Kenmore Elite Calypso

I bought my calypso and matching dryer 6 years ago. It is special "low energy, water saving" and I wanted to be efficient. Anyway, we have spent a lot of money on repairs, around $300 so far. Now it is broken again.

I do around 3 loads of laundry a week, my kids are not sporty, and the ballet garments get hand washed, so there is not "heavy duty" washing. I decided not to call sears again, since the total repair costs might as well just buy something else.

Too high tech for its own good is my guess. Keep it simple next time.

Do not buy this product .....

My Grammy bought my Kenmore Elite Calypso washer and gas dryer for me as a house warming gift in 2003. We enjoyed it for years. Then the fight began with Sears. I wish they would admit that this model was just a dud !!! Here it is 2013 and I need to get it out of my house. This is the worse product Sears ever made. Actually I will never purchase appliances from Sears unless they are another brand name. Sears and Roebuck and company is the absolute worst !!!!!!!!

ob? ld? sl? If you own this model you probably know what I'm talking about. Be ready for change in the drain line. You might be thinking, "I don't leave change in my pockets." Well you better not or you're going to need your tool kit. Oh yeah, Get a metal hanger while you're at it. Don't worry, you'll do it again too. maybe this time the pump will fail. At this point you think, "No sweat, I've done this before." Nope! the gear on the pump motor strips the plastic insert. Give up yet? Not me, I'm a FN cheap moron.. Look, washers aren't cheap. I know. Sometimes you just keep doing what you have to to make things work though. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this model. If you already have one I'm sorry, I do too. Just be glad you get to replace the floor when you finally do give up on it.

Leary of the "Latest High Tech product"

I purchased my Kenmore washer and a Kenmore Calypso washer in 2005 and the unit doesn't work (no lighting, I assume the motherboard is fried). Until now, I had no problems with the washer, no maintenance performed. I bought these as a set and the lower end Kenmore dryer was a lemon, the motherboard went out and it baffled me why they abandoned dials and knobs for push button electronics which are expensive to repair and less reliable, in my opinion.

I suspect the repair cost will be $200 - $250 and a good new one can be had for $500, so I will probably buy new. I am looking up repair cost now.

I do not know what you whiners are whinning about. I have had my Calypso for 7+ years and finally had to replace it because there are limited parts for it now. But up until now, I have not had to put a dime into it.

it ain tall bad

it's wounderfull to see so many negitive comments about this calipso sets. however those that paid for repairs were a hole lot ignorant. the service agreement is one of the best things that sears came out with. oh sure my unit was replaced and yes it was/is ahead of its time. however i've had mine for over 12 years and still runs great as long as you HE detergents just like the manual says, and you maintain it with the service agreements annual visit. it does what it's supposed to do and even in some of the nations hardest well waters. so quit whinning and do what the manual says and you'll not have near the problems you are having.

It's terrible. Everything comes out of the washer twisted tightly and it gets off balance very easily.

Calypso Calapso

When I originally purchased the washing machine it worked really well, then after about a year I noticed sediment on clothes after the wash cycle. Was told to purchase the affresh washing machine cleaner, this did not fix the problem. Also noticed small holes appearing in clothes that were only washed once or twice. Now the timer/cycle or something keeps stalling it takes 4 hours to run a 40 minute cycle and the clothes still smell dirty and have this awful sediment on them. Yuck!! A Sears repairman who came to do service on my dryer is actually the one who came up with the name Calypso Calapso he said he hates the washers and have sooooo many calls to repair them, he suggested I put my money towards a new machine vs repairing this one. I have it with this washer: I have replace the pump 2 times. and now it lets small clothing into the motor area then down into the pump area. Ive payed for repairs that total close to the coast of the washer!!!!

DONT BUY KENMORE PRODUCTS FROM SEARS THEY ARE A PIECE OF GARBAGE I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE WASHER SINCE WE BOUGHT IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED OVER 15 TO 20 TIMES, ALMOST EVERY PART HAS BEEN REPLACED ON IT. I HAVE NOT HAD A WASHER FOR 3 WEEKS I BEEN GOING TO THE LAUNDERMAT BECAUSE SEARS WAS TO COME OUT 1 WEEK I CALLED TO SEE WHERE THEY WERE THEY CHANGED THE DATE TO A WEEK LATER, WHEN THEY COME THEY COULD NOT FIX IT HAD TO ORDER A PART WILL TAKE ANOTHER WEEK THAT WILL BE 4 WEEKS WITH NO WASHER MACHINE. NEED TO BUY A NEW ONE FROM LOWES OR HOME DEPOT..

Sears owes us all a refund

If you were, like I was, suckered into buying this water efficient machine then jump on the bandwagon and demand Sears give a refund on these machines.

Kenmore's are decent machines but the Calypso is the "poor bastard baby" that Sears wants us to hopefully forget ever happened.

If you've tried to repair or if you had it repaired everyone dreads working on these machines and they are expensive.

Sear, do the right thing and give us our money back.
