Use Ammonia to Boost Detergent Cleaning Power

by Lynda G
(Maine)

Ammonia may smell bad, but it's great to add to laundry. It freshens, removes bad odors like fishing ickies, barn odors. It boosts the cleaning power of your detergent so you don't need to use as much.

It brightens, removes some stains and grease spots. I've never been sure if ammonia would spot so I add a cup to a quart of so of water and add to washer. Never had any spotting and once dry the clothes smell nice and fresh.

Question about ammonia
by: Man Cave Transition-Bill

Do I add the yellow ammonia to the fabric softener dispencer or the liquid bleach dispencer? I know I don't mix bleach with ammonia. What about white vineger? I am a 32 year old batchelor trying to change his man cave into a house suitable for marriage. Learning how to fold towels, etc.

I've tried cooking my towels with bleach/detergent, but they still smell ransid...do I have to throw them away?

Ammonia also removes bluing stains
by: Anonymous

If you use bluing liquid to whiten your whites, you may have experienced occasional stains where the bluing contacted fabric before it was fully diluted. An ammonia soak will remove those stains, and ready your garment for rewashing.
