Kenmore HE4

We purchased our gas Kenmore HE4 dryer from Sears in December 2005.


We have six children and do many loads of laundry a day, so we needed a dryer that was heavy duty and would last a long time.

The Kenmore HE4 dryer is a front-loader with 7 cubic foot capacity, and is designed to dry large laundry loads quickly and efficiently.

We can dry a heavy load of denim jeans (8-10 pairs) in 70 minutes!

Some of the advanced features are:

-"Wrinkle Guard" feature dries clothes practically wrinkle free. Nice for cotton shirts and sheets

-"Moisture Sensor" detects how much moisture remains in the laundry load and then turns off dryer when it senses clothes are dry.

-Nine Cycles with Six Temperature Settings

The dryer came with an in home, one-year warranty to cover parts and labor. We purchased an additional five-year extended warranty. The extended warranty includes a yearly “checkup” in which a technician comes to the home and cleans and services the dryer at no additional cost.

After 3 years of heavy duty use, we have only had to call for service once. The main fuse that powers the burner blew out.

I love our dryer and hope to have it many years to come!

Awhile ago I was reading an article or post in your website about mold and front loading washers.
Our family of 6 purchased a Kenmore Elite HE4T eight years ago. HE liquid soap used from day one, door often left open when not in use,
and baking soda used often. Laundry room started to smell within the first year. We tried everything except cleaning it after each use........that's unrealistic and trending to the insane side with a family if 6!
Anyways, the machine started to make noises on the spin cycle last week. Pulled the back panel, rear tub bearing failure. Ok, to change the bearing requires a total tear down.....that's what I did! Upon tub removal, sludge and mold noted. Then I removed the shaft assembly from the tub, I almost tossed my cookies! Between the shaft/spider assembly and the inner tub was about a pound and a half of sludge and mold. Not impressed, found the smell in the laundry room honey!!
Anyways, have lots of pics, contacted Kenmore/Sears, not in a hurry to admit to a horrible design for sure!

It appears I am not the only one with problems. No suprise. I am a single mother of 3 kids. I don't have a lot of $$ and thought I was purchasing the best one in the store a few years ago. WRONG! It is beeping all the dang time - not currently working at all. I had been able to limp it along for a couple months by unplugging the tempormental thing and I was okay with that. Now I must say - Sears can have this crap back! When does the average consumer get a break?

We bought this dryer because we wanted something reliable. Paid top money for it. We were wrong. This dryer sucks and after 5years. We had to replace the control board twice and the control panel ounce. Its starting to beep constantly again. Sears tells me i need another control panel which is pretty pricy. Time to cut my loss and get something else. This dryer is junk! Never buy a sears kenmore again!

kenmore elite digital displays for the washer and dryer products are known to be defective. why no class action lawsuit. another win for big business. fuck sears and whirlpool. throw the shit out and buy something else and save yourself a lot of time and money.

Re- not drying quick enough.. I found that the unit design allows the clothes to block the exhaust vent holes (front bottom of the drum) too much, blocking the air flow.
Try tipping the unit back just a little (1"). This will make the clothes 'walk' towards the back more (away from the vent holes). This worked great for us.. until now..
Now, we get the whole front panel dead problem.
The only button that works is the child lock.

You have to clean out the dryer every three weeks or so with a special brush that fits in where the filter goes, and cleans out any debris there.

Immediately we had Sears out twice becuase the dryer would not dry the clothes half as fast as the dryer we put to the curb. After the 4th year our machine began non stop beeping. St first, if you were to push the cycle buttons several times, it would turn on and dry the clothes/ However, the beeping was constant and driving us insane. Now the dryer does not work at all. No response to any pushed button. Of course Sears will offer to repair this if I buy a 1 YEAR warranty for $210. A known problem that they are side stepping. After the Sears saleman drilled it into me that the ELite HE4 Washer Dryer is the Very best machines on the market, I convinced my wife that this was a sound purchase. We paid out the nose to SEARS for the Elite HE 4 Washer Dryer set and another $500 for the fricken pedestals. Also have had severe F11 Faults with Washer............my wife is sooooooooooo pissed she refuses to walk into SEARS again. Not another cent to SEARS.

This was a great dryer until 4 years after I bought it, it started making a lot of beeping sounds, making its own decisions, and occasionally not working at all. The control board was changed, which changed its behavior somewhat, but still didn't make it right. The Sears people were unhelpful. At this point, it's not worth putting any more money into it. A huge disappointment, typical of Sears: their stuff is either very good or very bad. I have seen many other complaints about this dryer online.

we are very unhappy with this dryer. it takes twice as long to dry anything. the service man we had come out told us this is a common complaint with this unit. it is not saving us money or time.
