Kenmore Elite HE3 with QuietPak 2

by Monika Woods
(Martin, Georgia, United States)

I my gosh, I really like this washing machine. Not only is it exceptionally quiet, but it washes my clothes very well. It is a front load washer that is energy efficient and uses less water than top loading models.

There are some maintenance issues that one must follow, but they are simple enough. There are low settings, high settings, cold, warm, hot, extra spin, you name it.

You can turn the signal for the end of the cycle on or off. I can fit a huge blanket in to wash, or just do a small load of clothes.

Some of the negatives, I cannot do a large load of clothes like 10 pairs of jeans. For some reason this throws the machine off balance, so I only fill it about half way up unless I am doing a large blanket.

I have even washed my feather comforters in this machine. They come out clean and fresh.

The rubber on the seal must be cleaned, and I use vinegar once a month to clean it off because it gets mildew. This is normal and I do not mind at all. It is SO much better than the top loading machines that suck your socks over the edge and you never see them again.

Another caution is HE soap must be used. HE soap will not foam up and back up in the wash tube. My water bill actually went down when I bought this washer.

I bought it with the pedastal at the bottom, otherwise it would have been to low to wash clothes. Because I like this machine so much I do laundry almost every day.

I don't feel guilty because it only uses the water that it needs, and I am not filling a giant tub up. Without an agitator in the middle I don't have ripped clothing like I used to.

Average Machine NEW
by: SeanMc

We have had this machine just short of 9 years and the spider assembly broke causing the drum to become unstable. It would knock during the spin cycle. It costs more to fix than to buy a brand new one ($500 parts and about $250 labor).

When it was working it was a quiet machine but the level of cleaning left a lot to be desired. We do laundry approx. once per week

Whacky cycle with F code error NEW
by: #fixedbyMom

Love the machine, have had it for 8 years. It started behaving badly, getting stuck in the cycle, which caused us to pause it and restart it. Finally the F code error appeared. There are 11 F codes detailed in the service technician pamphlet on the inside of the side panel of the washer. Excellent and easy to use, very descriptive. You have to remove the back panel to get to it, but it was like finding a treasure map, enabling me to avoid a repairman. F02 is usually the first culprit, which displays when the drain cycle takes more than 8 minutes. You must check the drain pump filter in the front of the machine. Unplug the machine before attempting anything. Remove the small panel under the front washer door. It has only three screws. You'll need a hex screw tip. Unscrew the filter plug and expect a bit of water to come out so keep a towel nearby. Remove the filter and clear it of debris. You'll find more debris beyond the filter too, so use your hand to feel for it and remove it. Ours included a a mass of stinky lint, rubber lizard,, comb, lipgloss, underwire from a bra, bobby pins, candy wrappers, etc. We now check this filter regularly. If your washer stinks, the filter may have moldy lint in it and need cleaning!

AVOID NEW
by: Anonymous

Have had so many problems with machine, fix after fix. Last straw is that now the rubber lining has ripped and detergent leaked into my pedestal below.

We are tired of this machine. Need something reliable.

It worked fine for about a year, but the last 2 have been nothing but problems.

extra spin cycle NEW
by: Anonymous

I read the "article" about the Kenmore washing machine. I have had the washer/dryer pair for 3.5 years. The author mentioned an extra spin option, which I'd love to use, but can't find this. Can anyone help me with this? TIA

Practically waterless NEW
by: Anonymous

Had this machine for a couple of years. Hate it! It is because it doesn't use enough water! I can only wash a few items at a time maybe 4 or 5 because anything more will not be cleaned. What good is an HE kind of washer when you have to do several TINY loads? I once washed a small throw 50"x50" by itself and it didn't use enough water to wash it let alone rinse it! When I can, I will dump this washer for one that you can regulate the amount of water used for each load. No more of this HE kind.

anyone have a similar problem? NEW
by: franniegee

I have the quiet pak 2 and when I select a cycle, normal for instance, it starts as it is supposed to but after a moment, the time lights start blinking (usually shows 888) and I have to press start again-this cycle repeats itself from 2-3 to as many as 10 times til it catches. It doesn't always work on the setting I want, and I am forced to settle for any setting that will work. I also cannot customize settings such as temperature. Anyone have any similar problems, and if so, how did you resolve them? Many thanks!

HE3 Error Code F NEW
by: Anonymous

Used this machine for 5 years and beyond some sporadic issues, it has worked. There are some common issues that impacted our machine like the system board needed replaced early and while still under extended warranty. The other issues is that the soap/softener release not timed right, but we switched to the throw in tablets with that replaced the need to used the dispenser. Sometimes water gathers in the tub after sitting for a while, this probably a result of not having proper water flow because other units like the dishwasher running at same time. Finally the filter hidden in the bottom became clogged with a comb and lint from clothes probably causing a "F" code to display. Would have been nice to include a trap door so I wouldn't have to remove the three 7MM screws at the bottom of the front panel and lift the whole bottom panel out just to clean a filter. The door locking mechanism is a little tricky also, some have had to replace it but ours continues to work. There are some YouTube videos on the HE3 on the repair of most of these issues, if you want to take it on without an expensive repair bill. Machine works fine with some adjustments, many of the common issues can be repaired yourself even if you have an inkling of how to use some common tools.

leaking problem NEW
by: Anonymous

If your machine is leaking then try to thoroughly clean the soap/bleach dispenser unit. My problem with this machine is the smell. Ugh! I bought one of the first models that was produced. Sears/Kenmore is in a class action suit that has gone all the way to the Supreme Court. Sears did fix this problem with the newer models that it sells but too late for mine. :(

another unsatisfied customer of sears
by: Anonymous

I had problems with this machines within the first couple of months of buying it. I tryed to get it replaced but the repairman they sent out said he couldn't condemn it because he ran it through a cycle and couldnt see a problem. Well I showed him the bag of clothes it ruined due to detergent leaking onto the clothes improperly. There is not enough water to dilute the detergent from ruining your clothes. But he claimed he would lose his job if he wrote it was broke when it wasn't. Obviously it was not working right but Sears could care less. I have had it fixed at least 3 times and Iam always having codes flashing and have to figure it out myself because they are obviously no help at all. I will never buy anything from Sears again. I tryed today to get an estimate of what the repair would cost me because now the barrel inside won't spin. I knew exactly what the problem was and they couldn't do that. They said a man could come out for 80 dollars and tell me but that if I choose to have it fixed that money would not apply to the actual repair. They said they couldn't even give me a rough estimate. I guess you are suppose to have an open checkbook at all times with them. I just hung up and said I would figure it out on my own and that I have been figuring it out on my own since I bought the lemons. Iam going to throw it out and buy Maytag top loaders. Front loaders are a joke. At least the experience I have had.

This machine is ruining my clothes
by: Anonymous

So glad to find this website. I, too, am very frustrated with this washing machine. It puts out hot water when I wash on cold; everything I own is shrinking. Had it repaired several times, replaced parts; nothing has helped. I've tried turning off the hot water at its source, and the machine gives me an error code that it doesn't have enough water!! In addition, it continually stains my clothes--especially the light-colored ones--with what appears to be bleach stains, even though I do not use bleach. Repairman said I was using too much detergent. Well, I have been using about 1 tablespoon of HE detergent for the past 3 years now, and the staining still occurs. Can't afford a new washer at this time, so my family is walking around in shrunken clothes! Thanks Sears.

Kenmore Elite
by: Anonymous

I totally agree, was ripped off, terrible service when I had the extended warranty, now as a Single Mother of 2, I am trying to fix my machine. I recommended this Kenmore Elite to several of my friends after buying it, was so pretty, Ha! what a joke my friends will never listen to me again. Once again, I sit here with water running out of my soap dispenser and the entire floor soaked and leaking thru the floor into my sons room. Now I have drywall issues that will soon be molding, thank you to Sears and Kenmore for taking my tax dollars I spent of this piece of crap machine. They dont care we will be breathing mold due to the machine leaking.....Also had the board replaced 3 times, still messed up. The dryer the same, have installed new parts in it as well. Never buy again from Kenmore or Sears.

Big Disappointment
by: Anonymous

We too have been having problems with our washer, problems since day one . hole in the soap dispenser, glider fell off, electrical , error codes after error codes and now the main computer communication board is shot. On the third repair call with calling Sears under our "warrenty program" I was told by the store owner , where we bought the machine, to call Sears Customer line and request a new machine, because we obviously got a lemon. The lady on the phone was very condesending- stated" we do not replace items mame, we fix them". Now on our third year anniversary of purchasing this machine - the whole computer board has to be replaced. We have decided not to waste our time in calling Sears, we will purchase a regular , no frills machine that will not cost us through the nose and hopefully will not give us as many hassles and inconvenience.

The worse machine I have ever bought.
by: Tammy Sellers

I fell in love with this beautiful washer and dryer, paid four thousand dollars for them with their pretty pedestals; of course this included the extended warranty. Little did I know that within nine months of paying more for the pretty pair than some people pay for a second car, the washer would not work. We were so glad that we bought the warranty--that is until we called them! The first break down took over a month to get a technician to get a part and come out to repair. When he finally came it took him five minutes. We lost most of our clothes that time because they were mildewed before we could get any help. See I only have one leg and my husband is disabled,we are raising three of our grandchildren because their mother has MS and we were not able to pack everything up and go to a laundry mat. The company finally reimbursed us $100.00 which wasn't a drop in the bucket to what we lost, but they did tell us that if it happened again they would bring us another washer. WELL that was FIVE [5] break downs ago and guess what? They still have not replaced it!! Everytime it breaks we get to sit here and look at the pretty pair for days that stretch into weeks. They sit there quietly because the washer won't run!!! One problem after another. I thought we must have gotten a lemon but from what I am finding out--this is not the exception to the rule! I feel like an idiot for smiling while I threw away the money to purchase this WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A TOP OF THE LINE WASHER AND DRYER! WHAT A JOKE! KENMORE AND SEARS HAS LOST A GOOD CUSTOMER! I WILL NEVER-EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN!! I TOO TRIED TO GET THE NUMBER FOR THE HOME OFFICE--GUESS WHAT? I FIND THEY MUST NOT HAVE ONE BECAUSE NO ONE WILL GIVE IT OUT! I KNOW WHY, THEY HAVE TOO MANY COMPLAINTS. I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING TOP OF THE LINE; BOY WAS I ROBBED. THE ONLY CHOICE I HAVE IS TO FIND THE NUMBER TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND HOPE I CAN HELP GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THIS PRETTY PAIR. THAT IS THE ONLY POSITIVE THING I CAN SAY ABOUT IT.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THE PRESIDENT OF KENMORE AND SEARS KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEMS CUSTOMER ARE HAVING! THEY USED TO BE THE MOST REPUTABLE DEALERS; I MUST SAY WITH MACHINES LIKE THIS IT WON'T SURPRISE ME TO HEAR THAT THEY ARE OUT OF BUSINESS WHEN IT HAPPENS TO THEM; AND IT SHOULDN'T SURPRISE THEM EITHER. THEY CAN'T EXPECT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE LIKE THIS. I AM JUST SO FRUSTRATED TO BE TAKEN BY A COMPANY THAT I RESPECTED ALL OF MY LIFE, TRUSTED, AND BELIEVED IN. AFTER ALL, I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED IT FROM A FLY BY NIGHT OPERATION BUT NOT SEARS, NOT KENMORE! NO WONDER AMERICAN CONSUMERS DON'T KNOW WHO TO TRUST ANYMORE!

GOD HELP THE POOR WORKING AMERICANS WHO HAVE BEEN TAKEN IN BY THIS COMPANY!

RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED

Don't buy this one
by: Deb Lane

Don't buy one. Broke after 21 months of usage. First repair through the fourth repair and a months worth of trying to get it fixed. Every time the repairman said it was fixed and left, I would do my wash and the same problems occurred. 6F error code. Replaced parts etc. Repairman said he couldn't fix it.

Techs at Whirlpool wanted to keep replacing parts, but the repairmen said it still probably wouldn't fix it and not to waste our money. Sears informed us they wouldn't replace it but would reimburse us the costs of the four repairs.

They wanted to continue replacing parts. By the time we were done replacing the parts we would have more into it than what we paid for it. Enough was enough. It was suggested to me to write to Corporate headquarters and complain that I wanted a replacement. They would not give me a phone number.

Sears, Kenmore and Whirlpool have definitively lost a very good (consumer) customer.
