TOTAL POS!!
by: Mad

Bought at Home Depot about $500. Exactly 2 years later, the washer is full of rust, making loud noises, banging hard. Repairman came out to look at it and charged $125. Now he says the agitator and motor are rusted, destroyed, and stripped. Washer wasn't used that often and it's already broken! Will never buy Maytag or Kenmore ever again. Very poor quality and total ripoff repair parts.

Piece of junk
by: Anonymous

I bought my maytag centennial washer in 2010. I have had problems with it from the beginning. I bought a maytag because they always stood by their product. Had a maytag washer & dryer for 15 years loved them. My centennial dryer is ok but the washer is a piece of low grade junk. The dryer is rusted real bad on the top and the washer well its gone, it's had every problem underneath the sun with it, like I said from the very beginning. To get help from anyone is almost impossible. For all the problems the washer has had if maytag is as reputable as they want you to think they are, they would do the right thing and replace the washer with a new one that works like its supposed to. I paid $500.00 for mine. Alot of money for a piece of junk. There should have been a recall on all the parts that went bad and serviced to you at no cost to you at all. I will never buy another maytag product ever as long as I live. I had to save up to buy my new washer & dryer. I'd been better off buying a used washer. Money is real hard to come by these days and to be scamed like this is wrong. I agree, there should be a class action law suit.

The design is flawed
by: Lisa

Had my washer for 4 days now. First, it takes a small wash about an hour to complete, then it spins so hard it shakes bad. I stopped it on the wash cycle and the cloths are not completely wet. I'm asking for a refund today!!!!!! I just want an old fashioned washing machine. How is it economical when you use three times the electricity? This might of been a fun invention in a garage, but not for the consumer.

Maytag Customer Service not service oriented!
by: Anonymous

We have had the Maytag MVWC300XWO for about 2 years now. Just had the repair person leave and the Main Board is not any good. I contacted Maytag and they told me that there have not been any problems with Model MVWC300XWO and were definitely not any help. We are a retired couple and do not do many loads of wash each week. I agree with several other people who have said that this machine is the worse of any washing machines I have ever used. I will not use any Maytag appliances again and will try to let everyone know what a piece of junk this machine is.

Maytag Centenial: Bigges POS I ever owned.
by: Anonymous

Bought this from HHGregg 6 months ago and we have been trying to get it fixed for the last 3 weeks. Maytag set an appointment for someone to come look at it and the guy called me the day of the service call and asked what was wrong so I told him and he said that it was the circuit board and was not even going to come out and look at it. That's poor service there because I don't care how many years experience you have you still show up and diagnose the issue correctly. Called Maytag again and told them to send the part to my house and send a different company to put it in. I told them the man on the phone said it was the circuit board and they sent some kind of valve and wire harness. So the second company comes out and that guy said it was not the circuit board it was the shift solenoid so he replaced the shift valve and said it was fixed and left. No Stupid me didn't make sure it was working before he left because I figured he knew what he was doing, but it was still doing the same thing. d I will never buy another Maytag. Not to mention I live in one of the largest cities in America and there are only 2 companies in this area that Maytag will use.

Maytag-unreliable

Bought in 2009 and the first year it went haywire--no reset switch,so I unplugged it for a day--the computer reset and it worked. That has happened at least 3 or 4 times since I got this machine. Now exactly 4 years to the day I had to pay $178.00 to fix it.The part--pressure switch-was bad-repairman said when ordering they had changed the part number-the part is different cause they had issues with the old part---well why then was there no recall on the washer if that switch has been an issue since the beginning.Never buying a Maytag/Whirlpool again.lesson learned

Stops after sensing
by: Anonymous

We've had the Centennial HE top load for a month. First 2 weeks were fine, then occasionally a load wouldn't run. This past week, it has taken 3 days to get each load to actually run. The lid locks, and the machine does its sensing thing. Sometimes I hear water for about 10-15 seconds, and maybe some shifting noise. After 15 minutes it just sits with the green "wash" light on. I've let it sit like this for hours, and overnight, thinking maybe it was still thinking about it. Hate it!

Product that should be RECALLED for being defective!
by: Anonymous

Having to think about what to do with this washer. All the reviews I keep seeing say replace to temp/water level sensor. Some of the cost are up to $50.00 which I would much rater pay and do it myself if it would guarantee to fix it. If it doesn't than I am out only $50.00 and I look at getting a new washer/dryer set...and you can rest assure it won't be a MAYTAG! My previous washer & dryer I have for over 15 years, basic nothing fancy. Even a no named brand.
At the time I got this set I didn't read the reviews. I will if I have to replace it for the next set!

Have had this washer since 1/2010. Have not been happy with it since I got it. Worked good for a while, but lately when I start my wash cycle it starts to agitate and fill at the same time and leaves water in it at the end of the cycle. have to run an extra rinse cycle. Don't like automatic water level. When I want to do a cold wash have to put it on the hot water temp to get a cold wash and vice versa. Hunk of junk. Can't afford a repairman and can't afford a new one. Between a rock and a hard place. With all the complaints I have read about this model, Maytag should give us credit to get a new washer of our choosing.(yeah, right, that will never happen).

What a piece of low grade garbage! We bought this machine based mainly on the Maytag reputation. If the Maytag repairman is still out there he will probably resign in shame over the non-existence of quality in this product. This machine does not fill with water normally. This machine could not get a one-star quality rating even from a distant galaxy.

Maytag Centennial MVWC300xW1
by: T. B. Ontario Canada

Bought in Jan 2012 along with dryer deal at Home Depot . Looked like a decent price for a "Quality" Maytag washer /dryer combo .
1/ 16 months later - wont spin and gets locked on that cycle
2/ Towels stink , so its not washing "agitating " in a quality manner
3/ Due to its "out of warranty" timing ( I thought heck its a Maytag it'll never break down ) I never took any extended warranty which was 1/3rd the cost of unit anyway took the unit apart to see only 2 springs at top of drum holding it from banging sides ( there should be 4) so I called Maytag ( emailed them also with no response) and had to purchase springs $40 Can to hopefully balance the drum , nope didn't do anything so that hopeful quick fix sucked ..
5) Well I guess I need to take apart unit soon after further analysis and see whats what ... shame really I never experienced this with former "Inglis"washer which lasted 15 years ..

would I buy another MAYTAG ....hmmm don't think so folks .

Advice :- If you need piece of mind , buy the extended warranty and cross your fingers in this day and age :)

Had my maytag washer 9 months, started shaking all over the house. Called repaiman, showed up with a pocket screwdriver. Period. For tools. Couldn't figure out what was wrong, I had to show him that the drum was loose on the drive hub. Ordered part, 2 weeks later, still telling me part is back ordered....called SEARS...said in stock, could have it overnite. Called store I bought from, said if you're too busy, I'll come get the part when it shows up, & install it myself. They called next morning, parts here. Got parts, fixed my own dumb self. I'm sure they got paid the warranty repair.....another maytag? riiigght.

Dissatisfied Consumer of MVW C400XW4
by: Nancy

This washer does not clean the clothes and in fact ruins them by tearing them to sheds and stretching them out of shape. Our theory is that it boasts low water usage but the result is clothes that are not clean and possibly ruined. Folks, there is a reason that ample water is needed to clean the clothes. That's always how it's been done. Maytag, admit it, it is a design flaw. Your newer machine addresses that issue. Why, because you manufactured and sold a product that should never have gotten off of the drawing board. Unfortunately, we bought that piece of junk six months ago and Maytag insists that it is working as it should. In other words they are saying that it is not supposed to get the clothes clean, they are saying that the machine is supposed to ruin clothes. According to the factory service technician, that large tub should only be filled one third full, so forget ever washing a pillow, bedspread, blanket, bath rug or drape. Don't buy this machine and don't buy at Lowes

My Magtag Centennial has been a bid disappointment
by: Cathy

Like so many others on here I purchased my Magtag with a false confidence that it was the superior product. I purchased it in 4/2011 here we are in 4/2013 and it won't work. I never have been pleased with it, never felt like my clothes were getting clean, like others I have opened the washer after completion of a wash cycle to find soap till on my clothes, some pieces still dry as though they were never washed, etc.... I sit here reading all these entries and think someone must be in my laundry room sending out my story for me.... Ditto, ditto, ditto,. MAYTAG YOUR REPAIRMEN ARE LONELY NOT BECAUSE OF A GOOD PRODUCT ... it's because everyone is waking up and not BUYING YOUR PRODUCT!! I am so very sorry I ever purchased it washer... Now I am unemployed, and have to figure out how to pay for either repairs to this hunk of junk or purchase a new one.
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS. BRAND OR STYLE TO ANYONE!!!!!!

Can we all say CRAP?
by: Anonymous

Maytag Centennial Washer doesn't deserve any stars except a MINUS STAR.

This is the worst washing machine I have ever encountered in my lots of years of experience.

This pile of junk is totally useless and has been from the date it was delivered; now after a couple of months...it won't run a cycle it just starts in the middle.

I did not realize until (several days after it was delivered) I went to use it that it would fill with only about 3 inches of water.

I was disgusted when I saw the machine said "AUTOMATIC WATER LEVEL." I was not told this by the salesperson at Home Depot and frankly I had never had a machine that I was not able to control the water level (the most useful control).

The stupid people who came up with this stupid useless machine should be fired!

I HAD "NO CONTROL OVER THE WATER LEVEL" (lifting the lid (only a couple of time) will cause it to add a few more tablespoons of water but then it cuts you off...no more water. WHAT A DUMB IDEA!

BE FOREWARNED...MAYTAG IS TOTAL JUNK...a RIPOFF...THE ONLY THING IT CLEANS IS YOUR WALLET!

Want to guess where this crap is made...not the USA. We should refuse all the crap coming from overseas.

Lid will lock and not open. At times I can't get the lid to lock and it will not run. Not a very good design. Clothes do not always get clean. Left over lint is a big problem. Don't try to wash more than two towels or a set of sheets. Any slightly large load will not spin. Seems to take a long time to complete a load. Just can't think of any positives about this machine.

The idea of using less water is a good one but they have gone too far with this one. The water level is so low that after the cycle is finished some of my clothes are still dry. I just wonder if any of the clothes get clean. We paid a lot for this machine and can not afford to replace it. Anyone thinking about getting one of the new HE washing machines please don't. Buy one of the old ones with an adgitator and uses regular laundry soap. You will will be much happier and your clothes will get much cleaner. I wish we would have know what we were getting into before we bought this machine.

What a piece of garbage
by: Diane

I purchased my MVWC300XWO Centennial washer from Home Depot, where the salesman promised next day delivery. Unfortunately, that turned out to be 3 weeks later. The first washer delivered skipped right over the rinse cycle. It washed, drained, then stopped. The second washer delivered a week later did the same thing. The third washer arrived in yet another week. The delivery man ran an empty load after he installed the washer. He should have hung around until the cycle was over. He would have be as surprised as I was that the moron ran the washer with all of the paperwork and booklets left inside. It looked like someone washed a couple of Sunday papers. I again called my friends at Whirlpool and after being put on hold and transferred around, they said I 'should be OK'. OMG. I tried to have this piece of crap returned or even traded for another style. No deal. Now the washer goes thru the wash cycle, dumps the fabric softener and turns off. If I could lift it, it would now be on the curb. This is a disposable washer. Throw it away after a year. The aggrevation and frustration has been enormous. No, I would not recommend buying one of these pieces of garbage.

Matag Centennial Washer Creates a Mess
by: Anonymous

My daughter purchased this washing machine in December. Last week she came home to a house filled with water. The cheap plastic mounting for the supply hose let go. She had bought the better steel braided hoses for the machine and they seemed fine. It looks like the problem was with the washing machine itself. She has over $10,000 worth of water damage due to this new washing machine. Maytag is not the company it once was. The quality is no longer there.

We have had this machine for two years. From day one I was disappointed. Clothes come out with soap all over them and are still dirty. Sheets ball up in the washer, outside of the sheets are wet, sheets inside the wadded up ball are dry and water never touches them. Gross!!. Towels don't smell clean and the washer itself smells bad. i generally have to wash the load once with soap then wash again with just water to get all the soap out. That's very efficient right! Tried every combination of cycles and amounts of soap with no good results. I have ended up keeping a gallon bucket next to the machine and fill it up with water, disolve the soap then pour this bucket of water in the machine before I put the clothes in. Today it finally broke completely and won't turn on. Hurray!! On my way to the store to get anything but a Maytag. I'm going back to the regular washer with an agitator. This machine has very poor engineering and quality. Maytag you should be ashamed!

LOVE it..

This thing is like a little washing robot. Think about this for a second... Maytag sells millions of these washers and I feel sorry for the lemons they gave you... But my is perfect! :) Oh yeah I read all the reviews but couldn't pass up the black friday deal of 350 delivered for the stainless steel one... I've probably done 50 or so loads in it. Never had to rewash twice... Never had cloths come out dirty... Perfect every time. No problems... Anyway...After reading all the horrid stories I bought the 5 year protection plan from HD for 100 bucks I figure hell, if they had to come out and replace one thing it will be worth it! Really! Tho, if ALL these washers are junk then I'd imagine maytag going out of business real quick and if HD can't repair my washer due to no parts they will have to give me a new one. So.... I dunno. I've looked are reviews on LG and other brands while not as bad they aren't much better and well, I wish I could afford a 6-8 dollar washer. I don't want a low end 299 beater that gets even worse reviews so...... I took a chance on this and so far... Very Happy! :)

Maytag Centennial bought just over 1 year ago from Lowe's.

Service has been out two times and replaced parts on the machine which stops mid-cycle or will not start at all (pretty lights come on and blink though). Often makes a horrible noise when going into the spin cycle (sometimes it stops / other times I have to unplug the machine and re-start)
Usually, I can get through a small load of laundry by unplugging the machine when it stops and using the rinse and spin and/or drain and spin cycles.

I have found holes in clothes too.
by: Hannah

Have had this machine for about 6 months and have found random holes in knit clothes--especially shirts, sweatshirts, and sweaters. Today, I read online that it is probably the result of the drum spinning so fast which causes the clothing to be drawn to the sides and pushed through the drain holes. The fabric is getting caught on the metal edges on the underside of the drum and then when it slows down, the clothes pull away from the side and snag. Not a happy mama. But I'm not sure what to do yet--I certainly don't want to keep washing with it and put holes in all our new clothes.

Do not buy the Maytag Centennial washer. Even if you don't want the extra rinse cycle it still does it. I've tried unplugging it. Now it starts to agitate before the water even starts to fill it. I figured out how to get my clothes clean---finally
by: Anonymous

I have had the Maytag Centennial washer for over a year now. I finally figured out how to get my clothes clean using it:)

First of all, I wash all loads on delicate setting. I do this because it is the only setting which actually totally covers the clothing in water (most of the time).

Next I wait until I hear it switch from "Sensing" to "Wash". Then I hit the button "cancel", which unlocks the lid.

While the load is "Sensing", I get a tub which I fill with hot to warm water and dissolve two Tide pods in it - taking out the left-over coverings which do not dissolve.

I pour this over my load, and by hand I swish the old water with the new soapy water...and voila, I get clean clothes from this machine.

Yes, it sucks having to do this...Yes, it is not good that I have to use double the detergent...but what sucks more is using this machine without these steps and getting dirty, smelly clothes out.

Since we are all unfortunately stuck with it, we are going to have to use extra measures to get our stuff clean.

I would replace it...but could not in good conscience give this machine to anyone except my worst enemy.

I have had my washer for 1 yr and the sensor has now gone out on it. I had to switch to HE powder and dryer sheets because when you walked in my house you could smell the moldy smell. I will never again buy a Maytag product. I am disappointed that Maytag does not stand behind their product.

Water Temperture Set On Cold But Running Hot Water
by: Dawn

I have a Maytag Centennial Washer Commercial which I bought new about 2 years old and runs approximately 3 loads per month. It was working fine until yesterday... Now hot water comes out when the water temperature is on the cold setting. No water comes out when I shut off the hot water valve on the wall. This appears to be a common problem with this machine however, the recommendations for repair are not consistent. Help?

Piece of Junk
by: Anonymous

We have had the Maytag Centennial Washer less than two years. It does not agigtate. Not to mention it does not drain. Let us not forget it wil lnot spin. This is a piece of junk. I use to can play around with it unplug it to get it to operate properly. That does not work anymore. The washer is trash buy something else this was my first and last maytag problem. I had a whirlpool washer for almost ten years and replaced it with this maytag mess. Because we had our home remodled I wanted a new washer and dryer. I should have kept the old whirlpool faithful. Will be buying a new whilrpoll washer soon

by: Anonymous

I have Maytag Centennial washer. I had two other Maytag washers before this one and they each lasted about 15 years and were great. This washer is a total piece of crap. The washer won't fill with water, the dark clothes have lint all over them. My clothes are not getting clean...and towels have started to smell. The washer even smells bad inside. The repairman is coming AGAIN. Do not buy!!

Motor doesn't last
by: Joy in Reno

Purchased a Maytag Centennial 9/27/2010, had to put a new motor in the washer September 2011, luckily, I was just under the one year manfacturer warranty so it was covered. Unfortunately, May 2012, the motor went again, 8 months later. I would NOT recommend this washer to anyone as the repair man said this was typical. I contacted Maytag and was told I should have purchased the extended warranty. This washer should have lasted at least 5 years, what has happened to Maytag? I will not purchase Maytag anymore.

Maytag Centennial Washer
by: Anonymous

Do not buy the Maytag Centennial washer. Even if you don't want the extra rinse cycle it still does it. I've tried unplugging it. Now it starts to agitate before the water even starts to fill it. I use to be able to play around with it and get it to work normal but not having any luck now. Have had it for 2 years never was happy with it. Will never buy a Maytag or Whirlpool again.

Junk in less than a year
by: Anonymous

Do NOT buy this junk washer. The washer will begin to cycle and then stop and unlock the lid. If I am able to finally get it to work then it will not drain correctly. It simply will not operate and it is less than a year old. A piece of junk and constant barriers to claim a warranty. I will never buy whirlpool/Maytag again.

Hot water not working correctly
by: Anonymous

I had the same problem as everyone else...the sensor went out. Followed the YouTube video and fixed it. Now the problem has returned only its the hot water thats affected. If I wash on anything but cold, the water "spits" out. It takes well over an hour to fill the tub at this rate. It doesn't do this on cold water though. I'm thinking I should take apart the sensor like the other guy in this post?? I even disconnected the hose lines from the washer to make sure it wasn't a blocked or linked hot water line. Water flow thru the line is fine.

Any suggestions???

P.S. this pair was purchased at the '09 Black Friday Sale too. Thanks Home Depot!!

Where can you purchase the load selection sensor?
by: Anonymous

Can you tell me where I can purchase the load selection sensor for the Maytag Centennial washer? My sensor has been messed up ever since I bought the machine because it never put enough water in the tub to even cover my clothes. I had to keep lifting the lid for more water to be added. Now, it is totally screwed up and adds a little water then drains it back out without washing, doesn't work in spin cycle. I have been miserable with this machine. Thank you so much and this site has been very helpful.

if it gets off balance you have to stop it and fix what is inside then start washer over again the whole wash cycle and all

i bought a top loader cause i like to soak things sometimes but once again it will empty your soap and water out and you have to re soap and start again

i would love to return it i hate it but too late and would feel guilty selling it to someone

I've had the machine just over three years. It is once again not working. The warranty has just expired and I plan to buycott Maytag and Wirlpool, the company that now owns Maytag. It is a piece of junk as the other comments say. But it's a piece of junk that costs money and takes up space. Stear clear.

Atc-auto Load Sensing Switch
by: Anonymous

I just read some comments on this page. I had the same problem as some of you - washer begining with rinse cycle. For the sensor fix, please see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yxjNiAKvYw&feature=related DO IT YOURSELF FIX. First of all, Maytag did not manufacture this sensor. So for those of you saying you will never buy another Maytag product, first think of what you are saying. I opened the housing where all of the electronics are located, I then took out the load sensor. If you read the printing in the sensor housing, you will see either Ark-les or ITW. This is the company that manufactured this sensor. I opened the sensor by taking off the plastic housing. There is some grease on the connectors within the switch. I noticed some of the grease was getting on some of the resistors. I cleaned that off. No need to wipe the grease off the contacts, it is there for a reason. On the housing where the turn knob is located, there is a contact that kind of looks like the letter "U". I bent those forward a bit to make sure they are making better contact with the contacts on the circuit board. I put the sensor back together and put it back in the control housing, made all the connections. Turned the washer on and the washer works like it should.

Washer is not getting clothes clean
by: Anonymous

I bought my centennial in the summer. It took awhile to get use to the lid locking and the low water levels, but the clothes are barely wet on the lop of the load after washing and the clothes in the bottom are soaking wet. I started washing smaller loads. the same thing happens. I must drain and spin twice in order to put the clothes in the dryer or ring them by hand. If clothes are not visibly dirty, it is fine. But the dirty uniforms are still dirty and do not wash. It takes several attempts to ever cancel by holding the button for three seconds. There are times that it takes 40 minutes for it to start filling with water at times and over an hour for the cycle to run! Other times it does not start and cancels itself. Any advice? It is a nightmare and more time consuming that ever. Lots of time there is still laundry detergent in the bottom of the washer. I am using less and now liquid and all he specified. Any ideas? I am going to call for service. Is it the sensor bar? Are these the types of problems you were having/

I purchased the Maytag Centennial Washer 6 months ago from Sears and the water sensor has gone out 3 times now. Just last week I had a repairman out to fix the sensor and after the first load it broke again. The washer won't fill with water. I am pushing for them to either replace the washer or refund my money. It looks like I should do the latter since I am not the only person having issues with this washer. The next time I purchase an appliance I will be sure to check consumer reports.

I guess I'm lucky... my Maytag Centennial washer worked for about 18 months, then the sensor went out.I called customer service and was told that the warranty expired I was out of luck. I fix it myself and will put the repair on youtube. The part costed about $72 dollars, I got $20 dollars off because I'm a long time costomer. It works fine now, but for how long?

Had Maytag HE MVWC400XW since Feb 22, 2011. When washing dark clothes lint all over. Purchased at Lowes and was told could'nt return unless service repair was called 3 times for same problem. Called service and guy told us to use less detergent. Well I am only using half cap full and still lint problem. I would never buy another Maytag nor would I purchase it at Lowes.. Please do not purchase this machine. Purchased this with Lowes charge and I will not pay for the balance unless they take it back...

Just Got Ours Yesterday
by: New Maytag Owner

Hmmmm. Not pleased with the bad reviews. Our old Whirlpool washing machine died after 21 years (Yep!). We didn't have any time to do any research with dirty clothes piling up, so we bought what Home Depot had available and was within our budget. Our new Centennial washer was installed yesterday. Have washed six loads with no problems so far. I guess there is nothing else we can do but hold Maytag to their warranty
agreement if it breaks down.

It just goes to show they don't make things like they used to. Even the salesperson we did business with at Home Depot was the first to admit this.

Keeping our fingers crossed....

broke after six months
by: Jerry

We have had this washer for 6 months, 10 days. It's broken, sensor switch is out, won't load water. It worked well for about 2 months, then started shaking so bad the laundry room shook with it. We do not recommend that you buy this machine. Look on the internet, this machine should be recalled for being a lemon.
