molded on rings are full of water!!! Not suppose to be. Whirlpool could care less other than my husband solved their manufacturing mistake. Drilled out manufacture plugs, drained out the water and resealed washer works properly now. Selling the piece of shit and going to buy a sears Kenmore again--had one for 20yrs before the cabrio never called a repair man of even needed one for that matter!

STEP AWAY FROM THIS MACHINE!
by: Anonymous

I have had this damn washer for almost 7years. I HATE IT! We paid close to $2000 for the set, so I have just dealt with it.
It does NOT ever get my clothes clean. Small loads, large loads, delicate, etc -doesn't matter.
I have 3 children, 3 dogs and a husband that owns an oil company. Not the cleanest occupation. Sometimes I have to wash a load 2 or 3 times, or separate a load and rewash it, or wash something completely by itself. Now it has started walking across the floor when spinning. It makes such a loud knocking noise -and we have checked everything. Forget it. I will NEVER BUY WHIRLPOOL again. NEVER.

I've only had my machine a little under 2 years. My lid lock all of a sudden stopped working. I just washed clothes on Friday. My husband calls me Saturday and says that all he hears is clicking and the lid lock won't work. Which means the stupid thing won't turn on!! I have looked at several sites and there is no way to bypass it. I had a crappy machine that I bought used and it worked fine for 6 years until it gave way but no telling how long the previous owner had it before me. I bought the whirlpool because it was a brand I knew and thought I could trust but I barely got 2 years out of the $800 I spent. I'm chucking this crap and buying something different!!

My washer is 2 years old. It never quite washed clothes well. Some clothes were still dry after a complete wash cycle. A lot of darks had white residue after a wash even with a 2nd rinse.

Now 2 years later the spin cycle is broken and the lid lock feature does not work. I can open the lid during a wash cycle once it hits the spin mode.

I'm going to buy a different washer, not whirlpool, instead of repairing this piece of junk.

I paid $1000 for my Cabrio and it broke several times in less than 6 months. Service calls were expensive and Whirlpool Customer Service would not help me - trying to get them to resolve the obviously defective machine became bad for my health because my blood pressure would soar just out of anger and frustration at the way they treated me.

Finally I wrapped the washer in a tarp and headed to Sears to buy the cheapest washer they had.
No more bad smell - No more stuck on cycles - No more locked lid - No more dry clothes on top that had never been touched by water - No more F1 error - No more calls and money to repair people.

If there is a class action lawsuit could someone please notify me - THANKS!

Whirlpool cabrio a piece of worthless engineering
by: Benny Dijong

I own this piece of machine only 24 months, the first think if anyone noticed is that some of the clothes that are on top of the pile can come out dry after a wash. What good is efficient when your clothes are not washed. Just a couple of days ago, the washer drain but would not spin dry. The lid lock flash and then turn off after 1-2 minutes.

I really do not make head or tail of the technology of this top load. it does not turn the clothes from bottom to top and the water level is never high enough to cover the load.

Whoever design this piece of shit should be shot dead for fooling everyone. This is fraud.

by: Gary Culbertson

FIRST of all I would like to state: BUYER BEWARE...There I said it.. left my name, heck here's my email too thunderhorse47@hotmail.com; because I'm not anonymous.. I want Whirlpool to know there are people out there willing to stand up for R&D?? where did that go?? What was the thought process when this piece of crap was developed.. Throw something on the market that's ((ENERGY INEFFICIENCY)) Did you throw common sense out the door as well?
My washer has got to be the biggest boat anchor I've ever bought and when the wife and I went into the store to buy a New Washer the Salesman said have you tried the Cabrio(They are made by Whirpool). I stopped him in mid-sentence and I said yes and we have one and they are the biggest pieces of shit I have ever used... They have a special promotional thing going we have to buy them for 800.00 but the store gets all kinds of kick backs.. I had the washing machine repaired every year for the first 6 years. No repair man can fix the UL problems that occurs with 12 minutes left every load. Everything has been tried. I even had the ((Get this)) Whirlpool repair man level the machine.. fixed right?...
I handed him four towels and guess what yeppers..UL once again and with him standing right there he had a $250.00 bill for a service call...(((I HAD TO PAY)).Whirlpool thinks this is tough luck on my part. Hard to believe that they are getting away with this. Absolutely Terrible. Customer service was of absolutely no help at all. The person I got on the phone ((WHIRLPOOL ARE YOU LISTENING)),I'll reframe from using a last names, But Glenn at The Service Center told me, "I've been an appliance tech for about 20 years and the most ignorant thing I ever hear is "I'm never gonna buy a Blank from Blank again". Don't condemn a company over 1 piece of crap. It makes you look ignorant. THE SERVICE TECH!!!!!!!!!!
Well, I have the right to express my opinion, I have the right to say what I feel.. So there, Whirlpool your CABRIO line Washers are a piece of Crap! No Serviceman can fix them, No Customer Service person will admit to anything except of course it's my fault..
If there a Class Action Lawsuit somewhere I would appreciate knowing about it,

We've had our Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer just over a year. I like them both but the we are having problems with our lid. The first one cracked after 9 months & they replace the lid. Two months later the new one cracked & they replaced the hinges and lid again. I assure you we are very careful when lowering and lifting the lid. I do 80% and my husband does 20% and we are very cautious of it especially after the second one broke. Now I was just putting laundry in and the third one crack while lifting the lid. There is obviously a problem and I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same issues. Eventually it will crack all the way through which will cause the glass to pop up and the lid won't lock. I will not buy anything with a glass lid again!

We paid a lot for this machine a couple of year ago, and should have kept our old machine, which was working. WE wanted an energy-efficient one. Now we can't get our darks clean, even after running a whole cycle with a washer cleaner and extra rinse and spin. It comes out all covered with white residue. Have never seen this with other washers. And we use blue liquid HE cleaner, so it is not undissolved cleanser, as some people surmise. We don't use anything powder or white, so what the heck is it?

Class Action Suit
by: Kathy

After reading all of these very bad comments and agreeing with EVERY one, I would like to know how to go about a class action lawsuit about this washer. Clearly, there are several issues going on with the Cabrio. Why should Whirlpool get away with this? If anyone can steer me in the right direction, I would be more than happy to get this started!
If anyone is interested, my email is khdh@wk.net.
Thanks

My dark clothes have white residue left on them from using 2 tablespoons of he soap. I have tried different kinds of soap and the white residue is still there. i have rewashed and double rinse every load and the residue is still there. I hate, hate this machine and would definately join a class action. where is good housekeeping when you need them. My whites are stained with various colours of stains, the no iron white shirts are left with terrible yellow armpit stains. My husband now has jock itch from the soap residue, i could go on and on. i don't know what to do, new machine and can't afford to buy a new one. i traded in a 25 year old inglis working machine for this piece of crap, paid $1,000. not happy!

Total junk
by: Mike in Westwood

Our lid broke after 18 months on a machine that was never abused. The lid is a piece of tempered glass supported in a plastic frame. Because it's heavy, it has helper springs. Over time the stress broke the frame near the hinge, rendering the machine inoperable. The warranty is 12 months so Whirlpool is telling us to stick it. The fact it broke is unacceptable, their position is worse. Stay away from this and any other products designed by the "crack" engineering team at Whirlpool Corp.

I understand they purchased Maytag - must have had the Neptune team help in the design of this one.

13 mos old, Expensive Repair, Poor Customer Service
by: Jane

I have a Cabrio Washer that is 13 mos old, gently used. It sounds like a jet engine when it spins. I am told it is a bad bearing that needs to be replaced a cost of $400.00-$600.00 to replace. Whirlpool thinks this is tough luck on my part. Hard to believe that they are getting away with this. Absolutely Terrible. Customer service was of no help at all. They were not even willing to provide the part if I provided the labor.

Worst washer ever!
by: T Kibbe

We purchased this less than 2 years ago..since then the locking mechanism on the lid has rusted out and we replaced it, it is now rusting again. The bleach dispenser is totally rusted out..I have pictures to prove this.
My clothes come out with black oil like splotches on them just recently...I hate this washer and cannot wait to get a normal water level washer that actually cleans your clothes. I have never had a washer that rusted out like this or washed clothes so poorly ever before...
DO NOT buy this machine unless you like wasting money...
I am very unhappy with this washer...

Dont blame WP
by: Appliancedude

Hello all, wanted to add my own comment. I am a appliance tech and have been repairing junk like this for about 15 years. The most ignorant thing I ever hear, is "I'm never gonna by from X again". Dont condem a company over 1 piece of crap. It makes you look ignorant. Yes this washer is a POS. But blame your liberal government for it not Whirlpool. Believe me, they don't want to make the damn thing, anymore than you want to own it. They are required by law to make "High efficency" machines. The government is the ones who made the old traditional top loader a thing of the past. Because it uses too much water and electricty. So since not eveyone can own a front loader, and they can't make the old tradtional deep fill top loaders, thanks to your liberal, environmentalist moron government, they make POS's like this. Trust me, they'd rather make the old direct drive over this thing. For you conservatives, this is jsut another reason our government needs to be put back in their place. For you liberals, you voted for it, quit whining

Hello. I have had many problems with this whirlpool cabrio he, it has only worked well for the 1st 2 years. I have replaced the suspension springs, the bearings, and just recently the drain pump. Now I am having and error code of LD (Long Drain). Prior to replacing the drain pump, it went thru all the cycles but didn't drain, so i replaced the pump, now, it skips the rinse cycle and the LD code apears. Any solution to this? Thanks for your help in advance.

That has to be the biggest load of B.S. I have ever heard. Everything came out better than it went in my A--. The cabrio washer is a piece of Shite! It is a lousy washer, it is over-priced, prone to break down, cost a fortune to fix, so it can break down over and over again! Mine went to the junkman for scrap, because that is all a cabrio washer is good for, scrap. If you want to believe Whirlpool's lies and waste your money on a cabrio, go for it. However, you would do better to bet your money on 00 at a roulette table at any casino, you would have a better chance of getting something for your money.

Susan I just wanted to comment that Maytag is now owned by Whirlpool! The sales guy tried to used this as a selling feature when we went looking for a replacement washer for the cabrio. I turned around and walked the other way. No way was I giving Whirlpool another dime! Luckily the store where we bought our machine took back the Cabrio after a year of torture and complaining to the manager. No thanks to Whirlpool!

Destroys clothes
by: Susan

Star rating 0 is not offered, so I had to go with 1, which is way too generous.

All of the previous comments made about this horrible wash machine are accurate. I have new clothes that have tears and "pilling" from this machine. The instruction manual advises putting delicate items in mesh bags. Two problems; everything needs to be put in mesh bags or the clothes look like they have been washed 100's of times. Next, the rinsing issue is worse when the clothes are in the mesh bag. I am to the point where I use the soak option, with about .5 oz of detergent. I then run it again on soak, no detergent, and then just spin the clothes out. Even on low spin, the clothes are so wrinkled, even permanent press articles come out of the dryer still wrinkled. This machine does not supply enough water and consequently the clothes are being ruined. Give the people of America back the water to clean our clothes efficiently! I also want to tell my wash machine how to wash my clothes, with variable settings, as opposed to a computer that defaults to settings that I cannot control and that I don't want. I am definitely in favor of a class action suit, I'd be one of the first to sign. I am on my way now to look at used Maytag machines. I feel guilty even reselling this awful machine to anyone. I wish I had found this site before I purchased the Cabrio. A BIG MISTAKE!!!

Whirlpool Cabrio Washer
by: Kim

I bought the Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer set and was so excited to get it home to use it. The washer worked fine for awhile, then had to replace the motherboard, of course they did it for free although my warranty had just ran out!!m They must have known this is a common problem. Now I just had the water pump replaced. Every load, no matter what size is off balance, it takes me several times to unload soaking wet laundry and rearrange it before it will spin. Im so frustrated with this washer. I cant afford to just go out and buy another set as I just got this set paid for. Whirlpool should recall these washers since everyone seems to be having the same issues with them!!! Will not buy another of this brand!!!!

This machine is the biggest lump of crap on the face of the earth. It does not wash the clothes properly, maybe thats because it does not add the correct amount of water. The fabric softner dispenser does not work either. On top of that my clothes stink and I am a clean fanatic. I would not give this machine to my worst enemy. Thank you whirlpool for making my life a total misery.

The company should be held responsible and refund everybodys money. Please do not buy this machine or take it if the salesman gave it to you for free. They would get twice as much money back from you on repairs. Feel a lot better getting this off my chest. Or airing my dirty laundry in public no pun intended.

Now I have to buy a 200 part and have someone fix it. Somehow reading everyones comment on Whirlpool I do not think this will be the only problem. Shame on you Whirlpool no wonder the name I grew up on is loosing to names like LG. It's great when I called customer service and they said that they have improved newer models (mine is a 2010) but why would I ever buy anything you make again after this upset? just like I will never buy a panosonic big screen... bad build! Brown streaks are left on my clothes

I just wanted to tell my story about my Brand New Cabrio! I've only washed about 10 loads and brown sludge appears on all of my clothes. At first I thought I washed the load with either a paper or maybe a piece of cardboard in a pocket ( I was washing sheets). Had to rewash.... ugh... another hour. Marks are now stains on my white sheets. This washer leaves stains on all washes. I've called Whirpool and they were just rude! Called Lowes and they were very helpful and are going to try and help me with this horrible machine. Whirpool asked me if I needed to be reimbursed for the clothes and I said no, but now looking at these blogs I think they should be responsible. I'm hoping I can get my money back. Wish me luck.
Oh,I also get error codes and the locking lid will lock, then unlock... lock... then unlock.... This has been going on since day one!

Don't buy the Cabrio
by: Anonymous

I found myself nodding my head about so many of the previous complaints - we have only had the machine 2 months. When you do a load of darks, so many of the clothes come out with a white residue on them. If you are in the habit of using powder Oxi-Clean, as I have been, you will scratch your head about the manual instructions, which tell you to sprinkle it underneath the clothes and then load - powder Oxi needs to dissolve in water to work well - and that is probably where the white residue comes from. The clothes come out so incrdibly wrinkled from the high rate of spinning that you need to shake each one out before putting them in the dryer. Probably most disappointing is that we bought the largest possible tub thinking we could wash blankets in it, but it only handles comforters that are "water resistant." Don't buy this machine!

I bought this machine because it was a Whirlpool and within a year it was stopping at the end of the cycle and giving an error code. sometimes I could start it over and sometimes it would take several hours before I could get it to drain and start over. Now, it is pouring water out into the floor everytime I use it. I have to surround it with towels in order to keep my floor from flooding. I am going to buy a Maytag to replace it and NEVER buy another Whirlpool product of any kind. I have contacted Whirlpool and got no response. As a I read other comments, it seems as if Whirlpool has hurt themselves by not addressing the problems with this machine.

I agree with most of the comments here regarding the inefficiency of this "high efficiency" machine. I only wish I had seen this site before I bought the Cabrio. I feel like my name could be on any of the comments. We seem to all have the same issues. I have to wash a load 2 or sometimes 3 times to get it somewhat clean. It does need more water to properly wash the clothes. What's the good of using so little water if the clothes don't get clean and you have to wash them 2 more times. Maybe using the same water as a conventional machine but much more electricity to run a load 2-3 times.

I know, the one people that win in a Class Action is the lawyers, but is time Whirlpool got a swift kick in the butt for ignoring this issue. Cabrio Washer, cost approx. $500.00 F51 Error cost to repair approx $400.00, a one year warranty $360. This is a total scam! The really sad thing, is I have an old Maytag Washer bought it used 5 years ago for $100, must be nearly ten years old and it works fine, while the Whirlpool Cabrio is a $500 paper weight! I for one will never buy another Whirlpool product, and after seeing the thousands of complaints on the F51 error alone, will be contacting a Law Firm for a Class action. I encourage you to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well.

Don't buy this machine. Simple. Walk away now. Lid broke within the first 7 months. They replaced it and it broke again 6 months later. They will not repair or replace the lid it now because it is not covered on their warranty. That's good for only one year. Total cost to replace lid is $300...at this rate though I will have to pay this every 7 months! It took them 4 months just to call me back and have the customer service manager tell me they won't back up their product. Now I have an expensive machine and can't use it because the lid is broken. BIGGEST MISTAKE I HAVE EVER MADE!
by: Very disappointed

I had a beautiful machine which died from old age (c.35 years). Was talked into this expensive Whirlpool Cabrio. Whirlpool have outsmarted themselves in trying to reduce water consumption. It needs much more water to even have a hope of cleaning the clothes properly. Black clothes show lint and soap. White clothes show dirt and lint.
What is the point of "saving water" when I need to rewash the clothes in extra water? As well, this machine is oh so slow and the spin cycle is noisy and only allows "screwed up" or nothing. I almost cry every time I take out the clothes.

I have never liked this washer. It spins the clothes so hard that everything is wrinkled (even jeans) so much that it does not come out in the dryer. The jeans are so wrinkled that I often cannot get it out with an iron either.... I put the clothes on low spin and shake every piece of clothing out before putting it in the dryer. That helps, but not 100% and seriously, who wants to do that every time they wash clothes? Then my washer started gettting the F51 error. I called Whirlpool and someone came out to fix it. There is a known problem with the computer. They were going to fix it for free, but when the repair guy got here, he said I have more problems. I needed the tub replaced. Not worth fixing... Whirlpool would not even give me a discount on the repair. UMMMM, I need to buy a new washer, so with Whirlpool's terrible service, I will not be buying another Whirlpool anything ever!

Whirlpool Cabrio is JUNK!!!!
by: SoSad

Adding to the frustration of taking 10-12 hours to do 3 loads of wash at times is the fact that they want you to believe the problem has been fixed. From what I have read these issues started back in 2006 and here it is 2012 and we are still having the same issues. How uninformed/stupid do they think consumers are in this modern age of communication. Even though I do admit my clothes get pretty clean, 10-12 hours is just a ridiculous amount of time. Whirlpool Cabrios are junk.

more problems with this washing machine than any I have ever owned
by: kanderson

Today is the second time in less than 5 months that a coin got stuck in the pump of my Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine. The repairman charged $250.00 each time. I could have bought a brand new, no-frills washing machine for that money, but the repairman says they are all made that way now. Not only have I spent $500.00 for two pumps, but the basement flooded twice. My mother had the right idea with her wringer washer. That thing survived a family of 7 for many years. Would be nice if a manufacturer could come up with a solution to this problem. I spent enough for this machine and expected quality. Hopefully my husband will learn his lesson and be more vigilant in checking his pockets before he does his laundry.

so far, as expected
by: Anonymous

WTW7600: Purchased in August 2011, so far no problems. My brother and my mother both have had variations on this model for years, with no problems, so we felt confident with this purchase.
Yes, coins can get under the agitator, and might fall through the detergent slot, so be careful! (had to take off the agitator tonight for the first time, but no problem, and there is no way a coin can get into the pump from there--) You do need to check your pockets before doing wash!
Also, as others have noted, this machine does not always get stains out without prespotting with laundry soap --mainly a problem with my work jeans. It does pay to check those before putting them in the dryer, since the dryer heat will make stains permanent.
Best part is that while the machine may take longer, but it does use less water per cycle, which is great since the city of Chicago seriously just raised the water rates that we in the suburbs have to pay.
Finally, from all I have read on both front and top loaders, extended warranties are a neccessity.
So, overall for us, so far, we like this machine.

My 18 month Whirlpool Cabrio just died. It needs a $500 computer board. Surely an appliance should last more then 18 months! Of course Leon's will not stand behind their product, and we did not purchase extended warranty. I am going across to my Amish Neighbors to borrow their wash board...

DO NOT BUY
by: Anonymous

I would not recommend this product. The worst washer I have ever had. Whirlpool should be ashamed to put their name on it. Not only is it costly to purchase it just doesn't wash clothing well. The worst is the smell on my towels and the white marks it leaves on all my dress clothing. It is always off level and walks a couple of inches every load. It is not time saving or water saving if you have to keep purchasing different detergents to wash your clothing multiple times to clean. Not to mention the clothes will not last as long being laundered so much. A definite not buy.

Cabrio WTW7800XW3
by: Anonymous

Received delivery of a Cabrio WTW7800XW3 washer on December 17th 2011. I had an issue (stopped in the middle of the cycle and flashed the letter F on the control panel) with it on January 2nd. I called and scheduled service. I had unplugged the machine, and a few days later I replugged it and it started to work so I cancelled the service call. In March the problem started again. It just adds a little bit of water and then stops.. Since then I have had repairmen out 6 times with 8 new parts installed, and the washer still doesn't work. Now the control panel won’t work. Whirlpool refuses to replace the machine. The repairman says these are the worst machines (any of the ones that are top load and have a clear top) he has ever seen and that I should BUY an extended warranty. He says the bearings in the tub wear out among other things. On one of the repair visits, the serviceman found a chewed up pair of baby pajama pants. The machine makes a really load noise like a jet engine taking off whenever it spins and the clothes are not clean. Whirlpool says that the warranty does not cover replacement of a defective machine. I have since researched the machine and have discovered that there have been problems with this line of machined for years. So, why are they still selling them? I am hoping for a class action suit. The company should stand by their products. I will never purchase a Whirlpool (or any other brand manufactured by Whirlpool) product again. I have had the machine for 4 months and it has been usable for about 2 of them.

Whirlpool Cabrio Worst Machine Ever
by: Anonymous

The Whirlpool Cabrio is terrible. When I first purchased it I thought I had the cadillac of washers. It was so quiet and seemed to do a great job. Then after a while it went all down hill from there, it can't wash a load without shaking and almost coming through the wall. Every load is unlevel and has to be readjusted every couple of minutes. I'm constantly moving the clothes around and even changing the spin speed and sometimes I just move the dial to drain and spin but everything I do it continues to shake uncontrollably and sounds like it is getting ready to lift off. This is the machine that is suppose to balance itself out according to the weight that is in the machine. Even with one item in the machine it reads UL. I'm fed up and am heading out to buy a new machine NOT WHIRLPOOL.

I used my daught-in-laws washer a few months ago and it was so nice to wash with no problems and to have clean clothes. She has a 10 year old washer that was just wonderful. It cost them less than $300.00 for the machine when it was new. My next washer will be a normal old fashion washer. Cheap one too!

I just bought this washer less than a year ago and I absolutely hate it. I have emailed Whirlpool and they were no help. I went back to where I purchased it and they were no help either. It does not clean and I even have clothes come out with dry spots. If you use a heavier wash, your nice clothes come out wrinkled and in a ball. I have tried all the settings and smaller loads, everything! Nothing seems to work or make me happier. I wish I had read these reviews before I purchased it. Now I guess I'm stuck with it like so many others. I can't understand with all the complaints I just read on this site why Whirlpool won't do something. I can promise this is the last Whirlpool washer I will ever buy simply because they do not stand behind their products.

Clothes still smell
by: Anonymous

The Cabrio doesn't remove the smell of body odor. It also doesn't get out food stains from children's clothing. In the vain hope that the Cabrio washer will get clothes barely clean on every load you have to pretreat everything and then select presoak, heavy duty wash, soil level- heavy duty, spin speed- high, and extra rinse. Even doing all of that, many items still have to be rewashed. I don't think I am conserving any water after all of that, so what is the point of this washer? The Cabrio washer was really expensive, so this is very depressing.

Ditto - Why did Lowe's peddle this junk to us? Why didn't we come home and check on reviews? What were we thinking - we're 60 years old. I've been washing clothes for 40 years without giving it a thought. Now my peace and quiet is ruined while this monster takes over our home, sounding like a 474 Jet about to take off. And it's so full of itself it won't even let you peak. And I always put in the soap first, fill with water to let it disperse, then add the clothes- nope, can't do that. Big Brother won't let you. I've had sheets come out still dry and every single item of clothing or fabric in our home is now wrinkled beyond recognition. It's the worse purchasing decision of our lives. Total stinker.

CABRIO..Worse purchase I have ever made!
by: Debbie

Ditto.. Have had all the problems. Coin stuck, wrinkled, tangled clothes, and jet taking off in my laundry room. Tub, bearing, and shocks need to be replaced. They sent the repairman, but he said he could diagnose it without seeing it. "That's what they all need." Extended warranty company says it is far to expensive to repair; they will be issuing me a check towards the purchase of a new, compariable machine. I am sure it will be depreciated and I will have to shell out a good chunk of money to get a new machine. Worse part is what to buy? I don't want a front loader and all these top loaders have many of the same issues. Guess I can keep researching when I take my computer to the laundromat I found that has wireless internet. Be sure to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It causes them SO MUCH paperwork and makes them be accountable in 30 days or less!

No complaints
by: Austin

My wife and I have had our Whirlpool Cabrio HE washer for 3 years now.
I'm glad this machine measures the weight of clothes and adjusts its own water fill level (very economical as I noticed a difference on the water bill).
I've had the UL code come up (uneven load) only when I've been washing comforters or a huge load of towels. I don't have a problem with that personally.
I work on cars for a living so I have some of THE dirtiest clothes to be washed and it has never failed me to get clothes clean.
The only time I ever had a problem, was once. The machine would not start and a code came up. I called the service number on the machine and they sent a tech to my house. They disassembled my machine and found one of my business ink pens had gotten washed, and come apart. The ink tube went through one of the water drain holes and messed the machine up a little. I paid $75 for the service call/repair. For 3 years, $75 is less than I ever expected to put into upkeep. I don't expect new machines to have the quality they did in past years, so I will say I'm impressed so far.

Cabrio top loading machine is JUNK
by: Anonymous

I can say that I spent a lot of money on my machine less than 4 years ago. We have had numerous issues. We've replaced the pump twice, the control panel once, taken the drum out twice and cleaned it, replaced the hose, etc. It has a bad odor and the reason: my conclusion is that it is high efficiency because it reuses the old water. Water is always in the machine. So, it is recycling water. If you go away on vacation and come back, the laundry room really smells. So, it is washing your clothes with old stagnent water. I am ashamed to say I spent this kind of money, all the repairs, etc and it is a major rip off. If anyone is going to pursue a class action lawsuit, I'm in on it. These machines need to be taken off the market and everyone needs to know why they are no good. Don't let any of your friends or family get ripped off. The amount of money we spent on the machine and then on repairs (thankfully, my husband is handy and can fix the machine and we just pay for parts) could have bough a cheaper machine once a year!

I have gone through 3 pumps and one flood onto my basement due to a quarter stuck. Also had the motherboard go out. I purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio 6 months ago. The worst purchasing decision of my life. It is busy sensing all the time. It's still sensing. It's sensing it doesn't want to do the wash. My husband and I have read the owner's manual of how to load how to troubleshoot over and over and over. I just want to know why there wasn't a recall for these things - they don't work. Why did Lowe's and ABT in Glenview, IL, push them on every person buying a new high efficiency washer? They are crap!!!

I am off to Sears to buy Kenmore Elites and I will never buy again from Whirlpool, Lowes or ABT!
And I am writing to Pres. Obama's new consumer chief about this fraud.

Cabrio was the Worst purchase of my life
by: Ms.Jackson

This Washer has had me cursing at every use, hating it since the first day I bought it, I allowed my husband to convince me to keep it as I seethed with hatred for it and the no washing it has done,I have used every cycle and our clothes are in horrible shape since September 2010. My husbands tee shirts now are under scrutiny by him for the under arm sweat marks which have never been there in 30 years. He has joined the club of Cabrio haters. Low to almost no water among other issues have ranked this as the worst washer I have ever used. If you buy this machine be prepared to be miserable until you can dump it or unload it somewhere for a good old fashioned one with an agitator and enough water to actually wash your clothes,Cabrio will not clean by rubbing clothes against each other as the sales clerks tell you. It does not clean at all, not even a pair of cotton pajamas. All your clothes will become impossible to get the stains and dirt out.Today the company I bought mine from is replacing it this week with another brand of washer with an agitator and decent water level after 5 months of use. I think that speaks loudly for the lousy CABRIO and they know it is no good. You will not save water or energy with a Cabrio, you will find yourself washing one load all day in an effort to have clean clothes and you will find yoursef washing by hand too. At least they will come clean if you do them by hand.It is a beautiful piece of equipment to look at and the Buck stops there.

Don't ignore these reviews if you are washer/dryer shopping! I've had my Cabrios since Nov. 2006 and w/ the washer: the motherboard has gone out, the lid screws have come loose and now my "Start" button is broke! Not to mention, I have never had to use so much pre-treater (Shouth, etc.) to get my clothes clean. As for the dryer, I avoid using the cycles that sense when the clothes are dry b/c everytime I do, I end up fishing out really damp clothes, especially think clothes such as jeans & towels. I was advised against a front loading washer but everyone I know, who has one, loves them. I'll get me one of those next time! Don't even waste your time looking at the Cabrio.

Whirlpool won't stand behind there product
by: Carolyn

We purchased this machine about 3 years ago. After one and a half years the water pump cracked because a coin got into the washer. Whirlpool told us the machine was not meant to take coins. They refuse to stand by their product. We paid $325 to fix it. The repairman said this is a problem with this model. Despite our best efforts to check pockets, another coin got into the pump and has cracked it again. Why is there not a trap or screen to prevent this?

You would think that a $900 machine would be better constructed. We are going to get rid of the washer and start over. My last washer lasted over 16 years and I could have opened a bank with the money I found in it over the years. Buyer beware. Do not purchase a Cabrio as there are unhappy owners all over the internet with the same complaint.

This (Cabrio 7340) is a piece of junk. I've had 3 control panels, multiple service calls by 3 different companies -- the last person said he had never seen so little water introduced into the tub. After letters to Whirlpool execs among others, the machine was swapped for the same model. When I had the same problem, the last service technician was told the control panel on this machine was reprogrammed to introduce even less water. This machine has a large tub, but it can't be utilized because the water level is not adjusted based on the size of the load (a false claim made by Whirlpool). In short, clothes are not washed or rinsed properly -- and white residue is left on dark items, requiring 1, 2, or even 3 additional rinses.

We have had this machine for about 6 months. It is WAY OVERLY ENGINEERED. It seems to wash in about 1/2 gallon of water - if you are lucky.

The concept of being energy efficient is good - however - this machines takes it way too far by barely using any water - using ridiculously long cycle times. Whats more, clothes are knotted into a fine mess with wrinkles nearly impossible to get out. It leaves soap residue due to lack of enough water.

This washer/dryer pair are being returned back to Sears as soon as possible. Shame on you Whirlpool for creating this disaster of a product. Shame on you Sears for selling it.

Sucks
by: Anonymous

I loved this machine for the first two to three years. Then I started getting a ul(unbalanced) code every once in a while and now almost every load even if only five articles of clothing. It doesn't matter what I do and redistributing the clothes doesn't help. The machine also overfills during the rinse cycle regardless if the load size is set manually or on automatic. I bought a new computer board and have spent close to $300 this week and it still doesn't work right. Some times if I let it sit for a day or two, it will start working correctly. Why? No one knows. I will not buy a whirlpool again and will stick with a basic washer that lasts for ten years or more. Unfortunately that new purchase is probably going to be sooner rather than later.

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
by: Marisa

A couple of years ago I thought I had made a great purchase when I bought the Whirpool Cabrio Washer & Dryer...boy was I wrong!!! Since I purchased the washer in 2007 I have had nothing but pricey problems, only 1 of which was covered by Whirlpool due to a recall regarding the F51/F1 codes which cost them $800. Out of my own pocket I have spent $1600 repairing and replacing parts on this washer! If Whirlpool had one ounce of decency they would do a recall on what is quite obviously a defective product.

The only reason I am taking the time to write this review (which I never do), is to warn future prospective buyers of a costly mistake. If there was an option for negative stars I would have chose that!!! BUYER BEWARE- stay away from Whirlpool products. Their customer service is far from helpful and their products just aren't what they used to be.

Piece of GARBAGE
by: Anonymous

This washing machine is a piece of crap! I've had it three years and had repair people here on four different occasions. The machine allows coins and other small objects (paper clips, ie) to get into the pump. Guess what - it damages the pump and you must replace it. I just had it repaired again two days ago - it's still not working right. The repair people are trying to advise me over the phone now - I guess they're at a loss too. I get every symbol in the book, sd, ld, ul, po. Have I missed any? I feel sorry for all the unsuspecting customers buying this machine. Shame on whirlpool!!!!

Frustrated with four kids
by: Anonymous

Anyone that has a positive comment to write about this washer should have to wait til it's atleast 3-3 1/2 years old. I truly loved my washer when I bought it, replacing a Kenmore that was 15 years old. I liked the fact that the bowl was spacious since I do ALOT of laundry. Within the first year and a half of having it, I already needed repairs on it for not draining the water during the cycle. Then at about the third year every 2 out of 10 loads would not spin out without giving me a UL code for unlevel load. It didn't matter how heavy or light the load..UL. Fast forward 6 months and now it is EVERY load that says UL.

Techs can't really pin down exactly what will make the load spin correctly. So, without guessing and spending a ton of money, I'm left with a machine that is 3 1/2 years old and cost me $1100.00 I would NOT recommend anyone to buy this machine or Whirlpool for that matter being they have had a ton of complaints on this machine and are not sympathetic to those who can't spend $600 to repair it or just surrender to the fact they need to buy a new washer after three years.

Very Satisified!
by: Baretta Lee

Bought our Cabrio about a year ago and my wife loves it. I admit, my DIRTY work clothes come out a lot cleaner. Only problem that I have is our old set, an Amana ALL DIGITAL MODEL, had flourescent lights on top and this set doesn't. They were awsome night lights! I wasn't real crazy about buying another digital set, due to the vibration and moisture with the electronic components, but had no problems with the Amana set.

I hope that Whirlpool stands up to the reputation that I have always heard about. I guess time will tell. Sucks that so many have lost their job due to the company moving to MEXICO!!!! Good washer and dryer or not, it will be the last "Whirlpool Product" that I will buy.

Cabrio Washer: Complete Unadulterated CRAP!
by: Anonymous

I have owned the Whirlpool Cabrio washer for 15 months now. I think I am going to try to sell it because it wrinkles my clothes so badly that ironing often cannot remove the wrinkles. In the past I never needed to iron clothes if I pulled them out of the dryer immediately.

Now, I have to un-twist, un-knot, and shake out every piece of clothing before putting into the dryer, AND STILL they come out wrinkled. This takes a huge amount of time...

Whirlpool should initiate a major recall OR the enlightened, discriminating consumers who actually want the quality they are supposedly paying for should band together for a class action law suit...

This machine is truly terrible. Anyone who is posting here who says this washer is wonderful is either Whirlpool employees trying to counteract all the negative posts OR have an affinity for ironing clothes and in the infamous words of the band The Prentenders, like "watching the clothes go round" because of the glass top (stupid feature that adds no value)....

Anyway, please don't purchase this washer.... The folks here providing negative feedback are asking you to learn from their/my misktake and are providing you with the best caveat emptor.... Buyer Beware...

broken....
by: Anonymous

well, i thought i HAD a great machine, no problems...just a great washer...until last week...the washer is 3 years and 1 month old...the dang thing flooded my entire downstairs. I called the repair guy...its the main tub seal, which because this model is big parts no little parts i have to replace the entire outer tub. 300 bucks is what he quoted me, but told me to call whirly to see if they would cover the part. I called with my very angry voice...asked them when there products started going to sh*^ because i didn't buy a cheap washer due to that risk, I bought a whirlpool based on its reputation, and still got burned. she offered me 25% off the part price, but after shipping and handling i was only saving about 50 bucks from what the repair man quoted. I complained further about it being THREE years old, and I buy a washer planning on it to last at LEAST 10 years...she got it to 50% off....not much but something. I guess what I am saying, for me calling the customer service line was NOT successful in what I wanted (the part to be paid for by them), but was NOT a waste of my time either. From what the repair guy said, they usually will cover their parts for up to 3 years..i just happened to be over that 3rd year...even by a smidgen.

I will never buy a whirpool again...i can't afford to if this is the beginning of a downhill spiral of this machine. I wouldn't buy a car that i knew would break down in a matter of a year or 2...why would I want a washer that's less reliable?

After owning these expensive machines only 3 years we've had problems! First it was the dryer, it would turn on but it wouldn't start. Now it's the washer. I get the F1 code EVERY WASH and I have to cancel 3-4 times before it will start. Then about 20 minutes in, I have to cancel again and set it on rinse and spin just to finish the load. What a HASSLE and a piece of crap! I'm so disappointed and I will never purchase a Whirlpool product again!

My last Whirlpool was 15 years old and was still working when I gave it away. My mom's was over 25 years old. This Cabrio is a poorly engineered nightmare. It's only 2 years old and when in the spin cycle it vibrates like mad. That's if it makes it that far. Sometimes it gives error codes and just stops working for about 30 minutes. horrible - don't byu
by: Anonymous

The Cabrio washing machine is horrible! I kept getting the F51 error message, having to stop the cycle, redistribute heavy towels, clothes, etc., then put it back on. I'd have to do that about 10X per load...very aggravating!

I lucked out, so I thought, received a notice from Whirlpool that I could purchase extended warranty on this, so I did--even though I never believed in extended warranties. So, I purchased it for the washer, dryer and 2 other Whirlpool appliances. The inside salesperson gave me an effective, over one month later than the date listed on the paperwork. She checked into it, kept me on hold, said no problem, they could give me the date the paperwork had on it. She said I may get my contracts with the later date on them, not to worry (??? I thought). I called when contracts came w/the wrong date, the next person said not to worry, they'd send new contracts within 2 weeks and call re having serviceperson come out for this.

Well, today a "Supervisor" called, saying the date couldn't be the date listed on the paperwork originally sent by Whirlpool, but the later one.
Well, this lack of communication and commitment to Customer Satisfaction goes along with the piece of crap they call a washing machine..Whirlpool says one thing, does another. The sad thing is it seems no matter what company you purchase from there are problems.

I just want to get this thing fixed, get rid of it. I don't like the way things are so wrinkled when they come out of this...terrible! Give me the "old style" washing machine. This does not work well. Don't buy any Cabrio model! You will truthfully be sorry.

My dog barks when the washer goes thru the spin cycle, I call it the jet plane taking off in our house--gosh, it's terribly noisy! That just started about a month ago.

Remember--DO NOT BUY A Cabrio -- you will be sorry if you do!

I bought my cabrio 2 years ago, lucky me I bought the warranty.I have had them out here at least 7 times. One time it took them a month to get the
part, they tell me that even lint can break the
machine. I had a flood with it the last time and
now it has been working for 2 weeks but I saw a little water in the laundry room which usually means it is going. Last year they sent me $50.00
for the laundromat. I can't believe it I spent like $1900.00 for the washer and dryer and waited
almost 15 years and now I have a piece of crap.

by: Jim

We loved our machine in the beginning..3 days after the manufactuer's warranty was up it stopped working...thank goodness we had an extended warranty (we thought)...we called to have it fixed..it has taken over a month for them to come and fix it...they came,(afte MANY phone calls to the repar department!), claimed it was now working properly, a load was put in after the repair man left and it was in fact STILL BROKEN!!! we called to have them come back and they said they won't be able to get back for another 5 days!! no apologies or empathy was given for the situation we have been placed in trying to get this problem fixed..and after reading other reviews about this washing machine, it seems a lot of customers who have bought this type of washing machine are finding the machine breaks down after a year...i will advise anyone i can to NOT purchase the whirlpool cabrio and stick with older technology until they can work the bugs out with this machine, as good customer service is very hard to come buy when it breaks down!

i am very dissatisfied with this product and its repair department...

All i want to say is BEWARE
by: Dana

I want customers to be aware of many things about the whirlpool cabrio washer and dryer. The washer says it will hold large loads but be prepared for it to be unbalanced often - especially when washing blankets. It spins the clothes very fast so also be prepared to iron almost everything that it washes.

Its cycles are very long so if you have small loads of speciality clothes that need to be washed alone be ready to spend many hours on the weekend washing. I am very unhappy with this washer. The dryer...we have had serviced 3 times and it is not even 4 months old. Each time they are able to fix it but it is a pain scheduling the repairs when they only give 3 hour windows to wait for the repair man. My biggest complaint...It sounds like a "FREIGHT TRAIN".

It is unbelievably loud...service says that is normal but there is no way a new dryer should sound like this. I purchased this set from Best Buy...It started being extremely loud the second month I owned it and they would not do anything about it. Best Buy said they will exchange in 30 days only..so don't purchase there thinking they will stand behind the products they sell they will NOT.

Not even if it is under 60 days old, has been serviced 3 times and they still didn't care about customer satisfaction and wouldn't do anything about it. Guess that is what I get from purchasing from a big company that does not care about customer satisfaction.

I am extremely unhappy with Best Buy and The Cabrio set...Please consider this before purchasing this set. If I had read a review like this before I purchased this set I would have thought twice. "CUSTOMER BEWARE"

Worth the money my Cabrio washer and dryer
by: Anonymous

I purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio Washer and Dryer as a set when my Maytag dryer died. Since I didn't want almond-colored appliances again, I needed to replace both machines. I love front-loaders; the efficiency, speed, reduced use of water.

Unfortunately, my laundry room is incredibly small, and the Whirlpool Duets are enormous. There was no way I could fit them in the room. So, I considered the Cabrio, as they are slightly smaller and are also high-efficiency. I checked them out online and in-store. I loved them!

They have many wash and dry cycles, and are very electronic compared to my previous machines. We had a little trouble getting them installed as my laundry room, as I've mentioned, is very small. I only measured the washer, not imagining the dryer would be a different size.

But, surprise, surprise, the dryer is larger than the washer. I suppose this is common, but you live and learn. So, my husband ended up moving the dryer vent from the floor to the wall and redirecting it outside. The gas pipe also needed to be moved to make as much room as possible for the machines. Even with all the effort, I still have about 1/2" clearance for the door.

Anyway, all that effort was totally worth it! I absolutely love these machines! You can fit three small laundry baskets of clothes into the washer and the dryer. The washer has plates that kind of rise and shift, and that's how it cleans your clothes. I sat with my kids and watched a whole cycle, as the top of the washer is see-through. There is normal cycle, delicate, bulky, whites, soak, spin, just a ton of options. You can adjust the loudness of the bell that rings when it's finished.

There is a timer that counts down the wash which is very convenient and something new for me. It has done a fabulous hob of cleaning clothes. The dryer also has options: timed dry, more or less dry, perm press, fluff, etc. It is also huge inside!

We got the black, but I saw they just came out with silver, which is really nice. The black is a little hard to keep clean, especially when the lint trap is on the top of the dryer. Whenever you clean it, remnants drop onto the top of the dryer and you need to wipe it off. Not a big deal, but I don't think the silver would show as much.

Totally worth the money, (around $2000 for the set)!

Does tend to wrinkle
by: Kim

I was very excited when I was able to purchase the Whirlpool Cabrio as it is supposed to be more efficient in washing clothes, use less water and allow us to wash larger loads at one time.

I love having all the different settings and the different cycles that I am able to use on it. It has a clean washer cycle which I really like as well.

I have found that it does indeed use less water than my old washer did and I do get about 1 1/2 loads compared to the amount that I could wash in my old washer.

I do feel that it spins more water out of the clothes than my old washer did as well. The way you add your detergent and fabric softener are very easy as well as the bleach dispenser and its great to be able to add everything at the start of the load as well.

I do have a couple of issues with the washer however that have made me be very concerned. We started getting an F-51 code error that makes it hard to get the washer to go through the cycle. After contacting Whirlpool and talking to a technician, we still continue to have issues with this from time to time.

It is very aggravating to say the least to have to go reset the cycle at least 3 times each time you wash a load.

It does tend to really wrinkle up things like jeans as well and if you do not shake them out before you dry them you get really wrinkled pants that are hard to deal with.

High tech and stylish
by: David

I have the Whirlpool Cabrio. This is the most high tech washer I have ever used. I can not say much for the price because it came with the rental I am currently in. But I did decide to sell the washer I had in storage and get one of these when I get a new house.

There is a dispenser that the liquid detergent is poured into and then the washer auto dipenses it with the water. The machine detects the load size and fills to the appropriate level. There is also a bleach and fabric softener dispenser. Once you start the machine you walk away until it is done.

The machine is one of the quietest washer I have used. It is in a room right off of my kitchen and I will usually have to open the door to hear if it is running or not.

One of the other things I liked is there is no plastic structure in the missle of the basin. This makes it much easier to load the machine and it always remains balanced. This also makes this washer excellent for washing blankets and other larger items that I used to have to go to a laundrymat to have cleaned.

There are numerous setting on the dial including one for bulky items. Then there are soil selevtors as well so if something is really dirty it will agitate the load a little longer. There is a lid lock that engages once the laod has been started. This will keep anything from inadvertantly being added to the load.

Load times vary on what selection are made. I am in the Army and often have very soiled clothes and a heavy load with heavy soil still takes under an hour to wash on the colors setting. The spin cycle is super fast and gets alot of the water out which will reduce the drying time also.

The black color is rather stylish and the washer would not look out of place in a garage for those that do not have seperate washrooms.

The load size it is capable of washing is very generous. With that being said you would want to be sure and have the matching dryer. That would ensure being able to dry the whole load you just washed.

Power consumption is reasonably low. And with the auto load size detector it never uses more water than it needs so the washer is great on utilities.

Overall I give this washer a 9 out of 10.

I have had this washer for a year and I absolutely hate it. I like being able to wash comforters and blankets, but don't feel that it cleans very well. I used to wash my kids canvas tennis shoes and my small rugs in my agitator machine and they would come out very clean. In the Cabrio they come out just as dirty as they went in. Great purchase
by: Anonymous

Overall Great Washer.

With a new born, we were looking for a large capacity washer that would be extra effecient.

We went to the local appliance store and looked around. They recommended this set (washer and dryer) for exactly the two needs we were looking for.

They only had the glass top in stick (which is extra) and after getting them agree to sell it for the same price, we were good to go.

I do not think the glass top is worth the extra $100, as the novelty of watching it go round and round wears off after 15 minutes.

So far we have had not problems. Even though it is extra large, it can still go off balance with a comforter and a few towels going. The system auto shuts down instead of banging though. Just adjust the weight and it works fine.

We were looking for long term durability and the direct drive transmission seemed better then a belt. Basically it is a front loading washer, upright. this worked better for my wife instead on bending over to load.

Overall, great purchase - plus got for 12 months no interest. It came with 2 years free detergent, which I thought was a hoax. We filled out the paperwork and sure enough the book of free coupons came shortly.

Dream Machine !
by: Anonymous

This washing machine was the one of my dreams. It was advertised as time and energy saving. For the first year, it washed 9 pairs of jeans, or 10 towels, or a huge load of whites all at once, and everything came out perfectly clean. The washer was extremely quiet overall, except during the spin cycle, but even that noise was not bad. Well, that was for the first year…then it sprang a leak and poured water on to the floor. Once that was fixed, I thought my troubles were over; however, this is not the case. As

it turns out the entire inside of the washer cabinet is unpainted and has completely rusted. If I am not careful, and any part of a piece of clothing touches the edge of the machine, it gets rust on the clothes.

I can no longer wash 10 towels at once either, I can only do about four at a time, and even then, I have to rinse them at least twice in order to get the soap out. The washer has also lost its charm in the noise department. It makes a lot of racket during the wash cycle and sounds like there is a helicopter landing inside the house during the spin cycle.

It is so easy to use that my children actually ask to do their own laundry. The machine thoroughly cleans all types of soiled clothing without damaging the clothes. From the heaviest of denims to the most delicate fabrics, from big loads to small loads, I completely trust this machine to do a great job.

See you clothes with clear top lid
by: Tonya

I recently purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio washer. So far, I absolutely love it! The price for it is pretty steep, but I think that so far it's been worth it. I have the matching dryer as well. It's very high tech compared to my old washer. I love the way it looks!

I purchased a matching white pair with a clear top lid on the washer so you can see your clothes being washed. It has a start button along with an led digital display timer so I can see how long my load is going to take. It also has a separate button for "whitest whites" which is awesome, it gets my clothes a lot more sparkling white than just using bleach. It is a quiet washer, but for the price I paid it could have been more quiet.

The only thing I wasn't used to with this washer was using high efficiency soap. A lot of brands don't my high efficiency soap so you can't really be picky on which scent or brand you want, but it's not too big of a deal since I'm getting more water use out of the washer.

It's energy star rated and I look for that in all of my appliances now. I also really liked that I could fit quite a bit of my clothes in.It didn't have the large thing in the middle, so I could easily fit a lot more clothes into the washer. It easily fit my bedding into one load, instead of having to do separate loads for each piece of bedding.

My favorite part about it is definitely the controls. They are very user-friendly and have more controls to offer than most washer and dryers. I also like that the washer has a security lock on it just in case little hands want to grab the top and decided to jump in!

The only mechanical problem I have ever had with this washer was with the electric timers. One day the washer just froze up and stopped working. The display flashed for a few minutes while I tried to figure out what was going on, but then shut off. I thankfully had this under warranty or this would have costed me a good $500.00.

Hopefully this is the only mechanical problem I will have with it because I enjoy it. Some of my friends that own the same one have had more problems than I have, so hopefully nothing else will go wrong. I have heard a lot of bad reviews but I have yet to experience most of what people are saying.

I enjoy the free time it gives me from doing less loads of laundry every week. So far it looks great and has only had one small problem.
