Reduce Frequency of Washing Clothes

by Florence Marafatsos
(Round Lake Beach, IL, USA)

If you want to help save the environment and reduce your utility bills in the process, why not ask yourself a simple question. Do the clothes you are putting in the wash realy need cleaning? We live in a fast paced society and surely it's easy enough to "quickly change" an outfit and toss it in the laundry basket.

Some items that can be worn at least 2 times before washing are jeans, shorts, pants, jackets and "hoodies". Plus, don't forget the bath towel! Pick it up off the floor and it air dry for use the next day.

Great Ideas on Workout Clothes!
by: Joanie

Wow, those are awesome ideas about wearing clothes more than once. I do that myself...if I haven't gotten sweaty or anything, I will definitely wear the same shirt and jeans twice in a row as I'm at home anyway. However, I never thought about the workout clothes. After my workout shorts dry, I could definitely wear them to workout again.

good tip!

I don't wear T-shirts and I wear a jumper so people think I'm wearing a T-shirt. I wear my jumper and jeans for several days in a row because providing you don't do anything messy, they don't look dirty.

You have to change your underwear every day though.

Towels don't have to be washed every time you use them - I use mine about three times, you just leave it in the room where the boiler is and it's dry for the next day.

Great Advice
by: Anonymous

Most people wear something once and them wash it. It's a waste of resources. I wear a nightgown 4-5 times before washing. Reuse the same towel for a week. Just hang to dry between uses. If the clothes do not look dirty or smell then they are not dirty. Wear it or use it again!

Workout clothes especially!
by: Anonymous

I think the best thing that I do is to "recycle" my workout clothes. I usually wear my T-shirt & workout shorts to bed but clean, of course. Then, the next day I wear them for my morning run and I end up washing half the clothes. Truthfully, I wear my PJs twice (I take a shower before bed) and wear my workout clothes twice too. Good tip for most people!
