Kenmore 80 Series

by Todd
(Plano, TX)

THE BEAST!

I'm not sure how old, I would guess it was purchased around 1999 or 1998? So somewhere around 10 years old. I've NEVER had to provide any sort of maintenance or repair. The damn thing just keeps on working.

It's been moved from apartment to apartment to house to its current resting place. Up and down stairs, in the back of moving trucks, put in storage for several months and yet it keeps on working.

This is a large capacity washer so you can just throw everything in there at once and do only one wash. Of course you have to make sure it's balanced because if not, it does have a exorcist like shake that you will encounter if not balanced.

Clothes come out clean and fresh. Optional bleach pool is nice and also has always worked. 2 thumbs up. I hope it lasts another 10 years.

Sears Kenmore 80 series model number 110.26822690

by Jeff
(St Marys, GA)

We bought this washing machine from the local Sears outlet store in May 1997. We have had it for over 11 years and have had very little problems with it.

I had to replace the timer about seven years ago which was a very easy fix requiring basic hand tools.

The timer now sticks again but it sticks right before the rinse cycle so I haven't fixed it because that is when I put the fabric softener in. The machine has a seperate receptacle for softener but it has not worked since the machine was about a year old.

We bought this particular model because of it's large capacity. We could wash a lot more clothes at one time which saved us on electricity and water. This machine has several settings which control the amount of water used during the cycle.

When we bought the machine, we had two middle school aged children so we were washing a lot of clothes every week. Now that the kids have grown, we can use the smaller load option on the machine to conserve water.

This machine also allows you to select any water temperature for washing and rinsing. It has four speeds to select from for normal, heavy duty, permanent press and hang dry.

It has prewash and soak options and also has a second rinse option.

Overall we are very pleased with this machine the only downside of it is that it is not very quiet. I would not recommend this model for someone in a small house or apartment that doesn't have it's own laundry room that can be closed off from the rest of the house as this is a noisy machine.

KENMORE 80 SERIES HEAVY DUTY SUPER CAPACITY PLUS

by Debbie
(Arlington, TN)

My husband and I purchased this washer at Sears in February 1996 when we moved into our first house. We brought it with us when we moved in 2001.

We now have 10 year old twin boys and our trusty Kenmore washer finally played out after 12 1/2 years of reliable service. It has certainly seen its fair share of dirty laundry! Last week it just stopped in the middle of a load.

The spin cycle never started and the water would not drain. We decided that it would cost too much to call a repairman to the house considering the washer's age.

We researched the new front-loading models online, but just could not justify the cost difference. I found out from my local Sears appliance saleswoman that Whirlpool now manufactures Kenmore and Maytag.

She assured me that all three of these brands use Whirlpool technology, so there is very little difference between them. We purchased a Maytag top-loading 3.2 cu.ft. machine with a stainless steel basket for just under $500 to be delivered in 2 days.

Only time will tell if it will last as long as our Kenmore did. As for now, our 12 1/2 year old Kenmore dryer is still going strong, and I would recommend their appliances to anyone who's looking to get their money's worth out of a washer/dryer!

Kenmore 80 series

We moved into our house four years ago and this machine came with the house. I wasn't sure that it would last because it looked older and I didn't know how long the previous owner had it. It has continued to work well for us during that four years and does not have any problems. We do at least ten loads of laundry a week so it gets a fair amount of use and abuse.

We have not had any problems with it and enjoy the ability to choose the load size and the different settings for our clothes.

I like being able to use the delicate or heavy duty settings. This allows us to wash his dirty work clothes and my delicate summer wear!

My husband has a handyman business and often comes home covered in dry wall dust and other miscellaneous dirt and debris.

I have been very pleased with the Kenmore brand and would definitely consider buying another Kenmore appliance when this one wears out.

In this day and age where things seem to be made to be thrown out as soon as something breaks (and it seems to be something little that breaks soon after purchase), it's nice to have a reliable washer.

Kenmore 80 Series Top Loading Washing Machine

by Jeremy
(Muncie, IN)

My wife and I purchased a pair of Kenmore 80 Series Washer and Dryer in 2003. We have had nothing but trouble. Our first service call to replace a timer ($180)in the washer was shortly after the year warranty expired. A few months later the dryer broke down another service call($75). A year later we had a switch replaced ($75)in the washer and year and a half later the timer burned out of the washer again ($180), and today the transmission burned out on the washer ($45 service call). To replace transmission is over $300, so we bought another washer.

We had the washer fixed 3 times and the dryer once since we purchased this pair of Kenmores. We will avoid Kenmore in the future and advise others to steer clear. The obvious question is why did we keep getting the washer fixed instead of junking it a long time ago. The answer rests in the timing of the breakdowns and where we were with finances at the time. It was cheaper to pay the appliance repairman than spend another 400 or 500 dollars. Of course, we hoped that the repairs would last. They didn't and we finally purchased another brand.

We purchased a Whirlpool on the advice of the repairman, with the stipulation of getting one with few options as the more options you get the more likely it will breakdown.

Wish us luck.

Kenmore 80 series, heavy duty, super capacity, quiet pak

by Marge
(Albrightsville, PA)

I purchased this washer machine in 1997. It still works well! I have two small children and a husband in the construction business. As you could imagine, I have a lot of laundry! I do at least one load EVERY day.

It has a bleach dispenser and fabric softener dispenser. I don't have to worry about bleach spots on my clothes or forgetting to add the fabric softener.

It is large enough to wash blankets and a full load of large bath towels. It has a water level reset button that I find I use often.

I might start the wash off as a small load and then find some dirty clothes in my kids room at the last minute. With the water level reset switch, this is no problem. There are five cycles: Heavy Duty, Pre Soak, Delicate, Permanent Press and Normal.

That is really all you need. It loads from the top and the lid needs to be closed before it will move to the rinse cycle. Overall it is a great buy and the performance is excellent.

I never expected the washing machine to last this long. My husband and I will never purchase a brand other than Kenmore. It is a brand we can trust.
