Advantages

With the MVWB850WL washer from Maytag being ENERGY STAR-qualified, energy efficiency is one of its clear advantages. Due to its standard Maytag Technology and power wash feature, it is considered to be one of the top performing washing models from Maytag. If you are particular about clothes that are not only completely clean but completely free from bacteria and other allergens as well, this washer features the oxi cycle system, which is NSF-certified and is able to remove up to 99.9 percent of household bacteria. Moreover, the Clean Boost option makes pre-treating unnecessary, specifically with the built-in 1,200 watt heater.

Most super size capacity washers typically emit loud noise and vibration when being used, especially if there are large loads of laundry. However, the Smooth Balance suspension system eliminates noise and vibration, so you can install the unit anywhere in your home. Also, this machine is designed using the best materials, and the drive system has been tested and proven to last twice as long as the average washing machine in the market. Other advantages for this product include an extended 10-year warranty on the wash basket and washer motor, as well as the whites cycle that specifically caters to delicate white garments.

Disadvantages

Top loading machines often use more water than a front-loading machine, typically up to three times more, so as to cover all the clothes placed inside the drum. Also, most top-loading machines have an average spin mechanism of 650 rpm, compared to most front-loading washers with average spin speeds of 1,000 rpm or more.

Consumer thoughts

Pros

- reduced noise and vibration
- cleans clothes thoroughly
- extended warranty
- automatic dispensers for bleach, detergent, and fabric conditioner
- 14 wash cycles for different types of laundry
- MaxExtract extended spin option dries clothes in a shorter period
- selectable spin speeds
- oxi cycle removes up to 99.9% of bacteria
- commercial-grade, high quality components

Cons

- too much dry spinning
- lower spin speed and mechanism compared to front-loading washers

Great Washer
by: Billy

I've had this washer over 2 years and no problems. I've never experienced any of these problems that people are talking about???? Maybe your washer is off balance because you floor is not level?
Love my Maytag Bravos!

Yes, this washer DOES destroy clothing.
by: Jim N

Have had this washer for a little over 2 years now. Since day 1, it has had a tendency to put holes in shirts and actually destroy my bed linens. I wasn't happy to see a large hole in my bed sheets after washing them. I threw them out. The simple cause of this is that the Bravos doesn't add nearly enough water to allow the clothes to move freely while being washed. It's like the impeller just grinds the s__t out of the clothes as they're resting on the bottom of the washing machine basin.
To top that off, I just had a hot water valve go bad. That repair cost me about $250 out of my pocket earlier today. I paid about $1000 for the washer. Why someone at Maytag didn't see this obvious design problem is totally beyond me. I sort of hope this Bravos fails soon just so that I can replace it with a non-Maytag model.

Love this machine
by: Washer Girl

We have had tis machine for 4 months now and usally do at least one wash a day. The machine works great, it is very quiet and cleans the clothe every time. I don't know why people are saying that they are having all these problems with this machine (READ THE INSTRUCTIONS). I would recommend this machine to anyone looking to up grade.

I should have listened to my Mom
by: Anonymous

My Mom has Kenmore HE washer and dryer, and hates them. She warned me not to buy HE but I didn't listen. I bought the tag Bravo washer and dryer less than three months ago, and have called the repair service for the second time. The first call was in the first month. The first time the dryer needed a new fuse. Now the washer will not complete the fill cycle. The dryer never fully dries the towels unless I add 10 minutes, after the heavy duty cycle. If I could have seen how these things work in the store, I would not have bought them. If only I could trade them in for a traditional set.

Maytag Bravos
by: Anonymous

I had Maytag for 20 years and was pleased with it. Replaced it with Bravos and this machine is a big disappointment. My cloths come out with heavy wrinkles and still dirty. I have to rewash most of the cloths. DON'T BUY THIS MACHINE!!! I will replace it soon as I can but NOT with a Maytag.

Don't like this washer at all, and its working fine. Had to replace my calypso, since i was flooded. This seemed like the closest thing, but you don't know how its gonna perform in the store. Guess I should read reviews first. All the cycles are over 1 hr long!! Except rapid wash, and 38 min is not rapid to me. water stays in the fabric softener disp, and I don't even use it. Bells are annoying. Def. not worth the money, would have rather had red, but not an option in our neck of he woods I guess. These washers are all the same, but the CU FT are different, book is not helpful I don'[t even know what mine is, because its not on the book or washer. No size load setting. If anyone likes this washer, please tell me why and what I am missing. I have it one month.

My laundry comes out with same stains as before being washed. The liquid bleach dispensed started to rust after a few months. And OL and UL lights come on frequently so i have to resort the clothes. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MACHINE.

confused by feedback
by: Anonymous

spent the last 4 hrs doing laundry because our old washer no longer worked, I am not sure why people are having any problems with this machine. I have washed everything from towels to jeans to wifes delicates and not one problem. Machine is much quieter than old one, and spins clothes very dry. Some twisting with hoody but not nothing disastrous. I haven't had to spend anytime babysitting the machine and we are completed the wash much quicker than the old ones. Worth the money so far.

Don't Buy Bravos
by: Anonymous

We bought the Bravos from Home Depot for over $1k. Loved the stainless steel, large, energy and water saving features. However, the machine had problems since Day 1. Haven't called for service yet since work schedule is tight. It's 3 years now and more problems every day. The machine kept on stopping, either due to uneven loads, or circuit problems. It beeps until you shut it off and restart. It stopped more often now than ever. Our 3 year warranty just ran out and we must call and pay for service now. You cannot wash a load unless you stand by like in laundromat and need to manually shuts it off and restarts over and over again. Very annoying. Pls. pick and buy something else. The money we spent is wasted.

F 51 code
by: washed out

we bought the Bravos 2 months ago - just got "F51" code - I understand from reading on the net its a sensor problem withe motor - and apparently very common especially on Kenmore machines(made by Maytag)

what happened to the quality "Made in America" products we used to have - not anymore...

Lid Issue
by: Anonymous

Bought my Maytag on November 21 have done four loads of laundry on my second service call for lid lock issue. They can take this machine back - it is horrible. I had an Amana for 17 years and not one single service call. I wish I had my Amana back.

Totally disappointed
by: Anonymous

This machine ties clothes and sheets in knots and puts in wrinkles that never come out. The lowest spin speed is still too fast and "wrinkle free" clothes now need to be ironed. Must use a power boost with detergent or nothing gets cleaned. A terrible machine. The matching gas dryer is great but overpriced. We bought the steam option and even that doesn't get the wrinkles out! Dont' buy!

Disappointed, would never recommend
by: Anonymous

Water does not completely cover clothes, so distribution of detergent and bleach is uneven. Have had items of clothing ruined on two occasions due to 'leftover' bleach residue inside the tub when running a dark load after a white load with bleach. I followed directions to a tee and still have these problems. The machine has been a disappointment that does not compare to my reliable 20 year-old Maytag.

MAYTAG/WHIRLPOOL STILL JUNK!!
by: Larry

4th service call. Same problem as before, lid open error. replaced circuit board. about 11 small relays and lights on it. worked for two loads again this time another week before they can get here to service it,another week for the part to arrive another week to schedule and get it installed. MAYTAG WASHERS ARE JUNK!! Do not buy one if you expect to do clothes washing. Bravo series was supposed to be whirlpools big improvement. they won't even work.

Maytag/Whirlpool is Junk
by: Larry

Delivered yesterday. Bought for large capacity and word of salesperson at Home Depot and mothers old one. Washed two loads, lid light came on, called customer service, they said I must have done something to it I didn't), and gave me a repair service number to call. Stated it may take 10-16 days to get on their schedule. Meanwhile no washer. Noisier than any washer I've ever owned. But it's got a cute little chime and lots of lights to watch while it's not working.

Disappointed
by: Sharon

I was sold on the large capacity since I like to wash my king size cotton blankets. However, you must stand by and never go far from the machine since it has to be watched, paused, and re-distributed very frequently because you get the "unbalanced load" error and the machine starts to dance. The blanket ends up in a tight ball. Had service and called the company and was told to put a rug in to balance it and use a very low spin cycle. I still get an unbalanced load "BALL" but now it has a rug balled up inside the blanket. Not very happy at all.

The second issue for me is the "Liquid Bleach Dispenser" which has caused the whole corner of the machine to turn yellow after 3 months using the machine. Even when the lid is closed, you can see the yellowing. Right above the Bleach Dispenser is a plastic tab which hides a screw. I see rust on the yellowed plastic housing. Very disconcerting!

Clothes come out dirty
by: Anonymous

We are in the country and have 2 small boys who love to play in the sand and dirt. I bought this washing machine becuase of its large capacity and great cleaning ability, (or so I was told by the sales person). When I put in a load of dirty and soiled clothes, the clothes are coming out as dirty as the go in. I was told by the company to put in smaller loads, which I think defeats the propose of buying the larger, more expensive washer. My old Kenmore cleaned clothes better then this new machine I have. Very disappointed with the cleaning.
