Are you confused about the different washer types? Are you in the market for a new washing machine? If so, you probably want to get a quality machine that will be easy to use.

There are many features out there, including both front load and top load washers. Many people find themselves with the dilemma of figuring out which type of machine will actually be the best for them.

While there are both pros and cons to both type of washer, most people come up with a style that they prefer themselves. So, let’s take a closer look at both types of washers so you can decide which type of washer best fits your specific needs.

Top Loading Washing Machines

Top loading washing machines have been around for some time, but today there are two types of top loading machines, including the traditional top loaders and HE top loaders.

Traditional Top Loaders

For many years the traditional top loader washing machines has been the favorite for many people. This is a machine that is easy affordable for most people; in fact it is actually the cheapest type of machine on the market today.

Usually these machines are not as energy efficient as HE top loaders and they also are quite a bit louder as well. These machines fill up with water and then there is an agitator that spins around the clothing.

This type of machine is a bit rougher on clothes than other machines, and since it can spin as fast, they will take a bit more drying time as well.

HE Top Loaders

While HE top loaders still load from the top, they offer new and improved features that use less water, are more energy efficient, and that have higher spin speeds.

You can get more clothing in these machines as well, since you don’t have to worry about an agitator taking up space. They also do a better job on cleaning clothes as well, so you have to use a special type of detergent in these machines.

Advantages of Top Loaders

When it comes to top loading washing machines, there are a variety of great advantages associated with their use. The following are a few advantages to consider.

Advantage #1 – Faster Cycles – One advantage of going with a top loading machine is that they have faster cycles. Usually these loads are done quite a bit faster than loads that are done in front load machines. So, if you are a busy person who doesn’t have a lot of time, this may be a great choice for you.

Advantage #2 – Easy to Load and Empty – Another advantage of the top loaders is that they are easy to load and to empty. You don’t have to bend over to get your clothes in and out of the wash. So, if you have a bad back or you are a bit older, this may be a better choice.

Front Loading Washing Machines

At one point in time, it was front loading machines that were used commercially. No days you can actually purchase these machines for use in your own home.

They are affordable and do an excellent job on clothing. These machines have a door in the front of the machine instead of on top, and there are a variety of models available that have very advanced features.

Advantages of Front Loaders

There are a variety of different advantages that come with front loading washing machines as well. Here are just a few advantages to consider when looking at the front loaders and what they have to offer.

Advantage #1 – Energy Efficiency – Probably the main advantage of using front loading washing machines is that they are so energy efficient. They can actually save you about 60% on water and they use about 68% less energy that the top loading machines do. So, you will save quite a bit of money on your energy bills when you go with top loading machines.

Advantage #2 – Gentle on Clothing – Yet another advantage of front loading washing machines is that they are so gentle on clothing. They have a drum that has no agitator, so you don’t have to worry about your clothing getting caught or stretched out.

Comparing Front and Top Loaders

As you can see there are advantages to both front loading machines and top loading machines. However, there are disadvantages to both.

While the front loading machines are more energy efficient, they also take longer to wash clothes.

While there are some front loaders that have quick wash options, they will not work well on loads that are very dirty. Of course there are disadvantages to the top loaders as well.

They use quite a bit of water, unlike the front loaders and they are harder than your clothes as well.

Basically when you are choosing your washing machine, you are going to have to figure out which advantages are the most important to you.

Are you looking for a cheap machine or one that will save you money on your energy bill? Do you need a machine that is easy to load and does laundry quick, or are you looking for a machine that will do a better job and be more gentle on your clothes?

When you come up with the answers to these questions, you’ll be able to make the choice for your own specific needs.
