Miele touchronic washer

by C. V.
(Cupertino)

I have a house full of Miele products, dishwasher, doulbe ovens, warming drawer, etc.. This is the only Miele product that I would not recommend. The washing maching does clean well, but at a price. The inside plastic ring has to be wiped down after use, otherwise mold will form along with smelling up your clothes. There is always water left in the soap container- poor design.

The machine sound like a jet airplane landing when in the spin cycle. If you dont have a separate room with a door to close off the sound I would not recommend this machine. And the regular load takes well over an hour to finish. I have had the company out many times and they cant not do anything about the standing water and mold issue. Better to wait till they redesign this model.

The dryer is also loud. And the lint holder drops lint into a very deep pocket and you can not reach it to pull it out! The repair guy said to to buy a special tool and try to dig it out. Very poor design for a Germany engineering. I have had the pair for 1 year, live in Northern Calif, paid a fortune for them and would not buy them again.

Not as perfect as I had expected.
by: Patricia

The W4800 washing machine has made doing the laundry easier. I can wash small loads of separate colours and types of clothes without having to worry about our well running dry. The clothes always come out clean - even large loads. I've only used Tide and I have never had a problem. I do not have to scrub the really dirty stuff by hand first anymore. I love having a sanitize cycle. I am disappointed that our queen sized comforter barely fits in this washer that is supposed to be able to handle a king sized one. The machine was leaking from the front and the repair guy replaced the round inside seal with a new, improved one. I even saw the wash water seep in-between the glass in the door. That was scary. It was really frustrating and embarrassing to have such a good looking and expensive machine leak all over our carpeted laundry room floor. There are visible stains there now. Plus, when the washer leaked, the contents in the drawer below got soaked, too. The machine is noisy but we can shut the laundry room door. It seems that the shaking is necessary, but I think it is pretty excessive. I like the idea of having a ten year warranty, although I never expected I'd have to use it. It was pretty gross to see the grudge that was around the inside of the old seal after only a couple of years. I don't like the idea of my clothes washing around in that. The repair man knew that I had done 1578 loads of laundry and 15 of them had too much soap. I kind of feel that infringes on my privacy. I didn't realize how high the washer and dryer were or I wouldn't have got the matching pedestal drawers. It is probably easier on my back but it would be even easier if my children could reach and see the controls and they do the laundry. My husband and I both had some difficulty figuring out the controls. I washed everything on the two hour and one minute sanitize cycle for the longest time.

15+ Service Calls W4800
by: Anonymous

Brand New Machine. Not Working in "Sanitize Mode"After FIFTEEN Service" Calls, Miele gave me a W4802. On the Third Run, fault indication system revealed "Fill",and "Drain" Faults at same time. Called Miele,, Tech came out and non return valve, Two Pieces of Molded Plastic and a diaphragm, not correctly assembled. Drained Bottom of Machine with Pump. Now Dispenser Drawer stays slightly Open and Water shoots down front of Machine. (Always did
since New, drawer stays half full of water:Tech. said it didn't matter! Dryer takes forever to dry heavy load,(T9800).Read all comments re LG, Whirpool, etc., Is anything out there other than a piece of junk? Captain Crunch

Don't Buy it!!
by: Anonymous

I bought this machine and initially was satisfied with it. But within a month of the warranty expiring, the machine started to turn off in mid cycle with an error message of a drain fault. A visit from a plumbing company who snaked and thoroughly checked the drain assured us that the drain was clear. The problem is in the machine itself. It has been six months and repeated visits by a Miele company appointed repairman, and the problem has not been resolved. The machine works sporadically, but the "drain fault" error is ever present and sometimes it takes up to 12 hours to get through one load of wash. Initially there was an effort to blame me for this problem--fair enough. But after all those avenues were ruled out, various parts of the machine were replaced. Nothing changed and the "drain fault" continued to be present. After several visits from the qualified local repairman (who was reasonable and earnest in his efforts) I called Miele myself. They were arrogant, defensive, and caustic in their discussions with me. It was not helpful. I spent a fortune on this machine, and I would never do it again. In my experience, Miele has been the worst company I have ever had to deal with. They do not seem to care about their customers. Once you've spent your money on their products, you're on your own.

Don't buy miele washer
by: Anonymous

This washer cost too much, does not clean well and will wear your clothes out even when you go strictly by the directions. I phoned the dealer who sold it to me (Seattle) but they didn't have anything to say even after telling me how great a machine it was when I was shopping there before the purchase. I phoned the company and they just asked if I was using too much soap (I wasn't.) Don't buy this washer unless you just want to own an expensive appliance and don't mind dull clothes that might smell afterward.

Couldnt agree more
by: TOm

I have these exact same machines.. i would not recommend as well.. Dryer has hard time drying clothes, had tech out to adjust.. not much better.
However, stay away from the washing machine.. they have a design flaw (call them, they will verify).. if you use liquid detergent, the detergent tray will pop out 1/4" during the cycle.. it may not happen at first, but we have two sets of friends with same machine and theirs is doing it now.. you get leaking on the floor.. Miele's response is they are going to try to redesign the tray (have list of customers with problem) but use powder detergent for now.. nice solution for a supposed 'premium' product.. beware.

will die without a Miele
by: Anonymous

The Miele W1981 is fabulous, quiet, flexible with four sets of cycles, extra options, I don't know which is better, being able to set it at 190 degrees or centrifuge the clothes to the point where they can be put on a hanger and into the closet without being on a line--haven't used a dryer in ten years. Hey, luckily I can have both and usually do. I use the Persil for whites and this is my prime reason why I would feel quite sick not having a Miele--whites are white, no more bleach no more.

Washing machine feedback from a clean freak
by: Cara

Congrats on your purchase ! Over time you will love the machine, you have to get us to it.
I recommend not using any Tide products in the machine. After 3 years of trying every product, I can tell you, Tide is the worst.
You need to purchase Persil dry detergent. It has made a hugh difference in the overall cleaning of our clothes.
I purchase one for my whites and one for my colors.
Persil powder boxes are large, and expensive, but they last at least one year. You only need 1 Tab. per load. Buy on the internet and the shipping is usually free.
Trust me on this. Good luck !

Wouldn't buy 4800
by: Anonymous

Always had trouble getting the machine to just turn on. Have to unplug it to clear memory or whatever. Never been happy with the wash, don't think there is enough water in the wash or rinse cycle. Don't know what is out there but I would be careful to check out the programs of any new machine. This one had preset programs, for innstance, can't just do a spin. I will do better at checking things out next time.

3 years and now love it
by: Anonymous

Have the machines going on 3 years, have learned a lot from my many visits with the Miele service guy. First, dont use Tide detergent. Buy the Persil ( I like the color one too ) Use only one tab. Second always wipe down the door after the last ues, mold will grow there. Run the machine on the sanitize cycle at least once a week to keep it smelling clean. The cycle is long, but it gets to super hot temp. to kill any mold or mildow and reduces the moldy smell.
There is a spin only cycle, it is under "Mastercare"- select "Drain/Spin" this is the only way to get it to just spin.
Finally dont use fabric softener ofter, it cause mold to form. Hope this helps.
I now really like the machine, it cleans our cloths really well.

Buy the German soap
by: Anonymous

After 2 years with the machines, I would recommend buying the german soap Persil. It has made a hugh difference in the smell of the clothes. I purchase 20 pounds at a time and it last forever! You only need 1 Tab. of powder per load. I also recommend buying the powder one designed for color clothes, the clothes come out looking like new. It cost alot, but last along time and most of the internet sites will throw in the shipping cost. Your family will thank you.
