There is always scope in the living room to implement great living room arrangement techniques. The living room in the home tends to be the center place of the family life. It’s the place where the family relaxes, unwinds and simply enjoys being a family. This results in a lot of stuff gathering here. Kids bring in their toys and grownups bring in their work all adds up to piles everywhere!

First thing to do is decide what things you want to have permanently in the family room. This place is usually the entertainment center, so make a decision on how you will store the families music and movies.

There are plenty of all in one units which can store the stereo, TV and other gadgets – although they can be pricey and take up a lot of room. The cabinets are a good idea if you haven’t planned to change the layout of the room. Although smaller and more portable furniture may be more desirable if you are changing the layout of the room.

There are numerous styles of storage racks available to store movies and music. There is the option of simple wooden cabinets and bookshelves all the way to funky more modern metal units. They can come as free standing units or be attached to the wall. A closet is great idea to store things if you have young children who have the tendency to use the videos as building blocks!

Allow kids to have some of their best toys in the family room. You could give them a box or container with their name on or favorite color. Let them keep just enough toys in the room that will fill the box. If they can’t manage to squeeze the toys in the box then they will have to find a home in their rooms for it. They can change the toys in the box but just must remember that if anything doesn’t fit then it can’t stay. At the end of the day they can put their toys back in their own box.

The last thing to do is make a home for the magazines and newspapers which mount up on the floors and tables. Just a simple rack perhaps on the wall makes a perfect place for these items. It also makes it easy to clean out every month.

The living room is a place for the living so we don’t want to create a sterilized atmosphere, but you don’t want things to turn into a jungle either!
