The three bears had porridge that wasn’t too hot or too cold but just right similar to the temperature in this top-load washer is just right when you select the comprehensive Care-Control system. The Xtra-Roll Action-Plus agitator is doubly effective at circulating your washing throughout the wash basket. How does this washer stand out? »
This is the cheapest model Whirlpool offers. Although paying 50 dollars more for the energy star qualified version will actually save you money over the long run.
In 5 years of normal use the WTW4800XQ will use $250 dollars of electricity with an electric water heater. However the WTW4850XQ in 5 years will only use $75 dollars, which means a saving of $175 dollars. That is why we recommend upgrading to the energy star equivalent, the WTW4850XQ
Consumer Opinions »
Pros “a real work horse” “water level covers the clothes” “really glad it has an unlock lid” “quiet while spinning”
Cons “easily goes out of balance” “not quiet” “no soak feature” “don’t make things how they used too” “long wash cycles” “bad engineering”
It's great to have clean clothes again! by: Anonymous
After 4 frustrating years, we scrapped a GE high efficiency model and went back to a conventional washer with few frills. HE is a great concept but doesn't seem to be truly ready for the market. It takes WATER to get clothes clean, plain and simple. GE appliances are just plain junk. After a couple dozen uses, we are very happy with this Whirlpool model. Yeah it's a little louder than the HE (which was its only redeeming quality) but quieter than traditional models from years past. I like to think that by stripping away many of the fancy electronics, we'll get a more reliable machine in the end. Bottom line, it's great to have clean fresh smelling clothes and towels again. Great price and installation from Lowes. Highly recommend.

Loudest and slowest washer ever used ! by: Anonymous
In my opinion that is the loudest, slowest washer I have ever used. The directions indicate that noise will be heard as it shifts from one portion of a cycle to another. They don't mention how very loud it is. Owned washing machines for 55 years, and think this is the worse, noisest ever!!!

Just not worth it ! by: Frank D
This is a standard top load washing machine and one of the few around with a standard agitator inside of it. It cost us $360. Everyone selling washing machines and your standard consumer magazines, all berate the standard washers-- less energy efficient, less environmentally friendly, blah, blah, blah. Well, we'd be damned if we were going to pay $1200 or $1500 for a front loading, latest model, "environmentally friendly" washer. That is nuts. The only people I can believe are interested are the 30 something yuppies who are all show and no substance. You know the ones-- who drive the giant SUVs and claim to be doing something for the environment. Hog wash!!! We are empty-nesters and my feeling was that if the machine last 10 years, that is what I expect. If it only lasts 5 years, I can still buy 3 or 4 of these for the price on one SUV washer at $1500. Now, we have been using this washer for nearly 6 months and it has worked perfectly. Cleans well and does everything our old washer did plus it automatically measures the correct amount of water for the load. What more could you want? Does it have a couple of drawbacks? Yes. Once you start up the machine, the lid locks so if you forgot to put something in the washer, you have to go through a few steps to put it in with the current load. It does seem to run slightly longer than our old washer. The biggest drawback (and this isn't really a drawback) is that it makes an assortment of electronic like noises when it is operating. In other words, it doesn't sound exactly like the old standard washers. One of the other drivers for us was that the new front loading washers are much bigger than the old standards. Quite frankly, by size, they did not fit well into our laundry room and our house was built in 1995. The WTW4800 has the same foot print as the old style washers and I certainly hope that Whirlpool continues to make these traditional machines. No way do I want to pay triple or quadruple the price for a washer. Just give me functionally, nothing fancy please. The WTW4800 fits that bill. Don't waste your hard-earned money on these frivilous new machines-- just not worth it!!!

Delighted by: Anonymous
I am delighted with my purchace as I can even use it when my children are asleep and it doesn’t disturb them either. My clothes come out nice and clean. The one no, is that the agitator can get clogged up with dirt from the washing which is a problem as it has to be cleaned out, but otherwise I am very happy with it.

Easy to use by: Anonymous
This is an easy to use washer and I like the controls. It fitted in with my budget too so I am more than satisified. Has a great range of washing cycles too.
This is a good size for my need and it does not vibrate too much and as I live in a flat, that is a plus. Overall I am happy with this model and the control panel is simple to use
