Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6500WW Top Load Washer 5.0 cu ft

Discontinued

Featuring basic laundry functions while employing the familiar top load structure. The machine can wash until three large clothes baskets in one load. The large load is efficiently cleaned while saving the house of water and electricity bills.

About 70 percent is reduced from the original energy you?d be spending in another top loading machine. Buying the machine instantly cuts down future expenses and enables parents to save for other important funds.

Key features

  • Offers numerous cycle types, including the Bulky item cycle, delicate cycle, and wool cycle. Consumers can choose according to the laundry clothing and the cleanliness they require.

  • Electricity consumption is energy efficient.
  • The model can clean large capacities of clothes, including heavy duty work such as towels, bedding, and the like.
  • Settings are readily adjustable, allowing you to personalize use of the machine.
  • Thorough cleaning is accomplished, even with large capacity loads.
  • Machine runs quietly, not giving any noise while the load is running.

    Advantages

  • This model is energy star approved; assuring customers they will really save more electricity using this product.
  • Total cleaning is achieved with its automatic temperature control, automatic fabric softener, and automatic beach dispensers.
  • These two features work to use the right water temperature and soap amount for proper laundry service.
  • Loads run at a maximum spin
    speed of 1,100 rpm.
  • Depending on the type of load and capacity needed, you can pick from 13 kinds of programs.
  • Water is also maintained through the automatic water level and extra rinse system.
  • Timer settings include a time remaining, end of cycle, and add-a-garment indicator.

    Disadvantages

  • The model comes at an expensive price not advisable for families under a tight budget.
  • Although the machine assures energy and water savings, you will be sacrificing a significant part of your present income to acquire this.
  • Contrary to its noise reduction guarantee, the machine easily shakes and breaks down.
  • Larger loads aren't managed well as king size bed sheets tend to ball up after a wash.
  • Users in a hurry won't be able to wash their large-sized and small-sized clothes all together.
  • Doing so wrinkles clothes easily and makes the fabric more vulnerable.

Wow,Could not see this coming! This machine continues to break down, two pumps in three years, I was told by the sales person don't put coins in the machine. Hello, can you design a washer so coins can't be sucked up into the pump.
Very disappointed and will never buy another whirlpool.

This is the worst washing machine I've ever owned. I challenge the designer to take one home for a month. We live and work on a farm, with mud, muck, and manure. The clothes go in the machine nasty and come out nasty. I bought the big size tub to hold my husbands "big sized" clothes. I can only wash 4 pairs of pants at a time for in order to get them clean. Oh, What a time saver !! 90 minutes to use the sanitized setting. 90 minutes I don't have. Why have the word HOT on the water setting.....there is no HOT. The HEATER is a farce. And the water level, get real people, not enough water equates to no clean clothes. Does anyone know how to override the hot water intake and the water level intake. I and really do not care if this negates the warranty. I've complained whoever will listen to me but.....no one is listening, no one cares and it's so sad that one time dependable Whirlpool company no longer cares. They are "all about the money", screw the hard working middle class people.

This washing machine just plain out sucks!!! We bought it about 3years ago for $1000. Wanted this machine for its oversized tub. Now our tub needs to be replaced, everytime i wash all the water just leaks right out onto the floor. Its gonna cost about$400 to fix. thinking of maybe just getting a new washer instead. Now the matching dryer seems like its having drying problems now. Cant win with this pice of crap!!

The Worst Washer I've Ever Owned
by: Singing The Blues in Texas

Less than 2 years old, and the Start button sensor went-out. $305 to replace the touch pad membrane. I also bought the Whirlpool Cabrio matching dryer (2 big problems in the 1st 18 months. I would highly recommend that you take a look at another manufacturer's washer & dryers, before being taken to the cleaners.

    What is everyone complaining about?
    by: Anonymous

I bought my cabrio just after buying my house a little over a year ago. It runs perfectly with never a problem! It is quite. I wonder if everyone put in the sound baffle foam like the instructions say to! My clothes are always clean and I can get two comforters in the thing at once with no problem. We haven't had any issues and I wash at least 6 loads a week if not more. I don't understand the complaints I LOVE my Cabrio!!!!

    by: beyond disappointed

I also fell into the trap of buying this $900 machine because of its large capacity and my mistaken belief that Whirlpool was a reliable brand. It started leaking from the bottom after 21 months. The first repairman said the main tub seal was the problem and that he would have to replace the entire outer tub to fix it, which would have cost almost $500. I opted to take Whirlpool up on its best offer, which was to repair it and tack on a 1-year warranty for a total cost of $300.

Don't buy a Whirlpoool Cabrio, trouble, trouble
    by: Alabama

From Alabama: I made a comment before about Cabrio washer. I threw mine out and bought a simple washer, I will never have another whirlpool. The company I bought a new one from carried mine with them & said it would be chew up, I told them to chew it and send it back to whirlpool and this was the second one I had, don't buy a Cabrio, I would not have another one if someone wanted to give me a new one.

    one dime equals broken pump
    by: Anonymous

DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE....DEFECTIVE PUMP!!!!!
I have been married for 39 years this is my 3rd washing machine.
I bought a Whirlpool Cabrio top loading washing machine Model WTW6500WW December 12th, 2009. At first I was very pleased. It washed big loads, spun them very dry. Everything went well for 8 months. Then the pump broke. Water was all over the floor.
I called the repair man who told me that this is a common problem with the CABRIO. If you put coins in the machine.... which sometimes happens with a family.... they get sucked into the pump (which has plastic parts) and the pump breaks. Mind you, this never happened with any of my prior machines.
A new pump needed to be installed on 8/29/10. I was not happy but it was fixed and I was extra careful, but somehow a few more coins (not a pocket full.... just a few) found their way into the machine.... and on May 11th, 2011, I had to have a new pump installed again. (Should I be happy it lasted 9 months?)

It is now September 6th, 2011... and guess what?.... the pump is broken again and I have a service appointment for September 8th.

Obviously there is a defect with the machine and whirlpool should take responsibility.

Luckily, I did purchase the 5 year service contract when I bought the machine. So I did not have to pay for the repairs. However, this is more than inconvenient. I have to vacuum up gallons of water each time this happens. And I have to take time off for each service appointment, and I have to use the Laundromat in the interim.

I could see if I originally got a defective pump. But this is not the case. The service men agree. However, the second service person told me Whirlpool will do nothing; it would not be worth their time and money to configure a fix for this pump.

    Don't buy this washer
    by: Anonymous

this is the worst washer I have ever had. They took a front load concept and made it into a top load. I always have to do a second rinse on my clothes as the soap doesn't come out - even though I use less than recommended. This washer is a HUGE disappointment. Sad to spend $800 on a washer that doesn't work properly. It ties the clothes up in a knot and wiggles all over the place with spinning. BAD PURCHASE.

    Do NOT buy this machine
    by: Anonymous

The repair company is at out house right now. The machine is leaking water out of the bottom and most likely will need to be replaced. This washer did not make it two years. When it did work, the clothes get all balled up and the dryer cannot get the wrinkles out. I never imagined I would need to iron jeans. Whirlpool will not standy by the product and have not interest in repairing a machine that should last more than two years. DO NOT BUY A WHIRLPOOL.

Not REALLY a Whirlpool, just the name
    by: Anonymous

Just learned from my repair man that this machine is really a Korean machine with a Whirlpool name on it! I bought it because it had the Whirlpool name on it and my last two Whirlpools lasted 20 years each. This one made it less that 3 years. I also chose this one because it was supposed to be able to handle large loads -- said 16 pairs of jeans in the advertising! My repair man just told me to be careful about putting big loads in it because he said it cannot handle big loads without breaking. Clothes come out tangled up and so wrinkled the dryer cannot resolve the problem.

Spend several hundred dollars repairing my machine. Very disappointed in Whirlpool....they used to be so dependable.

    Don't Buy this Washer
    by: Anonymous

We are very unhappy with our Whirlpool Cabrio. For starters (and most important)it does a very poor job at cleaning clothes. Dirty clothes go in and dirty clothes come out. Second, it wrinkles (and tangles)the clothing even on a low spin cycle. We purchased it for it's large capacity and for the energy savings but its poor performance is making it less energy effecient; I can't put in a full load because it just won't clean the clothes and we are needing to use our dryer much more because of the bad wrinkles. I would recommend looking for a better washer which shouldn't be too difficult to find in comparison to the poor performance of the Cabrio.

    Hate my Whirlpool cabrio
    by: Anonymous

I hate my new WTW6300 top-loading Cabrio washer. Many happy years with Whirlpool washers led me to buy another Whirlpool, but boy did the gamefield change.
This upper end washer has no permanent press cycle. More frustrating is being told by Whirlpool and by the vendor that the option is gone because consumers don't want permanent press cycles. After buying this lemon I paid particular attention in stores to notice that every other washer does have a perma press cycle (sometimes renamed 'casual'). I hate being lied to, treated like an idiot.
Another major frustration is the machines tendency to wrap the clothes up into a knot. How can the clothes be freely washed in rinsed when tied up into a tight ball?
How do I get rid of this machine when both Whirlpool and the store tell me that the machine is (mal)functioning as designed?

    Unhappy
    by: Anonymous

This is the worst appliance I have ever owned. No override in settings. It takes 2 hrs for heavy soiled cycle to wash and have clothes that are still dirty. Clothing can not flow over due to not having enough water to allow them the float over. The only cycle that adds any amount of water to clean is the bulky cycle. Can't make it just spin a wet item. This is a energy star product, but time my time is important as well. This was my FIRST AND LAST CABRIO. I should have done my homework. VERY DISAPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Didn't last long
    by: Dead Cabrio

My Cabrio is almost 4 years old and needs a new motor. Now 4 years is not new but we only average 2 loads a week at the most. Whirlpool is repairing the washer for free although it is no longer under warranty. We were told by Whirlpool that our problem is a quality issue so we didn't have to argue about the repair cost. This is evidently widespread. After 12 days we are still waiting on the last of 3 boxes of parts to arrive, which were on back order. It may be another week for a total of 18 days with a broken washer. Our previous Maytag washer & dryer lasted for 19 years without a single repair. I would pass on a Cabrio.

I am very dissappointed in the washer. Have had (2). The first one the lid would not unlock and now when the washer starts and begins to wash and I have to reset it three times before it will wash. Final rinse have to do same thing twice. will cost $300.00 to get it fixed. Will never buy another cabrio.

    multiple break downs
    by: eball72177

This machine is a big disappointment.
It may save money on the electric bill, but costs a fortune in repairs. The top lock has broken 5 times. We have had a part replacement, then a
whole top replacement, and again the plastic lock has broken.
Along with that, it's also very temperamental and goes out of balance frequently. On the whole, I am exremely disappointed in this machine.

    Disappointment
    by: Anonymous

Not knowing that this machine was fully automatic I chose it due to a great price due to two rebates. I previously had a Maytag washing machine for 25 years.....it was a "true" gem!! My new Cabrio disappoints me since I don't think that i am able to override the automatic water level for each load. i do prefer washing my clothes in much more water.....so i guess I did not do my homework properly. I am truly disappointed in my choice...do you know if there is any way i can override the automatic low water level????If so my email address is:
    wigwam80@aol.com........................
    thank you
