Miele Brand General Opinions for Washer and Dryers

by Never again
(VA)

I would NEVER purchase or recommend Miele washers - unless you want to spend over two hours washing a SINGLE load of laundry and spend the other half of your time waiting for the repair person once the warranty is up (computer problems and leaks).

I purchased the top of the line machines from my architect during a kitchen/laundry remodel and addition. He raved about them and since I have always had good luck with his recommendations in the past, I went with the $3,500 package (w/d).

I HATE them... there are just two people in my family and I spend at least two or three evenings a week doing laundry since the washer is SO SLOW!! If they had not cost so much I would drag them to the curb and go back to my Kitchenaids that never needed repair during their lifetime.

Also, if you happen to put anything with a slight bit of color in with light clothes, EVERYTHING takes on the "color" since there is so little water to dilute the bleed. Now my whites have pale green tinge from a very pale turquoise tee shirt.

If you value your time keep shopping!

Best of the Best
by: Anonymous

Owned a 1918 for 17 years and it has served a family of five until 4 years ago. You have to use the right detergent (very little of it). It has cleaned our clothes superbly. Our clothes also last longer due to the gentle action. The energy and detergent cost savings are HUGE compared with the standard North American washing machines. Service has been a bit of an issue, but it's so well made and easy to service I have done a belt change and door seal myself. The brushes had to be changed in the motor by a service tech after 10 years of hard use. I have used a Maytag dryer for the same length of time and it works well because the spin cycle is so good in the Miele, clothes are dry in 15-20 min. No question - a superior product and great value.

Miele Washers Leak
by: Laverne

The washer cleans clothes very well. It is five years old and leaks water on the floor. Despite over two months of emailing and phoning Miele, we cannot get a service response from Miele. We can only conclude that the washer is not repairable. We spread out towels to collect the water. I suggest you do not buy a Meile product as their service is non-existent.

Flawless performance
by: Anonymous

I have had a Meile W 1903 washer for 11 years. It has performed flawlessly. I have not had any problems with it and the matching dryer ( Novotronic Ti565C ). The only issue I have had was a blown fuse in the fusebox. Yes, they were expensive, but they do a great job and have been so reliable. What more can you ask for? I don't find the extra time the washer takes to do a load to be a problem, although I suspect it might be for someone with a large family.

miele service
by: Anonymous

Blown fuses on the connection box were a problem. This box attaches to the wall behind the washer and dryer and has 4 fuses in standard black fuse holders. Service guy said we needed to replace all 4 fuse holders which he would have to order. After one week we were told the fuse holders were back ordered and would not be available for two more weeks. I told them the fuse holders were standard equipment on many devices and that waiting three weeks total for standard parts was unacceptable. Miele sort of agreed with me, said they would research the problem and call me back, that was one week ago. THEY GAVE ME THE MIELE BRUSH-OFF.
So it looks like we will be without our washer & dryer for at least three weeks.
MY ADVICE, NEVER GET A MIELE, THEIR SERVICE ORGANIZATION IS A BAD JOKE AND WASHING CLOTHES TAKES FOREVER.

No Miele for me
by: Anonymous

Thank you for these reviews. I have now changed my mind about a Miele set. The last thing I need are experiences such as these. Kitchen Aid will have me looking at what they have comparable shortly.
Thanks again

Do Not Buy a Miele Product
by: Paul J Hanly

Here is the review I just did on Amazon of Miele:Do not buy this washing machine or for that matter any other product made by Miele.
I purchased this and it arrived nearly a month ago with a broken drain hose connector. Despite Miele's marketing claims of wonderful customer service, my experience has been miserable, and utterly sub-par as compared to my experiences with GE, Jenn-Aire, LG and other manufacturers (I have done numerous renovations in recent years and have purchased numerous large appliances). First, it was nearly impossible to reach their customer service department (waits on hold of up to 30 minutes). Second, after finally reaching them I was told it would take a week for them to send a tech to inspect the damage. Third, when the tech finally arrived he announced that he did not have the necessary parts and that they were not even in the U.S., but would have to be shipped from Germany. Fourth, I have received misleading assurances as to when the part would arrive: one customer service told me it would be "overnighted" from Germany and would be installed within 24 hours; when that did not occur I called again and a different rep told me he had no idea when the part would arrive nor when a tech would be sent to install it. Fifth, the customer service reps were downright disrespectful on the 'phone, suggesting that it was my fault for not discovering the defect immediately upon delivery (as if I am a washing machine technician capable of spotting the defect in an instant!!), and that I would "just have to be patient," as if I should not be surprised to receive a product in a broken condition. Sixth, unlike other manufacturers with which I have dealt, Miele has absolutely refused to replace the unit, but instead insists I wait for however long it will take for the part to arrive (it is now unclear to me whether the company even has the part in inventory!!). So, a month after delivery the machine sits uninstalled and broken.
In sum, deal with another company that (a) has a parts inventory in the U.S. and (b) takes customer service seriously: this company is all about getting your money and then ignoring you.

Not Happy
by: Anonymous

Bought a 4800 and a 9800. Dryer caught on fire after 3 years of light use because some plastic fan part broke inside. It's the biggest mistake of my life, very poor quality despite their reputation in the past. Stay away

great washing, various repairs
by: Anonymous

I have owned a Miele W1918 for 17 years and cannot imagine owning another washing machine. I hardly ever use the regular cycle since our clothes are washed perfectly well in the short, 30 minute cycle. I have three boys and have been doing lots of laundry in the past 17 years. In all that time I had to have the machine fixed twice. Considering that I cannot imagine another North American model to last that long, I would highly recommend it, especially if you want almost your clothes coming out almost dry without having used much water or electricity.

Miele Washing Nightmares
by: Captain Crunch

Purchased w4800 and T9800 Dryer. What a mistake.Had SEVENTEEN Service Calls on 4800 as it refused to work in Sanitize Cycle. Miele told me it was water supply, My ham fisted touch, etc but never the machine. The Service Man, was One of the Most competent fellows you would ever want, and was almost crying. No one had the slightest idea what to do. Called Florida Dept. of Consumer Affairs, Machine changed by Miele for a New 4802. Quit after Five Washes. Reason, Nylon Non Return Valve was not assembled at Factory correctly. Again, told it was my fault, used too much detergent, and I should tip machine forward to rid it of water in sump of machine. This from Tech. on 800 Number. Told him I was 82 and not willing to bust My Butt! Wish I had brought Top of Line Kenmores.

i question miele
by: Ed

I agree with a lot of the consumer review. However I question Miele's quality and the service. Since Miele only does the service they are the only company to call. Since they either have limited numbers of service people or they are very business I had to wait two plus week to get service. I also had six service call since I bought it less than three years ago.

Other issue is T9800 are very loud since they move alot of air. My neighbors have complained. I also have a two miele vacuum and one dishwasher and I love them.

best washer ever
by: Anonymous

Being european it's so funny to read these comments! americans in general don't care if their clothes actually get clean. it just has to be fast, big loads and smell nice!! my first years in the us I felt like a chemical analyst; pretreating every stain, bleach and still....nothing got clean!
Even worse...delicate fabrics got totally destroyed!
I can understand as clothes are so cheap here you just throw them out after shaking them in the "dildo-machine" for 15 minutes for a couple of times.
The horrible washing machines are the biggest frustration of any foreigner living in the US.
The front loaders are some sort of improvement but still ...nothing will get clean in 15-30 minutes!!

My second time in the US I threw out (after trying them for 6 months) a 1 year old frontloader maytag washer and dryer and i bought Mieles and was so relieved. No pretreating anymore-only the odd tomato stain. No bleach. It takes longer but.....it gets CLEAN and my clothes dont get destroyed

Poor customer service
by: Anonymous

I have recently purchased a Miele 4800 washing machine & dryer. Within one week I started having problems with the washing machine. Miele Canada has refused to replace the machine which has a defect. They continue to send out a service person and each time the problem re-occurs. Once my warranty is up, it will cost a fortune to continue fixing it. I will never purchase a Miele product again! I highly do NOT recommend a Miele product due to the lack of quality customer service.

great washer,great service
by: Anonymous

My Miele washer and dryer are about 10 years old,
and I am very happy with them.
My boys' socks are actually clean, and white shirts have no armpit stains. Clothes come almost dry out of the washer, so the dryer doesn't have to run so long. (cost efficient!)
It uses less soap and less water than regular machines. I needed a replacement lint trap and they send it to me for free right away. I was only on the phone for a few minutes. Also, my machine can be set for faster cycles, for less dirty clothes.
Love my Miele!!

Excellent Product
by: Anonymous

I have sensitive skin prone to itching if clothes are not washed perfectly clean. When we researched washing machines, we were looking for something that cleans well, rinses out ALL SOAP RESIDUE REALLY, REALLY WELL, can do various temperatures of wash, delicate wash and hand-wash items and keeps clothes looking like new. As a bonus, we wanted a machine that was energy efficient and uses less soap and water.

We decided on the Miele Novotronic 1926. WE LOVE IT! It is 10 years old and still going excellent. Once we had to get a valve replaced and it was $180 or something like this. Miele service was excellent. Apart from this one time, I have had absolutely amazing results from this machine. My clothes wash again and again and still look like new. I love the ability to disinfect clothes at a high temperature, example, when somebody has been sick, etc or to kill dust mites, and other allergens.

Yes, it does take a long time to wash. However, I really don't mind this. I am actually free during this time to do some work, do some errands, etc and then on my return the clothes are ready for the dryer. Guess what, because it spins at such a high revolution, the water is completely extracted from the clothes and they dry in a bare 20 minutes or I line dry. Also, there is a 30 minute rapid wash cycle if you need something in a hurry. I use this sometime for my teenager, who is last minute with things. :-)

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MACHINE. LOVE IT!
