Planned Obsolesence.. by: Anonymous
I bought a used kenmore 70 series high cap washer, heavy duty in 1995 and it still runs. The trick here is to understand that the washer was reconditioned and it still is running 15 years later.
The only problem it has right now is that it is belt drive, and when the spin cycle starts I hear a loud cracking sound when the spin cycle kicks in.
Called a repairman and he said the machine may be too old to mess with, so I am going to buy the next step up. The 80 series SCHD Washer and hope it lasts the same amount of time.

KENMORE 80 by: Curtis NY
We have had the machines for over 11 years.. the washing machine decided to overfill... just this month.. went to purchase another one but was not prepared to spend that much money.. so I decided to fix it.. I took the whole thing down.. found out the pressure hose had come off.. and while I was down there I also realized that the three pins (dowels) had dropped down, so I pushed them up and it balances very well in the spin cycle... the fabric softener hose came off.. but I decided I didn't, want to tear it down AGAIN.. so I left it off.. and just put the softner in as I always did before when ever I wanted too... very good machines... praying that hey will never end.. .

i have one too by: Anonymous
I just finished installing a new lid switch (the old one cracked). I've had this washing machine since 1997 and have had no problems. Typical life span, I've been told, is 14 years for a washer. This one is 12 now and this is the only repair I've had to make.
