Kenmore Elite smartwash QuietPak 9

I believe that this washing machine is one of the best ones I have ever owned. I bought it from Sears about about three or four years ago. We have had it ever since, and it has not messed up since I bought it. The detergent is a special high efficiency type that helps you not have to buy near as much. Also, this washing machine makes it where you use not as much water as others do.

It has a very large capacity that lets you hold a lot more clothes so you will not have to wash more loads in that week. Which will lead up to not using more water, too. It also has many options that you can choose to use on your specific kinds of loads.

For example, if you are washing whites, it has a setting called Whitiest Whites. It has at least five different settings to wash on. These washers have different colors to choose from so you can match it up inside your house. It even comes with a drawer in the bottom to store the washing detergent or bleach in.

I also like it a whole lot because it has not messed up yet. Yes, I have only had it for a about four years but all the others I have had have messed up before then. Others I have had no telling how many problems with. This one has many options for changing the water temperature. Plus, it has a Custom Program that lets you choose what you thinks best for your clothes. It has a different spin cycle that you can adjust, too. I have notice, also, that it helps get stains out really well.

Sometimes I do not even have to spray anything on my clothes to get the stains out. I just throw it in the machine, and I let it do its work. The door swings open very wide which helps me a lot when I try to put a large load in. Compared to my previous washers this one blows them out of the water. I would rate it at least with an eight no question about it.

Great machine for the last 9 (nine) years. Now control panel is double lighting (warm & cold / cold & cold) so I'm not sure what's going on... any suggestions appreciated.

Kenmore Elite is horrible NEW
by: Anonymous

Unbelievable problems with flooding. Can't leave door closed as it'll mildew but leaving it open results in chance of flooding. Even with the water turned off. Never ever by this product. Flooded so many times now we just leave towels in place to catch the water until we can replace. A total waste of money.

Kenmore Smartwash Quietpak 9 NEW
by: Anonymous

I rent and this is the washer in my home. I actually really like it but like many started getting the F11 error code. I found a blog that explained how to clear error codes which I did and it worked great for a bit now getting same code. After researching it said once you remove the front panel there is paper work attached to the inside left wall of washer. I looked and woohoo! it was there and had never even been taken out of plastic sleeve. It explains all error codes and how to clear and/or trouble shoot. Of course if all this fails the tech is the last resort. I hope this helps some of you! Good Luck!

8 years

I am writing because I have not seen any reviews that show the long term uses. I purchases the washer and dryer in desert orange (cool color) in 2005 from the dent and ding Sears in St Petersburg, fl. The dryer is still going strong, but the washer has now started to give us issues. About a year ago we started receiving a F6 fault on the final spin. No big deal because it only happened once in a while and we only had to hit the center button to continue it. But with in the last month or two I have been limited to 1-2 loads a day. I only wash on the weekends so I have had to change up my washes to a every other day event. Its not so much of a issue until this Holliday weekend (thanksgiving 2013). I researched and found that it is a communication issue that shows the tachometer is not reading the correct RPM's of the motor. This indicates that the control board is not reading correctly, or the motor is going bad and the control board is infact reading correctly. (never really had a problem with the mildew smell, but i run a cup of vinegar thru the washer every 3-4 months.)
SO THIS IS PRETTY GOOD IN MY EYES FOR A 8 YEAR OLD MACHINE FROM THE DENT AND DING SEARS, and I have moved 4 times in the last 8 years. I think I will be purchasing a new one simply because of the age of my washer and the possibility that it may cost much more than i want to pay to get it fixed.
I really hope that my next one is this reliable. But I guess we will see, because there is no money in reliability for the manufacturers in this day and age.

Sears Elite 9 Quiet pack
by: Debbie McGill

This is the worst washing machine I have ever owned. First the rubber band is defective within the first 3 years. Cost of the band over $100.00 plus labor.

The computer panel on the machine is defunct with signals which requires a new computer panel within 5 years.

I have read about the mildew smell and concur it is a design defect. Top loaders complete their spin effciently with out the need to keep the door open.

Avoid Kenmore at all costs. I admit I am a huge fan of Kenmore dishwashers.

Danger! Floods washroom
by: Anonymous

The washer is prone to flooding the wash room for no apparent reason, even with the water turned off.

I don't know what's happening, but the washer seems to pool a large quantity of water inside (1 or 2 gallons). This water will sometimes get dumped out the front without warning even when the washer is off. Shutting the water off does not prevent this.

Don't place this washer in any area you don't want to get wet.

F 11 and DL problems
by: Anonymous

I've been getting those little stupid DL and F-11 codes and the washer door locks and WILL NOT OPEN.
I'm going go and get a new one and noth even bother to get it repaired becuase the repair person said it is going to atleast cost 600.00 because of bearings.I was able to still run it but not now. I had this problem for a while but whenever it felt like it would work but now my clothes are locked in the stupid machine. I just do not know what to do.

Lousy Wash Machine
by: Clamdigs

The bearings on our Sears "Elite" washer are going out, making the loud noise that some of the other posts complain about. There is nothing Elite about this product in fact quite the opposite. Bought in 2008 and less than 5 years old when this problem started happening. Obviously it's not under Warranty any longer and soon to give out. When it spins it sounds like a jet is taking off from the basement where the washer is located - beyond obnoxious. Next wash machine won't be from Sears (whirlpool) or any other appliance I purchase for that matter.

Kenmore Elite queit Pak 9
by: Anonymous

Well, anoth casualty of Sears washers here. The drum and bearing went. I had purchased this washer in 2006. the only problem I have had was socks caught in the drain.

I called Sears repair and they sent a service person with a few days. In tots,l my cost is $330 parts and labor plus original service call. I decided to fix itat that price as I have the matching dryer and I would hate to have a mismatch being that they are on elevated stands.

Problem is this parts on backorder for two weeks. Evidentally this is a BIG problem and the parts are flying off the shelf.

I would like to think I will get another 7 years out of my washer.

Not to bad

I know there are a lot of people saying that theres sucks and is terrible and what not but honestly I have never had an issue with my Kenmore. Its done great I am a mother of 2 and my husband works outside in the street for the city in which we live and it has held up good through all the messes. we bought just the washer in 2010, now 3 years old. and they only problem I had was the f35 code. basically the tube from were the soap dispenses into the load wasn't fully cleared of soap so it wouldn't continue to push water out. I had the repair dude come out and it was about 3 days after I initially called and I have the repair warrenty thingy or whatever its called and it was well worth it. I do belive most of the negative reviews are from sears buyers DIDNT want to buy from them but when I did look I went to best home appliances and they were exceptionally wonderful

bearing gone
by: Anonymous

Don't buy this hunk of junk, ours is a little over three years old - from the purchase day it would vibrate and is very loud on the spin cycle, when we called Sears (where purchased from) they told us this was normal. Slowly the bearing went, the machine got louder and any day now the machine will shut down. On spin cycle you can hear the bearing, or what is left of them, grinding. We will drive it to it's bitter end then put it out of it's misery because It will cost over $600 to repair, we paid $850.00 it. Not worth fixing at any cost.

DONT BUY THESE MACHINES!!!
by: Anonymous

First, for some little hints I never knew. The little manual that goes with this washer to tell you what all the error codes mean are taped to the INSIDE wall of the washer. I never knew that until I had a repair man come out and he left to go get a part. That is when I saw them taped to the inside. Next, I saw where somebody had to pry the door open because it was locked and would not release. You have to take the bottom front panel off, (UNPLUG THE MACHINE FIRST)reach up to where the door lock is, and you will find a little button you can push in and it unlocks the door.
I have had nothing but trouble with this machine. I paid $400 to get a new pump, only to find out that is not the problem. My stupidity for paying the crook that much money to begin with I guess. After he left I still have the same problem with error codes. The main one is the DL, door lock issue. Please, please everybody that is looking to buy one of these, DONT DO IT!!!!!

Piece of Junk
by: Very Dismayed

Bought this washer in Aug, 2008, so it's now 3 years and 4 months old. Last month started making a clanking noise on spin and clothes coming out wetter than normal. Turns out the bearing has gone out and needs a whole new bearing and drum assembly to the tune of $600. Only 3 years old!! We are a family of 3 so just normal use on this machine. This machine is actually made by Whirlpool so I'm shocked that it's junk. I won't waste my money on repair, will go with a unrelated brand.

6yr old unit - drum fell apart, motor broke, junk!
by: Anonymous

We bought this washer (and matching dryer) in 2006. No real problems until two days ago, when it started making a very loud noise on the spin cycle, vibrating much more than usual, and then wouldn't drain. Like Anonymous below, we've now learned that it shred the front outer drum and the pieces of shredded insulation have now ruined the pump. The repair cost is estimated at $850 for parts (including the new pump, inner and outer drum) and $350-$750 for labor. The service company said they'd never seen this drum issue in 30 years of servicing washers, commenting that it was like the inner drum was out of alignment (and telling me that there is nothing I could have done to make this happen).

Thankfully, we maintain a home warranty that covers all of our applicances (we like the one from Home Security of America - costs us $550 a year but covers the whole house, not just one applicance). They are paying for a like model replacement washer (we can pick out what we want and they will send us a check once we fax them a receipt).

Sears' washers are made by Whirlpool, so they no longer have the "Kenmore" quality from long ago. I am looking for a different brand replacement washer - Samsung and Bosch are both highly rated, so may start there. Very frustrating if I can no longer stack with my still working Kenmore dryer (which requird a $250 heating element replacement in Nov 2011).

I've been getting those little stupid DL and F-11 codes and the washer door locks and WILL NOT OPEN.

DO NOT GO NEAR THIS WITH YOUR MONEY.

I am NOT going to reward Sears with my money by buying a different model from them, instead I'm going to go to either Lowes or Home Depot to buy my new Washer & Dryer and would suggest you do the same if you don't want all of this frustration!

F 11 and DL problems
by: Anonymous

We just moved into our house and the washer and dryer were left by the original owners now see why. I can't stand them!! Takes 49 minutes to dry something and then I still need to add time to the dryer. The washer well if I can get it to work it would be great. I always get the message DL or F11. Without a manual I have no clue what the heck it is doing. Oh how I miss my washer and dryer from my old house. I would never buy these machine.

We got this washing machine about 4 years ago and have had no trouble at all. It works great, cleans great and is easy to use. Wish I had bought the matching dryer at the same time. We are moving and I have to sell it as I can't find the matching stack-able dryer. This washing machine has survived 4 teenage kids and 2 dogs. We wash it all and it keeps performing.

SEARS SUCKS, THIS MACHINE SUCKS
by: Anonymous

We bought this machine in 2004, along with a 5 year extended warranty. We had no problems until one year and two months after the warranty expired. It shred the front outer drum. We called and spoke with several people at Sears, including the customer solutions department, who all said we could buy another warranty for $338 dollars, and if the machine was not fixable they would give a $500 voucher toward a new one. Are you kidding???? We were given the run around about the fact that we didn't have a warranty so there was nothing they would do. They did NOT care that they sold us a piece of junk! We bought an expensive machine thinking it would last a long time. There is much more I could say about the horrible service we received from Sears, but I don't have any more time to waste on this problem after spending two hours on the phone with them yesterday! Very frusterating...

DO NOT BUY
by: Anonymous

Just after the warranty run out we started having the thing others have complained about where the door would CLICK and lock and it would not wash but there were some cute little lights that blinked while a precious little BEEP would go-off continuously.

We finally had to take a crow bar to pry/break the door open!

We bought an Electrolux an have NEVER had a single problem in over a year now.

by: Anonymous

This is a great washer if I can go a year without a problem. We've had this washer (Kenmore Elite smartwash QuietPak 9) for close to 4 years and we have had a service man come out every year since. When you go to start the cycle, it merely clicks about the time it locks the door. I now truly believe the vibration of the machine is causing problems to an electronic board. (My initial thoughts was that a relay was stuck) Now, within the last 3 months, and only on an occasion, when NOT in use, the water fills the inside of the drum! If we don't catch it, which happened twice, it overflows all over the utility room floor. I just know if I call the service guy, it would work properly. I can't let the water sit because it very slowly will fill to the door and overflow. I will make a call sooner or later but been looking for things to check out first. Weeks can go by before the next occurence.
Anybody got any ideas?

Mine fills with water too! Just like you described yours does. Sometimes pulling the detergent drawer all the way out, removing it, and then putting it back in, helps. Weird, I know. Other times, I wash a load of clothes, and it fixes the problem. Mostly, I have just loved this machine, though.

This was sold to me a quiet machine. It was for about a year before it started to hum and serge and generally make more and more noise. I have the extended warrenty but the repair folks don't seem to know how to fix it and worse... they're trying to tell me it sounds fine. I'm getting tiered of calling and taking time to be home for the so called repair guy. I'm ready to pack it in but wonder how successfull I'll be at getting Sears to take it back. Very disapointed!

This is the washer NOT to buy
by: Jerry

I believe the GLOWING comment from the other user
is from a sears employee looking to make a sales commision or from a member of sears management; this washer has been nothing but a problem and you can forget sears "service/repair people" - and the customer "service" reps have been, in my experience, worthless... they read from a card or screen to try to get you to fix it yourself and if you can't, they may schedule a service/repair person (who it turns out is someone that is nothing more than a sub-contracted local repair person); oh, but you can buy an extended warrenty, but all that does is extends the time you can have additional chats with the CS rep/card reader and the local sub-contractor, not really money well spent.

I will NEVER purchase ANYTHING from sears again based upon my experience with this washer and in my opinion, you would be wise to look elsewhere's too.

You have now been informed and I hope this will save you from the nightmare of owning one of these.
