Magtag Neptune MAH8700AWW

by KATHY
(GUYTON, GA. U.S.)

This is the 2nd washing machine we have had from Sears. We loved the first one. However we do not like this model or style of machine. When the washer is running, the water does not run through the "middle" section of the washer. It runs through the front, by the window, therefore, the laundry detergent isn't getting into all of the clothes. The detergent is only on the clothes sitting in the front of the washer. With this washer there is no such thing as using a "quick wash" because the clothes don't come clean, and don't smell freshly cleaned either!

We have to use the MAXIMUM SETTINGS on the WASHER to get our clothes FRESH AND CLEAN! WOW WHAT A WASTE OF ELECTRICITY, WATER & MONEY!

WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS WASHER FOR ANYONE AT ALL. ITS HORRIBLE.

IT ALSO SHAKES THE FLOOR VIOLENTLY, AND BOUNCES AROUND ON ITS SPIN CYCLES. A VERY LOUD AND NOISY MACHINE WHEN THIS HAPPENS.

OUR ADVICE? NEVER BUY THE MAYTAG NEPTUNE!

LOVE IT! NEW
by: Anonymous

Had my machine for nearly 10 years now and no troubles at all until now. My son keeps leaving guitar picks in his pocket and we've had to clear them from the pump. I have been super happy with it. As per other reviews saying it shakes the floor violently...nope. It's balanced and the quick load is great for lightly dirty items like sheets. They all get clean no matter where the water comes in from!

Cure smelly clothes
by: Anonymous

To rid the washer of the mildew smell, run a white load with a little clorox every 5 or so loads, and clean the door when it feels gritty. Do that a few times and everything smells great. They say to leave the door open between loads, which i do, but it is not enough to get rid of the mildew alone.

We have tried everything and can not get rid of the mold/mildew problem in the washer. Unfortunately, we bought the new model thinking after the recall they would have fixed this problem. Never will I own another Maytag product!

A lot of money for smelly clothes
by: Anonymous

I purchased this machine from Lowes in 2006 thinking i had a great deal, was i wrong. The machine is very loud as so many others have said. For the cost of these machines you should be able to count on many years of reliable service, and a company that stands behind thier product. The washer made a very loud noise one night ,there was a cloud of smoke and horrible smell. A piece of the door diaphragm got torn off.It worked ok for a couple of days and then stopped with a washer full of clothes and water. After i was able to get the door to release and scoop out the saturated clothes i had to take out the water pump which was full of melted plastic clumps. I found out that the clothes drum was quite out of round, which caused it to rub against the side and melt the plastic into clumps which got stuck in the pump.It is supposed to be a large capacity and we don't fill it up all the way,so how does the drum get bent? Good luck to all of us who have bought this piece of junk.

loud wash machine
by: Anonymous

I made mine stop making all of those noises by getting it as level as possible. Then I took a hotel PVC card folded it half and wrapped it in duck tape. The duck tape stops it from sliding out, when you start washing.
You then take the card and put it between the front panel and side panel (I put mine on the right side) may need screw driver and hammer. Use the flat head screw driver to open up a place on the side of the machine to slide the card into. Then you may need to hammer it flush, so you don’t see it. This has been working for me and my machine for over a year. Don’t understand please e-mail at downsfootball@yahoo.com.

Shattered door
by: Anne

Mine was fine right up until this morning when I decided to throw only half a load in of towels and t-shirts while I was cleaning up the kids toy room. When I heard a very loud and almost scary sound coming from the laundry room. After searching to see exactly where this sound came from I heard it again. Except this time I was standing infront of my washer only to realize that the glass on the inside of the door had shattered. Looks like all my laundry is garbage now and I hope it won't be a fight to get it replaced at their cost.

The WORST ever
by: Lisa

I have replaced my drain pump 4 times from the stray coin going through the wash. How silly that there is nothing to prevent this from happening. Now I have clothes that are being held hostage by the washer. Now it isn't getting any power. None! Can't even open the door to get the clothing out. Called Maycrap today and went through the trouble shooting and the clothes are still trapped. She thinks maybe it is electrical???? The part is close to $300 and non refundable if that is not the problem. UGHHH!!!!!!!!! This is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen. Now with the $250 I have spent 4 times on the drain pump and this nearly $300 I could have bought this washing machine all over again. Not even going to fix it, I am going to take that money and buy a new washer and nothing that is made by Maycrap. Including amana, whrilpool, roper, ect. I am so annoyed!

Worst machine we've ever owned
by: jaycee

This machine has been nothing but trouble since day one. There should be a class action law suit filed against Maytag for selling this machine. First of all I agree with everyone concerning the vibration and the machine moving across the floor. A tech came out and installed a new control board and leveled the machine. The problem still exists. Now the machine gets an E3 error code periodically. I'm going back to the top load and I'll never purchase a Maytag again.

this is the worst machine ever!
by: Anonymous

I will never buy a maytag product again. I spent about 1300. on this piece of junk. Coins get from the washer, into the drum and find their way into the water pump. Maytag must not have tested this machine very well. Also, the rubber seal is a mold trap. when i pulled the seal foward and looked at the underside of the drum I couldnt believe the build up of mold and gunk. This machine is going in the trash and I am replacing it with a LG TOP LOADER. No one could ever convince me front loaders are any good.

possible fix
by: BBJ

(Machine vibrates on spin cycle; moves across the floor;knocking sound lower front side): Went to hardware store and bought black rubber chair tips similar to crutch tips (1 1/4" dia.) Trimmed height to 1/2 to 3/4". Put front feet of machine into rubber tips. Then looked on right front of washer where it connects to the cabinet side. Inserted a table knife into junction, crack;then used a small screwdriver spread crack enough to insert cardboard into it to act as shim. Leave cardboard in the crack between the front panel and side. Remove the table knife. Move the machine to be level and not on any floor cracks or grout lines. This may work.

Home Depot Should be Ashamed
by: Anonymous

The Maytag brand name is now synonymous with deceit, corrupt and inferior quality. Some pinhead at Maytag decided to go cheap in order to capture a short-term net income gain. What a pinhead strategic decision. The Maytag loyal customers were willing to pay extra for 10 to 15 years of worry-free laundering. I am also disappointed in Home Depot for selling me the Maytag Neptune front loading machine. After reading other comments, posted by other unsatisfied customers, Home Depot knew full well they were selling a lemon. I’m assuming that Maytag increased the incentive for Home Depot to sell. Both companies have now lost my business and I’m posting my dissatisfaction across the web.

broke down
by: Cheney

I loved this washing machine from the time I purchased it until recently. It now vibrates so badly that you can't be in the same room with it. It has also started to leak water. This machine was purchased July 4th 2005 so it is just over three years old. I paid about $1000.00 for it.

I had a repair man out to look at it and of course it was behaving itself while he was there. He checked the bearings and said they were fine but the cases get loose and start making noise after time. He was not kidding. During the spin cycle, you can literally put a finger on one spot and it will get instantly quite. If you let go, it sounds like a pnuematic gun.

I've tried taping it, putting some padding in it, they never last more than a couple of wash cycles. He said the leak was probably the seal and the last seal he replaced ran $450.00. I can seriously buy a new top load machine for under the repair costs. He also said that front load machines are a joke and should not be made.

I have a local guy that repairs all of my major appliances but he refuses to touch the front load washer. Wow, I guess I can figure I paid $333 a year to own this machine because I will not pay $450 to replace a seal that will never be right again.

Maytag problems cost too much
by: WW

Bought the Maytag washer/dryer from Lowes(they were glad to get rid of them) a few years ago thinking I got a 15 year no fuss cloths cleaning duo. Problems abound. The shaking, the loud banging, the lousy rinse cycle, the mold on the ring seal, and on and on. We also have them mounted on the drawer stands so the shaking is really bad. I will never buy Maytag again!

Recalled Maytag/Sears knew and sold anyway
by: sheila

My understanding is that Maytag recalled the units (related to lawsuit/settlement)that were sold, but continued to sell the remaining units until they were gone. If you bought your unit after the recall you are just out of luck. When I called Maytag within a month of buying mine, I was told the only offer was to purchase an extended warrenty and when I questioned the recall the supervisor told me point blank "buyer beware information is posted all over the internet. (They did offer to send me a free brush because they had issues with mold accumulating in the seal.) I take some responsibility because I should have done more research before hand or after I went in to purchase. The Sears salesperson was all about this Maytag machine but when I purchased the washer the manager was very insistant that I purchase the extended warrenty. He even commented that I should not call him if there were any issues with the washer. While I purchased every appliance I owned(just like my parents) from Sears in the past, I can't hardly even walk through the store now to get to the Mall because I feel like they were aware of the problem but continued to sell the inventory. When I complained Sears was less than caring and told me I should discuss with Maytag. Of course I'll never purchase another Maytag Brand again either.

6 months is all it worked for
by: Anonymous

We bought this washer and dryer pair because it had the name Maytag attached from Lowes. It worked fine for about 6 months and then started making a loud and horrible noise (sounded like the stainless steel tub had boulders in it). Repair person came to fix but first acted like he did not know what the problem was so he had no parts and it took forever to order and get the repair company that they used to come back and actually work on the machine.

The repair guy said the tub was bent and that caused the loud noise. Well it was quiet for the remainder of the warranty and lo and behold the boulders returned. When it spins, lock the doors because the washing machine will take a trip headed outside. Now the fabric softner dispenser does not dispense and spots are found on some pieces of clothing after a cycle of washing. I had a top-loading washer that was fifteen years old and the only problem with it was the knob broke off. Had I known then what a piece of crap Maytag Neptune is, I would have purchased a washtub and rub board cheaper that what I paid for this crap. Yes Maytag I said it. Crap!!!!!!!

don't buy it
by: BogalHarvick

After using for half a year, the washer drum started to violently shake around and scratch on something on the inside. The entire washing machine SHAKES a lot. I put a heavy weight on top to keep it still.

Later a softener dispenser quit working. Replaced twice, and now it broke again. Wouldn't dispense fabric softener into the machine.

When service mechanic came, he said the violent shaking was normal, all machines do that. Looked at dispenser said it works perfect. Well, its still broken.

Its now going to be my 5th time calling them. Technical Support service is good (1-800-4MY-HOME), but service guys are NO good.

DON'T BUY IT

motor keeps breaking
by: Anonymous

I purchased the Neptune at Home Depot on June 2005 and the machine started giving us problems this July. Two different Appliance shops and 10 different Techs have replaced 2 motors and now we are waiting for a control board to be replaced. The date is now Sept. 16,09 and hope that that will fix the problem.

G.E. has the service extended contract and we have had the worst time in our lives to even get them to answer telephone calls.

within the first year of spending $1200 on this machine the glass shattered on the front loader and I have had nothing but trouble ever since...the pump went, it wouldn't spin right and now they replaced the motor but I need new bearings and an electronic control...which is going to cost me $261.97 with a 50% discount....I have paid over $500 in labor and another $50-$100 at the laundry mat every time it breaks

I will never buy another maytag again.....so much for going green..more like burning green

A freight train inside my house!!!
by: Joey

I bought this washer 3 years ago from Sears and was highly recommended by their salesperson (of course, they'll say anything to make a sale); and after 6 months of use, it started to shake so violently that you can feel the vibration throughout the whole house. The banging sound sounds like a pneumatic gun or a jack hammer pounding inside the machine. The entire machine shakes violently and if it wasn't for my floor overspill tray (washer is on the 2nd story), it probably would've walked out of the laundry room already. It really feels like you have a big, angry gorilla stuck inside the machine and is about to burst out of it and give you his piece. I'm surprised that the machine hasn't exploded already. I've learned to live with it but when I moved to a new town home, I share one common wall with a neighbor that I can no longer ignore the problem. I had Sears technician come out 6 times already and at first they said that it's normal. Now they think I'm that stupid. The same person came out and finally ordered an inner stainless tub that up to now are being refused to be installed by other Sears technician. 4 other technicians told me that it was my floor. Now tell me; how can it be my floor when the house is brand new and I have been living in it for only 2 months? I had the builder rep come out to inspect the floor and said there was nothing wrong with my floor. Again, the washer is on a second story of my house and it's sitting on a 1- 1/4 glued and screwed sub-flooring. Even after 2 technicians saw the machine walked, it still wasn't enough to convince them that it was my defective washer. The last guy that came out danced his way out of working on the machine. Again, they blamed my flooring environment. He said that if it was sitting on a solid concrete slab, I wouldn't feel it shaking. Well, of course! The last time I felt my concrete floor shake was the last time we had an earthquake in California. If there was no severe vibration to begin with, there would be nothing that will resonate across a wooden structure. The floor is only reacting to the severe vibration and not the other way around. My floor is not the source of the vibration.
I will NEVER, EVER BUY a Maytag appliance again in my life and will tell all of my friends and relatives. I AM WARNING YOU GUYS AS WELL FROM PATRONIZING MAYTAG appliances. AS FAR AS SEARS, I HAVE THE WORST EXPERIENCE WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REPAIR TECHNICIANS. I paid extra $$$ for a peace of mind when I purchase the extended warranty. But all it brought me was a big headache that gets no relief everytime I hear that banging sound. What a joke and a piece of garbage!

I can't believe what a piece of garbage this "washing" machine is!! We started having problems with it after 3 months, repair guy came once every other month to remove "something" from the pump!!! How is change allowed to make it down into the pump, ridiculous!! The last time they came they said the repairs were not covered because we were "neglecting" our washing machine, seriously, we need to wipe down the ring around the door, that is why change is getting stuck in the pump and eventually will burn it up!!! Do I hear CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT>>>>>> contact me at heidiann2000@yahoo.com if you are in!

problems
by: Bruce

Bought this from Lowes. When it was being installed they ripped the laundry room vinyl. They replaced it and the legs on the washer. 2 months later called the Maytag Repairman. Machine hammering in spin. He installed over $600 in parts. 3 months later we called him again. He added another $700 in parts.

A few months later after we could stand it no more we had him back, more parts. We have an extended warranty from Lowes. They sent a local repaiman. He lifted the washer front by one hand while it was spinning and said that the frame bolts were loose.

He tightened them and the hammering stopped but the loud noise in the spin cycle remains. He says "They all do that". Calling them again for the 4th time for the same problem. Contract from Lowes says they will replace after 4 service calls for the same problem. We'll see. Maytag = Garbage.

not rinsing properly
by: Anonymous

Sorry, but nothing but trouble from the start. We bought a front-load Maytag based on reputation and a desire to help the environment. WRONG! We have not been able to cleanly rinse soap out of our clothes without running 2 or 3 cycles. What a waste of water, energy & our time! We follow all instructions, having called in a few times.

We turned off the water softener, we even run clothes through without soap! Every time it gets to the rinse cycle at about 10 - 11 min. to go, it rotates more vigorously than any other time during the cycle. This creates a tremendous amount of soap suds (like it should during the wash cycle).

Then it stops abruptly and begins to drain, leaving the soap suds on top of the clothes. The first repairman said all was working normal, and that we probably had a year's worth of soap embedded in our clothes.

How can we get it out if it won't rinse properly? We are waiting for Maytag to come on Monday and we'll see.

Awful Product
by:

Do not buy this product. I have had my washer for 3 years and it does shake violently. At first the washer started showing no drain on the panel. Then after a few months it started draining again. Next I notice a black residue on all clothing after each wash and a smell. I did exactly what the manual said for cleaing your washer and odor control. The problem continued to get worse. When I called the service repair person, the 1st gentleman who did nothing at all. The 2nd service repair person was very helpful. However, due to the mold and mildew in the tub around the outside of the washer. It would cost $700 to fix since this is not covered under warranty. What a waste of $2000.

Shakes Violently and Moves Across Room
by: Anonymous

I have had this washer for 4 years. After 2 years it started to shake violently. The first repair person said it was our floor. After the machine starting literally walking across the floor during each and every spin cycle, we called again for service. I was immediately told it was my floor. They told me I could "test" this by placing a bowl of water on the floor in front of the washer to see if it shakes. The water in the bowl did not move - not even a ripple. The repair guy showed up and immediately said it was my floor before even looking at the machine. After insisting it was not my floor he ordered and replaced the control board with a new version that includes a motion sensor. (This tells me Maytag knows they have a problem!) It still did not completely fix the problem. Now it only moves 2 feet instead of 3. I am being told again that it is my floor and there is nothing I can do except to have my floor reinforced. Are they kidding? I have to do construction on my house so my washer doesn't leave the laundry room. I was also told that these machines are only designed for use on a solid concrete floor. I wish someone had told me that before I spent over $2000 on a washer and dryer! Bottom line...don't buy this machine unless you are putting it on a concrete floor.
