Kenmore Elite Quiet Pak2

by Deb
(Albuquerque, NM)

This machine gets clothes cleaner and is quieter than any I have owned before. I bought it because it is a front loader and uses less water. It is so quiet that my spouse has come into the kitchen (I have a laundry closet that is there) and said "I thought you were doing laundry" because he doesn't hear the machine going. The spin cycle can be a little noisy but even that is well below the noise level of other machines I have owned.

There are a larger variety of choices for washing cycles than on other machines I have used and I like the option of being able to create a manual cycle myself if I want to.

I use less soap, less water and less electricity. I get bright, clean clothes every time. I have had no repair issues since buying it in March of 2007. It is a great appliance and I recommend it highly.

I grew up with reliable Kenmore appliances in the 50's and 60's and I expect that this washing machine will last as long as my mother's did but it is much quieter, more flexible and has at least twice the capacity that hers did. What's not to like?

Oder....
by: Craiger

We bought our new home with this machine in place already. We love it. Only problem is that it has an oder. I had a plumber in to see if that was an issue on install. He said it was installed properly. My wife has added a small package of chemical for this oder but it wears off pretty quick. I read somewhere that it may be a rubber gasket that gets mildewed? Anyone know what is the problem and how to correct it?

Horrible Customer service on these nightmares
by: Anonymous

I have a Kenmore Elite Quiet Pak 2 that is fairly new ( less than 3 years) I have had nothing but trouble. I used to swear by Kenmore appliances, not any more. I have spend money on replacements (several hundred dollars now), had it repaired ( another nightmare of no-shows by Sears repairmen which took months), then had them call months later to re-schedule for a recall replacement. They never reimbursed us our expenses for the same part. Now it hasn't been working again, error message ( I think it is the same dl referred to above.) I have been trying to work around because I don't want to deal with it. Ugh!My next step is to call them again. I hate this washer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

quietpak2 He2 front loader
by: Lars Dias

I spent xtra to get what the salesman described as the best machine available, biggest poa I ever purchased.
2 computers replaced 7 visits from Sears authorized techs-3 missed calls-they require you to commit to a full day when they schedule you.
I will never even go into a Sears again I am so upset!
I can't get my clothes washed in under 90 minutes and they are soaking wet when they come out.
I am dragging this pile of junk to the street and put a free sign on it-I just may feel guilty that the poor sap who picks it up has to deal with this load.
Please don't buy from Sears

Quiet & clean
by: Mike

Have had this washer for over 5 years. Still whisper quiet and gets our clothes clean. Only complaint I have is that there are a couple places where water lays in between cycles and gets musty if it's not wiped dry.

Junk
by: Steven from Andover MA

This washing machine is so noisy I don't want to be in the house when it runs.

The first washer was essentially dead on arrival -- although the Sears installer said it was OK. It stopped working the first day. I'm not kidding.

The second one is so noisy when spinning you'd think a helicopter was landing on the roof. I've had it about two years. I'm so sick of it I just want to throw it out.

Piece of junk.

things get caught in the agitator
by: Anonymous

I have had Kenmore products in my home for 25 years and have always been happy with them but this machine drives me crazy!! Anything with any kind of string or strap I put in the machine gets caught in the agitator. I have ruined so many clothes in this machine. It is also supposed to be quiet but it clunks through the whole wash cycle.

Sears replaced my first one because of the noise and this one does it too. The service department was rather nasty when I called about my second machine and told me nothing was wrong with it! Unfortunately, I will not be buying another Kenmore.

blew up on me
by: Linda

Worst purchase I ever made! Paid $1,000 in 2006, has never worked correctly. Finally blew up in 2010. Sears customer service is more like customer abuse as they are very unfriendly, could care less about your needs and missed 2 appointments and forgot to call before showing up 2 other appointments, then wanted $400 to fix, paid it, didn't fix it, then wanted another $150 to fix another part... just a fiasco. We dumped it and got a Maytag!

Don't waste your time or money!
by: Barbara

You may have had this washer since 2007 but give it time, my husband an I have spent over 1500 additional dollars trying to fix this machine over and over. From door locks to power failures to the boot that holds the drum to the washer and the drum it's self. I too grew up with kenmore but the quality of merchandise and the quality of the sears customer service has changed since then. Now we are looking for a new Refrigerator since our Kenmore Elite Refrigerator needs a new control panel @ 600$. The tech from sears tried telling us the high end refrigerators are meant to be opened and closed all the time so thats why the temperature doesn't stay were it is supposed to, um really???? I then called a real appliance technician, who told me don't waste your money fixing this thing! he then left and I didn't have to pay him a dime! I also have a Kenmore stove only two years old, Day one, two days before thanksgiving, it had a major power failure and had to be returned.

true kenmore lemon
by: Fairbrother

After reading other reviews I can tell that this is a no win suitition. Have had 5 repair men out on this washer and each time I get the run around. I was informed that the 28 min. express wash that takes 54 min. to run was only an estimate of how long it would take. Hello, I'm 68 years old, and this ain't my first rodeo. It gauls me to no end that you put your trust into a name that you learned to trust over your lifetime, and when there is a problem, your hung out to dry. This is a true Kenmore Lemon. Shame on you for not being responsible for your products.

This machine is crap.
by: Anonymous

My husband and I bought this machine 2 years ago. We've had problems with it from Day 1!

It doesn't complete a cycle....the lights blink....we have to open the door up and push the clothes around...and only have the time does this work. It takes all day to do one load of clothes!

We have it level ...... and we even releveled it.

We've tried to do smaller loads....only sometimes does this work. This type of machine should be able to wash more than 1 blanket at a time! grrr....

I am so disappointed. We spent the extra money to get this machine versus a regular washer.....and it wasn't worth it.

I wish we would've just bought a regular washer. My old "regular" washer lasted us 10 years....after my grandparents had it for 8!

Garbage
by: Anonymous

This machine is crap. It is 2 years old and the door will not unlock. Even better, we have to wait a week before one of the repair men can get here. I have two kids and with H1N1, we are trying to keep things clean. Do not buy this piece of junk. Presumably the circuit board was outsourced to China--you get what you pay for.

maybe a good idea to avoid straps from getting caught in the adgetator part would be to wash those items that have straps in a pillow case that you can tie, or zip shut in the washer as long as it's a cloth pillow case the water will get to those items & wash them also, if you cant tie it shut maybe use a zip tie to zip tie it shut, or a piece of string?

kenmore elite quietpak2 he3
by: Anonymous

I've had this machine since 2005, & i still don't see how it gets clothes clean without having a scrubbing type cycle(the adgetation cycle like the top loaders have) from what i see when it runs it puts some water in & spins around,& around dispensing soap making it sudsy, & @ that same time i was told it extracts the soapy water out,& recycles it back in(using the same soapy water(which is how it uses less water) then eventually it extracts that soapy water getting rid of it then does the same thing again only using water not dispensing soap & reusing the same rinse water several times(saving on running fresh water in each time saving water) but i don't understand how that gets the clothes clean with out using a scrubbing motion/cycle/adgetation does anybody know & can explain it to me? i guess theres no way to let me know so nevermind but i do know it gets them clean because they are clean after being washed

So quiet
by: Anonymous

I have the same just Quiet pak4. We cannot hear it at all and I wash with the laundry room door open which is adjacent to all main rooms in the house. Cleans fantastic and I like the options. I leave buzzer alarms off for even more quiet. Just be sure to leave the washer door slightly open after washing to air out. This will prevent the having to clean the rubber gasket which some have complained of it getting mildewed. My sister has had the same one for several years and loves hers.

Nice and simple settings
by: Anonymous

I’ve had this washer for about 2 years now and so far it’s worked out great. It’s compact enough that it fits nicely and discreetly in my home.

The settings are simple to use and gives you options to select the type of clothes you’re washing – delicates/normal/bulky/handwash/etc. You can select the temperature and speed oftentimes, but depending on the type of clothing you’re washing, the presets can be limiting. As the name suggests, the unit is much quieter than most washers.

I like that I can “pause” the wash cycle, in case I forgot to add a piece of clothing or cancel the settings all together. Plus if time is an issue, you can select the signaling indicator to let you know when the wash is complete, or turn the signal off if you don’t need it.

I don’t like the fact that I can’t indicate the size of the load (therefore the amount of water possibly needed). So potentially a small load of handwashables is using the same amount of water for a large heavy load of clothes. This machine is energy efficient, I just don’t know if its water efficient.

2 complaints but overall i love it
by: Anonymous

I bought this machine about a year ago. All in all I'd say I am pretty happy with it. I only have 2 complaints so far, so I'll get that out of the way. First, I picked this machine based on the fact that Kenmore is a well known name in appliances, and this machine was the biggest in it's class. I need a large machine to fit my Queen size comforter with out problems.

After getting the machine delivered I promptly wanted to wash my comforter, and to my dismay I literally had to stuff it in. I was a bit nervous, and called them, and was assured that because it is a front loader, and washed things by shooting the water through the items, it would get clean. It did get clean(as far as I can see) but I learned that I had to put the machine on heavy duty for it to function as it is supposed to with that big of a load, and also make sure you use the extra spin button as well to get it a little more dry, cause the first time I washed it and opened the door it was sopping wet.

The second complaint that I have is the dial in which you have to turn to get your different setting is becoming difficult to turn. I am not sure if you have to only turn it one way, but I am afraid to turn it counter clockwise for fear of breaking it, but I did do it once and it seemed to move easier. It sometimes skips settings,a nd I have to go around again, because I do not want to turn it backwards. Hopefully this will be a warranty issue, as It's a pain!

Other than those two issues, I really LOVE the machine, it is pretty quiet, all though not as quiet as the first week we owned it, but far more qiet than my old machine or any machine I have owned for that matter. Feel confident in buying this Kenmore Elite, you can probably find it for less that I did.
