Get that Grease out of my Clothes

If you have ever worked on a car, you may have gotten grease or oil on a pair of pants or a shirt and never been able to fully get it out.

A little tip for getting out grease on fabrics is to pour on some dishwashing liguid that is especially good for cutting through grease.

Dawn is one brand that is especially good to use. Just saturate the greasy stains with Dawn, and then wash as usual.

Another product that cuts through grease is shampoo. Try the Dawn and a good get-the-grease out shampoo like Wella and see which one works better for you.

This trick also works if you spill olive oil or salad dressing which contains oil on your clothes!

Shampoo on clothes to cut grease
by: Anonymous

Make sure your shampoo does not have coloring in it. I used children s shampoo with a red color & now instead of the grease stain, I have 2 articles of clothing with large red stains.

Great idea, but be careful!
by: Anonymous

This is a wonderful idea, but can cause problems in a high-efficiency washer - best to use in a sink and rinse thoroughly to avoid to many suds in the machine (which leaves a residue on clothes) - but then, this kind of defeats the HE efficiency if you have to use that much water prior to washing...

This Works!!
by: Kay

I swear by Dawn dish detergent to use as a grease fighter on clothes. It removes all types of grease and is good for the toddlers who are constantly wiping their greasy fingers on their clothes. I use Dawn on all my greasy stains and it really and truely does work.

I have tried this on set in oil stains and it really does work. I was very impressed that it works on set in old stains.

"Murphy's Oil Soap"
by: Anonymous

I have had great luck pretreating fabrics with "Murphy's Oil Soap". I work a little bit into the stained area, let it sit for 20 or so minutes, and then launder as usual. I discovered this when the kids ski jackets would come home with greasy stains after a day of skiing. I tried several commercial pre-treatment products to no avail, but was quite pleased with the results after using the method above. Of course, when trying anything new, one should test an inconspicuos area of the fabric before treating the entire garment!

Get Grease Out of My Clothes
by: Patty

Shampoo works on a lot of stains. My favorite grease buster is talc or corn starch or even flour. Put it on the grease stain, like spaghetti sauce and it will soak up the grease. Let is dry for a few minutes, then use shampoo or detergent as usual.

This totally works!

This totally works! I had this darn oily spot on my favorite blouse that would just never come out until I tried shampoo that was meant for greasy hair! I can't belive it worked, but it really did.
