Money-saving Laundry Tips

by Debra
(Cocoa Beach, FL)

When washing laundry, wait until there is a full-load before running the machine or use a lower water setting.

Use the proper settings for the proper loads. Differences in the cycle length and heat can lead to excessive use of gas or electricity.

Be sure to remove clothes from the dryer during the first go-round. Restarting the load to fluff the laundry wastes gas or electricity.

Remove items that will be hung on hangers while they are just slightly damp. This will save power and allow any small wrinkles to "hang" out.

Going Green

I have been doing many of the things you mentioned for quite a while because I have wanted to save electricity. One that I never thought of was removing items that will be hung when they're still slightly damp - this will definitely save some electricity. Thank you for sharing your tips on saving electricity - I just hope that more people start using your tips!

Good Idea

I also do this. It really is a big waste of resouces to wash a small load and use a large load setting.Always use the proper size load setting.I am always telling my children who throw a few items in and never bother with the sdettings to take the time to change the settings. This is a very good tip.
