Proctor-Silex 17610 Iron

by Angela F
(Huntington Beach, CA)

This iron is a good value for the price at under $40. It's a basic steam iron that will be sufficient for most people that iron occasionally.

I'm not a fan of ironing to begin with, so price was much more a concern than any advanced functionality. I've had no problems with it, and have used the steam function for cotton shirts and some curtains with good results.

My favorite feature is the retractable cord - it makes it so much easier to store! This inexpensive steam iron seems to work as well as some of the more pricier models like the Rowenta Advancer (that sells for $125-130)and is much lighter. For me, that's a big selling factor as I've had some issues with weak wrists and carpal tunnel.

The Proctor-Silex also has an auto-shutoff feature and cools down rather quickly. It's powerful enough to smooth out deep creases on heavier fabrics like denim, but also easily handles low-settings for delicate fabrics like silk or silk/polyester blends.

I can't really comment on its' long-term durability, as I've only had mine for just over a year, but should it fail to work, I have no problem buying the exact same model again.
