Tesco Value IR08 Steam Iron

by Jon

OK, let's sort out what this isn't. This isn't a top-of-the-range iron, it's not got a great water capacity, it's not large, it's not particularly heavy and it's not that powerful (1300W).

All that said, I'm a university student. I don't have a family, and I only really have to iron shirts. So for my needs, it's brilliant. Add in the fact that it cost less than £5 to buy, and you're onto a winner.

I've had no real complaints with this product. The water capacity is small, but it's more than adequate for a few shirts or a pair of suit trousers. And the sole-plate isn't that big, but again, that suits me too because I've not got that much storage space in my room.

I'm also impressed by that fact that it's survived my mistreatment over the course of three years, without breaking in any way. I'd bought this iron expecting that as soon as the warranty ran out, it would break and I'd have to buy a new one. But surprisingly (especially considering how cheap it was!), it's still going strong. If it did break, I'd have no problem going out and buying the same thing again.

Given that it's not that powerful, I'd also expected it would take ages to warm up. But the smaller, lighter sole-plate compensates for this lack of power, and there's not too long to wait.

So, to sum up, this iron suits me down to the ground. Most of my friends have the same model, and an informal poll says that they like theirs too. Obviously, given the price, you shouldn't expect too much from this iron. And if you need to do bed linen or curtains or something like that, then I wouldn't recommend this to you. But for light use, this is near perfect.
