Maytag MHWE500VW front load washer 4.0 cu ft

Designed, developed, and manufactured with Maytag Commercial Technology, the Maytag MHWE500 is seen as a dependable washer that can rival the quality of other leading brands. This washer is versatile and economical to run, leading to big savings on energy and water bills. Initially it is an expensive item to buy.

Washer Highlights

The MHWE500 is a Maytag Performance Series Front Load washing machine that has many high-end washer features. With a volume capacity of 4.1 cubic feet, the Maytag MHWE500VW has enough room to fit just about any type of garment. The front-loading design results in savings on water and electricity bills.

Interior highlights

  • The Steam Clean unit heats water to 157 degrees Fahrenheit to eliminate bacteria, remove tough stains, and sanitize the clothes. Steam is also used to raise temperatures and clean the washer itself. Dirt, residue, bacteria, and other residue is cleaned from the washer with the Clean Washer Cycle. This is an important procedure for eliminating residue that may cause odors during wash cycles (a common problem with other front-loading washers).

  • The Sensi-Care Wash System makes use of a water channeling system to ensure that 100% of the water, detergent, and laundry products are mixed properly before being added to the load. In effect, users get cleaner clothes, an efficient cleaning system, and a gentle wash for their laundry.

  • With two sensors, the washer is able to monitor the size and composition of the load, as well as the suds level. The washer then automatically adjusts the amount of water being used in the cycle to ensure that the right amount of water is used for an effective and efficient washing.

  • The Maytag MHWE500 comes with a built-in water heater that makes use of sensors to analyze the load and water temperature. Depending on the settings and cycle type, the washer will adjust the water temperature for optimal cleaning conditions.

    Exterior highlights

  • The Maytag MHWE500VW also has a Smart Dispenser system that practically automates the entire washing procedure so users don't have to keep coming back to add bleach, fabric softener, or detergent. The washer automatically dispenses laundry products at the right time to ensure a thorough wash for the clothes.

  • The balance system on this washer makes use of six springs to minimize the vibration and noise generated during operation.

  • The front-loading design and the 4.1 cubic feet of capacity help to save time, energy, water, and money.
  • Comes in white or evergreen.

  • Dimension Specifications
  • Height: 38 in.
  • Width: 27 in.
  • Depth: 30.5 in.
  • Total volume: 4.0 cu.ft.

    Advantages
  • The greatest advantage of the Maytag MHWE500VW is its efficiency. With a front-loading washer that has a capacity of 4.1 cubic feet, consumers will be running fewer, larger loads in a washer that uses less energy and water than top-loading washers. The auto water level system helps conserve water.
  • This washer also helps consumers save on detergent and softener because of the auto dispensing units. The dispensing units make efficient use of laundry products so clothes will come out fresh, clean, and smelling good.
  • The extended spin cycle on this washer spins clothes until they are close to dry, meaning less time in the dryer and more savings on the electric bill. Also, users get to enjoy a wide variety of cycles, options, and settings so they can dial in the perfect configuration for every load.

    Disadvantages
  • Consumers who are accustomed to using fabric conditioners or other waxy laundry products may be forced to change to another type of product. Waxy laundry products may leave too much residue on the sensors, resulting in a different reading than the actual washer conditions.
  • The rubber area around the door also requires extra maintenance to prevent build-up of residue, which often leads to a mildew smell. Wiping down the rubber with vinegar and running the self-cleaning cycle should remedy this problem.
  • The evergreen version of the washer costs $100 more than the white version.
  • The price tag.

    Consumer Opinions

    Pros
  • efficient use of water, energy, and laundry products
  • large load capacity
  • numerous options and settings
  • virtually automated washing
  • quiet operation
  • built-in heater
  • auto dispensers

    Cons
  • doesn't have a reversible door
  • sensors can get scratched, clouded, or gummed-up, requiring servicing or cleaning
  • takes some getting used to
  • expensive

Maytag has gone to the dogs NEW
    by: Dan

    Machine (mhwe500vw11) new'10

    Already malfunctions - f35, sud
    Have used only HE soap.
THIS Is the LAST Maytag of any kind
    No help from Maytag co.
Going to exert a vigorous anti Maytag campaign online,
there are countless complaints- maybe a class action is justified. They have been sued before. I believe this is intentional obsolescense / component unreliability, as can be demonstrated by an unacceptably high failure rate.

Too fancy model means more repair bills. Never by Maytag.
    by: Jon Thomas

    Bought June 2009 -- $1199 with 1-yr extended warr.
July 2011 -- $379 for a new water pump (error code F21/F22 that won't clear). Barely out of warranty.

March 2012 -- $345 for a new water pressure sensor (error code F35 that will clear but your load got cancelled so you start the load over & take your chances).
The tiny part with a tiny circuit cost $244. But the same part on an identical-looking Kenmore would've cost just $69 online according to a YouTube guy.

$700 in repairs after only 3 years old.
    Never buy Maytag again.
Buy a cheap $250 new Whirlpool instead.

    junk

This machine is a piece of crap {to put in a nutshell) also had a rear bearing go bad in 2 years. Maytag service dept. was a great help NOT!!!! they really didn't care about the problem because I guess it was my problem. They wouldn't stand behind a product that was 2 years old. I guess I should have bought the extended warrenty but I really thought that a MAYTAG!!!!! was built to last more than 2 years. That must be why they push the warrenty because they know what kind of crap they build. So if you insist on buying a Maytag product by the warrenty because if you don"t you MAY get TAGGED with a repair bill that will cost more than what you payed in the first place. I would have mark zero but I didn't have that option.

    What is F35?
    by: Anonymous

Have had to call for service twice now. We also had SUD and F35 show up in the 13th month. I guess the Maytag repairman will be busy with this washer. They don't make things like they use to.

rear bearing bad in under two years
    by: Anonymous

Very disappointed to find out the rear bearing is bad in this machine in less than two years. The repair estimate is over $700.00.

F35 and SUD. This is unfair considering ANY price tag. It happened during month 13!

    almost perfect!
    by: Anonymous

I purchased my Maytag washer a little over a year ago. It has definitely been my best appliance purchase to date. I did have a few small problems with it, but Maytag's fantastic warranty plan had it resolved in short order.

It gets my clothes incredibly clean using very little water and less detergent. It actually made a noticable difference in my water bills. It's very easy to load and unload and keep clean. With it's many different settings I can pretty much eliminiate "Dry Cleaning" expenses. Finally, it's very large drum size allows me to clean anything -even giant King Size down comforters!

Now a few negatives...after moving it, the drum did not relevel well so it can get quite noisy on some spin cycles. It had mechanical issues during the first 6 months. They were fixed by warranty, but Maytag should have caught them in quality control.

Still this is a great washer. It would have been rated 5 except for the maintenance problem.
