How does this washer stand out? »
This is identical to its big brother, the 8600, except it sports two less cycles. If you want the active wear cycle you’ll have to upgrade to the 8600 for $100 dollars more, and if you also want the allergen cycle you can upgrade to the 8800 for between $200-$300 more (depending if you want white or chrome). It also only has a 8 hour delay start compared to 10-12 hours on the more premium washers, and it’s a shame it comes with no easy view glass lid, an upgrade to at least the 8600 is needed to have that feature.
I recently purchased this washer and hate it. It is a HE machine and uses less water. I don't think it cleans well. Spots still on clothes and black pants came out covered in some kind of white film. It takes twice as long (55 minutes, 61 minutes if using fabric softener) to do one load of wash. The sounds it makes while calibrating the load of laundry sounds like a jet reving up it's engine. If you are used to a washer with an agitator bar, you will have a hard time adjusting to the HE washers. There doesn't seem to be any kind of agitating. You have to layer the clothes around the circumfrance of the machine. They are still laying in this layered form when the cycle is over. There doesn't seem to be an swishing of the clothes. Also, it is too big for two people. If I were an inch shorter, I would have to get a hook to get the clothes out. I plan on paying a restocking fee to return the machine and get a traditional agitating machine.
