Whirlpool Duet Front Load GHW9400P

GHW9400PL4

GHW9400PL4

We bought the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer, as well as the added stands, over a year ago. I am very happy with the way it washes the clothes and with the amount of water we save now, compared with the old top loader we used to use.

However, there are some down sides to this washer and dryer. They take a long time to wash and dry. Forty minutes to wash, and about an hour to dry. When we first purchased the dryer, it was drying our clothes in 30 minutes but as time goes on it's drying capability lessens. I have cleaned out the vents and the lint trap, I have no idea why it is not performing as well. I have heard people saying that they use regular detergent in this machine, but the one time I tried that I got an error message and a washer full of suds even though I only used about two tablespoons of detergent. So now I am careful to only use HE labeled detergent. Also, the rubber seal on the door just tore. The washer now leaks, so we will have to purchase a new rubber seal which seems to cost around a hundred dollars. Upon researching this, I have found this is a common complaint for this model washer.

All in all, I am pleased with this washer and dryer despite it's bad points. It uses less water and detergent than a top loader and it seems to get the clothes cleaner. It also can handle much larger loads than a regular washer, easily fitting a king sized comforter and sheets or up to 16 pairs of jeans at the same time.
