Maytag MVWC6ESWW centennial top load washer

A known energy- and water- saver, the MVWC6ESWW washing machine from Maytag is manufactured using standard Maytag Commercial Technology. Tests have been conducted to ensure the longevity and durability of the machine, especially on the drive shaft of its transmission as well as the spin gear and synthetic oil.

With its 3x3 Spray System feature, your laundry will be able to benefit from thorough cleaning inside-out.

Key features

- It is ENERGY STAR-qualified, which means that it is energy-efficient and you can save more on your utility bills.
- The 4.0 cu. ft loading capacity is best for medium-sized households.
- It comes with the 3x3 Spray System.
- It enables auto load sensing.
- It is designed with commercial grade transmission and stainless steel wash basket.
- It has up to 4 variable temperature settings.
- It is powered by a 2-speed motor.
- It separately dispenses bleach and fabric softener.
- It has an extra rinse option.
- It works quietly with the QuietPack sound package.

Advantages

The MVWC6ESWW washing machine from Maytag does not only clean clothes thoroughly, but it is highly energy-efficient as well, with its Energy Star qualification. One of the biggest advantages of choosing this washer is that it is incredibly easy to use. By reading the simple directions from the manual, you can start using this machine almost immediately. Washing heavy loads is never a problem, with its 4.0 cu ft capacity.

With the separate bleach and fabric softener dispensers as well as different water settings from cold to hot, you can choose the right setup for any specific laundry type. There are also different wash
cycle options, so whether you are washing delicate garments or heavy duty articles such as comforters and bed sheets, this washer is always up to the challenge.

There is also an extra rinse option, so if you want to make sure that your clothes are free from suds, you can always go for some extra rinse. Also, with separate dispensers for the bleach and fabric softener, you can choose to add some fabric conditioner or not, since the washer will automatically add more water if you do so. Although water levels are controlled by the user, the machine automatically adds more water according to the load. Washing and drying are done in a short time so you end up saving more on water and energy, making this washing machine a worthwhile purchase.

Disadvantages

One of the disadvantages to the MVWC6ESWW washing machine from Maytag is that the water levels are not controllable by the user, unlike other types of washers. During heavy loads, the machine can get too noisy and if not cleaned immediately, the machine can leave a less than pleasant odor.

Consumer thoughts

Pros

- adjustable temperature settings
- energy-efficient
- completely cleans clothes
- large capacity
- spins clothes dry
- easy to use
- variable wash cycle options

Cons

- shreds bed sheets
- sensitive spin cycle
- time-consuming spin cycle options
- water levels not controllable by the user
- machine is a bit loud sometimes
- inadequate drainage hose
- sometimes leaves a bad odour

THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR MY STUPIDITY
by: Anonymous

I have $2000 plus of Maytag washers and dryers sitting in my basement, and they are ALL a piece of JUNK!!! I WILL NEVER buy Maytag anything EVER again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a Neptune washer that I can't afford to repair at $500 a pop - 3rd time already. So stupid me went out and bought a Centennial thinking the commercial side had to be quality - was I ever wrong! It's only a year old, and when you push button to start, it's starts agitating without any water even in it. None of the cycles correspond to the button, and when it's finished, you open it up, and then there's water in it. It has never cleaned the clothes from day one.
I HATE MAYTAG ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't be fooled by thinking this maker equals quality. Run as fast as you can if you're even looking at buying anything that has Maytag on it.

regrets
by: jbt

Washer is less than 5 months old and I'm going to be calling for service. This means taking vacation time off to get the washer fixed. It starts agitating before any water is in the tub. I'm sure this is good for the clothes. Then at the end of the spin cycle it sprays water getting the clothes soaked again before I put them in the dryer. I'm very unhappy with this because even if they fix it I'm afraid it will be an ongoing problem.

Maytag dropped the ball here
by: Flyfisher

Bought a Maytag top loader clothes washer in Sept, 2009 & discovered that the quality ain't what it used to be. During installation, it vibrated/chattered badly during test drain cycle. Installer blamed floor. In Feb, 2010 I called a serviceman to check the continuing problem.

He also blamed floor & washer walking problem during drain cycle to containment pad. I strongly disagreed because the old Maytag washer was 8 yrs old & did NOT vibrate/chatter during draining. Also dislike the the water level feature which is determined by the machine. Worse, if the lid is opened after the wash cycle starts, the level is reset to the next HIGHEST level!

Frustrated, I returned to the major store where I bought the machine, complained & asked the Salesman for the name & address of Maytag's Pres or CEO (w/intention of writing a complaint letter). Store Mgr intervened & agreed to give me a free replacement. During installation in Feb, 2010 (by store personnel), it was discovered that a 5" plastic brace was connected to a steel support & the washer drum (to prevent drum damage during shipment); rotating the brace 90 degrees released it & the vibration issue was SOLVED! It was a simple fix that the installer & serviceman MISSED!! I have 3 Maytag machines & like them; however, they dropped the ball this time.

very unhappy
by: Jeane Hartley

I am 77 yrs old, have always used Maytag as my Mother did. I am very unhappy with the machine I bought in Nov.2010. The load sensor is my biggest complaint. First of all I had trouble finding a machine with an agitator. Why do tried and true appliances have to be changed to the point of making it difficult to find what you wnat and need?

Maytag, surely you must be embarrassed with this one
by: Laundry Queen

I purchased this washer without doing proper research -- just based on brand name and a great price at Home Depot, even had to wait several months to get it due to the high demand! I wish I had returned it soon after I purchased it because of the noise. After a few months and while under warranty, a repairman replaced a clutch. It always sounds like a thrashing machine during the high capacity wash cycle and often during the normal cycle as well. I don't think the normal cycle washes long enough to get clothes clean. I don't feel like my clothes are as clean as they were with my old Kenmores, and they come out very wrinkled, even on the delicate cycle. I would not recommend this washer to ANYONE and plan to dump it very soon! Shame on you, Maytag!

Another disgusted owner
by: Anonymous

Same as all the other stories. I wasn't happy with this machine from day one, but I didn't trust myself and return it. Now that the warranty has run out it won't fill with water. How are you suppose to wash with no water???????
If you have just purchased this machine, send it back .

Maytag Centennial piece of junk
by: Anonymous

After 3 months of use this machine will not operate.
After loading the machine and pushing the start button, it shows it is sensing and then shuts off and will not cycle. Even after holding the start button to cancel, it will not cancel and I cannot get my clothes out of it without breaking the lid. I feel like dumping it where I bought it, at Lowe's front door! :( A piece of junk! :(

Washer 18 months old with major leak
by: SorryConsumer

BEWARE! This washer replaced an 18 yr old powerhouse Kitchenaid. Sorry from the first wash that I didn't put a new transmission in the old washer. Nothing washed ever comes out smelling clean, clothes are very wrinkled, no matter what cycle used. NOW at the ripe old age of 18 months, washing machine has developed a MAJOR leak from the bottom, ruining the floor, the new wall behind it, and rug, now waiting for a repairman. Bought this washer after much research, because Maytag had a great reputation- would NEVER get another Maytag, not sure I am keeping this one. Sister had the same exact problem with the model a year older than this one, it ruined her hardwood floor.

Whats in A Name
by: Anonymous

I have the same problem as Joyce.. Starts agitating after the lid is closed.. with No water in the machine.. (This just started a few weeks ago).. Also With the 2nd rinse switch OFF. when it finishes spinning.. it adds more water. and i have to run it in spin mode again and shut the water off to get the clothes dry enough for the dryer.

I once sold and repaired used appliances.. rarely would i come across a "MAYTAG".. they were built to last.. When you said MAYTAG,,, 1st thing that came to mind.."Quality" They were almost heairloom pieces that would be passed to the next generation.(still Working") Colors and options changed.. but it was built like a tank..
It sad to say that Quality had its price.. but the Walmart mentality has done away with consumers wanting quality over price.. a few months after the warranty ran out.. the Maytag.. would not agitate, The customer support line..(looking at my account and noticing the warranty expired).. and would now only direct me to a repair service. I then started to disassemble the machine.. and found more plastic parts than i thought were possible. including the tub..that the pretty stainless steel tub sat in.. I tracked down that a wire (under sized in my mind) spade was over crimped at the factory and the wire broke from the connector, most likely from the constant vibration of the machine... A Easy fix.
As i struggled to get the machine housing back together.( it nearly collapsedfrom the thin steel exterior, I was just amazed at the engineering on this machine. As they have engineered this machine to use as few screws as possible. plastic clips instead of screws.. I honestly think this machine must have cost more in labor to build it than the components in it.
SO.. I believe Roper bought Maytag who in my mind were well known for low end appliances, continue to cash in on the name
MAYTAG.. sorry to say.. NEVER.. Buy a maytag.. (intentional lower case letters).. Try and find a appliance repairman and listen to there recommendations... they see the good and bad everyday..

wrinkled clothes
by: Anita

We bought this machine just under a month ago. It had a bad smell from the beginning. Maybe not like mold, more like new machine. It's strong and unpleasant. Even worse about it is that it wrinkles the clothes so badly! We hang dry all of our clothes. These wrinkles do not come out. They are so set that even ironing is futile. It also leaves lint on the clothes which is why we got rid of the old machine. Is Maytag going to take these machines back?

bad odor
by: Anonymous

While knock on wood we have not had any problems with the machine until now. Yesterday I noticed a bad mildew odor coming from the machine. I have cleaned the ring around the top like I do at least once a month. I am in the process of trying to figure out where in the machine the odor is coming from. I have not found anything on the internet just yet to help with this problem but I will keep searching.

Musty smell
by: cglow

My Centennial washer smells like mold. I've run bleach through it, with no change in the odor. My towels smell musty, after being washed in hot water. I'm really disappointed and concerned that mold is growing in between the tub and the outside wall of the washer. I've only had it a little over a year! Not happy!

when will big corporations learn that years ago they could get away with a unhappy customer or two, but in this day and age with the hole world blogging and posting, a bad rep travels fast.
they keep putting out chunk like this and refusing good customer service, they will soon find them selves out of business.

Use the comfortor setting for best cleaning
by: Anonymous

We bought this last summer when our 10 year old washer died. We have a very large family and do quite a bit of laundry. I noticed right away that the water saving feature does not work well with dirty laundry. I started using the comfortor setting for every wash because it fills the basin up all the way and allows for a better wash. Think, washing all your dishes in an inch of water vs filling up the whole sink. Hmmm. I tracked the gallons of water used on that setting vs using the regualar setting with an extra rinse and it actully uses about 10 gal less!! Try Nellie's all natural laundry soda too, that seems to do the best job on cleaning. You can buy it with free economy shipping at www.cottonbabies.com. Anyways I doubt I would reccomend this to anyone, but if you need it based on the fact that it's cheap go for it, but purchase an extended warranty. I am acutally on here because I'm trying to find out about the nasty smell that others have reported. I guess I'll be doing a tip and clean or something to try and clean out the hose etc. Yuck!

I bought my washer in August 2009 after previously owning a Maytag for over 20 years. The timer went out this morning. Unbelievable. Wish I knew about this forum before I bought. If Maytag were smart, they would stand behind this problem and make good.

Do NOT purchase this machine
by: Anonymous

I purchased my Maytag Centennial Washer in April 2009. Last week the timer broke. Timers rarely malfunction, so my guess is Whirlpool Corp. (who purchased Maytag) is using defective parts and bilking the consumer to the tune of millions of dollars or more. A washing machine should last a minimum of 10 years with no problems. My last two washers lasted nearly 20 years each. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MACHINE.

Centennial MVWC6ESWW
by: JENNA

This machine is a piece of junk. I live alone and do loads of laundry a week. It is now broken after what equals 136 loads of laundry. It is a piece of junk. It appears the time swutch is broken and it leaves water in the basin at the end of the cycle. I went on Maytag's site to buy a timer and they dont even have the model listed. Buyer beware and do not buy this from Maytag or Home depot. They also do not stand behind the products they sell. I am looking for a class action lawsuit if anyone knows of any.

GREAT MACHINE
by: KansasBob

I read the less than stellar comments about the MVWC6ESWW, but when Lowes had it on sale for $299 about 14 months ago.... well I bought it.

WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS MACHINE. I read that you don't open after you start, but that made sense since you don't open a front end loader after you start it,too.

Maybe we we got a good one, but my wife rates this as a great machine... now she replaced a 20 year old Maytag with it, so that may be lower expectations, but I doubt that.

Now today November 7th 2010 the waasher will not spin out the clothes. I would advise anyone against purchasing the machine.

Maytag Centennial Top load washer
by: Anonymous

I purchased the washer Maytag Centennial, September 25, 2009. September 20,2010, it started to immediately start to rinse when you start the load, and it also dumps a rinse cycle after it done the final spin, so the clothes is sopping wet. Called Maytag,(Thank goodness it was within the 1 year warranty. The tech came out to repair and said sensor was bad, replaced sensor. Here I am not 30 days later, and guess what the problems presents itself again. Called Maytag, was asked was the service co. approved by Maytag, I said I would assume so since I got the service center # from Maytag, then was told warranty is up, cll the service center back, they should warranty their work.

My Maytag Centennial top load washer is less than a year old. Some of the time it does not spin. The dial for settings does not work properly. However, now it has a distinct odor--like mold and mildew. I'm very disappointed in this product, and I would not advise anyone to buy it.

does the job
by: Anonymous

I have read so many reviews before purchasing my washer. They were so confusing but decided on the maytag for price and what it offers. Although I only have my washer a two days I have done 15 loads of laundry, from delicate to heavy cycles. I am NOT disappointed with the machine. This washer replaced my whirlpool and it is just as noisy as I had before maybe a tad louder, no big deal. It wrings the clothes very well without twisting them up ( like my friends have told me with the whirlpool cabrio ).

It seemed to get my clothes clean and everything came out damp knowing that it all got submersed in water. ( again my friend has the Maytag bravos and it has some dry spots ) thus making my decision based on the reviews NOT to spend the money on the higher end washers and just to get the job done. I also might add I'm not a bells and whistle person when it comes to washers/dryers. Just want clean clothes and I do 3 loads a day!

Less than expected
by: Marva H.

My old washer sprung a leak, so on June 30th I purchased a new Maytag Centennial load sensing washer. My daughter's family is with me temporarily, so we have a lot of laundry. We've already noticed the odor on the clothes, especially towels and washcloths. My son-in-law is a truck driver. He washed his clothes while he was home, and they also came out with that odor. If I had known about the problems I would never have purchased this washer. Also, unless you use liquid detergent, it will not rinse all the detergent out of your clothes. We had a new box of powdered detergent when I bought the machine, and we frequently had to re-rinse in order to get all the detergent out. Maytag makes excellent products (I have a dryer that I love), but they definitely need to rethink this machine.

DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THIS MODEL
by: Anonymous

This machine if VERY noisy when agitating Agitates only 1 way, not back and forth. I don't feel it washes clothes as clean as the previous Maytag machine I had for 21 years. The don't make machines like that anymore. Very disappointed in this one. I would not recommend buying this particular model.
