Kenmore 800 VERY Disappointed too
by: Tryon S in Lawrenceville, GA

I have purchased this kenmore 800 washer from Sears in September of 2010 because our previous kenmore served us well for 18 years. I was so pleased with the performance of my previous kenmore i decided not to research comments and reviews about it, and also decided NOT to purchase $70 dollar/ 3year warranty (that would of add more salt to my injury). Few days ago, right before Christmas, this machine decides not to spin anymore. I am a handy person, so with the help of very informative Youtube DIY's i proceeded to solve the problem myself. Since parts were readily available in my area , i started with the first of the four suggested problems. When i checked the coupler, no damage found. Second, i went for the lid switch. Because i tried to force the switch back in with the lid closed, i broke the plastic clip that holds the switch in its place, so i purchased a new switch. Third i checked for any damage in the clutch area. No damage was found. The last suggested part was to check/replace the gearbox. Since parts stores/factory does not provide kits to fix the inside of the gearbox, i had to spend $ 210 dollars (my christmas gift savings) to replace this part. I replaced this part expecting to finally have this issue resolved. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT, it does the same thing as if nothing has been done. I will NEVER BUY KENMORE again.

I bought a Kenmore 800 and recommend you do not.
We have had it less than 2 years and it is broke and went online to find replacement drain pump for it and they no longer make it and the person I was chatting said sorry and that was all they had to offer.
When I bought it assured me that it was a popular model and would last for a long time.

makes me want to cry
by: Michelle

I came upon this page looking for a cheap way to DIY balance my Kenmore 800. Much to my surprise, I am not the only one with this issue. I've already had a repairman out to the house once for this machine, but it was in warranty then. Now I'd have to pay, this machine is about 2 1/2 years old. I hate that they act surprised to hear about this problem and imply that I have done something to cause the problem when clearly there is an issue with this machine. I wish I had reviewed comments before getting this. I cannot afford to have someone out to fix this now. So I guess my choices are deal with the banging violence of the spin cycle or go to a laundrymat. Crazy.

Kenmore / Ken less
by: Larry

I wish I had something to add. You are all right on point. Definitely a piece of s&&&. Will never buy another. Cost me 240.00 to fix. Not fixed yet, waiting on a part (sensor) that the repairman should have had. Won't be fixed until January 4th. Kenmore should recall these washers and replace them. Mine was purchased in 2009. It is a kenmore 800. Never again.

We have had many repairs to ours and now the matching dryer has just given up so we are starting over. I don't think we made it much passed the first year before we had to start the repairs...new motors..new timers..more belts than I can count and more. They just don't make them like they used to. I gave away the set my mother had that worked like magic even after ten years, and I wish I had them instead of these.

Truly a Lemon
by: Anonymous

I have always bought my washing machines from Sears and usually they would last 8-10 years. I bought this machine only 2 years ago and it started making this loud banging noise at the end of each cycle. I called and it took the repairman one week to come out. Much to my surprise, he said it would cost almost $500 to repair. I was horrified. This is totally unacceptable for a machine to last only 2 years. I am really really disappointed in this Sears product. They should take it off the market. I will definitely do more research on Sears' products from now on. They just don't make things like they used to.

Lint NIGHTMARE
by: Cindy

I have owned the Kenmore 800 series set for several years now. I have ALWAYS had trouble with the load off balance, you know....The one they say will correct itself? It doesnt. I have had clothes at the end of the cycle still be dripping wet. For the last several months, I have had to deal with the lint NIGHTMARE. EVERY time I wash a load of dark clothes, they are totally coated in lint at the end of the cycle. I rewash...Same thing. It takes several washing cycles to finally get most of it off. It is so very frustrating when you pay this much for a machine, and it does this!!
Called today to ask if it has a lint filter that I am supposed to be cleaning? Or what.... No, it doesnt. It has one that is supposed to flush itself out and you never have to do anything with it. Well....apparently THAT part doesnt work either.
Kenmore USED to be my "go-to" brand for all appliances....even down to my vacuum cleaner. Well, not anymore. I am DONE with Kenmore. Their quality is just not up to par. So long Kenmore!

Purchase in 6/2009. Use only during the summer months at our beach house and already having problems. After closing the lid water and agitator starts at the same time. After completing its normal cycle the cloths are dripping wet. The repairman said the timer was bad. I replace the timer myself with a new one and still have the same problem. Model #110.29822800. Any suggestions?

Run For the Hills!! Piece of junk!
by: Anonymous

My husband and I bought the kenmore 800 load sensing washing machine. What a piece of junk! It's loud, becomes unbalanced a lot, and the load sensing feature is a joke. The water doesn't even cover the clothes. We called the 1-800 number because the washing machine was agitating before the water filled up. They told us to unplug it, and then run a cycle through without clothes. So we did that in Dec 2011. It seemed to work then, now it's doing the same thing and of course the waranty has just run out.I wonder how much this is going to cost??

How I got my Kenmore model 800 to wash clothes.
by: Anonymous

Our Sears model 800 washing machine was ok for about 6 months, water level was always a bit low in my opinion but seemed to be ok if clothes were not heavily soiled. Sometimes a load would come out of the washer with soap suds on them. Then after 6 months it started acting up. It started agitating the clothes right away when first turned on even before any water was in the tub. Then the clothes came out soaked like the machine forgot to spin them. I replaced the water level sensor after doing some research on the web, found a part with a higher version letter. Maybe Sears fixed the problem with this water level sensor. I was wrong, the new sensor was installed and it ran ok for a few months and then had the same problems as before. I can run it througha cycle without lifting the lid and sometimes it will operate normally. This wastes water electricity and time. So much for energy effeciency. The machine will not turn off if the clothes are out of balance. I then need to lift the lid to readjust the clothes. In desperation I popped open the console with a butter knife and disabled the lid switch by removing it from its mounting hole. It has been ok so far I can look inside and monitor the water level and not have the sensor fill the tub to the top anymore. Still not enough water in the tub to wash clothes properly so I just pour a gallon or so in and all is well. I am learning to live with my Sears model 800 washing machine. It will do the job, just needed a few hacks. All is well again. I did not buy the extended warranty either. Probably would not have helped this machine s problems anyway.

RUN from this machine
by: Lee

Make a long story short, my Mom purchase this model Nov 2010, March it started giving her problems; wouldn't spin dry, problem intermitent, resetting to the spin cycle and manually stopping when you hear it filling up with water again, takes care of it. Next time it works fine. After 3 service calls, 3 components changed (last being right before year warrenty expire), so far so good.

I bought the same in Jan 2011, I started having same problems but restarting or setting sovles the problem until next time. Call Customer service, told I'm not loading washer properly, excuse me...I'm 60yrs old, I know how to load & wash. Next time I'm told to shut off the breaker or unplug for 2 - 3 minutes, resetting the machine. Ok, my year warrenty ends on the 18th, machine doing it and nothing resets it so I got a call in, Tech expected tomorrow but heres the "icing on the cake"...

I bought the matchin dryer, again intermitent, it makes a noise (metal scraping) during the cycle. Opening the dryer door for a count of 10, close and start, sound goes away. Tech came out, took machine apart, nothing. After a few weeks of use, the sound is back and louder! Stopping it at the dial doesn't work, must open the door...

DO NOT BUY FROM SEARS! RUN from their brand...
Here in Hilo, HI we have no other appliance store, ahhh. Home Depot is here but they don't have the appliance availability like in the Mainland. We must drive to the other side of the Island (Kona), there's a Lowes there

We purchase in good faith but AFTER the warrenty we continue to have problems, ever think it's so they can sell more EXTENDED WARRENTY?

Bring back our Country's out sourced work & manufacturing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Walking Washer
by: Anonymous

My family has always been a kenmore brand supporter and Sears has always been good to us until my mother purchased her Kenmore 800 washer. Right away we had a problem with the washer making loud noises and walking when spinning. It did not matter how many times we readjust the clothes it always did this on a large load. We even try not to put as many clothes in and still no luck. Sears sent a repair man twice out to us then replaced it with a new one. Same problem began just after the 90 days. Now we are stuck and have purchased pads to try and help. Still walking. If Sears wanted to keep there quality name they definitely should recall these washers just to save face with their customers. Unfortunately this has put a bad taste on the brand name. I guess I will go back to GE. Too bad.

I purchased this machine 18 months ago and hate it. The water saving feature is terrible, can't open the lid once it has started. Can't go from soak to wash without spinning the water out. Now the paint is peeling off the underside of the lid and top of tub area. I wrote Sears headquarters about the problem and we played phone tag for two weeks and I never spoke with them. I am so disappointed with this machine and the Sears customer service.

How to make a felt hat using your Kenmore 800
by: Lint-Clogged in CO

I laughed my head off reading the posts about the Kenmore 800 washer! It would be far funnier if my emotional outpouring wasn’t the histrionics of another unfortunate owner of said machine.

I’d like to tell the world that these Kenmore 800 owners aren’t crazy; my machine has exhibited virtually all of the problems listed in these posts: the characteristic loud banging, mysterious redistribution of clothing causing the machine to clang and shuffle, ridiculously low water levels that leave clothing filthy at best and damaged/destroyed at worst, the never-ending lint-fest, and the infamous A&E “customer service”. I have devised work-arounds for most of the issues: sticking close to the washer when it runs to reorient clothing and make sure the banging is just “normal” banging, running the machine exclusively on the “bulky” setting which allows a higher water level, lint-brushing clothing after it comes out of the dryer, and dumping A&E for a reliable local repair service.

That being said, I have a new problem to add to the “laundry list” of Kenmore 800 issues. Our washer started making a high-pitched whining sound during the spin cycle and when I lifted the lid to check on this “out of the ordinary” bizarre sound, I found dirty water sprayed all over the inside of the upper part of the washer tub and down onto my sheets. When my local guy came to fix my Kenmore 800, he found clumps of lint all over the inside of the plastic liner tub and a huge wad of compressed lint (that was literally felted) jammed down in the space where the tub spins on its axel. He said the whining sound was due to the tub rubbing on the lint wad, and I can only assume that the dirty water on my sheets resulted from the globs of lint in the upper part of the plastic tub back-washing through the holes. It was a disgusting mess!

Although I have been a loyal Sears/Kenmore customer for over 25 years, between the lousy performance of the Kenmore 800 and the pathetic “service” of A&E, they have completely lost my respect/confidence. In the future, I’ll purchase my appliances elsewhere.

This washer has been nothing but trouble since we bought it. The machine will not fill with enough water to cover the laundry. The wash cycles get out of sync constantly. I.E. starting before filling with water and draining before the cycle is complete. We have had service techs over several times. They reset whatever they reset and the machines works ok for a week or so. then back to the same old thing. I'm not sure if they still sell this model, but if they do. Do Not Buy.

Extremely Disappointed
by: Anonymous

Have been very happy with Kenmore washers for years, but have hated this model since day one (which was a year ago).
1. Can't control water level - tub will totally fill with water if I open lid to add anything. Have wasted incredible amounts of water and money on this "cost-savings" feature.
2. Not enough water in tub to clean clothes if I allow auto sensor to determine water level.
3. Won't operate with lid open - supposedly a safety feature, but give me the option.
4. Rinse cycle for normal wash lasts only 45 seconds (after taking 5 minutes to fill with water) - more waste of water and money; plus can't possibly rinse out the soap in less than one minute.
5. Delicate wash setting not delicate - it's regular agitation but less minutes than normal wash setting.
6. Normal wash setting does not allow 100% hot water when wanting only hot water.
7. None of the wash settings will spin dry the clothing well at end of wash cycle.
Should have trusted my instincts when questioning the salesman about the load-sensing feature at the time of purchase; more importantly, wish salesman had provided honest answers!

Had the machine 2 years and major failure. Agitator comes on with no water, sound of a trashed bearing and leaking from front.

Bit the bullet and purchased a new machine with single agitator and manual clickety-click controls.

Driver commented "We pick-up more new machines than old"

If we are serious about going green appliances should be made to last. The 800 is junk.

I have a shirt that I have had for years, had a old kenmore, and then a old G.E. no lint, they worked great, no problems. The second week all my cloths, and towels have lint balls all over them. I am afraid to wash my good cloths. I will never by a Kenmore again!!!!! My next will be back to a G.E.. Less than 2 years old, our washer stopped filling and won't rinse. After some research online, I decided to try the load sensor.I found for 49.99 plus 12.95 for expedited shipping. It should be here tomorrow. Wish me luck. And yes I will agree with a couple of the previous posts, it shifts incredibly loudly and has been found dancing across the basement a time or two. Kenmore 800 sucks
by: JDub

This washer is a horrible embarrassment to Sears and Kenmore. I hate that you have to spend so much money for a washer and the sales people basically coerce you into buying the protection plan (which I did not buy). Now, apparently the auto load sensor needs replaced because I opened the lid during the beginning of the wash cycle to add a sock (*gasp*). So ridiculous!
My experience with the repair people is they come whenever they damn well please and you have to set aside a whole day to wait on them. When the set was delivered - Sears delivery guys - or who ever they outsource to - bring the wrong dryer and insist you are the one who made the mistake. Long gone are the days where customers mean something to a company and they stand behind their products. So, now I have the task of finding my own part number for the auto sensing whatever and installing it myself.

Water coming out at the bottom of the machine
by: Anonymous

I have my Kenmore 800 working perfectly. But after 4 years of using it without any problem I turn on the machine and went up stair. After an hour I went down to check only to find out that my floor was flooded with water. I drained the remaining water in the washer and tried to start it again only to find out that while filling water, water is also coming out at the bottom of the washer. I check all the hose and there's nothing wrong with it.It is just that water is coming out at the bottom of the machine.
I contacted Sears and they told me that just for their repairman to come and check the machine I have to pay $130.00 plus to buy the parts needed to repair the defect. I decided to replace the washer with a new machine. I can not afford to spent $130.00 for the repairman and more dollar on the defective parts.

USELESS WASHER
by: Anonymous

The Kenmore 800 series washer is the worst washer we have EVER had! We have had Kenmore washers before and they would last at least 10 years or more with hardly no trouble, but not this one! We purchased this in June 2009 and have had NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH IT! First it would only allow cold water to come in and after two months trying to get a repair man from A & E Warranty Service, a company thru Sears for warranty repair, to solve the problem, they could not figure out the correct part to solve the problem. So after talking to a HIGHER UP General Manager thru Sears they exchanged the washer with another Kenmore 800 Series Washer. Now, as of January 2011, the next problem with the washer is the water won't fill up and would only agitate. So we called Sears Repair and one week later they had a technician from A&E Warranty Repair, (very big joke of a warranty service company!) come out. Well the washer was working off and on BEFORE this technician came out, and he got the water coming in (supposedly) and ordered a new part to come in this next week, and left after we paid for the service call and part price. We go to wash a load of clothes afterwards and NOTHING! Now the washer is not even filling up with any water OR not agitating. It only goes thru the SPIN cycle!

This technician stated we would be good until the part came so we took it for granted he actually KNEW what he was doing, and had left the washer at least USEABLE and instead he left us with a completely USELESS WASHER!!

But took our $200 for a repair on the washer that does not even work at all!! We would not recommend this washer AT ALL and would not recommend buying anything with a warranty thru Sears as this A & E company is the biggest joke of an appliance repair (warranty) center that ever existed! Our advice DO NOT BUY A KENMORE 800 SERIES WASHER!!!!

Do not buy! Horrible experience. This washing machine is the worst! I bought a kenmore believing it would be quality, but this machine is junk! Now I am discovering that everyone seems to have simular problems. Auto load sensor is a joke, No water for wash is a joke too!
Don't you think they should do something about it! Sears is not standing by their product. Unfortunately I did not buy the extended warranty after 1 year...thinking I would just get rid of it instead of having it fixed. Seems a little ridiculous to buy a %500.00 washer and end up paying the same amount in warranties. But I guess that is why they have their own Sears repair, so they make all the money! I'm calling 7 on your side Sears! They can't keep selling products that have the same problem and get away with it.

Do Not Purchase This Product
by: Lorrie

Run the other direction when considering the Kenmore 800 Washer!
After 8 months of stained clothes, detergent residue and torn clothes, I'VE HAD ENOUGH of my Sear's Kenmore 800 top loading washer.
There is no water level choices (saleswoman said it had a sensor) after 5 months I started monitoring the fill cycle and relized that the water level would only go half way up the level of clothes in the machine AND because I lifted the lid it would re-add more water just like it was a new load. When I called Sears they said the water level was really at the level for best washing and would save money in the long term.
It is time for Sears to get online and look at all the awful, sad and disapointed customer reviews. Admit you put out crap and make it right!!
Do Not Purchase This Product the money savings will cost you more in the end.

Walking Washing Machine
by: Peter

Unless you get a kick out of your machine wandering around the laundry room, don't buy this one. We've leveled it, the repair man has leveled it, and it still shakes like crazy. Small loads or large loads do not make a difference.

Initially it was fine, but somewhat noisy. You can get used to that. After six or seven months, it started to shake during spin cycles. I did not purchase an extended warranty, and was told by Sears (800-4my-home) that the repair man would have to come out 4 times before they would put me in touch with Customer Care. Evidently customer care is in charge of replacement.

Don't know what is going to happen, but I am afraid that the service charges from the repair visits are just going to eat my dough. And then I will still have a bad machine that I will have to replace anyway.

Forget about the load sensing design and water/energy saving features and buy a regular machine that you can adjust yourself. Nightmare!

KENMORE 800 WASHER
by: Maryland Consumer

This washing machine is the worst one I have every owned. It is terribly noisy. It makes loud bangs and walks across the floor (even though we make sure it is loaded evenly).
I had to have a repair man out because it stopped working after several months. He said it blew a fuse because I opened the door after the wash cycle began. Who hasn't added another piece to washing laundry or waited until the soap was absorbed by the water to add clothes in order to prevent white powder in the colored clothes?

Awful. Awful. Awful.
Kenmore has been a great maker of washing machines
in the past, but was this some experiment gone wrong?

Works pretty well.
by: Anonymous

I have read all of the mostly negagive comments about the 800. In all honesty I have to say it
seems to be doing a good job for my family. We purchased in Feb 2010 and have no issues with it. I have to say it has been a good investment so far.

800 Series Poor engineering
by: David Meshirer

The 800 has been full of problems. It has been noisy. The clothes have to be rinsed by hand. The automatic water level is so low that the agitator squeaks. Have to rinse twice to get soap out. Sometimes it starts to agitate without filling with water. Sometimes it will not spin. Sometimes it only agitates. Repair man states it is fine. It only works when the repairman is called. It is not Sears fault. All of my previous kenmores worked great. The automatic water sensor, cheap timer, and chip have destroyed the Kenmore name. Buy the 500 series; no bells, no whistles, a machine you can still control. The timers have the same approval as Congress. A new timer is $59.00. Install it yourself. I am smart enough to adjust the water level manually. Do not need the Government controlling the water level on washers.

Big machine....keeps repair tech. working.
by: Anonymous

This is a huge washer, but......6 months into using machine, the clothes started coming out very wet. Spin cycle acting up. Great. Called SEARS and they could not find me on there purchase list. They have no record of me buying this ? Great. My previous washers were Amana and Maytag and the deal for this large machine was too good. I'm starting to regret it.

Worst washer ever
by: L Champion

This washer was delivered May 26 working properly. I did not like the fact it wouldn't run if the lid was open but figured I'd just live with it.

A month ago it stopped filling. The cold water would not fill but switching it to hot it would work--except it wouldn't rinse and there's no way to tell it to rinse hot.

After making sure our water line was not clogged and working, I called Sears and spent 15 minutes trying to make someone who spoke little English understand we have two homes and the washer was not physically located at our billing address. Over and over he kept repeating the wrong address and saying he would schedule the repair. He couldn't figure it out, gave up and switched me over to someone who spoke better English. That helped, but it was going to take three weeks wait for a warranty service call.

A day later the washer started working but it stopped again a couple days ago. We plan on returning it to Sears and switching it for another model. Hopefully we won't have a problem since a Sears associate has already said it's because of the soap I use. If that's true, then why would it fill (but not rinse) on hot?

After reading all these negative reviews I think Sears should recall them all and try again.

worst machine I ever owned
by: Anonymous

from the beginning it sounded like a thrashing machine when washing ,pumping out the water and spinning. The plastic balance pieces wore out in no time so it would not spin without dancing all over the floor. After the first time they replaced the little plastic pieces it has never spinned right. Now sears is trying to say it is because of the laminate floorthat it dances all over the floor and sounds like a hammer is knocking inside. Interesting though it did not dance all over at first until they replaced the little plastic pieces that the repairman said wears out if you wash a lot. Helloooooooooo do we buy our washing machines to look at? I am thoroughly disgusted with this machine as well as Sears repair because they now say i have a weak floor which they are referring to my laminate flooring and they are telling me to put a piece of plywood under the washer.I plan to do this but I do not like the idea of a piece of plywood under my washer. If this does not resolve the problem they will definitely hear back from me and it will not be pretty.I had purchased the extended warranty but for what, when they tell me my floor is weak (locking laminate)and to use a piece of plywood.Lets face it . It is a poor excuse for a washer. I have bought many Sears washers and this may be my last kenmore. I have wished many times I had not given my old one away that is still working great.

Aggravation!
by: Anonymous

This machine has been a nightmare since we purchased it. It doesn't do anything as expected! It's not 2 years old and already we've had a "lid switch" replaced. My most recent complaint is it will fill with water and sit until you think it has completed its cycle and you find it has done nothing!!! Doesn't wash, drain, spin or anything. I think it forgot it is a WASHING MACHINE! If they still sell these things, DO NOT PURCHASE. I have been frustrated since day one! Should have returned it. Aggravation to the max!!

I have owned this machine for 17 months. It quit spinning after 14 months. We replaced the clutch assembly and am now told that it's the transmission. Did not purchase extended warranty (big mistake). Will never purchase another Kenmore. Just bought a Maytag, I have my fingers crossed.

Disappointed
by: Anonymous

For 9 months our Kenmore 800 worked OK. The clothers were reasonably clean. I always used an extra cycle. water sensor stopped working today . Today on load # 1 it filled but never started agitating. Somehow I got it going. On load #2 it worked OK until the rinse cycle and then never stopped filling, flooding the garage where we keep it. We have an extended warranty (which I see we will need). The service desk said the earliest a repair person could come is a week.

Bad Auto water sensor
by: Schererville, IN

I have had Kenmore washer and dryers for 30 years and never been disappointed until the 800 auto water sensor maching came into my home. The washer never fills up with enough water. Very disappointed to find out I need to stand by with every load to reopen the lid so more water can fill into the machine. Without the proper amount of water, no matter how small the load, the soap doesn't rinse out. I am so sorry I didn't go with the Maytag. RUN away from this maching and pick something else.

800 Series is a lemon
by: Anonymous in Cincinnati

This is the worst washer I have had in over 30 years. The water sensor broke in the first month. Sears did replace the sensor but it took 3 weeks.
You can not add anything once you close the lid, otherwise it doesn't know "how much you've added" acording to the repairman and it fills to the top every time. It does NOT get the clothes clean. Once I added a towel that was folded and it came out at the end of the regular cycle still folded with all of the dirt folded inside it.
I have to use the extended cycle with extra detergent and extra rinse cycle all the time just to get the clothes half-way clean.
What an energy waste.
It's the worst design I've ever seen.

Defective water sensor
by: Frustrated!!

My brand new Kenmore 800 lasted three weeks. Washer would not fill with water. Store replaced it with a brand new 800. Three weeks to the date after receiving the replacement, it quit. Would not fill with water. Found out this model has a history of defective water sensors. Store did not offer to replace second defective washer. Suggested calling repairman. Called and was told the repairs could not be done for a full week. Currently waiting for the repairman to arrive so I could wash the 6 loads of laundry that are waiting. Do not recommend this machine!

kenmore lasts
by: Jane Sleep

In 1968, I bought a suds saver washing machine and a gas dryer under the Kenmore brand. In the 42 years since that purchase, I have continually used both appliances, and they still work today. During that time, I raised 6 children, and used the machines for 8 loads every 2 days. My children have all left home now, and most of them are on their 3rd replacement appliances while mom's still keeps the clothes clean. If you would like to use this experience in your product promotion, I would be happy to participate.

can't put item in washer after it starts
by: Anonymous

We bought the Kenmore 800 washer and dryer thinking they were the top of the line from the other Kenmore appliances; while the washer has a large capacity that works well with bulky items, it doesn't have a water lever knob. If you happen to forget a piece of clothing after starting the cycle, you cannot open the lid to deposit it as the water resets itself and continues to fill the machine. This is a waste of water when you have a small load. The dryer works perfectly, but I would suggest not buying the washer.

very noisy
by: Martha Ore

I purchased my kenmore 800 February 2009. I had to have it repaired August 2009 and it took 10 days get it repaired. I had to go to a laudromat! Even though they knew the sensor was a problem, they ordered the wrong part before looking at the machine and then had to order the correct one.

The repairman recommended that I buy an extended warantee because they knew there would be problems with this model. I really don't think customers should be guinea pigs for new products.

I have never had any machine make as much noise during spin cycle, even though I have worked very hard to level it, and I have never had such a knot of clothing, particularly sheets.

I will not purchase another Kenmore washer.

Poor machine
by: Anonymous

This is the worst machine I've ever owned and I've had Kenmore's for many years. The sensor for estimating the water level went out after 6 months and the only way I could get enough was to open the lid to add more. This meant it filled completely and the water saving feature went out the window. It's a very noisy machine and jumps all over the place when the clothes get unlevel, and water spashes out through the lid when filling. I'd return it if it were an option.

Not filling with water properly
by: Mena

It saves 49% on your water bill, because it hardly adds any water to the load. To get the water level to cover the clothes you need to open the lid 5 minutes after the cycle starts, then close the lid and it will fill with water.

It still seems to clean the clothes, but with three sons I would like to make sure that the items are fully washed, not mostly washed.

Small opening to tub is a problem
by: Cindy

This machine is okay. ALthough I am waiting on Sears to come back and get it. I have had it two weeks and althoughit cleans and functions fine....... my issue is the tub. The size is plenty large but getting to it is the problem. The opening at the top is very skinny. IT is exactly 4.5inches from the center agitator to the rim of the tub. I can't imagine why in the world they designed it to have a wide lip/rim when the tub is so large. Anyway, while removing clothes I constantly am banging my arm against the agitator or the rim. Eeerrrgghhhh. Even my 12 year old daughter with little child arms bangs hers too. For this reason alone I'm trading it back in for a GE model. They all have wide mouth openings.

Unhappy owner
by: Anonymous

My Sears Kenmore 800 arrived a week ago. I needed a top loading machine to replace my old Maytag workhorse, and chose this model because of its large capacity.

The Auto Load Sensor may claim to be a water saving feature, but it barely provides enough liquid to get dirty clothes clean. I'm using a second rinse more often than ever, making this machine an energy waster.

And twice in the past week towels, which were properly loaded at the start, shifted and caused the machine to became unbalanced. The Maytag would stop when that occurred. The Kenmore keeps rumbling like a freight train, and actually vibrated 6" towards the rear before I could shut it down. Why would Sears/Kenmore advertise that the machine can handle 20 towels, when it goes nuts with 10?

This was a very quick purchase because my Maytag broke down suddenly. I wish I'd had more time to research other options.

Packed in for me
by: Marvin

Five washes in, the Kenmore 800 -packed with options gadgets of no importance- just stopped filling with water. With no water, it would not agitate.

On a one-year warranty a Sears repairman came to my door within a week, opened up the machine, could not find the problem, ordered several parts (as guesses towards a solution) which he said would be dropped shipped to me in 11 days because the machine model number was not in his computer, and told me to call when parts arrived so he could return.

The next day I returned the machine under the Sears 30-day return policy.
