A few eco friendly laundry tips I use

With the prices going up in nearly all areas of our lives these days, it's always a good idea to conserve energy, and thus save money in everything we do. That includes doing the laundry.

I always clean out the lint trap after every single load I dry. Not to do so is just going to create more work for the machine and take more energy. It's also safer because there is more air circulation to prevent overheating of the dryer.

Something else I do is to use cold water at all times, unless something is particularly dirty. What I do is save all the really soiled items and do them in a separate load so I can just use hot water on the clothes that really need it to get clean.

Other clothes that are just worn on a daily basis will get just as clean using cold water, thus saving your money on your utility bill.

Excellent Advice
by: Anonymous

These are really great tips. I have always used cold water to wash most of my laundry - as pointed out above, it does a perfectly good job of cleaning clothes unless they are really soiled. I actually also don't even use a dryer and instead I hang dry my clothes to further conserve energy.

Great suggestions
by: Anonymous

I try to wash most things in the cold cycle. With the high efficiency washer/dryers there's very few times I need to resort to warmer settings. Aside from cleaning the lint trap, I would also suggest cleaning the vent and hose that leads to it and also sweeping around the dryer motor. I just blew my thermal board because it never crossed my mind to do either of those things.

Very good hints
by: Anonymous

Very good hints and very easy to do too. I have also been washing my clothes in cold water this summer. And I try to use the low heat on the dryer too, when I can. I am so much more energy-aware than I used to be since rising prices! I knew a lady who forgot to clean out her lint trap and her dryer almost burned up. Her repairman had to teach her to do it everyday!
