LG Tromm WM2277 Washing Machine

by Briana Hagler
(San Diego, California)

I absolutely love this front load washer! The construction and build is amazing, and my clothes get so clean. It is the perfect capacity, not too big, not too small, just right. In the past, I have had to deal with noisy washers. But since I bought this washer two years ago, I have not had to worry about all the noise.

Also, this washer is very water and detergent efficient, yet it still gets the job done. It feels great to know that I'm saving water and money since I don't have to buy detergent as often. I have also noticed that it doesn't take as long for my clothes to dry, as they are practically dry after the spin cycle.

The spin cycle is vigorous and causes the machine to vibrate more than I would like, but it has not harmed my clothes in any way so I am fine. The control panels are easy to navigate and the washer just looks nice because it has such a modern design. This washer has so many amazing features. My personal favorite is the pause feature. It is perfect if you need to leave your house for a little while and don't want to have the washer running unattended.

It is also great if you need to add last minute items to the cycle. Also, there are so many different cycles to choose from, including a wool/silk washing cycle, something my old washer surely did not have. I also love that this front loads washer has a childproof lock.

It feels good to know that my children are safe around this washer. I only have one minor complaint: it takes a little longer for the washer to complete a cycle. It takes almost an hour, whereas my old washer was done within 30 minutes. However, it does take less time to dry my clothes and I noticed that my clothes are softer and less faded.

This LG washer is worth every penny and I would not trade it for anything in the world. I can only hope for longevity with this washing machine. I am one satisfied buyer!

Doesn't last as long as they used too
by: Anonymous

Purchased the unit new along matching clothes dryer due to advance design and energy efficiency.

The dryer never worked satisfactory.

Really enjoyed the washer's performance, until it broke last week. Washer motor and wiring harness burned out after only 3 years and 3 months. Gonna cost a minimum of $500 to repair and have to wait on parts for 9 days.

Went down and bought me a manual (no digital electronics) Maytag, plain jane, top loader. It might not be high tech, but I can't afford $850/year for a washer and dryer.

Aren't these supposed to last 15 years? My old units did.

Wrinkles, wrinkles, wrinkles
by: Anonymous

I have also noticed the moldy smell but what brothers me most is that fact that everything comes out so wrinkled. And, don't even think of washing something acrylic in the machine it's destroyed.

makes smell
by: Anonymous

I purchased a set of sleek black LG front load washer and dryer from Best Buy. I decided to go with a front load washer because of it's low usage of water.

I have been very pleased with the cleaning capabilities of the front load LG and am impressed by the small amount of water it does use. There is no setting for size of load. It somehow measures the amount of clothes in the washer and then knows how much water to use.

I have used regular detergent although it recommends the HE low sudsing type of detergent. I have also purchased this type of detergent as well. I do not notice any difference in the two.

Although it touts that it is very quiet, I would not describe it as such. It is perhaps less noisy than a regular top load washer, but I would not describe it as ultra quiet.

Another - and I would say the most annoying - factor that I definitely do not like is the smell. Yes, I said smell. Because this is a front load washer, residual water seems to settle in the rubber gaskets around the door.

As time passes, this water gets stagnant and begins to smell very moldy and musty smelling. I periodically wipe out this area and occasionally run bleach through a cycle.

I also sometimes leave the door standing open which seems to lessen this effect.

SPIN CYCLE
by: Anonymous

I have been having trouble with my LG front load machine lately. I get an error code of LE (L looks more like a broken 6). This will happen at anytime during the cycle. Trying to figure it out, but in the meantime, I was able to access only a spin cycle. With the machine off, push in the initial start button (mine on left side of cycle dial) and adjust the "spin speed" button up or down. There you have it, a "spin cycle" only. Took trial and error to figure this one out.

Still trying to figure out why my machine goes into error mode.

Handles giant loads with ease
by: Steven Grant

The Tromm WM2277HS is a massive beast with tremendous cleaning power and sufficient size to handle the largest bedspreads and mattress covers. My wife suffers terribly from dust allergies, so we needed a big washer that would make the job of washing all the heavy bed spreads and mattress covers as simple and effective as possible.

The Tromm is able to handle these giant loads with ease. It has a direct drive system that can power through loads that we have to stuff into the machine with both hands and a foot.

The Tromm also has a sanitary cycle which can really burn out the dust mites and microscopic dust particles that are the real nemesis of allergy sufferers. The controls are generally easy to use and a wide range of custom settings can be selected from the front panel.

We only experienced two issues with the machine. It is very important to dry out the front rubber seal after each wash with a towel. You must get down into the cracks and crevices to pick up all the water that collects at the bottom of the door seal. If you don't take a few moments after every day of washing to dry this seal, then mildew and mold will rapidly collect.

We also found it necessary to prop the front door open all the time when the machine is not in use or the same problem will arise, even if the rubber seal is dried at the end of each day.

When we called Tromm, very early on to ask about the water in the front door, the very knowledgeable representative immediately said we need to dry this area any time the machine was going to sit empty for a time.

The other problem is a bit trickier. We often wash sleeping bags in the machine, which are huge when they're dry and very small when they're wet. The spin cycle on the Tromm detects when an unbalanced load is in the machine, attempts to correct the imbalance automatically, but then shuts down if the load doesn't balance after a few tries. These bags almost always unbalance the machine. If you don't reset within a certain period of time you can't initiate a spin cycle to get the water out of the bags.

We've looked and looked, but there doesn't seem to be a way to launch a spin cycle without going through the entire washing process over again. So, we have to catch the unbalanced load at the right point, add some more towels to offset the imbalance and then let the load go through to completion. Seems like there should be a way to re-balance and then just spin a load to completion.

Anyway, we love the machine and would strongly recommend it to anyone doing giant loads on a regular basis that needs a real work horse to pull those dirty loads out of the hamper and back onto the nice clean bed.
