When our old, busted, hand-me-down dryer died a few years ago, we found ourselves in the predicament of needing a new clothes dryer. Having never shopped for a dryer, we did not know where to begin. We knew we had a very small budget and also that we needed to have it delivered, due to having a compact car.

After doing research via Consumer Reports magazine, we discovered that the most reliable dryer on the market in our price range ($200-$300) was a Roper brand. Roper is the bottom of the line brand made by Whirlpool and Whirlpool gets consistently high marks by Consumer Reports. We were able to find a dryer by Roper locally that fit our budget and needs and were able to get it delivered for free!

The dryer itself is nothing special. Its missing all the bells and whistles of most dryers in today's market, but that is just fine with us. There are no digital parts to break and little to no computer parts to speak of. It has three manual knobs that are straight forwardly labeled and offers an "energy preferred" setting as well as two other dryer settings, timed dry and no heat/fluff. It offers three heat levels and buzzer on or off settings to indicate when the cycle is finished.

I would recommend this dryer to anyone who just wants something to get the job done. We have had this dryer since 2002 and have had no issues of any kind with it. I would happily buy it again.
