Organizing Your Bedroom

Organizing your bedroom can be essential because isn't it the master bedroom which often becomes the “dumping ground” when guests arrive! You sweep the house quickly and everything else that we don’t know what to do with ends up in that place. Out of sight out of mind is what we are thinking. As it stays there the pile accumulates and we don’t know what to do with it. Soon enough this “stuff” has taken control of the whole room.

First thing to do is to sort the homeless items to where they really belong. After you put them in boxes you should at least get them into their correct rooms. Think about putting them away later – you’ve made a start by getting them out of the master bedroom.

The master bedroom never seems to have the closet space you need. Have a look at potential new storage units you may get to see exactly what they have.

Sort the clothes by the season that you are in and then choose where you will put the out of season ones. Storage boxes under the bed can work wonders for these clothes.

When you’re trudging through the clothes put aside the ones which don’t fit. Decide if you still need them. If not you could donate them or even do a garage sale. I’m sure your find many clothes that you haven’t worn in the last year – think about if you will ever wear them in the future – are they just taking up unnecessary space! You will find this process freeing up a lot of space in the closet.

The top of the dressers can be another real trouble spot. We can leave things there for later, only to find that later doesn’t come! When you’ve cleared away the things that don’t belong in the bedroom, there shouldn’t be much left that requires sorting. It is now you may want to develop a good organizational system in order to keep things tidy from here on out.

To stay ahead of the muddle which gathers on the dresser make a decision what really needs to be there and in what way you want it organized. Baskets are a great idea to hold lotions and other things. Basic plastic boxes in your drawers are helpful to keep track tabs on small items which can get lost in all the socks!

Your bedroom should be your special haven. You’re sure to get sounder rest and a brighter beginning to the day when the environment is free from clutter and in order.

Organizing Kids Rooms

Organizing kids rooms may be one of the biggest challenges in the house when it comes to organizing and remaining organized. The children can be taught a system though which will make your job that much easier.

First thing to do is take an inventory of the room – have the kids help if they are old enough. Label some boxes for clothes which are too small or out of season and for toys (old, broken or incomplete). You can even make a game of it. Everyone has a box and then sees who can get their box full in the quickest time. Keeps this going till all things are sorted.

After this its time for organizing the kids toys. Plunge though the broken or missing toy box and decide if any are worth keeping. Can you find the missing pieces or can they be fixed. If not chuck them.

Next sort though the toys your child has grown out of. Decide with your kids what needs to be done with the old toys. They could be passed onto younger family members or donated to a charity shop. Children can be really bighearted when given the chance.

Now lastly there is the favorite box to go through. These items can be given a home in the playroom or bedroom.

Decide if you have enough storage in the rooms you have in mind when going through the favorite of the kids toys. Plastic storage bins are an excellent choice particularly the stackable ones which have drawers. They can be easily stored and the ones which have wheels can be simply wheeled out when the child feels like playing. Just store them in the closet when finished.

Tackling the clothing is the last thing to do when organizing kids rooms. Children seem to grow so quickly it good practice to go through their clothing at the start of every season. Choose together with you children what should be done with clothes they have grown out with, just as you did with the toys. Charity shops are ideal places to take these clothes and they will be very happy to have them.

Great space savers are the storage boxes under the bed – perfect for clothes out of season. You may have to spend some time on this when organizing kids closets.

As the seasons move on exchange what is kept under the bed with what is in the closet. As you do this you can quickly check and get rid of things which are now out grown. You could even designate a place for the children to put clothes which are too small.

Organizing kids rooms presents its own challenges but hopefully the children will learn something by helping. After you have finished organizing teach them to put things away when they have finished back in the cupboards. Hopefully they will get into a routine of tidying up after themselves.
