GE WCVH6600HWW Front loading Washer

by Regretting this purchase
(Utah)

This washer is a DISASTER!! I've had this washer for a year and a half and have already had it repaired so many times I have lost count. It becomes unbalanced on just about every load. Washing anything slightly heavy, like bath towels, is a nightmare because the bumping and thumping of the unbalanced load shakes my whole house. I have had a GE authorized repairman out to fix this problem more than once. It never gets resolved. The thing just is not engineered properly.

As for cleaning, the washer is average at best. To really get things clean you have to use the heavy wash cycle that takes 2 hours. Yeah, 2 HOURS.

This machine has also shredded some items of clothing. (Don't ask me how a washer shreds clothing, I can't figure it out and neither could the repairman.) With this machine and its matching dryer, lint and pet hair are there to stay. Don't make the same mistake I did and buy this poorly engineered washing machine.

My GE Model WCVH6800J1WW is now sitting outside until it can be carted away. It filled the house up with dark grey plumes of smoke. I no longer trust it in the house.

I've checked for a recall on this model and can't find one yet There sure are a lot of complaints.

Do Not buy and warn Everyone you can about this G.E.sham. The front load washer I purchased WASN'T cheap a G.E.Profile,is COMPLETE JUNK and G.E.does anything to Evade any responsibility. Same problem as most posted, violent vibration spinning on high speed, wet clothing, smoke, bellows shredding, ect. This washer has also been minimally used. I'd put a lower rating if there was one.

GE Adora Bearings NEW
by: Anonymous

GE adora purchased from Home depot in 2013 is now 3 years old and we have just been told the bearings are going and it will cost upwards of $500 to fix. Screw that this washer is a POS! We had problems from the get go with it not spinning out heavier loads and now this. Not fixing just replacing. The sales person said they wont even sell GE because of all the service calls and that GE discontinued the model but not recalling it so no help from them. Do not buy GE! FYI electrolux is also made by GE.

Replaced my crappy GE washer... NEW
by: Anonymous

Last summer our craptastic GE washer finally died and we replaced it with the $300 Admiral from Home Depot and after about a year it's obvious that this cheap little washer (top loader) does a better job than the craptastic GE front loader. We wasted so much $ on the GE that I can't believe it.

My advice to those of you who still have this washing machine is to cut your losses and replace it with a cheap, basic top loader that simply works. The $300 Admiral washer will wash or king size comforter with no issues at all.

We still have the GE Adora dryer that came with the washer as a matched set and I've replaced all bearings, bushings, pulley and shaft and the next time it breaks down, it will also be replaced.

Needless to say, we will NEVER buy a GE product again, EVER!"

Awful piece of junk. GE is out of it's mind NEW
by: Lorne Caplan

The agitation is violent and I've had multiple appliance maintenance service calls to no effect. It got to the point that one of the hooks holding the drum up broke. We changed the hook, remounted it and the violent shaking continued until the rubber was burning and ripped round the drum (seal). Finally, the bearings and seal in the back broke and now it's just a piece of scrap metal.

This model and likely all GE's are garbage. Yes, I'm making that statement which is absolute, but given that GE never gave a hoot about my multiple calls, I need not hold anything back.

Stay far away from any GE appliance. They're out of the business now anyways and just licensing their name.

Recall Needed!!! NEW
by: Anonymous

Our wcvh6600 is doing the same thing! Filling up with smoke! In fact, one of our clothing items was burned! Called GE and they said nothing was wrong! But the smoke continues to fill! I do not understand why this model is not included in the recall when it's obviously the exact same problem! GE has definitely disappointed me and I do not see us EVER purchasing another GE product of any sort again! They clearly admitted something was wrong by recalling different models with the same problem!!!!!

Me again, took the damn thing apart. NEW
by: DrFixit

Okay if your clothes stink, it because a bunch of crud has built up on the back of the basket and the only way to get at it is to disassemble the machine then it would take a wire brush to clean it. there is no cleaner that I know of that could clean up that mess since most of it is above the water line, up to and including the center of the basket. The crud is on the nylon case too. The bad news is that the "spider" shaft mount on the back of the metal basket is made of some cheap alloy that corrodes and has broken. My bearings were fine but now I need a whole $600+ basket because they don't sell the alloy part separately. Other manufacturers do sell them for theirs. It helps to have a friend that has an appliance repairman for a friend. otherwise I would have had to an outer case with new bearings $400 and a basket $600 plus labor. my math comes up with well over the cost of a new machine and you can bet it won't be even remotely related to a GE product. never again GE. Where's the lawyers, not enough money in washing machine class actions?

almost worst machine ever. NEW
by: DrFixit

We used to have a Maytag agitated top loader like Mom's, the worst thing ever was to change a drive belt. Not a difficult job once every 15 years or so. Now I've got a GE (used to be a valued name in appliances. It shakes rattles and smokes to say nothing of destroying our expensive sheets, blankets and clothes with ragged cuts in them until I replaced the boot with the "new style" now a year later and I'm ready to kick it to the curb and get a nice top loader if they will let me examine the mechanical parts first and it will not be a GE, I have good luck with Kenmore, I'd get a Maytag but their HE front loader wash actually worse than the GE and $1500 went to the dump. Now I need to buy a $400 tub plus $170 service call which is more than a good washer should cost to begin with. Never again GE, Shame on your greed and no recall.

Replaced the pulley so many times because the nylon nut loosens and then warps the pulley. We replaced so many parts that I feel like a GE repairman. I have learned so much about the odds and ends of this junk that I am ready to take out the counter that I built over it and get a top load machine, but never GE. Right now I am faced with the belt actually cutting a path through the plastic tub. It is so over.

GE Adora GHDVH626H1WW NEW
by: G-Daddy

My wife was so pleased with her new purchase (approx 6 years ago). Two young boys meant a lot of laundry, so she looked forward to larger loads, less dry time etc. Well, the door gasket/seal leaked, a little, within mere weeks then ultimately failed. The tear in the left wall was so severe I figured there was no way it would be covered under warranty, must have been our doing, so I just had it replaced quickly by my tech. We could never do small loads, half loads or anything short of a full basket without the machine dancing across the basement floor. I levelled it weekly, if not more, to no avail. Drum contents typically had to be balanced by hand, usually with similarly poor results. The noise was always so bad it caused my son to have seizures, so we had to pile the laundry up for days on end until we found time around his school attendance. Just recently our own smoke show started, I inspected the seal (which had been shredded on the inside), found the drum was unstable so knew the bearing was going, then priced my replacement parts out at over $350...with a wait time to order the half tub unit in. No thanks, no more, never a good machine to begin with, not a brand I will support in any way/shape/form again.

My 4 year old GE front loading washer is a piece of crap. It gets off balance even with light loads. Today I had a set of sheets and three normal size towels and during the last part of spin cycle it goes nuts making noises and when I got to the machine I could smell burned rubber. When I opened door smoke rolled out of tub area. I am done with front loaders. My first front loader was a Samsung and it was no better. I love my front loading dryer. I've never had any problems. I'm done with front loading machines. I will be buying a top loader.

possible to fix?? NEW
by: Anonymous

I am having the same troubles with my 6 year old front loader. Just started with the loud spin and smoking with the burnt rubber smell. Called GE after seeing that this is a common complaint and also after seeing the recall notice for the similar machine. Customer service at GE was very friendly, sent out a tech at their expense to check it out -- 10 days after I called. the repair guy was here maybe 10 minutes. Turned on the spin, claimed to not hear the loud noise coming from the machine. His determination was that the problem was a result of a tiny drip of water coming out the front -- I damaged the front gasket with a pants button and now it has a slow drip. He stated that the drip was running down into the motor causing the problems. I questioned why this would result in a loud noise and burnt rubber smell during spin. He muttered something about having been doing this for 25 years and left.
My question -- could this even possibly be correct? What is the problem and is it fixable by my dear handy husband? Anyone had any luck with repairs?

6 years old and never happy with it.
I purchased on brand reputation.
Goes out of balance all the time and takes forever to complete it's cycle as a result. Cannot handle dense items such as bath mats or beach towels which hold a lot of water... as this causes the washer to bang and rattle and bounce around. I'll put up with it until it croaks and won't be buying another GE washer. I do have to say this isn't my general experience with GE products which tend to be pretty good......washers I guess.... not so much!

Needless to say, we will NEVER buy a GE product again, EVER!

I agree with all of the previous reviews. From the 1st day I purchased this washer (6 yrs ago)it has jumped around and been off balance no matter what the load size or how many times we've tried to level it. We even put rubber no slip mats under it thinking that would help...NOPE! Then just this week I experienced the "apache helicopter" sound and ridiculous amounts of smoke coming from the washer. So glad I was home or who knows what would have happened. I will never purchase a GE again. The salesperson at our local appliance center didn't recommend GE either.

Our first GE washer bought 6 years ago. We hardly we use it. On March 11, 2015 during the final 2 minutes spin, makes loud noise like an Apache Helicopter. Smoke filled laundry room. I opened the machine to unload clothes, laundry machine basket filled with smoke from burnt rubber. It seems like the basket rubbed the rubber gasket during the high RPM and there are some pieces of burnt rubber by the lid. It also vibrate and dance that damaged the matching dryer on the side with deep scratch. I researched online for possible cause, majority says by repairmen that rear bearing is bad and could be the shaft. It can be repaired but the cost is too much. Recommend to buy new one. You think that if you paid OVER A THOUSAND WORHT OF A MACHINE, SHOULD LAST AT LEAST 10 YEARS SPECIALY IF WE HARDLY USE IT? Replaced today 3/15/2015 but not GE.

Junk, Junk, Junk NEW
by: Anonymous

I am just adding one more to the huge pile of dissatisfied customers.

The Drive Pulley that engages the Drive Belt that spins the drum is made of soft alloy. The center of the pulley will just flare under normal washer operation and then the Pulley will start wobbling on the drum axis. Then the washer starts to "dance" across the room.

Of course it will stop wobbling! That is when the Drive Belt falls off the pulley... This will be the 6th time I fix this, $150 in parts alone!

If the engineer that designed this great piece of "modern appliance" could please stand up so that we can throw him in the Spin Cycle... Oh wait, that will not do any damage cause the darn thing no longer spins!

Hi y'all. My GE washer is doing the same thing; loud noise, shaking, smoking. I've been reading a bit online and it seems to be the rubber gasket on the door that needs to be replaced. I just called GE customer relations. The associate was polite and willing to send a technician out at no charge to me. However, I know what the problem is so I don't really need a tech to tell me. GE doesn't cover the cost of labor or parts. Despite everyone here complaining of the same issue, there is no recall and the associate denied this is a reoccurring problem. So I urge y'all to call and complain. Maybe they'll recall them and we'll all be put out of our washing machine misery? 1-800-386-1215.

I bought GE Front Load Washer WCVH6800J0MS and the matching dryer along with an entire kitchen of GE Appliances (fridge, dishwasher, microwave, dual oven range) when we remodeled our kitchen and laundry rooms in 2008. Apparently we spent $9K on garbage as every item has had some sort of problems beginning at 6 months.
I sold perfectly good Maytag Washer and dryer for pennies to have "matching stainless appliances"
This washer is the worst washer I've ever had or seen at family or friends. It takes 3 hours to wash even a small load of bath towels as it constantly out of balance.

Highly Disappointed with the wash machine. It is a very poor design. I am having the Same issues as everyone else. Front seal went bad about a year ago so I replaced it. Now the bearing went bad causing the drum to rub the seal causing smoke and a burnt rubber smell. There are chunks of burnt rubber now in the drum. This probably is a fire hazard. After reading all these complaints I have become disheartened with GE. Unfortunately I will not be purchasing there products any longer. Well same issue as everyone else washer will become unbalanced easily. I've replaced the door gasket 1x. Now the darn thing is smoking like it's on fire. I called GE and even though it's 7 years old they are waving the Tech Fee. The whole customer service department has been helpful which it could be easy to blow me off because of the age. I still think you spend that much money on an item it should last more than 7 years. I am grateful for the help they are offering I would still consider buying another GE because of it.

GE Front Loading Washer NEW
by: Frustrated

Interesting because I am trying to find someone to come and get the machine as scrap metal and I will give it away, found this site. I thought it was just me with this washing machine nightmare! I absolutely agree this was the worst washing machine ever, caused me so many problems in the last 5 years. Will never by GE only because their customer service was terrible. At least other manufacturers want to keep your business, but GE did not come to bat. Had to by a new machine right away and went to Home Depot (I'm from Ontario), bought the new LG Top Loader just came in this month, MRP is about $1250 and got it for $736 as they will match any internet or manufacturer's price and beat that price by 10%

Thanks for the info, suddenly I don't feel so guilty for getting rid of a 5-year old machine that cost us a lot of money (down the drain).

Update... NEW

In August 2012, I wrote:

"Our GE washer WHDVH660HWW nightmare...
by: Anonymous

In the 5-6 years we've owned this GE front loading washing machine, we have had numerous issues develop. The washer cannot be leveled so that it doesn't rock and walk across the floor when spinning. The washer actually destroyed the laundry tub and the cabinet is now torn at the corners from the frenetic and spastic movements it makes when spinning. Clothes don't get very clean, some loads don't spin, so the clothes come out soaking wet. The door seal leaks and rust is forming on the front lower section of the cabinet. The control panel shorts out and the bleach dispenser is a joke, as soon as you pour the bleach in, it drains directly on the clothes, ruining them. We have always used the HE detergent and a GE service person told us "this washer has serious issues", and we've lived with it this long, but not for much longer as it's failing to run at all now. What a ripoff at $1000!!! We'll never buy a GE product again! "

Well, last night the rusty, noisy GE washer died... We hauled it out of the house and we'll replace it ASAP and we'll look at any other manufacturer's products EXCEPT GE! We will never buy a GE product again as long as we live.

The GE Adora dryer started making horrible noises last fall, so I replaced the 3 front bushings, pulley, rear bearing and pulley ($80 for the parts) and everything was nice and quiet again, but the noises started again a few weeks. Needless to say, I will not be replacing the parts again... I'll replace the GE Adora dryer, too. GE makes the most craptastic consumer products ever and we will not be ripped off again!

G.E. technician came to the house to asses my problem at a cost of $89. He spun the drum by hand and agreed that the drum is broken in the rear and the cost to fix exceeds the purchase cost of the machine. Took my money and left! BAD customer service due to the fact that G.E. knows this machine is a lemon! Also, he tried to talk me into buying another G.E. machine over other ones with much better performance and far less complaints by trying to give me a $50 voucher towards my next G.E. purchase!! I think this is why this country is struggling in manufacturing/customer service. Just send it overseas.

You would think that a company that makes jet engines for Boeing commercial aircraft could make a simple washing machine. I feel lucky that my problems are recent after eight years of ownership. Vibrations problem solved NEW
by: Anonymous

Well the machine had give us problems for a long time. It would sound like an apache helicopter, would get off balanced. Then the other day the very heavy counter weight on the top of the tub ripped off leaving a hole about the size of a racket ball in the top of the tub. This made a loud sound as the heavy weight landed in the bottom of the machine. As the machine continued to spin I noticed how quite it was. So after using some JB weld to repair the hole in the top I tried a load and the machine worked better than ever! Now after 10 loads of wash the machine is running and spinning like you would expect it to. So you may want to try and remove the top counter weight on the tub of yours and run a load and see if it works for you. It worked for me.

After 5 years I have to get a new washer NEW
by: Anonymous

Just had the GE repairman come to check on my washing machine. Making a lot of noise in the spin cycle and emitting white smoke.

Was told the bearings are shot and it will cost about $1700 to repair. He said I should just buy a new one (GE will give me up to $100 towards a new washer -- big deal)!

He said this model seems to have this problem when it's about 4-5 years old. What a rip off. Will have to go and buy a new washing machine this weekend. There's a lot of other complaints about this model it seems but GE doesn't seem to care. Will never buy another GE product.

My washer also vibrates and sounds like Apache helicopter in my basement. Problem is bad design. Pulley is cast Aluminum and drum shaft is solid steel - I guess designed to save money and/or designed to fail. You would think GE would admit this and make good on bad design. No more GE for me. To replace drum shaft would cost about 1/2 to 3/4 of what I paid for washing machine. Will be looking at how drum is connected to motor shaft for next machine.

This washer is now on my front lawn!!! I bought this washer 5 years ago. Within the first year, there was recall due to a fire hazard. The technician fixed it. Then the seal around the door broke, again still under warranty so it was replaced. Seal went again a year later, replaced it at a cost of $750 including labor. 2 years later, seal goes again( it actually looks like it melted) and all the water leaks from my main floor through the ceiling into the basement, ruining ceilings and flooring on both levels. Will never own another GE front load washer again.

Front loading washer GE machine
by: Benjamin ( Canada )

I read so many bad comments ,but in fact this product is just a great unii. It could be a defect directly from the assembly firm. Someone must have slept on the job,,,,When I changed the driving belt I realised that the main puley attached to the drum .was loose. I would say 2 or 3 mm lose. I just had to tighten the main bolt and the unit was quiet 100%. Since we had this unit it was always noisy, This explains the dissatisfaction of most complains coming from ignorant people. I am wondering why these people want to destroy G.E. reputaion.

Smoking machine!
by: Anonymous

I purchased GE front loader in Feb 07 and have only had the usual unbalanced, wet heavy loads every once in a while, until last night, loud banging noises..so I paused it and opened the door and out came the smoke, smelled like burning rubber.. Called the GE service# 800-386-1215 and was transferred to consumer relations..my model # was not included in recall, but they are waiving the diagnosis fee to have a technician come out and see what the problem is. Depending on what it is, I was told they would work with me on cost, because a washing machine should not be smoking, right? I hope this all ends in a low cost or no cost fix and things will be all right in my laundry room again! Fingers crossed!

GE has issues with many of its appliances . Like this washer some have known risks of fire. That being said- i feel fortunate to only have experienced a monetary loss and not a death or loss of our home. I also own a GE profile refrigerator that has a known issue with its mother board. GE failed to contact the consumers but did notify technicians of the faulty part. I will NEVER purchase another GE product again. Hopefully GE will get the message where it is heard the most- in their profit and sales..and reputation. This is a company no longer concerned with people, product quality or ethics. Shame on them!

WCVH6600H1MS Smoke / Fire
by: Mark L

I am a GE employee from another one of their businesses. I purchased this front loader about 4 years ago. Well today, it smoked, and caused a small fire inside the unit. Checked everything out, motor and belt, but looked OK. It appears that rear bearing heated up, caused unit to smoke, and caused lint/paper inside of unit to catch fire. I agree with all of you. GE front loaders are a piece of SH#IT. GE is only focusing on profits, and not quality. GE appliance CEO, along with Jeff Immelt should be fired. But by who, the hand pick board? Getting rid of this piece of crap, and buying an LG. The LG is about twice the cost of my GE unit with my GE employee discount. As you can see, I am now not loyal to the products for the company which i work for. GE = CRAP

Awful Machine
by: Anonymous

HATE HATE HATE this machine - purchased home with this machine already in it. Spin cycle works occasionally, however, whenever I wash anything a little heavy - like towels, the machine runs for a couple hours and never spins the water off. GE's solution - pull the wet towels out, ring out the excess water and then put them back in to spin?!!?!? That's your solution??? That's not how a person should have to do laundry!!! Now the thing sounds like an airplane taking off whenever it's in the spin cycle. Refuse to pay $90 to have GE out to look at it (only available during the week?? thanks a lot - I, like the rest of the world, work during those hours). Just bought an LG top loader from Home Depot and can't wait to smash this machine to bits.

GE front-load washer-WCVH6600HWW

GE has lost their quality reputation. Our washer is only 5 years old (outside of its 3year service warranty we purchased).
The past year we've had problems with loud spinning action, stomping, walking, smoke, burning smell on clothes and cracking sounds. There has been mold growing on the rubber door gasket that is difficult to remove and occasionally the washer shreds our clothing- not sure how this happens! We paid a service tech to come out. He said our bearing needs to be replaced, and recommended getting a new machine since the parts/ labor to repair our washer would run about $500-600. We are leary to buy another GE, but like owning American and energy-efficient products. We hoped we could find a durable product to last 10-15 years. Any suggestions?

After many back and forth calls and emails and a few visits from different technicians, they were able to ship/set up me the newest model for $400 - with a 5 year warranty. They stated the new model's tub is designed differently, so the cracking should never happen. And in the directions, it states HE detergent is required, not recommended as in the old washer's directions. Non HE could create increased corrosion rate - they said...

New house, new GE appliances=HUGE EXPENSES!!!
by: Beyond disgust with GE all together!!

It amazes me that GE has not gotten the message on these machines!! I am on my 4th machine, and happy that this one has lasted a couple of years without issues (really sad to be happy with that). The first three did all of the above that everyone else's did. A friend got the top if the line machine and had none of those problems that I thought maybe that would make a difference even though that shouldn't, but rather list change options. After weeks of fighting with GE, repair man out so many times he recognized my address and phone number on work orders, emails to GE from me with video of machine doing its song and dance, emails from business where I bought all appliances, and having a very unfriendly conversation with representative, we settled on deal that I would get upgraded machine and pay the difference. Honestly I have not had any probs since, until now. The fabric softener drains, but the flushing water is left. Not sure what to do with it all. As with many other people I know, I get sick of having to clean all of that out all of the time because of mold and odors. My mom has a sears (kenmore) set and hasn't had a drop of trouble and never has the "front loader" odor.
On another note, problems with oven and dish washer too!!

Here's my 2 cents
by: Anonymous

Like the rest of you we bought the GE upright washer and dryer. Same experiences with the washer NOT just walking across the floor on spin, more like a violent stomp dance. I remember being out in the backyard when we first got the washer and it did it's dance...I hear the banging so loud against the walls and floor (upper floor laundry room) I came running in the house to see what in the world was going on. Also, like many of you I experienced the nastiest Customer Service representatives on the phone with GE (who NEVER heard of any other customers with similar complaints to mine). I first repairman who came out told me I was using the "wrong" type of laundry soap!!! so after trying every known brand on the market and going thru 3 more repair men, I finally realized that GE was fully aware of the problem and could care less. It's dollars and sense to them (ie. Ford Pinto) So, I now live with that fact and am resolved to NEVER buy another GE product again. Life is lessons learned unfortunately.

We have a problem with the machine spinning, or pausing half way through the cycle and not finishing out the wash cycle. I have gotten it fixed multiple times. I cleaned out the filter, and hoped that would repair it, but the stupid thing still will not spin. We purchased both the washing machine and dryer. Dryer seems to work great, but not the front loader.. I know a lot of people who swear by front loaders, but apparently they don't have this one. There is also a lot of reviews that talk about this same machine smoking. That's scary! I almost always check reviews on items before purchasing, not sure why we didn't on this.

The last 2 letters are the issue. It even says on my paperwork FWW not FWM. Even GE claims they only recocnize it as another series. Mine has been broken for 6 months. I go to my daughters house or a friend . Since I am only 2 people in the ohuse and one is out of town alot. I use to only use it maybe 1 load every week or 2. So I did not use it heavily and often. regret my purchase of GE front loader
by: Anonymous

The stabilizing weight fell off this front loading washer. The plastic casing surrounding the drum completely cracked. This unit is less than 4 years old. So incredibly disappointed. Will have to pay GE $100 for repairman to come out and tell me it's too expensive to fix. It's already been recalled for wiring safety issues. Garbage product.

Worst POS Ever
by: Anonymous B

Model #WCVH6600HGG - I have had my GE Profile front loader for just about 5 years now. From the beginning it would not spin towels properly. GE service came and replaced the shocks (I think that's what it was) and it worked better for a couple of months, but quickly degenerated back to the POS it has always been. Last w/e I tried to wash a load of towels and simply could not get it to spin the water out - it thrashed and banged and clanged - so I ended up taking them to my neighbor and they were spun in 10 minutes flat (she has a Whirlpool Duet). I brought them back to dry in my dryer, which fortunately does work. I cannot wash blankets or bathroom rugs in this washer (must take them to a laundromat, not what I planned when purchasing a set that was almost $2k).

I have never been so disappointed in a company or a product in my entire life. Like most folks on here I have no interest in ever purchasing another GE product. I did call an appliance store and they suggested that I have the washer removed from the pedestal before purchasing a new (NON GE) set. I hate to spend the money on having it removed from the pedestal when I suspect it is just going to do the same thing again. Honestly, I would like to take it out in an empty field and shoot it full of lead.

Re the mold issue - you must leave the door open to a front load washer so it can dry out. I also take the detergent tray out after I'm finished washing so it and the area in which it fits can dry. So I have not had a mold problem (I learned this on a previous front loader set - one that actually worked - also a Whirlpool Duet).

I agree with all the other comments about this product being a defective design and I think a class action suit against GE is a great idea. I had hoped to learn that GE has improved their products after all the problems with mine, but it appears they continue to produce nothing but crap. At this point, I don't know what brand I DO trust as all I want to do is to be able to wash my clothes.

Obviously if GE does read this site they care nothing for their current customers or potential ones. I, for one, will advise everyone I know to never purchase another GE product.

WCVH6600HWW Front loading Washer
So far I have had to replace my GE oven (would not hold correct temp) and now this front loading washer. The repair man was here today on a recall of the GE dishwasher. Could it be I got the lemon of all of my appliances when I moved into a new house 5 years ago.
The repair man said the part that went bad on the washer --spins the cylinder and it is very common on any brand of front load washer that this breaks.
Like my house filled up with smoke and this is a common thing?? What if I had left the house! If it is so common why are they not making a stronger part?????? He told us it was not worth him fixing it that we could buy a new one for the cost of repairs. Are GE appliances only lasting 5 years? My thoughts were on the cost that it would be a 10 year purchase.
I am going back to a top loader washer and believe me it will not be a GE..

Got to meet some nice firemen last night
by: Anonymous

For the past 5 years, our washer has been annoying but not scary. Yes, sometimes we have to re-spin clothes multiple times because they're soaking wet (usually towels). Sometimes the washer thunks so loud that it wakes the dead. These things I could live with. But having the smoke detector go off and the fire department summoned do not leave me feeling good about this washing machine. Fortunately no damage was done (the clothes were fine) but I'll be buying a new washer and it won't be made by GE.

My HE washer is a joke purchased it on June 13, 2011 and it is so noisy during the rinse cycle it is unreal. Sounds like the barrel is going to just drop out of it. My clothes always stink they never smell clean at all it is very sad. I have used the wash tub cycle and this does not help at all. I called customer service and they said your warranty is up. It is 1 1/2 years old. I only wash for my husband and I and our washer is crap all ready. I had my top loader for over 8 years and washed laundry all the time with a family of 5 this just makes no sense at all. It was a government push to have these energy effecient washers and so they just threw the junk together and sold it.....Thanks GE

Disappointed
by: Andrea

We owned a GE front loader for just over three years and the drum in the machine is already broken causing me to have to travel almost 60 miles to wash my clothes by my sister's house. How disappointed I am with this purchase, you cannot imagine. And when the local technician came, he almost already knew what the problem was. And here's the downright funny (for want of a better word) part. He told me to replace it is $5 less than to purchase a brand new machine. Tell me, where the hell has consumerism gone? To think that a purchase this significant and expensive can be annihilated in less than three years is abominable. The dryer works fine, but the washer used to leave my clothes smelly and I totally agree with all the comments that it never washed the clothes clean. When I rented I had a top loader and we never had a problem with it for over six years. My sister's top loader washes much cleaner and faster than the so called "high efficiency"...that's a laugh) GE front loader. i WISH I COULD GET MY MONEY BACK FOR THE PURCHASE BECAUSE IN THE BAHAMAS, WE OFTEN PAY ALMOST THREE TIMES THE PRICE AS THE SAME ITEMS IN THE US!

Replacemed the shocks still shakes so bad it turned over my trailer house
by: Anonymous

Biggest rip off ever. The service guy from Cooks Appliances in Nixa, MO charged us $500 to replace the shocks, no estimate before hand as promised just said pay now. Then it made no difference and he said it was our floor in a newer all brick city code built house, yeah right. The machine still wouldn't drain after he left and I got online and found out how to clean the drain filter and that fixed that part. The thing is beating a hole in the wall of my house right now. I finally stopped using the ge and bought a Frigidaire Affinity and it quit 5 days after the one year warranty ran out so I had to drag the ge back in and hook it up so we'd have half ass clean clothes. All these damn appliance stores don't even carry a top loader anymore. The idiot sales people tell you that are not energy efficient and they waste water by actually cleaning your clothes. BS you can tell me that front loaders save anything when they only last a year and take 2 plus hours to do a load of laundry, yeah that's better for the environment than the ones that lasted 30 years. General Electric and Frigidaire should be ashamed of themselves for not standing behind their products. While am bitching Don't ever buy Progressive Insurance you pay your premiums and then you have a claim and the deny you. They cost me my $208,000 SeaRay Boat and now I have file bankruptcy for the loan to Bank of America. If there is another country to live in some please tell me because this one is in the toilet!

Smoke and mold
by: Anonymous

I have the same issue as most others commenting about -after 6 years it has been a good machine but I would think it would last longer. Technician came out for $99.95 and told me what I knew already - they rear 'spider' internally holding the basket has corroded and cracked - causing smoke and heavy vibrations/noise during high rev spin cycle. Smoke ruined one wash of clothes..Technician said it will cost about $500 to fix (replace tub).

Called the customer relations and they would send tub and free seal (moldy) for $225 but the warranty would last 1 year instead of 5 year if i went the $500 route...decisions...
I mentioned this is not much relief and said next washer I buy will not be GE..

poor design IMHO...

I actually got my info from Consumer Report ... Which I'm so disappointed in the magazine I cancelled my subscription!

I've had mine just over a year and I'm looking for a new top loader ( with an agitator). If I could pick it up I would have thrown it out my huge window !!!!!

I can't stand the clunking because it can't stay balanced.... I actually bolted it to 2 pieces of plywood by strapping it down to the wood...

If it cleaned the clothes I could tolerate the racket, but as I said I'm looking for a new one!! Who can you trust?

I contacted GE Customer Service and told them of my problem with their front loading washing machine. They agreed to dispatch a service technician and wave the diagnosis fee. The technician came to my home today took off the top panel of the washer, performed a visual inspection, tightened up some bolts, turned on the machine and ran a diagnostic which reported no error codes. Additionally, he removed the front panel below the washer door and cleaned out the filter. He believes the smoke was a result of the washer being off balance during the spin cycle causing the drum to rub against the rubber gasket around the door. I had already purchased a highly rated LG stackable washer/dryer set but at least I now know the GE set is safe and in working order and can donate them to a charitable organization. They may not be the best but I'm sure that someone who doesn't have a washer/dryer will appreciate them, noise, dancing and all.

Our GE washer WHDVH660HWW nightmare...
by: Anonymous

I'm am so excited, we have had the smoking problem with super noisy spin cycle for over a year now. The GE repair man came out today and quoted $550 to repair washer because they have to replace basket. I called 800-386-1215 GE Customer Service and the lady said she would have washer repaired for FREE!! My dryer was also squeaking, it was going to be $350 to repair...she said they would repair that for FREE too! These units are about 5 years old so I could not believe GE was going to help me. I asked if the $79 repair man fee could be reimbursed and she said yes. We also have the option of buying new similiar units for $1,134 installed, (retail $2,899) if we have any future problems. I am shocked at such GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

It should be recalled!!!!
by: Bonnie

I moved into my brand new model home in December 2010 and it was equipped with all new appliances. The GE front loading washing machine model number WCVH6600HWW2 and dryer, model number DCVH660EH1WW came with the house. The washing machine has been a problem since day one. It's always off balance, struts across the floor, could wake the dead during the spin cycle, and filled the house with smoke during operation yesterday. I've never been happy with its performance and now it's just frightening and unsafe to use. I went on the internet to see what I could learn about this model and couldn't find anything positive. I learned that GE front Loading washing machines that have model numbers beginning with WBVH5 have been recalled due to " fire and shock hazards to consumers." From the reviews I'm reading from other customers, it appears that this model fits the description of the other model that has been recalled. I'm game for joining a class action law suit. How do I file?

Model WCVH6600HWW WORST WASHER-Junk!
by: Don from Spokane

We had this washer for 3 years and just replaced it with a new Samsung Efficient Top Loader with a feature called VRT (vibration reduction technology). Just got it today.
Our Model WCVH6600HWW GE was a pile of garbage. It would vibrate so much we thought it was going to walk out of the laundry room...I mean it was scary the way it shook. It took very little for it to become "out of balance"....we even put some vibration dampners from Lowes under the legs...helped a little, but when it went wild, there was no stopping this piece of garbage. I'd never buy a GE washer again. I don't even want to Craigslist it, because I wouldn't want to sell this to anyone. So far, with a couple of loads, the Samsung Top loader is nice and smooth.......I'll keep my fingers crossed.
The GE was crap, crap, crap......

$ 800.00 -GE Junk
by: Marques

Everything everyone says about the front loader washer is true because it is definitely a piece of junk. No matter what you wash in it the machine walks and bangs like no tommorrow. I would gladly swap this new washer for my old Maytag top loader which was 20 years old when we decided to buy the GE front loader and had spent $800.00 to boot. The many times we had a serviceman out to repair this machine we were told a different excuse as to why it acted the way it did each time they came. GE must produce an excuse book for their repairmen so the same lie isn't used more then once. This will be the last GE product that I'll ever own.

GE Front Load Washer
by: Anonymous

Is anyone interested in launching a class action lawsuit against GE for this piece of crap washing machine? My water bill has gone up!! since I bought it in 2009 since it takes 2 - 3 hours to do a "large" load. And that isn't 14 pairs of jeans, that is like one pair of jeans and a few t-shirts. Anything larger (like 1/3 of the machine full of clothes) and the thing bangs and bounces. We have had the recall fixed (the smoking fire wire), so hopefully that won't be an issue. I am in Canada, but I think a class action lawsuit, even just to get our money back to buy a decent washer would be a great idea.

This washer is terrible. I have had nearly every problem mentioned in the other posts. It started chewing up clothes only a few months after we got it. Under Armour and similar athletic clothing are it's favorites. It can't manage to spin one out of ten loads dry the first time around. I have changed detergents over and over, disgusted at their inability to remove smells from my laundry. Finally I realized it was the machine, and now I just do the best I can by adding febreeze or whatever. It bangs and slams during every load, regardless of size. I refuse to call anymore repair people, especially anyone connected to GE since they have been unable to help and have even acted "shocked" when I have told them about the various problems. I am shopping for a top loader and it will definitely not be a GE!!

Horrible Machine!
by: Linda Love

This is our first front loading washer and will be our last. We purchased this because I use to work in a laundry which had all front loading washers. Those washers had very little problems. My mistake was not buying the same brand as the laundry had.

This GE front load washer can not handle a load of four towels or eight towels. It does not matter how many towels I put in the washer it just can not spin them out with out us having to readjust the placement of the towels several times during the wash cycle. I have the same problem when trying to wash jackets, sweaters, blankets, bedspreads and rugs.
This machine does not clean clothes properly and they come out with stains on them which they did not have when they went in.
This is the worse investment I ever made. I can not believe there is not a class action suit against GE.
I would not recommend anyone purchase this machine or any other GE product.

Zero Stars for this Washer
by: Anonymous

This is my 2nd front loader and wish I had my OLD Fridgedaire (?) front loader back as it was far superior in almost every way except that once a load began there was no stopping it.

Where to start....shortest wash time setting is 36 minutes - it's a lie. I've tried putting few clothes in & even clean clothes in and never had a load be only 36 minutes. Always at least 50 minutes.

Shakes so badly every time it's used that it has to be pushed back into place.

Becomes off balance if ANYTHING somewhat heavy is washed, i.e.: cotton...

The seal leaks - has leaked since the first week

The bleach dispencer just pours bleach in on dry clothes

The detergent dispenser just pours detergent straight in so it leaks out the seal

I've had a serviceman out before the first year was up because the motor burned out and asked about all the other problems and the poor service man said it's running the way it's been made to run and shrugged and gave an apologetic smile.

We've had it for almost four years and it's always had a mold problem. Also, it's cost us HUNDREDS of dollars in torn clothing--typically shirt sleeves, but also other areas, such as the bottom hems of shirts, and even in the middle some times. Yesterday was the last straw--it shredded the sleeve on my favorite T-shirt. This POS has got to go! We have other GE appliances that came with our home and they are all garbage! No more GE for me, and the next machine will be a good old fashioned TOP LOADER.

I have had this washer for three years
by: WARD

I haven’t had many problems, it tend to get unbalanced from time to time when small loads are washed. But it always corrects itself by reversing the spin to rearrange the clothes. I leave the door open after use suggested in the owner’s manual to prevent mold. I clean the washer periodically with bleach or I will purchase those cleaning tablets for cleaning. The only thing I had to do was replace the door seal because someone left a garment hanging half out which cause the seal to not be tight on the door. Read your owner’s manual to prevent most of the issues you’re having. In most cases I don’t think it’s the machine, but user error. I will say this, because the tub shacks so much during the spin cycle the wires that connect to the water heater ten to break off. It is a good idea to pull the bottom panel and visually inspect this. all in all, I am satisfied.

GE won' admit washer has a defect
by: Anonymous

I bought my GE front load washer just 3 years ago, and lately I've been having many problems with it. First, it always gets unbalanced, regardless of if it's a light or heavy load. Then recently it was towards the end of it's cycle, when smoke was coming out of the drum. I shut it down as I thought it was going to catch on fire. I removed the back panel, belt was good, all bolts were on tight. Called GE, they said there is no defect with this, and that it's not something they've ever heard of. I asked the lady at GE, do you own a GE? She replied no, so I told her go buy one yourself and see if you don't experience the same issues i've had with this piece of sheet, and hung up on her. I will never buy a GE product again, will probably stick to the old top loader as they are less expensive and probably less problematic......

Don't ever buy a GE front loader washing machine. The drums are out of round and they leak right out of the factory. GE will not back the product up. The only way to get any satisfaction out of the situation is to tell everyone that you know about their products and service. The next time you're in a appliance store make a point of chatting with anyone that you see looking at a GE product. You won't ever get your money back but a pound of GE flesh will make you smile a little.

Not worth it
by: NJ Lady

I bought a GE front loader in 2006. It worked all right, although I did have the mold issue in the front lining. However, recently it made a horrific noise while spinning - fortunately I was in the house and stopped it right away. I shifted the load of shirts, shut the door, and it finished the cycle (about 3 min. left) with no noise...but, when I opened the door, smoke poured out. I called Sears repair service, and the service man said this machines only lasts 5 -8 years, and he had never seen the problem my machine had developed. The drum had gone out of round and was egg shaped, which casued friction with the rubber on the door which created the smoke. The drum was under warranty, but it was still going to cost me $450+ to fix. He said it wasn't worth it, and I agreed, so I went out and bought a top load machine. (Sears gave me a coupon.) My previous top loader lasted 20 years. Now I hope my front load dryer lasts a few more years (although I think it does a terrible job drying towels, it takes hours.) I had also bought the pedestals, so I am really out a lot of cash.
Side note - the charge to get the reapair person to my house was $130 - I have to work 2 days to make that much!

Worst washing machine ever
by: Portage, IN

What a mistake I made thinking the expensive front load would be great. This washing machine is the worst. It bangs & jumps around with every load. My husband has balanced it several times. Even bolting it to the cement floor did not stop it. It makes the most awful noises through out the cycle. It had shredded my towels & washclothes. Some of my clothes come out smelling horrible. How can you add detergent & fabric softner & your clothes smell horrible?? I will never buy a GE or a front load again. I'll stick with the cheap top load machines. What a waste of money.

Bangs no more, sad.
by: Rick

It banged and banged, now no more bangs, its dead. The thing took off like a rocket with a loud bang and twisted the door seal and its finally done banging. BUT no longer works, bought in 2009 looks great but what good is a machine that won't wash. This thing has scared the sh*& out of us when it really banged, thought a car hit the house or the front door got kicked down. This has bang from day one and got louder every day. Sad stories, thought I'd add mine.

Don't waste your money
by: MOLDY 2

I have had the same problems since purchasing the matching pair of GE appliances in 2006. The washer doesn't drain properly from the front loading washer. GE leads you to believe the little drain at the bottom of the front seal needs to be kept clean and then your washer will drain properly. Not true. G.E. doesn't tell you that you have to take off the front bottom panel and drain the filter reservoir under the washer, which is filled with gross, disgusting water. I'm sure this water must go into the clothes with each wash. The washer outer seal is molded beyond belief. By the time you figure out the front seal is molded under the flap and next to the washer barrel, it is too late for bleach to remove it. What a total waste of money! At any rate, I went to the store and purchased a new washer and dryer, you can be sure it is not a G.E.

Shredded cloths!!
by: Anonymous

My GE front loader has been shredding our cloths since we purchased it new in 2008. Can't find the connection, at 1st it was only my husbands golf shirts. These seemed to be the garment of choice, leaving large 4" areas with tare holes that looked like it had been attacked by an animal. Recently my running shorts fell victim to the mystery shredding???

Designed to break !
by: David S

Just a few tips for you all. As with everything else today, these things are designed to break. If this were not true, they would not sell any more. And repair guys would be out of a job.
Unplug machine.
Remove lower panel (3 7mm screws).
Place a small container to catch water in front of white cap. Unscrew cap (counter clock wise) rinse and place back, finger tight.
Look with light at the 4 shock absorbers attached to the frame of unit. If one or two are not connected, then re-connect using one of the plastic bullets probably lying on the floor inside the washer. These are designed to fall out resulting in smashing of drum against washer wall. To stop these from falling out you can drill a small hole in tip and slide a sleeve pin through it. Hope this helps !!

I have tried for over 5 months to get GE to replace my front load washer and they keep saying that they will give me a discounted price. Let me say they wanted to bring me a 1,000 dollar washer, me pay 272.76 and them take my washer I paid over 600 for. Now where I went to school that's not a discounted price. I will never purchase another appliances from GE. If there is was ever a call for a class action law suit this it it!!!!!!

Mold mold and mold!!!'
by: Anonymous

This machine the worst! And GE was no help!
My main issue is the mold!!!!! First the whole front of the machine is off at all times because after every load I have to drain the trap of the nasty smelly water that is reused in your next wash! Not to mention the mold that grows in the detergent dispenser..completely covered in black! I have to run a cleaner cycle and bleach at least once a week! As well as use a pipe cleaner to try and clean the tray...I have suffered for 5 years with this piece of sh**! if anyone knows of a lawsuit over it please let me know..

I had this model for almost three years, and we have already replaced the motor when the machine was just over a year, we paid 75.00 for the service call but GE did cover the cost of the new motor. However, yesterday is stopped spinning the clothes and would not get past the spin cycle. We are tired of this and now have to buy new washer. Please do not waste your money on a GE front loading washer.

GE Machine smokes
by: Anonymous

Our 3 and 1/2 year old WCVH6600HWW machine began smoking during the spin cycle. We stopped the machine, full of smoke, and pulled out the clothing. Luckily we were home so it didnt burn the house down.

The GE authorized repair person cannot get here for almost a week and says they may need to order parts once they see what's wrong.

The machine does jump frequently and smells of mold.

This is a horrible machine.

by: Peeved

I have owned this washer for three years. I purchased the extended warranty, since people had warned me about possible tears in the rubber gasket. THAT never happened, but I have had nothing but trouble with this machine. Un-balanced loads that take HOURS to run through the cycle. Multiple visits by the GE authorized repair service people. Suggestions: full loads only from one guy. Smaller loads from another guy. One actually adjusted some "computer" things---and it seemed to work better----but only for a short time. The happiest day---today----I have purchased a new top load machine---and it is NOT a GE product. I will donate the current machine----maybe someone else can get it to work better.

My GE front load WCVH6 model has been bad since day 1 . never has stayed level , the mold has been bad smelly cloths . But I think the worst was last night when my husband saw smoke coming from the laundry area . We turned it off and opened the doors and windows to clear the smoke , then opened the machine and smoke poured out all of my cloths smokey. Just think if we would have left the house to go out for dinner. our home could have caught fire and my little dogs could have been killed. No problems
by: Frieda Nugen

I have had this washer because a friend recommended it, and I haven't regretted it. This year will be beginning the 4th year.

I had balance problems to begin with but it was found that some stabilizers were not removed when it was installed. I have always made sure to have both small and large items and large loads almost never become unbalanced; however, if I try to only wash a few slacks, jeans, towels without adding smaller items at least half full, yes, THOSE will unbalance... simple fix for me is load the thing a lot and make sure there are ample smaller items to redistribute.

I only close the door unused if the previous load was a bleach load. Since I mostly leave a towel over the door to allow air in there as advised on other washer forums, I have never had a smell at all.

I can get whites clean without bleach thanks to the water heater in the washer.. I only use the bleach to be sure they are disinfected more, but it's probably not necessary.

I've had one towel and one washcloth tear in 4 years, but I'm not sure it wasn't because there was a stray thread that pulled... I now check my clothes closer due to this washer, but haven't had any wearable clothes damaged.

I may have problems tomorrow, but I hate that many have had problems. There are always bad machines, and I never ever plan to go back to a top loader.

This is amazing. I feel like I wrote all of the posts. We have owned this machine for 5 years. It shredded so many clothes called that I called repairman to come out and look at it. He told me that this happens all the time, then ran a test cycle and said there was nothing wrong with the unit. I wanted ge to replace the unit however the repairman changed his tune and said he never told me that the shredding of clothes happens all the time and would not write it in his report.

He then told me, that i should buy a garment bag to wash my clothes in. The items that were shredded were all different type of garments, so I proceeded to ask this smart ass if i was supposed to put all my clothes in garment bag why the machine didn't come with one. Of course he didn't have an answer.

For the clothes coming out wet, I got that too. GE you suck.

I didn't realize this right off due to the fact that when I do laundry I must keep the bathroom door closed due to the ridiculous amount of noise it generates. So now this machine has ruined clothing, damaged my floor, smoked out the house and finally flooded a portion of my first floor! I am a single mother unable to replace this 2.5 year old product. Washer needs to be recalled!
by: Anonymous

It’s amazing that the GE repair guy keeps telling me that this is the first time he has seen the exact trouble that almost every one on this site has experienced! This will be the third or fourth time we have called for repair in 3 years. I was told we can not wash more than a few towels and definitely can not wash a blanket or comforter because that exceeds the capacity of the machine, yet GE’s own product literature states that the machine’s KING SIZE CAPACITY is specifically designed to wash things like a comforter. We have an extended warranty for ours; I will call them every month if I have to now. I’m so sick and tired of being told we are using the machine incorrectly. GE has lost my future business.

Piece of Junk
by: Anonymous

WOW! All these comments describe exactly what our GE washing machine (Model WCVH6600HWW) is like. Here is our issues:

-Always goes off balance (if you have a load of towels or other bulky items, mind as well set the machine to "no spin")

-The washer moves several inches during the spin cycle and has to be pushed back into place after EVERY load of laundry is finished

-Makes loud clunking noice or sometimes a creaking noise when in the spin cycle

-Smells extremely bad after after a while (found mold growing in between the door gasket, bleached it and removed it, only to find out it returned a month or so later)

-We had a GE serviceman come out and look at the machine, and he could not find anything wrong with it

After two years of dealing with this, we can't take it anymore. We will be taking this machine to the dump and buying a new non-GE washing machine. This is by far the worst washer I have ever owned or used. GE should recall this model or refund the entire purchase price. What a piece of junk! I will never buy any GE appliance products ever again.

Concur, concur, concur! It's like I wrote these comments myself. The unbalanced loads, the soaking clothes, the ripped/shredded clothers... and yes the multiple repairs. GE actually replaced the basin once because it was "out of round" -- according to the repair tech this had to be a defect at the time of purchase. Well basin #2 must have had the same "defect." We're actually getting rid of this thing and trying to decide whether to sell it cheap, give it away, or let Best Buy haul it away when they deliver our new washer and dryer next week. I'll add that we have all GE appliances in our kitchen as well -- the water line of the frig has frozen more than once and even with the heater GE installed to "fix" the problem, and the dishwasher cleans average at best. I have to rewash a couple dishes from every load. I don't know what happened to GE, but we will not buy an GE products again.

Had a similar issue with our front load washer - smoking when it spinned, loud bumping sounds and machine jumping around. After a number of on site visits and finally demonstration of the smoking in action during the last repair visit, technician diagnosed problem as an irregular shaped washer drum which caused rubbing on front rubber seal resulting in smoke. I work on washers & dryers and sell them to people who don't have money to buy new ones. I prefer the older ones cheaper more reliable. If an old machine looks pretty good it is worth fixing. The parts are cheaper and a lot of the work you can do yourself if mecanicly inclined.

I can sell a lot of machines for a $100.00 sometimes less. I had a lady tell me she had a newer Whirlpool it went down she called the appliance store where she bought it. They charged her $65.00 to go to her house. The parts were to be $300.00 plus labor over $400.00. I sold her an older Whirlpool for $100.00 it worked fine. She is very happy with the machine and saved over $300.00.

Our washing machine is horrible. We have the exact same GE front loader and we have had 4 service calls in one year. First off the machine doesn't clean worth anything! The machine quit working all together in the first year, so they replaced it after the 3rd service call. But we continued to have problems. It has no setting for a spin cycle, and 50% of the time the laundry comes out soaking wet, so you have o wait 20 minutes while it runs a rinse cycle. Finally one evening our machine started smoking, filled our whole house. It turns out the rubber gasket got lose and grated against the bin. Even though the gasket is grated down and burned in several locations, GE does not want to replace it, they said the machine runs with the gasket is is! Don't waste your money.

We purchased our GE front loader in Oct 07 (not cheap). We had been warned that there were vibration problems and that the machine might seem loud. We were prepared for this. What we weren't prepared for was the service tech's estimate that it would cost approx $600 to replace a bearing. And this was after he charged $80 just to look at the machine. And yes this is a authorized repair facility. I'm tossing this machine in the dump and going back to the good old reliable top loader. They're faster, cheaper and more reliable in my experience.

Bang Bang Bang...
by: Anonymous

This washer bites!!! Constantly it is unbalanced during the spin cycles. The washer senses the unbalance and never goes into high spin but has no clue what to do about it. So it just does exactly what it did before and repeats the load bang-bang-bang. You get so fizzed off every time you here it go into this loud (and it is loud) banging session that you pray for it to blow up so you can buy a new (non-GE) washer. Your first clue if you weren’t around to hear the bang sessions is you go to move the load to your dryer and the load has gallons of water left in it. So, back to run the Spin again cycle. It bites it really does. Sad part is, GE knows this fact and does nothing to remedy it. Profits I guess are more important to this six sigma company than quality. FYI GE - take care of the quality first and you’ll get your profits.
