Maytag Performa Model #PAVT920AWW

by R. Quattrini
(Monroe, LA, USA)

I bought my washing machine, a Maytag Performa (Model # PAVT920AWW), at Lowe’s two years ago when I graduated from college. My budget was small, but this machine has gotten the job done well since I’ve owned it. In fact, it is still going strong, and I hope it will continue to run for many more years. I have had no problems with it, either mechanically or in operation.

After my roommate moved out, I only had my laundry to do, and the Mini-Load feature has been great – it runs a smaller than small load, and doesn’t force you to waste water. The spin cycle gets clothes dry enough that I don’t have to run them through the dryer forever, which helps me save money on gas and electricity. I have a dog, and am constantly running his bedding and towels through the wash, and the Performa does a good job of getting the stains and hair out. For pet laundry I generally utilize the Extra Rinse Feature at the end of the Regular cycle to make sure absolutely everything comes clean.

While the Performa is not a fancy machine with timers and soak cycles, it does have 12 different options for cycles and water temperatures, and performs well. For anyone on a budget, I would recommend this machine.

Fully Agree.....Performa is Junk!
by: Anonymous

We bought a Performa Washer at Lowes 3 years ago, and within a year we had to spend over $100 to repair the clutch and water pump. Now the washer is broken again and we WILL NOT spend any more money on this piece of junk...and we WILL NEVER buy their product again. Shame on Maytag for being a part of this crappy product.

TERRIBLE MACHINES.
by: Lesley

and its matching dryer, Maytag Performa, Model PDET920AZW

TERRIBLE MACHINES. Have put up with them for 4 years, but no longer. Washer walks all over, no matter what we do to stop it. Dryer tumbles clothes into a big ball which doesn't dry. HATE THEM, and would never recommend Maytag laundry appliances to anyone.

Dissappointed!
by: Anonymous

The first year we had our Maytag Performa the transmission had to be replaced. It's been a few years of jumping and being out of balance with even a tiny load. Now it's making a terrible noise that I am afraid is the transmission again. Don't waste your money. As for the reader who bought their washer second hand and gave it 5 stars, the previous owner wouldn't have gotten rid of it if it worked well. JUNK!!!

Never again
by: Anonymous

This has been an awful experience with my washer bought at Lowes. I think Maytag and Lowes should have something to be ashamed about. I am sure Maytag has sold us their junk, sold out and moved on by now.
Oh well, I guess will go back to GE, Kenmore and whirlpool, were I should have stayed to begin with. This was my first maytag, performa. I had no idea it was junk. It is now used for target practice. Darn ting scared us so bad one night, I loaded the gun and decided later, great shot..

PERFORMA MAYTAG
by: Anonymous

Don't forget, it still has Maytag on it no matter where its made...it is a pc. of junk, bought in july of 05 and it has been noisy and was easy to get out of balance...transmission gone, told it would cost $75 to be told by Maytag service rep it was transmission and would cost a min of $150 to replace the warrantied part, went and bought 8spd Roper, I had purchased on in 2001 for son's apt. it has had three family members use it over the years and is still running fine when needed...shame on Maytag for putting their name on item...lost confindence in them and won't buy another one...

Repairman Comment
by: Washer Man

The Performa is actually a Magic Chef. Maytag bought them out years ago. Many people buy them thinking they're getting a deal on a Maytag when in fact, they're buying what I consider to be junk.
I always recommend Whirlpool. Buy the model with the least bells and whistles. Most folks use very few of them anyway. Buying a more expensive machine means you're simply buying expensive junk as they all are of lower quality than the in the "good ol' days", in my opinion.
The off balance problem on this machine is often difficult to figure out since it could result from a variety of origins however, we often found that by replacing the belt, the problem was solved.

Worst Machine
by: Anonymous

This is by far the worst appliance we have ever purchased over a 27 time period. It has been serviced numerous times and continues to be a problem after only having it a few years. How sad for Maytag to have made such a poor product.

Don't waste your money
by: Anonymous

i bought this machine from Lowe's on 9/26/2006...It broke down rght before Christmas of 2008. The last 3 months i had it, the clothes were damp after benig washed, and when I first got the machine it seemed off balance during the spn cycle, and the installer from Lowe's came back to rebalance it, and said it was fine that i just needed to break the washer in because many of the newer washers were like that. DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

This machine is junk
by: Tim

I have had the same problems. My washer wanted to constantly jump around (even though I had it perfectly level). After 15 months, the drainage hose sprung a leak and left 1 1/2 inches of water in my utility room. Finally, after about 19 months, the transmission went out. I was told it would be cheaper to buy a new machine than to repair this one.

I will NEVER buy another Performa washing machine. My money is too valuable to throw away 300-400 dollars every year and a half to two years.

only three years and won't spin
by: Steve

Had washing machine for just short of 3 years. Will not spin unless you push on agitator. Most likely brake or transmission problem. Will replace rather than fix. Will never buy another Maytag product again.

To all the Maytag Jumping arround....
by: Anonymous

Hi all, had that same problem and yes it bounced up and down and found the darn thing at the end of the water hoses dancing the twiss, jiterbug and the wall touseeeeee....

The first time the machine started bouncing and not knowing what was happening, scared me so bad I took off running outside down the road, lost 1 shoe and the other I got a blow out turning the corner at a curb........

What I did was sit back look at the poor salution of a washer I had and no Maytag or repairmen or repair woman was going to charge me money to repair this (jack in the box) this (no lience dance instructor) this (wake me up tumbling, banging piece of crap).

So I repaired it myself with $3.00 of 2 x 4 cut into a sq. to fit all around the base and nailed down to the cememt floor and told it if it moved I would beat it senseless with the wood. The problem stopped, no more moving arround. I garranty the only time it will move is when i get rid of it.

Anyways I hope this made your day. I looking into taking a picture of the washer held down woth 2x4 and sending on the internet leting others who don't know how to dance to stay away from this Maytag Performa or atlantis producs.

If you knoticed i have made spelling mistakes but not going to change them,I feel they are a part of the washer.

Have a great day all. And if you want to email me telling me about your problems we can cry togther or maybe find a salution....lol ... if_we_are_one@hotmail.com

performa washer combo rock crusher
by: maytag junk

The performa pavt920aww is a hunk of garbage! If the hoses and the drain hose weren't hooked up the washer machine would bounce all over your house, mine has already walked it's way out of the laundry room.

1 wet dish rag will throw it off balance to the point that it sounds and looks like you have put a 30lb. weight in it and turned it on the spin cycle.

I have ordered new springs and shubber to try to fix this piece of garbage. I will never own a Maytag appliance again

Washer and Dryer a BU$T
by: Anonymous

My Maytag set is a whopping 4 years old. I have been through 3 thermostats (last one just July) on the dryer and now need another. Its running on one again so it is not hot enough, and I have to restart a couple of times. The washer is seriously off balance, so the drain hose came loose and flooded our place and a little of the unit downstairs. SO I am looking at alot of $$$ to have both repaired. My mother warned me they had gone down hill...should have listened.

Do not waste your money
by: Anonymous

Bought this machine at lowes 2 years ago, after 9 months main bearing seized. Repaired on their crappy warrantee, they pay for the part, we pay labor such a stand up company. Since then machine makes a terrible grinding noise when stopping a cycle, constantly off balance, does not spin properly and leaves alot of water in the clothes which makes the dryer have to work harder. Maytag junk.. we are on our way to by a Kenmore. Our first Kenmore washer lasted 13 years with absolutely no problems, Maytag 2 years and out the door.

Save your Money II
by: Traci

I have had my performa for a little over 2 years. The wash basket constantly gets off balance and bangs around. A couple times I have had to move the machine back into place because it banged around so much it moved away from the wall. To have it repaired will be over $360. So now I have to go buy a new one.

Save your money!!
by: Anonymous

I purchased as I have been loyal to Maytag for years. I have had for 18 months and the washer has broken down. I have been in contact with Maytag and was given little assistance as the warranty period has ended. I have found out that the problem is the transmission and the repair cost is over $300. I will be replacing with a new machine, which obviousley will not be a Maytag. Another dissatisfied customer.
