Remove Grease or Oil

by Kim
(Boston, MA)

To get out grease and/or oil from garments, pour a generous amount of baby powder on the stain and let sit at least overnight. The powder absorbs all the grease and oil and you can pre-treat like always and launder like usual.

Why dishwashing det. works on grease
by: Anonymous

Because it is a degreaser. I don't know all the technical stuff but it works, because it literally "takes grease, out of your way". If this isn't enough information for you, look it up.

Baby Powder is a miracle
by: Anonymous

I always use baby powder on oily stains. My sister lived in Rome for 10 years (lots of olive oil) and learned this trick there. even can work after something has been dried.

guess what i use to take out grease!

Dawn Dish washing detergent removes grease from clothes, but you have to get to it quick. It also removes infant formula and spit-up more effectively than anything else I tried. Just poor it directly on the stain and wash immediately.

Best for even dried in grease & oil
by: Anonymous

I've found that for even grease and oil stains that have been set by heat (such as the dryer) a product named "Goo Gone" works every time. They even make a Goo Gone pen now just for laundering.

I like using eiher of these. Liquid oxygenated dish soap or hand degreaser that mechanics use. These really work wonders and lift the grease rght out.

Another trick

When the grease/oil is set in or has already been washed, using dishwashing soap, such as Dawn, as a pre-treating option helps break up the grease so it comes out easier in the wash.

Dish Detergent
by: Anonymous

That's a good idea, although I haven't tried it yet. I've found that rubbing liquid dish detergent on a grease spot on clothes helps. Dish detergent is a degreasing agent, so it makes sense. It really works! I would make sure to do it right away, though, because if you leave it to set in it may not work so well.
