whirlpool cabrio

by GrayLadyIce

A few months ago, I was having a conversation with a friend and mentioned how tired I was of having to lug my laundry to a laundry mat all the time. She suggested getting my own washer. Specifically a Whirlpool washer.

I knew this would be a good idea. So I shopped around until I found the Whirlpool Cabrio HE washer. I couldn't wait to try it out.

I didn't really expect the washer to perform that much differently than the washers at the laundry mat. Imagine my surprise when the first load came out and all my white socks were so much cleaner than what I was used to seeing! This was a fantastic surprise for me.

Especially since I hadn't even changed my detergent, but my clothes were alot better than when I went to the laundrymat. And they smelled better too! I went wild with doing the laundry that day.

I washed all my clothes, the bedding, the towels, everything! No matter what I put in the washer, it came out better looking than when it went in.

Even my husband's greasy dirt stained clothes from work were coming out cleaner. This washing machine has been a great compliment to our house and I plan to keep it until it can no longer function.

All i want to say is BEWARE
by: Dana

I want customers to be aware of many things about the whirlpool cabrio washer and dryer. The washer says it will hold large loads but be prepared for it to be unbalanced often - especially when washing blankets. It spins the clothes very fast so also be prepared to iron almost everything that it washes.

Its cycles are very long so if you have small loads of speciality clothes that need to be washed alone be ready to spend many hours on the weekend washing. I am very unhappy with this washer. The dryer...we have had serviced 3 times and it is not even 4 months old. Each time they are able to fix it but it is a pain scheduling the repairs when they only give 3 hour windows to wait for the repair man. My biggest complaint...It sounds like a "FREIGHT TRAIN".

It is unbelievably loud...service says that is normal but there is no way a new dryer should sound like this. I purchased this set from Best Buy...It started being extremely loud the second month I owned it and they would not do anything about it. Best Buy said they will exchange in 30 days only..so don't purchase there thinking they will stand behind the products they sell they will NOT.

Not even if it is under 60 days old, has been serviced 3 times and they still didn't care about customer satisfaction and wouldn't do anything about it. Guess that is what I get from purchasing from a big company that does not care about customer satisfaction.

I am extremely unhappy with Best Buy and The Cabrio set...Please consider this before purchasing this set. If I had read a review like this before I purchased this set I would have thought twice. "CUSTOMER BEWARE"

Mine broke too.
by: Anonymous

My washer broke after about 18-20 months also. Something went out and it would not work. Washing machine repair man fixed then somehting else broke. very frustrating since it was so expensive.

it works now -- after a 300 repair bill. But the repair man told me a lot of these washers had that same part broken. I am not buying another whirlpool

Broken after 19 Months
by: Anonymous

While it worked, I loved my whirlpool, but the start button on the control panel just broke after 19 months of moderate use. The manufacturers warranty is only good for 1 year. If you plan on getting one, I suggest buying extra warranty.

Not lasting long enough
by: Charles Jeffrey

We bought a Cabrio in November, 2006. My wife and I are retired, so we use the machine a moderate amount during the winter months--6 months a year. We just had to replace the computer control for the machine, at a cost of $325. So this happened after only 18 months of moderate usage. RIDICULOUS! Stay away from Whirlpool washers!

Worth the money my Cabrio washer and dryer
by: Anonymous

I purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio Washer and Dryer as a set when my Maytag dryer died. Since I didn't want almond-colored appliances again, I needed to replace both machines. I love front-loaders; the efficiency, speed, reduced use of water.

Unfortunately, my laundry room is incredibly small, and the Whirlpool Duets are enormous. There was no way I could fit them in the room. So, I considered the Cabrio, as they are slightly smaller and are also high-efficiency. I checked them out online and in-store. I loved them!

They have many wash and dry cycles, and are very electronic compared to my previous machines. We had a little trouble getting them installed as my laundry room, as I've mentioned, is very small. I only measured the washer, not imagining the dryer would be a different size.

But, surprise, surprise, the dryer is larger than the washer. I suppose this is common, but you live and learn. So, my husband ended up moving the dryer vent from the floor to the wall and redirecting it outside. The gas pipe also needed to be moved to make as much room as possible for the machines. Even with all the effort, I still have about 1/2" clearance for the door.

Anyway, all that effort was totally worth it! I absolutely love these machines! You can fit three small laundry baskets of clothes into the washer and the dryer. The washer has plates that kind of rise and shift, and that's how it cleans your clothes. I sat with my kids and watched a whole cycle, as the top of the washer is see-through. There is normal cycle, delicate, bulky, whites, soak, spin, just a ton of options. You can adjust the loudness of the bell that rings when it's finished.

There is a timer that counts down the wash which is very convenient and something new for me. It has done a fabulous hob of cleaning clothes. The dryer also has options: timed dry, more or less dry, perm press, fluff, etc. It is also huge inside!

We got the black, but I saw they just came out with silver, which is really nice. The black is a little hard to keep clean, especially when the lint trap is on the top of the dryer. Whenever you clean it, remnants drop onto the top of the dryer and you need to wipe it off. Not a big deal, but I don't think the silver would show as much.

Totally worth the money, (around $2000 for the set)!

Whirlpool Cabrio
by: Anonymous

The Cabrio washing machine is horrible! I kept getting the F51 error message, having to stop the cycle, redistribute heavy towels, clothes, etc., then put it back on. I'd have to do that about 10X per load...very aggravating!
I lucked out, so I thought, received a notice from Whirlpool that I could purchase extended warranty on this, so I did--even though I never believed in extended warranties. So, I purchased it for the washer, dryer and 2 other Whirlpool appliances. The inside salesperson gave me an effective, over one month later than the date listed on the paperwork. She checked into it, kept me on hold, said no problem, they could give me the date the paperwork had on it. She said I may get my contracts with the later date on them, not to worry (??? I thought). I called when contracts came w/the wrong date, the next person said not to worry, they'd send new contracts within 2 weeks and call re having serviceperson come out for this.
Well, today a "Supervisor" called, saying the date couldn't be the date listed on the paperwork originally sent by Whirlpool, but the later one.
Well, this lack of communication and commitment to Customer Satisfaction goes along with the piece of crap they call a washing machine..Whirlpool says one thing, does another. The sad thing is it seems no matter what company you purchase from there are problems.
I just want to get this thing fixed, get rid of it. I don't like the way things are so wrinkled when they come out of this...terrible! Give me the "old style" washing machine. This does not work well. Don't buy any Cabrio model! You will truthfully be sorry.
My dog barks when the washer goes thru the spin cycle, I call it the jet plane taking off in our house--gosh, it's terribly noisy! That just started about a month ago.
Remember--DO NOT BUY A Cabrio -- you will be sorry if you do!

HERE COMES THE FLOOD
by: Lisa

I bought my cabrio 2 years ago, lucky me I bought the warranty.I have had them out here at least 7 times. One time it took them a month to get the
part, they tell me that even lint can break the
machine. I had a flood with it the last time and
now it has been working for 2 weeks but I saw a little water in the laundry room which usually means it is going. Last year they sent me $50.00
for the laundromat. I can't believe it I spent like $1900.00 for the washer and dryer and waited
almost 15 years and now I have a piece of crap.

Who will fix it?
by: Terry

It leaked all over the floor and into the cellar.
Who will fix it? According to the consumer reviews, whirlpool is not overly sympathetic as far as repairing the machine and many service people do not want to work on this machine repair

Does tend to wrinkle
by: Kim

I was very excited when I was able to purchase the Whirlpool Cabrio as it is supposed to be more efficient in washing clothes, use less water and allow us to wash larger loads at one time.

I love having all the different settings and the different cycles that I am able to use on it. It has a clean washer cycle which I really like as well.

I have found that it does indeed use less water than my old washer did and I do get about 1 1/2 loads compared to the amount that I could wash in my old washer.

I do feel that it spins more water out of the clothes than my old washer did as well. The way you add your detergent and fabric softener are very easy as well as the bleach dispenser and its great to be able to add everything at the start of the load as well.

I do have a couple of issues with the washer however that have made me be very concerned. We started getting an F-51 code error that makes it hard to get the washer to go through the cycle. After contacting Whirlpool and talking to a technician, we still continue to have issues with this from time to time.

It is very aggravating to say the least to have to go reset the cycle at least 3 times each time you wash a load.

It does tend to really wrinkle up things like jeans as well and if you do not shake them out before you dry them you get really wrinkled pants that are hard to deal with.

High tech and stylish
by: David

I have the Whirlpool Cabrio. This is the most high tech washer I have ever used. I can not say much for the price because it came with the rental I am currently in. But I did decide to sell the washer I had in storage and get one of these when I get a new house.

There is a dispenser that the liquid detergent is poured into and then the washer auto dipenses it with the water. The machine detects the load size and fills to the appropriate level. There is also a bleach and fabric softener dispenser. Once you start the machine you walk away until it is done.

The machine is one of the quietest washer I have used. It is in a room right off of my kitchen and I will usually have to open the door to hear if it is running or not.

One of the other things I liked is there is no plastic structure in the missle of the basin. This makes it much easier to load the machine and it always remains balanced. This also makes this washer excellent for washing blankets and other larger items that I used to have to go to a laundrymat to have cleaned.

There are numerous setting on the dial including one for bulky items. Then there are soil selevtors as well so if something is really dirty it will agitate the load a little longer. There is a lid lock that engages once the laod has been started. This will keep anything from inadvertantly being added to the load.

Load times vary on what selection are made. I am in the Army and often have very soiled clothes and a heavy load with heavy soil still takes under an hour to wash on the colors setting. The spin cycle is super fast and gets alot of the water out which will reduce the drying time also.

The black color is rather stylish and the washer would not look out of place in a garage for those that do not have seperate washrooms.

The load size it is capable of washing is very generous. With that being said you would want to be sure and have the matching dryer. That would ensure being able to dry the whole load you just washed.

Power consumption is reasonably low. And with the auto load size detector it never uses more water than it needs so the washer is great on utilities.

Overall I give this washer a 9 out of 10.

Hate my cabrio
by: Anonymous

I have had this washer for a year and I absolutely hate it. I like being able to wash comforters and blankets, but don't feel that it cleans very well. I used to wash my kids canvas tennis shoes and my small rugs in my agitator machine and they would come out very clean. In the Cabrio they come out just as dirty as they went in. My glass top broke yesterday, which cost $150 to replace and is not covered under my extended warranty.

by: Nancy J.

One star is the lowest rating or I would have used no stars. This machine knots all our clothes together. The arms and legs are tied in knots and they are hard to get out. Then the wrinkles are so set in they will not come out. And the glass top, who wants to watch the stupid clothes spin.

Great purchase
by: Anonymous

Overall Great Washer.

With a new born, we were looking for a large capacity washer that would be extra effecient.

We went to the local appliance store and looked around. They recommended this set (washer and dryer) for exactly the two needs we were looking for.

They only had the glass top in stick (which is extra) and after getting them agree to sell it for the same price, we were good to go.

I do not think the glass top is worth the extra $100, as the novelty of watching it go round and round wears off after 15 minutes.

So far we have had not problems. Even though it is extra large, it can still go off balance with a comforter and a few towels going. The system auto shuts down instead of banging though. Just adjust the weight and it works fine.

We were looking for long term durability and the direct drive transmission seemed better then a belt. Basically it is a front loading washer, upright. this worked better for my wife instead on bending over to load.

Overall, great purchase - plus got for 12 months no interest. It came with 2 years free detergent, which I thought was a hoax. We filled out the paperwork and sure enough the book of free coupons came shortly.

Dream Machine !
by: Anonymous

This washing machine was the one of my dreams. It was advertised as time and energy saving. For the first year, it washed 9 pairs of jeans, or 10 towels, or a huge load of whites all at once, and everything came out perfectly clean. The washer was extremely quiet overall, except during the spin cycle, but even that noise was not bad. Well, that was for the first year…then it sprang a leak and poured water on to the floor. Once that was fixed, I thought my troubles were over; however, this is not the case. As

it turns out the entire inside of the washer cabinet is unpainted and has completely rusted. If I am not careful, and any part of a piece of clothing touches the edge of the machine, it gets rust on the clothes.

I can no longer wash 10 towels at once either, I can only do about four at a time, and even then, I have to rinse them at least twice in order to get the soap out. The washer has also lost its charm in the noise department. It makes a lot of racket during the wash cycle and sounds like there is a helicopter landing inside the house during the spin cycle.

didn't last long

Only lasted 15 months. $800.00 Down the drain.
Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6400SWO Washer. The technology and parts are cheap, the machine is super expensive.
Buy cheaper products because you have to replace them within a 2 years. I feel ripped off!

Also Kenmore Elite product are garbage. We bought the 07 dishwasher, after 6 months it does not clean anything. Top of the line product are garbage.

Huge Tub
by: Anonymous

We recently bought this washer (November 08). This washer has a huge tub and is the washer without the agitator. It washes twice the amount of clothes and uses the same amount of water as my old washer. Its very quiet and easy to use. The only thing I dislike is having to use the high efficiency laundry detergent.

great machine until the manufacters warranty is up!
by: Jim

We loved our machine in the beginning..3 days after the manufactuer's warranty was up it stopped working...thank goodness we had an extended warranty (we thought)...we called to have it fixed..it has taken over a month for them to come and fix it...they came,(afte MANY phone calls to the repar department!), claimed it was now working properly, a load was put in after the repair man left and it was in fact STILL BROKEN!!! we called to have them come back and they said they won't be able to get back for another 5 days!! no apologies or empathy was given for the situation we have been placed in trying to get this problem fixed..and after reading other reviews about this washing machine, it seems a lot of customers who have bought this type of washing machine are finding the machine breaks down after a year...i will advise anyone i can to NOT purchase the whirlpool cabrio and stick with older technology until they can work the bugs out with this machine, as good customer service is very hard to come buy when it breaks down!

i am very dissatisfied with this product and its repair department...

Upset with Customer service
by: Lisa O.

We purchased our washing machine one year ago..it broke down over a month ago..we have been calling daily to have it repaired...repair company always stalling or giving us false estimated dates of repair...they FINALLY came yesterday..(one month and 5 days after our initial phone call to them...they worked on it, said it was repaired...i put in a load to wash and sure enough it WAS NOT repaired!!! same problem...

we called, they said they would send the repair tech back in 4 days! who knows how long it will take this time...we have spent well over $100.00 in a laundry mat in the last month...and our machine is under extended warranty!!! i am very upset with this company...they don't seem to want to help people who have invested a lot of money in buying the whirlpool products...

i will follow up in the near future with how long it takes to AGAIN come out and fix our machine and if it actually works...

Vibrates very hard

The washing machine works very well. We have never really had a problem with it. It does tend to vibrate very hard during spin cycle. It will dance a little and bump into the dryer. But it’s not overly noisy. It doesn’t leak or do anything else to annoy or concern us.

Quiet and energy efficient
by: Anonymous

I own a White Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine. I would rate it a 5. I bought the machine used but it still looks like new. The previous owners were upgrading to a front load washer. The washer I bought is a top loader. I have never had any problems with the machine, and neither did the previous owners. I runs very quiet and is energy efficient. It is so easy to use that my children actually ask to do their own laundry. The machine thoroughly cleans all types of soiled clothing without damaging the clothes. From the heaviest of denims to the most delicate fabrics, from big loads to small loads, I completely trust this machine to do a great job.

See you clothes with clear top lid
by: Tonya

I recently purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio washer. So far, I absolutely love it! The price for it is pretty steep, but I think that so far it's been worth it. I have the matching dryer as well. It's very high tech compared to my old washer. I love the way it looks!

I purchased a matching white pair with a clear top lid on the washer so you can see your clothes being washed. It has a start button along with an led digital display timer so I can see how long my load is going to take. It also has a separate button for "whitest whites" which is awesome, it gets my clothes a lot more sparkling white than just using bleach. It is a quiet washer, but for the price I paid it could have been more quiet.

The only thing I wasn't used to with this washer was using high efficiency soap. A lot of brands don't my high efficiency soap so you can't really be picky on which scent or brand you want, but it's not too big of a deal since I'm getting more water use out of the washer.

It's energy star rated and I look for that in all of my appliances now. I also really liked that I could fit quite a bit of my clothes in.It didn't have the large thing in the middle, so I could easily fit a lot more clothes into the washer. It easily fit my bedding into one load, instead of having to do separate loads for each piece of bedding.

My favorite part about it is definitely the controls. They are very user-friendly and have more controls to offer than most washer and dryers. I also like that the washer has a security lock on it just in case little hands want to grab the top and decided to jump in!

The only mechanical problem I have ever had with this washer was with the electric timers. One day the washer just froze up and stopped working. The display flashed for a few minutes while I tried to figure out what was going on, but then shut off. I thankfully had this under warranty or this would have costed me a good $500.00.

Hopefully this is the only mechanical problem I will have with it because I enjoy it. Some of my friends that own the same one have had more problems than I have, so hopefully nothing else will go wrong. I have heard a lot of bad reviews but I have yet to experience most of what people are saying.

I enjoy the free time it gives me from doing less loads of laundry every week. So far it looks great and has only had one small problem.
