train the kids

by Judy
(La Conner, WA)

Kids can get in the habit of throwing their clean clothes in the laundry hamper, just so they won't have to hang the clothes up while cleaning their rooms.

Remind them that if they throw them down and they are clean, you are not washing them again.

Repeat Washes of kids Clothes
by: Anonymous

I have five teenagers, and putting away clothes has been the bain in our home for years. Recently I discovered that the teens love to change their clothes often(girls) and not so often(boys) depending on ehat the activity is that they are doing. Now I have the solution for the repeating of the clean clothes washing....Put a Large box in your garage and label it Lost and Found. When the clothing begins to repeat at the wash, throw the item into the Lost and Found. My Eldest now looks in the lost and found box every weekend, and finds her sisters things that she had wanted....It is a level of reverse psychology by letting them see someone else wearing the things that they thought were theirs. It worked for us...Try It!!!

Kids and their clothes
by: Anonymous

It's good to know I'm not the only one with this problem. I to found I was washing clean clothes over and over. My solution, I would refold them, and again send them up the stairs to be put away. The very next day I would find them again. So again I would refold them, and call them downstairs, and have them put them away. It finally dawned on them after about 4 days in a row, that they had just put the same clothes away "yesterday". They are getting a little better, since they hate having to keep climbing the stairs.

Kids and Laundry
by: Amy

I agree in setting lessons to help your kids learn to put their clothes away. I have found that yelling don't always work. However, if they are home and you are doing laundry, I always watch them at first and then tell them if they do it right I won't have to watch them do it. If they continue to put clothes away wrong, then I will watch them every single time. You will find that kids eventually will get sick of the "hawk eye" and will try to do it right.

Darn Kids!
by: Anonymous

I finally settled on this simple solution. If my kids put clean clothes in the laundry, I rub some dirt on them and put them in their closet like that. When all their little classmates make fun of the grape jelly on their socks, they learn the lesson but quick!

My kids often do this
by: Anonymous

My kids never want to put away their clothes. I finally noticed that I was washing way to many clothes and the same clothes time after time. Now I have to try to remember what I washed and if they even ever wore it before it gets washed again. Now if clothes aren't put away they lose their privlages.
