Whirpool Duet Gas Dryer

by Claire
(Eugene, OR)

About one and a half year ago we were in the market for a new washer and dryer, and at the recommendation of the builder of our new home, we got a Whirlpool Duet set (he uses them too, and built the laundry room for the Duet with storage drawer).

The washer is sleek and modern looking with a door that opens at the front. The interior is simply a hollow drum, and does not have an old fashioned paddle in the middle like most top loading machines, which means that your clothes will be better protected and will be subject to less wear.

One of the greatest features is that this machine uses High Efficiency detergent. Now, I haven't actually calculated whether or not this is less expensive than regular detergent, but you really need only a small amount of detergent for a whole load. In addition, you no longer have to store a big bulky box or bottle of detergent, because less = more.

We did have the washer break down once already though. 13 months after we purchased it, the washer stopped draining, and we could not get our clothes out.

We called Whirlpool, and even though our warranty had run out, they said that it was still close enough to the original that they would come repair it for free.

It took about 10 days for someone to come out unfortunately, but they quickly fixed it, and said it was a clogging problem in the tube through which used water goes out.

We've had no problems with it since, and I highly recommend this washer!

Many options
by: Anonymous

Pros:
- Easily increase time left for drying without stopping and restarting the dryer
- Has a great air dry feature

Cons:
- Sometimes finishes drying when the clothes are still wet
- Already had to replace the belt once

I've had this dryer for approximately 3 years. This dryer was a great upgrade since my previous dryer which was from the 1980's.

It comes in a wide variety of colors. When I purchased mine the options were orange, red, silver, white, black or blue. One of the great features is that there are a lot of drying options ranging from bulky/bedding to air dry.

I love using the air dry feature when I have clothes that cannot be placed in the dryer and I need them soon and don’t have the time to wait for them to air dry on a clothing line.

The dryer also has a display which tells you whether if the clothes are wet, damp or dry, so you know you know what stage the drying is at and the amount of time there is left.

Yet, honestly I never look at this display, I just add more time to the dryer if I think the clothes are not dry yet. You can also change the level of heat the clothing is being dryer with, ranging from hot to extra low and air dry while the dryer is running.

So you don’t have to stop and restart the dryer. I feel like this drying has a lot of options and I would definitely buy it again.
