LG brand WM2010CW washer/dryer combo
I'm enjoying this machine. It's very energy efficient, doesn't take up a lot of space, and was cheap (around $600US). It doesn't need any sort of venting, not even a lint trap attached to a hose.
One really cool thing about it is that you can put the clothes in the machine, start it up, and then leave for work or go to sleep, since the laundry doesn't need to be changed over to the dryer. One friend told me this isn’t a good idea because of the fire hazard, but especially given that it’s not vented, it seems highly unlikely that it would catch on fire.
It does take 2-3 hours to run through, which can be annoying if you want something really fast, but the booklet says it uses less energy per cycle than most any other machine, so at least it's not wasting energy during the long cycle. It also doesn't hold very much -- like half an armload of towels or a couple outfits. Not a big deal if you can just adjust your washing habits accordingly, but something to be aware of and get used to. LG appliances were hard previously hard to find in the US except at high-end appliance places that tend to get the newest of everything, but they’re now selling them at several of the big-box retailers, which is convenient.
I haven’t needed any parts or maintenance for mine, but a coworker who has a different LG machine needed a part for it and tells me the process was really hassle-free, which influenced my decision to get this machine.
I give it a 4 out of 5.
