Kenmore Elite Oasis 27086

by 98 Magred
(Norton, Ohio)

My Kenmore washing machine is approximately 16 months old. My wife went to do a load of Laundry and no power, nothing. Called Sears and Kenmore...I was told about the thousands of complaints with the control board. I was told they were upgrading the control board and there would be a recall.

It was tied up with Lawyers and should be resolved within a few weeks. I asked about a replacement part and was told they were on backorder due to the upgrade. They said the new board should be available in 2-3 weeks. It is now going on 8 weeks….no recall…no part….I have read through several hundreds of complaints on the same problem.

Both Kenmore and Sears continue to give people the runaround and no solution. All they do is give excuses for the delay with no end in sight. I was told today that there is still no recall or part available. They offered me an extended warranty for $250 and said if they were unable to fix the washer they would give me $500 towards a new one.

I paid over $1,000 for this one and it only lasted 16 months, why would I want another Kenmore? Please Google Kenmore Oasis problems before you purchase one. I will never buy another Kenmore…not because of the problem…but because of the lack of support behind the product. With all the complaints they received, neither Sears nor Kenmore stepped up to resolve this issue…

Kenmore oasis washer nightmare
by: Katie C

I have a Kenmore Oasis Elite purchased in 2007. I paid for extended warranties for 5 years and during that time had 15 or 20 service calls for Every problem listed here, basically the entire washer has been rebuilt . My last service call was Feb 2012 and the last extended warrenty expired shortly thereafter. I decided to stop throwing good money after bad and did not renew the warranty in 2012. Now in Dec 2013 I'm getting the F1 error code every time I try to start the washer, so the last repair lasted less than 2 years. Sears recall dept told me that my washer is not covered under the recall because serial number starts with CUO and part will cost $200 plus labor. If there is a class action lawsuit, please tell me how I can join it.
Thanks!

Piece of Junk
by: Anonymous

After reading some of these comments, I agree with most, this is a piece of junk! I bought this washer in 2007 for approximately $850. I have the issue where if not unplugged, the washing machine beeps randomly and will start filling with water and flash UL. I think it is possessed. When it does wash a load of clothes, it continues to beep and flash through the modifiers on the control panel. I was also told by Sears that it is the control board, which would cost $400 for the part. That is an outrageous amount for something that should last a lot longer! This should be a recalled part especially with all of the reviews I have read that consumers are having similar problems with this same issue. Since Sears has failed to accept this as a defective part in the washer, I will NEVER buy a Kenmore product again.

Kenmore Elite Oasis Huge Mistake
by: Anonymous

I have NEVER posted a review on any product before.
But this washing machine aggravates the fire out of me. Control panel went out twice. After joining the class action suit against Kenmore finally replaced the panel $40.00. The Sears technician said they have had most problems with this washer than any other. My machine continually shows the UL indicator; it wobbles, rocks and making a horrific knocking sound until I can run to it and stop the machine. Then I have to start all over again. So,
this machine is the most INEFFICIENT washer I have had over the past 40 years. I am now going to throw this 3 year washer away and buy another brand all together. I can't try to sell the product, because I cannot lie about "how great the machine". I regretted buying this machine about 3 months ago it was purchased.

Kenmore Oasis a piece of junk!
by: Anonymous

I have had this washer serviced 6 times since I purchased it a few years ago. Combination of electrical board replacement, pump replacement, and COINS in the basket! How pathetic to pay a service person $100 to remove a nickel from my washer! I have a HUGE sign above my washer that warns my family to check their pockets - but somehow one slips in every few months. Of course, I can't remove the coins because they are under the washer unit, and I have to tip it over, etc. WHAT TO DO!!! I just called the service person AGAIN because I need to get my clothes clean without the LOUD NOISES of the coins in the washer. I have practically spent the same amount of money repairing the washer as what I paid for it new at SEARS!!!

Worst Washer Ever
by: Anonymous

I inherited these Kenmore Elite Oasis washer and Dryer set, they were only 3 years old. I thought oh'boy as my perfectly working non-matching set was old (two different colors, etc., and I gave them away. Worst mistake. The Oasis washer is the biggest piece of crap on the planet. It doesn't even get the clothes clean. Noisier than living near an airport. I hate this washer and I know it won't be hard to find a descent used washer that will out perform this bucket of bolts. This washer should be rated -5 stars. Oh and the dryer doesn't even get the clothes dry unless you run the dry cycle twice, that's real energy efficiency! (HA). What a joke.

Washer banging and going off balance
by: Man vs Machine

I had the same problem in the final spin (1500 RPM). The suspension needs to be replaced. It is easy to do for a basic handyman. The website below shows a step by step procedure to do it yourself AND they sell parts less than SEARS.
I did it by observation and found this website later.

Remember, if the machine refuses to work, it becomes the master, and you are the slave. You must fix it and show it that you are the master.

What are you going to do? I hear that machine laughing at you.

Teach it a lesson, and make it do what it is designed to do and show it you are always the master.

Kenmore Elite Oasis piece of junk
by: Anonymous

Washer is 6 years old, I paid over $1,000 for it. Within the first 18 months, had to have the control panel fixed. In the past 6 months or so, every load of laundry is a nightmare. The washer gets down to 12 minutes left in the cycle, rumbles around -- I think it's going to fly out the window -- and the UL message code appears. No matter how many times I re-arrange the load, it refills and attempts unsuccessfully to spin the load and finish the cycle. I have had occasions where after trying a dozen times to get the washer to complete the cycle, I have had to manually wring out the clothes!!! Repeated contact to Sears supposedly customer service (a joke) produced nothing but more frustration. They wanted me to call and schedule a repair (at my cost). What a bunch of garbage!!! I feel like putting the thing in the trash. It unnerves me that I spent so much money on this and only got barely 6 years of use out of it and even in that time had to repair it for a cost of over $200. Never buy another Sears product again!!! Not only is it poor quality, but Sears customer service is non-existent. To sell such a poor quality appliance, realize their mistake, and then not attempt to reimburse the consumer at least by fixing the issue that everyone seems to be having, is deplorable!

Sears Simply Doesn't Care
by: Roberta Ward

First thing that happened early on was that the computer/circuit board (?)went out. Luckily I had bought the protection pkg. so I didn't have to pay for that. Next thing was that it kept getting off balance and the UL = unbalanced load light kept coming on. Didn't matter what was in the washer at the time. Had the Sears repair folks out 2-3 times to fix the "rocker arms". Repairman told me the washers were "pieces of you-know-what". Said it's the worst washer I could have bought. I called Sears and they said since the manufacturer's warranty was up, they couldn't do anything. After the service agreement expired, I didn't want to pay the fee so I've been dealing with this problem every single time I do a load of laundry. The washer is on the second floor, off the master bedroom and it makes a load noise and is very unnerving. I called Sears again and got absolutely no satisfaction. This time they said since the washer is 6 years old they didn't even understand why I was calling. I'm considering putting it in our front yard with a huge sign on it saying what a lemon we got.

We have had our unit service over and over and it never last more than a day. My wife for the last four years has been using our old machine sitting next to her new one. After two times my wife let the unit sit, after a while she has someone come out to service again and the same thing, this last time never made a full load. there should have been a recall or full money back on such equipment. Will never buy from Sears again. So the old machine will have to do. All I wanted was to make my wife's life a little easier, not more stressful.

Totally dead due to lack of parts in 5 yrs
by: Anonymous

I purchased this same horrible horrible washer and dryer set, and in 5 yrs, after repeated service calls and four different part replacements including the main board, there came a part that the "manufacturer" no long made and therefore it could not be repaired. $1,000 lasts 5 yrs with repairs every year???? Sears offered nothing but $150 toward a washer I bought at full price from them. There should be a class aciton lawsuit with everyone having trouble. Isn't there a lawyer who has one of these machines?

I HATE this washer!
by: Terry

I bought my Kenmore Elite Oasis from Sears in 2008. I hated it the first time I used it. From sensor code errors to dirty clothes, it was an expensive piece of crap! I didn't want the warrenty but the Sears rep practically insisted, so we paid the extra for a 3 year warrenty. Little did we know that they wouldn't honor the warrenty unless we had the repair man come out three times for the same issue! Why?~! The damn thing don't work, so why do I have to take off work THREE times for them to come out and look at it before agreeing to replace it with my forced on warrenty?! I told Sears if they didn't make this right I would NEVER buy from them again. I am 62 years old and had bought every appliance I ever owned from Sears....but never again since 2008 when I bought this Elite Oasis that leaves the clothes filthy and doesn't work properly.

Sh#tty Sh#tty Bang Bang
by: I feel like I'm a nonperson

My husband bought me for our anniversary a Kenmore Elite washer and dryer with a 3 year warranty. How happy we were until the nightmares began. A few months later my washer during the spin cycle started to bang so loud it hurt our ears. My husband has PTSD (he is a war veteran) he wanted to shoot the dame washer when he found out that honest Abe (penny) wreaked the whole pump! Repair man said we were at fault because we didn't check our pockets. Well to make a long story short this happened a total of 4 times. We payed almost $2,000 dollars for a SH#TTY SH#TTY BANG BANG CRAPPY WASHER!!! Called Sears and talked to robots that treated me like a nonperson. They said you need to calm down Mrs. Nonperson. My reply was no I have been ripped off by a engineer that knows how to rip the consumer off by having to keep paying a repair man over and over money that we shouldn't have to pay. All I wanted was a well made washer to wash my clothes. Well folks BEWARE don't buy from Kenmore or Sears!!! They have lost another customer. Will not even shop at a Sears store after all the lies. Told them this was a LEMON and just wanted to exchange for a different washer. Well when my washer go's into that spin cycle I cross my fingers and pray that SH#TTY SH#TTY BANG BANG gives me a few more days of clean laundry...I'm I asking to much? Oh I forgot SEARS thinks I'm a NONPERSON...AMEN

My Oasis was Bought about six years ago it has always had issues with error codes; at the begining of the year the electronic board went out, I am on my fourth board in 3-1/2 months and because it is over 30 days I was charged for this ...I thought that parts were suppose to last longer than 30 days....Sears must be making a great profit off there replacement parts....My husband wanted to buy a new washer..I told him I am not buying another washer when they can't fix the issues with this on..I would like to know what country their parts are made in, we never had problems when they were made in AMERICA. I will not buy another SEARS APPLIANCE , THEIR PRODUCTS HAVE GONE DOWN HILL THEIR STANDARDS ARE THAT OF A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY.MINE ARE NOT....my next washer is going to be a:Staber washing machine. Made in the U.S. Staber washers operate similar to a front loading washer except you maintain top loading convenience, there is no mildew build-up or odor as with front load machines, and Staber washers are more durable.

I bought an Oasis Elite Kenmore washer a few years ago. Have had problems with error codes; electronic board went out at the begining of the year it is now April and I am on my fourth board....and have been charged for this last one because it was over 30 days since the replacement prior to this one..I though these things were suppose to last more than thirty days...my husband thought we should buy a new machine..why would I buy a new one when apparently they have issues with their products working.....I would like to know where their parts are produced...because we never had this problem with AMERICAN parts.....Sears needs to find a company / contractor that can actually build quality parts for their washing machines...TRY building them in America...where parts are built with pride and quality....this will be my next washing machine:Staber washing machines are the most efficient clothes washers available and cost less to use based on total energy, water, and detergent usage. Staber is the only top load horizontal-axis clothes washer made in the U.S. Staber washers operate similar to a front loading washer except you maintain top loading convenience, there is no mildew build-up or odor as with front load machines, and Staber washers are more durable.

Coins rupture pump housing
by: Anonymous

We moved into our new home in Jan 2008 and purchased what we thought were top of the line appliances. I have replaced the water pump 3 times and during Feb 2012 the 4th pump was broken by a coin. They know they have a problem. The third pump had the pump housing reinforced with ribs. But that is not a working solution. The 4th pump lasted only 3 months. We have owned a few washing machines during our 30 years of marriage and never a problem like this. My mother had the same machine for decades no problem with coins. I buy American products but the next appliances will be German or Japanese. The US appliance industry needs their heads handed to them as the US auto industry did. (I was a Ford product design engineer for 6 years – they made junk in the late 70’s into the 80’s. I own all Fords now that they make good cars.) That is the only way the bean counters and idiots in management will be replaced and allow the engineers to do what they love to do – design good products! The first time the pump broke it flooded my home. The other times the leak detector alerted us. I am ready to dump these 4 year old $1000 each machines. What saving did these fancy machines provide? My down stairs ceiling needs a paint job due to water damage. My cabinet base is swollen and warped due to water damage. Four replacement pumps have cost about $400. Sears is where this guy use to shop but never again for appliances.

Bought a useless Kenmore Oasis
by: Johnny in North Carolina

We purchased the kenmore oasis elite and like so
many on here have commented on here. We purchased the oasis paid top dollar and after the first year the mother board had to be replaced then the lid hinge broke now all you do when it is rinsing is continually rearrange the clothes just to have to do it again and again with no luck. Then have to wring the clothes out by hand and use the dryer longer than necessary to dry clothes. This machine is a disgrace to have in ones home. It does not qualify to be a boat anchor and If I was to try and sell it at the salvage yard I would more than likely get laughed out of the building. But one thing is for sure the next washer will not come from sears. What a waste of customers time and money . Johnny in North Carolina

Kenmore Elite Oasis
by: Anonymous

After 20 years of marriage and 3 children, I can honestly say that the purchase of this machine along with its companion dryer was probably the BIGGEST MISTAKE I have ever made!! They are both a piece of JUNK! My husband & I purchase a Kenmore washer and dryer when we got married in 1991. Both worked wonderfully until about 3 years ago. The washer started leaking water, but the dryer still worked great. Feeling that after all these years and endless loads of laundry that I deserved a new set, I went out and purchased the Kenmore Elite Oasis. In no way does it begin to compare to the quality of the old model. I immediately was disappointed with the cleanliness of my clothes and the long wash cycles, but I adjusted. During the first year the motor on the washer had to be replaced because a nickel got in the motor. Sears told us that owner's manual specifically states that coins should be removed from pockets. Give me a break!! How many of us have never washed money! It is poorly designed machine that allows money to get into the motor. We have had bearings in the tub replaced only a couple of months ago & now it stops every time it starts to the spin cycle. Once you get it restarted it begans to wash again rather that starting back at the spin cycle. After an undetermined number of cycles of this, it will complete the wash. When we purchased our glorious new washer/dryer set, fortunately we moved the old set out to our shed to use for 4 wheeler & hunting clothes. I am currently washing clothes in my shed to avoid using the piece of junk in my house! I refuse to put any more money in repairing what I have so I am looking for a new washer. I am hesitant to buy anything for fear I'll just get another expensive lemon. The dryer isn't much better...it is supposed to turn off automatically when the clothes are dry - what a joke. It may dry for 30 minutes & when you check the clothes they are still wet. It may dry for 2 hours & when you check the clothes they are dry, but it was still drying. No energy savings there! No quality & no service! Pathetic piece of crap that isn't worthy of a junk yard!

I purchased my Oasis 5yrs ago. After about a year I got the f1, Ld, Sp, codes. After about 2yrs of repair after repair under my warrenty. I fought like hell to have the machine replaced. They replaced the machine witha brand new on 2yrs ago. They would not allow me to get the warrenty at the price it would be for brand new even though it was a brand new washer. It was about $250 for a year. I figured in a year it was still under manufactures warrenty and all the kinks would be worked out. I've had the machine the new machine for 2yrs. Now Guess What!!! Water is leaking out the bottom right side. Not under warrenty of any kind. So frustrated with this machine. Kenmore Sucks!! Sears Service Center Sucks!! Sears Technicians Clueless!!! Do not buy the Kenmore Oasis!! Biggest Piece of Junk!!

Bought a new sensor top Kenmore washer, a piece of junk. Last week short of 3 months of using it , started with the rinse/spin not working , then to doing nothing at all..called repair who sent a guy over a week later, he said it needed parts & he be back in a couple of days. Waited for 2 weeks or more , then called again . they said parts could not be found in Canada & they were looking in the U.S.for them ,but couldnt get them there as the numbers were different there. So went to the Sears store here in Parksville where I purchased the machine, for a refund . Now they say they can't refund because I had it longer than 30 days . Actually headquarters has to do the refunding but I have to wait another 3/4 weeks incase they might find some parts. I've been without a washing machine for a month already

OL Problem Repaired
by: Anonymous

After having the control board replaced twice under the recall the OL problem returned a few months later. I called the recall line again and they scheduled a service call under the 90 day warranty from the call to replace the 2nd board.
Sears came out and determined that the inner tub (basket) and the outer tub needed to be replaced. They offered to to the job for a labor only price of $159 and provide the $400 worth of parts at no charge. Two weeks later they came back with the parts and two techs and did the replacement. All is working well - for now.
I'm not happy with the fact that this machine has needed 3 service calls in 4 years or that the parts failed so quickly but I do have to say that Sears has stood behind the product and, IMO, gone beyond my expectations in providing the parts for this last repair.
While I will never buy another washer manufactured by Whirlpool, I would still buy from Sears. If I had purchased an Oasis from another store and had to rely on independent servicers I do not think I would have fared as well.

I cant even begin to list all of the problems this peice of crap has. $2200 for a pair of problems. The best advice I can give anyone is to not even bother with Sears. I worked for them over 25 years ago. Told my wife I would not buy any products from them until she talked me into buying the Oasis. It has been a nightmare. Called out repair men 3 times on the dryer ( less than 2 years old) Wasted my time. Took over 6 wks to get my money back for the wrong parts. Sears is a big ass joke. Back when I worked for them they had a manual of coverages for maintenance agreements that they had us preach to our customers. Found out the coverages were lies because my parents bought a MA from me on a water heater. The service people asked my father what salesman lied to you. He said "my son". I refused to sale them to customers after that and was fired. I am DONE WITH SEARS. I know that products sometimes have issues , but they quit backing up their products. Sears used to be the place you could trust. No longer true. The only way they can stay in business is thru charging high interest rates to their customers.

Report this to CPSC
by: Vicky Reed

Sears now says that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has set the model/serial number range for the recall, and they're the only ones who can include other model/serial numbers.

Here is a link to an incident report to the CPSC: http://www.saferproducts.gov/ViewIncident/1170505

After you read the report, go to the top of the page and click on Report An Unsafe Product and fill out the form. In the Incident Description box give them your model and serial numbers and ask that they be included in the recall. If enough people let them know that ALL the models and serial numbers are having exactly the same problem as the ones in the recall, maybe they'll make Sears fix them all for free.

Frustrated Kenmore Owner
by: Chad R

We have had nothing but problems with our Kenmore Oasis washer and dryer set. We purchased our set in 2007 and within about a year we started having error codes and the washer would stop working. We called Sears and they sent out a repairman who replaced the control board under warranty. Not more than a few months went by before we were having troubles again. By this time, Sears was recalling the board and replaced it again. Meanwhile our dryer started constantly beeping throughout the entire dry cycle. We have to close the laudry room door to keep our sanity! Now the washer is acting up again. The panel flashes an Sd code which indicates that it has either detected too much suds or there's a slow drain issue. The washer will go through the most of the wash cycle, but stops 12 minutes shy of completing the spin cycle. We have tried running the washer several times without any detergent and have run the machine through the clean cycle, but it makes no difference. I also heard that things can get stuck in the pump and drain pipe which can slow the draining of the machine. I detached the hose from the pump and found it to be free of any debris. I called the recall number and explained to the man that I was having problems with my machine and expressed that I thought my control panel was faulty. He responded by saying that Sears had already replaced the control board through the recall program and that the new part was only warranteed for 90 days after the repair. He told me he could send out a technician for $129 who would diagnose the problem and then we would be responsible for any repairs beyond that. I told him that was unacceptable given that this is a well known issue with this washer. He stated that this was all he could do. I then told him that I would be returning my washing machine to the nearest Sears front door with the words "Never buy a Kenmore" spray painted on the front. He promptly hung up on me. The person at the customer care center was much more cordial and offered to send out a repair man for only $75 (I'm not sure why the difference in pricing). I told her that it was still unacceptable to pay for a repair bill of up to $400 that constitutes nearly 70 percent of the original purchase price. Needless to say, I'm fed up. I won't be buying more appliances at Sears and since Whirlpool is the manufacturer, I won't be buying a Whirlpool or a Maytag since they are all one and the same. I hope a class action lawsuit is brought against these guys! If you see a spray painted washer at the front entrance of Sears, you'll know where it came from!

We have seen everything from codes F1, F51, 88, OL, UL, C0, and others including all the lights flashing and the machine turning on for no reason while we are eating dinner. It actually turned on and jumped across the room last week while we ate dinner! After reading multiple complaints on multiple sites, I decided to try to get someone to help me based on some of the phone numbers that people have given. Apparently my model number ending in 04 is the only one that is not covered under their "upgrade" or recall. Machines with numbers ending on 01, 02 and 03 are covered in case you have one. I called and was transferred to 7 different offices and everyone told me that for $129.99 a technician could come tell me the problem. Then we can pay for a new part. We know the problem. The computer is fried! The last lady that I talked to at Kenmore, named Hugh, actually told me that I should not be so upset because it is almost 4 years old and they are not supposed to last forever and if I had that big of a problem she could send me a coupon for 10% off a new appliance from Sears. We have had this machine repaired 5 times in 4 years and they are not willing to help us or consider it a lemon because we had some of the service done by people other than Sears.

we (i and my wife) purchased this machine 2 years ago from sears and it was the worst washer we ever bought. when we bought it, sears rep. highly recomended it. the error codes we get are F7 and F51. we replaced the control board and we were able to get rid of the F7 code, but not the F51. it's very frustrating and sears are no help. we paid $810.00 and what a waste. we think that sears should recall this machine and refund the customers their hard earing money.

Same As Above

I have the same group of problems with my Kenmore Elite Oasis unit. Loud banging noise as machine goes into spin. Was told by Sears repair under warranty this was being caused by low water pressure at my old house....now, new house, excellent pressure, same problem. The thing also doesnt seem to fill up enough leaving clothes unclean on larger loads? POS

Problems from the get-go
by: Brad

Whirlpool and Sears have a real stinker on their hands with this one. Between the f51 and f1 error codes, machines leaking, pumps becoming clogged, garments knotted and twisted, and the interior areas of the cabinet rusting, these machines are nothing but problems.

Kenmore and Whirlpool are not exactly the same. Kenmore is a brand owned by Sears. Sears sources Kenmore appliances from many different manufacturers, Whirlpool being chief among them.

Worst Washer Ever
by: Most Disappointed

We've had too much trouble with this washer in comparison to price paid and expectations of this brand. The service rep has visited us twice, and have dug deep into the pocket. Even the service rep indicated this unit is unreliable. I haven't checked but I wonder if these things are still made in the U.S. I bet not.

If you looking for a washer I emphatically do not recommend this one.

I had a Sears maintenance agreement on my old washer and when the replacement part was not available they did indeed provide a store credit for the original purchase price to be used towards a new machine.

EXTENDED WARRANTY WARNING
by: Anonymous

The statement ?If you purchase an Extended Warranty / Master Protection Plan and we are unable to repair your Kenmore Elite Oasis we will pay you cost of replacement? is a flagrant lie designed to scam you out of even more money, it is as unless as the machine. The REPLACEMENT AND NO LEMON GUARANTEE provision's limitations require the machine be determined unrepairable by the Warranty Company, (a determination forwhich there is no stipulated formula), OR you can request replacement if four or more separate product failures due to a defect in parts or workmanship,(also determined by the Warranty Company) occur within any continuous 12 month period that the machine is covered. NOT including any recalled parts and you must request replacement within 60 days from the forth failure.

The replacement board arrived just 2 days after I made the call and the tech came out on time as scheduled to install the board. The washer is working properly now. I had an interesting chat with the tech while he was working on the machine. He knows of the problems with the board and always has some on his truck. He said that he always checks to see if a machine is covered under the upgrade to save the customer money by replacing it for free. Apparently Sears/Kenmore is moving more of their product line to machines produced by LG rather than Whirlpool and Frigidaire, their longtime suppliers.

Problems with the Elite Oasis bought 11-08 cloths have a strange smell, LOUD NOISE, twisted & tangled cloths. Service man could find nothing wrong with it when it was under warrant, now it has stopped working. Called 5 different # and I do not want to pay $129. just for a service call. The cost to fix will be added to that. The Oasis is not worth fixing!!! Too bad so many people have wasted around $900. NOT HAPPY!!

Same song second verse ...
by: Anonymous

I have the Oasis, first day off the delivery truck, Motherboard failure ! BLASTED COMPUTERS.
I've had problems with the washer AND dryer ... the dryer belt and contraption associated withthe drum turning will BREAK if you dry tennis shoes..you must use the shelf and dry the shoes alone, not with clothing. An issue when kids play outdoors and get shoes wet or athletic and need them washed frequently...drying one thing at a time has to be NON Energy efficient.
But that was the least of my worries....its a good thing you can't pick up the appliance with receipt in hand and return it at customer service at the store because I think they'd have their hands fullat Sears !!! Moral of the story with appliances, esp washers and dryers...the less computerized the better, get old fashioned knobs and not push button/computerized. Eliminates the issue regardless of the model/brand.
Atleast then you are back to basics.
Don't give up....my initial problems were under the 1 year warranty.....another year covered by my homeowners warranty ... then I jumped up and down at One Care and had to pay for labor but not parts AND they sent me 2 $100.00 Sears giftcards which I used on other household necessities so it all came out in the wash, pardon the pun.
HOWEVER, I later had a problem with the washer and when I called they su ggested I spend about 130. for 1 year of warranty and during that year I get one free maintenance service on the machine. So it was worth it....with the one year warranty,t hey came out and fixed whatever it was and did a free maintenance service as well. Turned out THAT TIME, it was a wire from a underwire bra had worked its way into the inner parts of the machine.......another complaints I have is the agitator gets every single short or long tie or ribbon on clothing caught and twists and ties the whole load of clothes up into a big wad of clothing in knots. WHAT A PAIN this washer has been. Once I feel I got my moneys worth ... no more Kenmore for me, no more computers, no more agitator and NOT READY to risk mildew odors on the reportedly smelly front loads either.

Washer Woes
by: Anonymous

Thanks to all of you who have shared your unpleasant experience with this piece of junk called a washing machine. My machine registered an F-32 code and quit working. I called Sears and Kenmore, and, after much persistence on my part, was finally given the phone number for the "Lemon-Line" at Sears. It is 800-927-7836 I called yesterday, which was Sunday and spoke to a very helpful young woman who extended my Master Protection Agreement which had expired in March, 2010 until February 28, 2011, so that I wouldn't have to pay $139 for the repairman to come to my home. She also scheduled the repair service which took place this evening and my washing machine was repaired free of charge. She told me that if the repairman deemed the machine unfixable, that Sears would replace it.

By the way, the F-32 code meant there was a problem w/the pump. A wire to the pump had burned out and that's why my machine broke down. When the repairman lifted the top deck of the machine it was FULL of rust as was the undercarriage. I don't expect it to "live" another year, but at least it's working for now! Hope this info helps some of you who are having similar problems.

Free control board replacement from Sears
by: BruceR

I too have a 27086 Kenmore Oasis (s/n CT1870xxx) and have experienced several problems with it. First I had the F1 problem. I called the Sears Product Resolution number (NOT the regular service number!) at 800-847-9083 and they answered quickly and agreed that my unit was covered under a "product upgrade" - a polite term for recall. They sent a new control board and scheduled a tech to come install it. That was about a year ago. Now, I'm having the OL problem that pops up at the beginning of the spin cycle. Called the number again and they are sending another board and a tech to install it. Both calls were handled promptly and efficiently and there has been no cost to me for either repair, both out of warranty. I'm certainly not happy with the problems but I am quite satisfied with the way Sears is standing behind the product. The Oasis is the Sears branded version of the Whirlpool Cabrio so the design fault lies with Whirlpool. TIP: If you have the OL problem at the beginning of the spin cycle do the following to complete the load: Check to see that the load is evenly distributed in the basket. Then press Power then Rinse & Spin, set Spin Speed to High then press 2nd Rinse (light will go out) and Start. This will start a 14 minute cycle where there will be a few seconds of water followed by a spin cycle.

I can not believe that no one knows what the problem is. Every 3-6 mos. I am hoping that the maytags are better. I heard thru a third party that Kenmore and WHirlpool are the same. Anyone else out there with this awful problem. I feel locked into Sears now that I have paid for it. I do not know what to go with. I do alot of washing. I feel cheated. I just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and would encourage everyone on this list to do so immediately also. I don't know of any other way we can get help regarding this poor product! Here is the info. to do so:

I purchased a Sears Kenmore Elite Oasis Automatic Washer on 7/9/2007 for $699.99 plus $60 delivery fee plus tax $55.48 for a total of $815.47 from Sears Retail Dealer Store, KS 03351. The cycle on/off beep signal beeps continually when you run the washer throughout the entire load. If you leave the machine plugged in when the machine is off, the machine will start up on its own, start filling water suddenly, weird stuff like that. I called Sears Repair Service Center and they finally had a serviceman call me a week later. I asked him how much it would cost to fix and he told me that it would cost $121 just to come into my house. When I told him what the machine was doing and that I had read on the web that it was probably a bad control board and that it sounded like it usually was a $400 repair, he agreed and said it would cost between a total of $350-450 to repair. I told him I'd have to discuss this with my husband and canceled him for that day. I think this is an unfair repair cost for a product that is only 2 years old plus it was a $699.99 machine and costs $400 to replace a control board????? Sears needs to recall this product. The problem is that people NEED their washing machine (like I do) so I either need to get this fixed or go out and buy a new one. This is very unfair to the consumer to be treated like this. I do not think the retail store should be charged for this problem because this is a producer issue.

Very poor and slow service. When we called sears and explained the problem they should of had an idea of what the problem was when they came so they could aleast have a replacement part on the truck. Instead we waited a week for them to come out and tell us that we needed a new board, and that it would be 2 weeks for us to get the part. I also bought the very expensive Kenmore Elite Washer. It was the worst purchase that I have ever made. There has to be engineering problem with the wash tub for items to be able to work their way through to the water pump. My husband and I now fix the problem ourselves by taking the drain tube off of the water pump and removing whatever has worked it way into the pump. It is a pain in the ass but saves a lot of money on service calls. Now we are getting a 5d error. Does anyone know what this is and is it something that can be fixed without calling sears. I am to the point of taking my 800 dollar washer to the dump because that is where it belongs.

I also had the same issue with the F1 code. I called one of the numbers supplied here (1-800-659-7026). Armed with the info from the other comments, I knew that my model# and serial number should have been included. I called and the tech told me that I wasn't calling the proper number but knew that I was trying to find info on the replacement board. She looked it up, it qualified, ordered the part, and it arrived about 4 days later. I replaced it myself (about 15 minutes) and the washer now works again. They even automatically scheduled a tech to come out so I cancelled the appointment and I am now once again happy. Thanks for a helpful site!

I am an appliance repair tech. I have to laugh at people when they say they'll never buy a kenmore again and then say they'll buy maytag instead. Just so you know Kenmore doesn't make anything. In the case of this machine it is made by Whirlpool and those of you that are going to buy maytag now well guess what! Maytag is made by whirlpool too. Whirlpool is still the best brand of appliance but I do have to say that this model of machines have had their share of problems mostly with the control boards and secondly the tub bearings.

Worst Washer ever bought
by: Robert Pilz

This washer is definitely a lemon. It was supposed to save energy (HE) and water (HE) and save money. It strikes out on all 3. We had the F ode problem. They replaced the control pad and the brain. It had the coin damaged pump problem. I saved the old pump and will epoxy it and replace the good one if it fails. On light loads, it goes unbalanced. That means it kicks out a uL code and then tries to rebalance the load and starts the cycle in the middle. Then it uses more water and energy to do this over and over, then finally quits. You have to rearrange the load manually and cross your fingers. After about 45 minutes of manual intervention, it finally spins through the last 7 minutes. Sometimes, using low spin and delicate selection or wrinkle free selection works. You have to be patient and creative. This machine was supposed to be something that helps you not you help it. If they had used six springs instead of 4, the load would balance better by itself. But they cut corners on an expensive machine. I gambled on buying new technology too soon. I usually wait for the first users to suffer through the bugs. This time it is my turn.

Drum problems

We purchased our new set Kenmore washer and dryer in '06. We had a couple of F51 errors pop up last year just about the time our extended warranty was ready to expire. I got on line and saw all of the complaints. We immediately signed for another warranty! The F51 didn't reappear until this year. Well, low and behold! Last week I was doing the laundry and the F51 popped up again and I couldn't unlock the top. Finally got it open, re-distributed the load and reset the timer. Got through that load but on the spin cycle it got louder and louder! Called Sears the next day. Spent 15 minutes with a lady who kept telling me to go to the machine and reset it - until I finally got a word in to say I was at work! Repair man came this week, ran it for 2 minutes and said - the bearings are shot. Told him we also got the F51 code but he didn't say anything. I believe he said he needed to order a whole new inside to the machine. It will be sent directly to our house and he will be back to install it. Should I insist on a new mother board also? The warranty expires in October and don't know if we should pay another $265 or there abouts for another extension. Any comments? Oh - asked how much any of this was going to cost us, he checked our warranty and said - nothing at all! We'll see... Feel like another person who made the comment - we'll run it until it dies but NEVER buy another thing from Sears!

YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE WARRANTY WHEN SEARS CALLED. DURING THAT SAME PHONE CALL YOU MAY HAVE HEARD A HIGH PITCH SIGNAL (SOME CAN HEAR IT OTHERS CAN NOT) THAT WAS THE SIGNAL VIA ULTRASONIC WAVES TO THE WASHER TO FAIL WITHIN 90 DAYS OR SO. ALL MANUFACTURES HAVE JUST SUCH A WAY TO "FIX" IT TO FAIL.

THE SOUND WAVES WORK SO WELL THAT YOU MAY HAVE A NEIBOUR THAT WILL ALSO HAVE A WASHER FAIL IF IT IS A NEW ELECTRONIC CONTROLLED ONE.

We keep getting a Sd (5d) error code. The repair person said it was because we didn't use the proper detergent and we should only use half the recommended detergent since we have a water softener. We ran the "clean washer" 5-6 times with the washer cleaner tabs available from Sears. This has not helped. We typically use He detergent so I'm not sure what's going on. Our mother board was replaced under warranty about 2 yrs ago. Has anybody else gotten this code and if so what did you do about it? Sears is coming back out on Monday.

I have the Kenmore Elite Oasis HE model #27086 washer that I purchased on 8/29/06 with the matching dryer model #67086. On 4/10/10, I heard a crash in my basement, I thought the ceiling collapsed. It was the washer. It appears that the entire tub collapsed possibly during the spin cycle. The washer literally was in another place it moved that much!! the back panel blew off from the impact of the tub breaking. I was doing a normal size load of twin size sheets. I am furious with Sears/Kenmore giving me the runaround for 3 days now. At first they wanted 75.00 just to come to my house. Once at the house, they would then, determine if additional charges would apply. I asked for Kenmore's phone number directly, and was routed back to Sears and then told it would now be 139.00 and that would include service and labor without parts. Meanwhile the tub is under a 10 year warranty according to the manual. Why should I pay anything at all. I AM FURIOUS AND PLAN ON TAKING ACTION!!! BTW, my dryer was a problem, when we first got it. The NORMAL mode does not stop. I had a service man come twice and he gave me some nonsense story and insisted that I use the TIME/DRY mode instead. The NORMAL mode would not shut off. The clothes would be drying for 3 hours or more if you didnt watch it, it would just keep going and going...wasting electricity and your clothes would be toast. I grew tired of calling Sears and at that time, I accepted using the time/dry mode just to not deal with the hasssle, but the washer has me FURIOUS. If you are with me on this my email is patchadams218@aol.com and we have to do something about this raquet that Kenmore and Sears has going.

I have all Maytag appliances in my kitchen brand new since 2004. I had a problem once with my refrigerator and it was actually our fault, but Maytag came and repaired it for free with no questions asked. I will NEVER BUY A KENMORE APPLIANCE OR PURCHASE FROM SEARS AGAIN. Sears, you blew it.

Kenmore Elite Oasis HE washer #27086 junk
by: pissed off in NY

I purchased this washer/dryer set back in the fall of 2006....washer started flashing F1 error. Tech said $600 to fix...decided just to purchase new washer instead & buy extended warranty. Now we've had problems with coins getting in the pump...water all over the floor. Sears service tech fixed it the first time but said any additional times would be considered neglect/abuse of equipment since coins should not be in there. If you ask me, it's a poor design that allows the coins into the pump. Now what?? Do we purchase a pump ourselves & have my husband install? Or take a chance that we'll get an understanding service tech that will put it under the warranty again?? Ugh....never again will I purchase a Kenmore appliance! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Recall!
by: Anonymous

We purchased first machine April 06, then few months later we noticed water on the floor... so we called sears the tech came and said something was wrong with the splash guard but they can't fix it so they took that back and gave us a brand new one.. worked great for years now 2010 right before the extended warranty expired, sears called to see if we want to extend our soon to expire extended warranty, we said no thank you since the machine have been working great then after the warranty expired, it all the sudden we are gettin not just F1 but UL it sometimes have no problem works great then other times it'll stop about last 9 mins and it'll stop working. if we unplug for a while and plug it back in it'll start working.. I found information on line about possible recall so I called and found out that we have one of the affected machine so they'll ship us a new part and a tech will come to fix it. I'm hoping this will fix the washing machine to original working condition.

Neighboring Problem
by: Anonymous

I have a prior post so I will not repeat the problem I experienced. I have written letters to Sears Corp and only offered a service call. I don't want the machine and would not even accept the service since we would not even consider giving the machine to anyone...you know what I mean!

Our machine is sitting on the corner of our patio which is located at the south end of our house. Well about a week ago, my husband looks out of our bathroom window (which faces north) to see our next door neighbor has an idential machine sitting on his patio!!!

What are the chances two neighbors would have the SAME problem unless this is faulty equipment.

KENMORE = JUNK
by: Anonymous

I had to have my mother board replaced after 13 months. One month after the warranty expired. Sears will not do anything about this. This product is a lemon. The repair company that Sears uses is a big joke. They replaced my entire tub and many other things before a supervisor came to my home and said it was the mother or control board.

We as consumers need to do something about this. Sears is the most terrible consumer service company in the world.

This is ludicrous!!!!

This washer is a money pit for sears repair to make money
by: Anonymous

I also will never ever again by another Kenmore Product. Sears you have also lost my business. Currently I am listening to a washer beep non stop. This is horrible but at least FOR NOW it is washing. It stopped working every six months another $400.00 repair bill - NO MORE. Sears and Kenmore has lost my business for good. This washer is a piece of crap! Doesn't even deserve a star.

Worthless Machine - Recall
by: Tljngs

I am so glad I stumbled onto this site. After our experience with the Sears Kenmore Oasis, I decided to "search" the web to see what comments were being made.

We purchased the washer and dryer set in 2006 as an anniversary gift for ourselves. Typically, we do not invest that much money but liked the style and the idea of less water and more tub space so the investment seemed worth it.

within a year after the purchase, we had to call the serviceman because the code kept appearing and it would make a rubbing or grinding noise.

All along we compared the funtion of the new machine against the former machine's performance and kept thinking we were not using the proper detergent, water temperature, amount of clothing, etc. We kept making different changes, trying to make this washer perform.

About 3 months ago, the machine just stop working in the midst of a wash cycle. We ended up buying a much cheaper machine that performs so much better. We are amazed at how clean the clothes became with the "cheaper" machine.

Out of frustration, I wrote an extensive letter to Sears corporate office with details including the model, serial number and date of purchase. After about a month and a half, we received a call from a "Case Manager" who never mentioned a recall. We have no record of ever getting a letter.

Anyone pursuing any action as a result of this machine, PLEASE notify me at tljngs@yahoo.com. I am definitely not done!

Recall
by: Anonymous

Washer stopped working 1/24/10. No error codes, just power. Called the 800 number listed on the posts here on 1/25/10. Our washer model 110.27052600, serial number CT3070213 is among the recall. Person on the phone was helpful and ordered the contol board at no charge which will be shipped to our home. Service was scheduled for 2/5/10 between 8am-12noon at no charge.

Same Old Song With a twist
by: Anonymous

YUP!
Had the same F51 error mother board problem back in August. They recalled and replaced mother board. Sounds like end of the story. Only 5 months later that board produces same error. I call recall and they have "conveniently" updated the serial numbers and mine is no longer on the list. They gave me the number for Sears who said "all recalls have a 90 day warranty" (I am surprised it almost lasted 60 days longer) nothing they can do unless I want to spend another 3 to 4 hundred for repair.
-Every appliance my wife and I have are Sears. Never again. -That includes KMart since Sears bought them a few years ago. Shame on them. The service person even acted like they had not heard of this problem till I mentioned this website and the hundreds of other people who have been taken. Then they admitted to some problems but that they can not do anything about it. Neither can I; except never shop at Sears (or KMART) again. Really it is a shame. They are in financial troubles but this iconic american store has done it to themselves. RIP Sears. I think I'll get a Maytag from a locally owned appliance store.

Sears Canada and Kenmore Poor Service
by: Jim (Cornwall, ON)

RE: OASIS from Sears in Cornwall, Ontario.
I will not be back with my business, and will discourage others, unless Sears honours their promise. to fix my washer.

1. I called the Sears number given on the recall notice and was told that although my washer had the same symptoms that warranted the recall, my model and serial number weren't covered. I was referred to local Sears store Parts & Service.

2. Parts & Service said they only know what Whirlpool tells them and suggested calling Whirlpool.

3. I called Whirlpool and was referred back to Sears.

4. After several transfers and dropped calls a representative of Sears told me that if the problem was the same as the recalled washers the repair would be covered by Sears.

5. Sears sent a repairman who confirmed that the problem was the control board as in the recalled washers. He didn't have the part but said he'd have it in 2 days. He called 3 days later to say Sears would not honour their promise and that I'd have to call them.

6. I called Sears and was told they didn't know the person (whose name I gave them) that made the promise, nor did they have a record of the call. They promised to call back.

7. I went to the Sears store in Cornwall, Ontario and was able to find the name of the "unknown" employee in the database as well as a record of my call.

8. Sears later called (careful to not leave a name) leaving a message telling me the promise to fix the washer was a mistake and the part and repair would not be covered.

9. I have informed the local Sears sales people about this corporate representative who will make a bonus for sluffing me off, at their expense. Because although the salespeople are quite nice and helpful, Sears can not be considered a source of trustworthy product nor service and support.

10. I of course will not be back with my business, and will discourage others, unless Sears honours their promise.

11. If anyone else is doing something about this issue, feel free to write: dearteacher@cogeco.ca

Oasis Junk
by: Anonymous

I had my Kenmore Elite Oasis for about 18 months before the F1 errors started. I have had to reset the endless F1 errors. The washer is now 25 months old. The Sears warranty was for 12 months. I have tred to reseat all connections as described by many other people with the same problem with no success. Since my washer is not part of any recall. Sears wants to charge me for the repairs. I paid $700 for this lemon. I refuse to pay anymore. I will use it until it dies and never buy a Kenmore again.

water pump again
by: Anonymous

I have replaced the water pump on my Sears Oasis Canyon Capacity washer for the third time now. Each time is the same issue. Cracked pump housing and sheared impellers. When called Sears on this told to call the recall dept. When I talked to the tech was told machine was in recall and would ship the pump right away. A week later an Electrical Control Unit shows up. When I Call the recall dept back up I am now told there is no recall that the board is part of an upgrade. I told them I didnt request the board as I wasnt having any other problems. That I was told that the pump was being shipped. When they looked at the notes told me no notes existed. No matter who I talk to they don't want to address this design flaw. I am finding a lot of people with issues with the pump also.

Another "F1" victim
by: Anonymous

we own a Kenmore Elite Oasis machine that is a little over 2.5years old. It had the "F1" "motherboard problem".The 1-800-847-9083 number was some help,it just depends on the person on the other end. In the span of 4weeks I had 3 Sears technicians come to repair the machine.Tech #2 stated "all of the motherboards in these macines are bad" He called "sears central" and got authorization to replace the board at no charge unfortunately he knocked a wire loose which required a visit from the third technician. Bottom line although our washer was not one of those identified by Sears as having a "bad board" the repair was made free of charge thanks to technician #2.Sorry to say I will never set foot in a Sears store again because of the the way I was treated by the Sears customer service/complaint folks.

I just called up SEARS and they told me that the part will be ordered and they will come and replace it for me. Once I mentioned that I saw the recall information online, hundreds of comments, they did not ask for more.
Hopefully it will be the end of the F50 error (and the inconvenience) it caused to us.

I called the Sears repair number on Wednesday and no one was competant enough to help me and I got tranferred at least 6 times, becuase no one seemed to know about the recall. I called 800-847-9083 and the lady was very helpful. She asked for the Name and model number, ordered the part, and I have the appointment scheduled for July 24th. She said the part would be here in 5 to 7 business days, so hopfeully this is true! Thank you for putting this number on here, becasue otherwise I would have shelled out money to fix the machine.

I personally believe Sears should go back to manufactor they got these lemons from and have them replace all the lemons with a good working washer.

Sears Oasis Washing Machine
by: Sue Fouch, Michigan

I purchased my Oasis washing machine August of 2007. Within the last month the machine stops after the wash cycle and a signal comes up on the board saying OL. I am not overloading my machine. I went directly to Sears and all they can say is to buy an extended warranty from them and that they will come out and see what the problem is. They are not apologetic and act as if they never heard of anyone having problems with the Oasis machine. I will never buy purchase another Sears product again. This machine cost me over $700 and has not lasted even two years. I am going to get in touch with Better Business Bureau and Consumers Report. Maybe other people won't make the mistake of buying from Sears as my husband and I did.

My machine temp. controls are all out of wack going from cold, to hot, to warm and my poor pipes are banging so loudly from the water change.

I too received an "upgrade" letter from SEARS and come to find out my washer is amonst the ones that require a upgrade. I called to set up an appointment for the upgrade and was told that since there was a overwhelming response to the upgrade that they were temporarily out of the replacement part. I was then told that they would contact me as soon as they became available. I called them 5/6/09 so I will see how long it will take for the new control device to come in. My washer just start making banging noises in spin cycle I think they better hurry!!

Kenmore Elite Logic Board...
by: Ricardo

A follow up to my 4 Aug post. The part (logic board) arrived two weeks ago. The repairman was here on Tuesday (21 Aug). The install took about 20 minutes (you don't have to move the machine; control panel comes off). This was a NO COST fix.

This was done by Sears OUTSIDE of warranty from a letter sent to owners of certain machines. Please see my post of 4 Aug 09 for details. Machine worked well after two loads. Keeping my fingers crossed.

If you need a two-year extension of your warranty, they will sell you one if you persist and insist for about $130 for TWO years.

I have purchased a set of Kenmore Oasis Elite washer and dryer on June 06, 2006. But now, the washer stopped spinning, water flooded on the floor, and message error displayed F 50 continuously. This is a terrible product to be sold on the market by Sears;Executives at Sears should be ashamed for not taking any responsibilities to recall its product voluntarily. I urge prospective buyers to look at other name brands.

Bought this washer in 2007 an thought it would be a good machine to last a long time an shouldn't needed extended warrenty an within 2 months water pump broke. Was Told by repairman that on Cheaper machines they put a better water pump on it with a screen in case of coins an on the kenmore they put the cheaper made plastic parts pump on it so coins break the pump parts if they are missed. So now we are on our second pump an it will just keep happening. I plan on compaining ALOT. I feel as tho there should be a recall an better pieces put on pump. If you pay $999 for a washer it should last a LONG time. Frustrated!

Today (4/3/09) I got a letter from Sears. They will replace the electronic control board on my 110.2708 top loader (you know, the F-51 business) for FREE, in warranty or not. Serial #s for the Bad Board begin: CS48 - CS52 or CT01-CT49. Call Sears at 800-847-9083. The voices of all of us have finally been heard! There is a class action attorney firm in San Francisco looking into a legal remedy.
