    Don't buy GE NEW
    by: Anonymous JB

I purchased the storage draw ($250) that goes under the washer. It is located in the basement where the floor slants to the drain. I had to constantly push it back to the wall. All of the shaking finally broke the drawer. After tossing the draw the shaking wasn't as bad. The kids broke the door ($240). I won't spend any more money in this machine. I will not buy another GE product and never a front loader because of of this product. I have to constantly replace igniters and sensors on the matching GE dryer.

I cannot wait to be able to afford another washer. I can't remember how long I've had this beast but I absolutely dispise doing laundry with it!! It's smells, foul, and it now occaisionally leaking from the bottom, very stinky water. I do the basket clean about once a month, but what is the point?

I am very disappointed that Consumer Reports recommended this washer at the time I was looking. I will probably never buy another GE appliance again. And especially not a front loader.

This machine is the worst. I have had the repair person out so many times and it still walks all over the floor. They tell me it's the way I fill the load. That is NOT true. I have tried everything possible. I'll NEVER buy GE again.

    I hate this machine.

    by: Anonymous

I have had this machine for over 3 years and all of suddent it went bad. I paid service folks $99 but to my surprise they gave me a repair estimates over $1000. Why would I buy a machine which I have to replace in 3 years?

As long machine works, it is good. Any small problem may be end of it's life.

After owning this POS machine for 3 years, we have waived the white flag and are sending it to the trash. It regularly walks across the floor with any kind of load, towels, jeans, whites, no matter.

When the repair people come out they fill it with water and say it is balanced and look it spins great...REALLY it is empty!!! We have been told to do bigger loads so we do, this doesn't work. Then a mixed load, and it can't balance then either.

Got a steam LG and will not buy another GE product ever again. This one was bought on the recommendation of Consumer Reports, who given the number of complaints identical to this one, failed.

    Shaking Problem Solution
    by: Walter P. Grabda

I had terrible problems with this model shaking its way across the floor. After several complaints to G.E. they came up with a solution. Their solution was they replaced the machine for $238.16 and they threw in an additional year on the manufacturer's warranty. I went along with the offer and as of this writing, I have not experienced a single incident of the washer shaking and moving or any other issues.

Enough people must have compalined and they "re-engineered" the design. I am giving the "devil" his due. I am still doubtful of any future purchases of G.E. products but for this issue, I am satisfied.......so far.

I agree with everyone on here -- machine has been nothing but trouble. Thinking of junking it rather than calling a repairman to fix the door boot. At a price of $162 for the part, I'm thinking it's time to cut my losses.
Will NEVER buy a GE or a front loader again. I have had two -- neither has lasted more than 3 years. They have all been a pain. Wishing I had bought my mother's that lasted 20 years.

    soapy water in door seal.
    by: Anonymous

Just purchased this GE washer and every time I do a load of wash there is soapy water laying in the door seal. I have about 1/2 cup of water just laying there. I know this will eventually start to mold if I forget to wipe it out!!! Think I will return it and purchase a Samsung washer. My daughter loves hers. Any thoughts on what to buy???

    Terrible Problem with Shaking
    by: Walter P. Grabda

I purchased this machine two years ago and have had considerable trouble with the machine "walking around. It is on a concrete floor and has been leveled with two different levels; a two foot and a four foot.

When the repairman comes out he checks the machine empty. Then states it is working as designed. When I tell him that I bought the machine to work, not sit there and look pretty he stated that they are instructed to test the machine empty.

I insisted that he watch what happens when the machine has some clothes in it and he saw the machine lift off the floor about 1/2 inch and start to dance around. That did not change his report he still reported it functioning normally.

I then contacted GE who offered to replace the machine for an additional $238.16 which is about half of what I paid for the machine when I bought it on sale. Of course my extended warranty (3 more years) becomes voided.

I cannot recommend this machine to anyone who is looking for a washing maching which will balance itself properly. I will never buy a GE product again.

WARNING - Don't waste your money
    by: Anonymous

Purchased the GE model wcvh6800j1ww washer in September 2009 from a local appliance store. The washer was delivered and installed by the people from the appliance store. We have been trying to get this washer either repaired or replaced since the first time we used it! No matter what we do, the washer does not spin out properly. The spin cycle will begin, then it will stop, then it will start again, then it will stop and start again, then repeat, repeat, repeat...It will eventually manage to complete the spin cycle but it takes two to three HOURS for each load of laundry. We've tried all different combinations and amounts of clothing. It makes no difference. We've had the repair people from the appliance store here to try to get it fixed. They can not get the machine to work any better than we can, yet they just tell us that we are not loading the washer properly and there's nothing wrong with the washer. We've had front load washers previously and had no problems with using the washer for over ten years. I think we know how to use a front load washer. The problem is a lemon of a washer, not how we are using it but we can't get the appliance dealer, who is an authorized GE dealer and repair agency to take responsibility and do anything about a brand new washer that is A PIECE OF JUNK!!!

worst washing machine I've ever owned!
    by: Anonymous

This is absolutely the worst washing machine I've ever owned. Have had problems with clothes not being wrung out enough to go into the dryer. After putting through the spin cycle again, clothes are still very wet! And the smell is so bad that I can hardly stand it anymore! I've tried everything and nothing works for very long! After washing a twin size light weight blanket, the basket squeaks really bad in the spin cycle. It also will not balance itself like my last machine. My husband just told me he's junking it and buying me a new one. You can bet it won't be another GE! In fact, I'll never buy anything GE again after this!

    Design Deficiencies ...Dah!!!
    by: Anonymous

Misery loves company. Bought this model, and matching dryer, May 2011 based on salesman recommendations. Two weeks later it leaked all over the laundry room floor. Five repair visits later, 2 main control boards later (plus several misc parts), I concur with all on the forum who despise this machine. The washer is simply junk. Won't spin a (single)bath mat; couldn't spin a (single) queen blanket, clothes are often smelly even when removed immediately. Completely unacceptable that GE hasn't recalled and replaced at n/c with a better model, rather than cover up and pretend it works as specified. What agency is supposed to represent consumers who have fallen into this little trap?

I have had my GE washer (wcvh6800j1ww)for less than two years. This machine will not spin out three towels without jumping and banging trying to balance itself. Everytime it tries to balances itself out it adds minutes to the wash. This is not what I signed up for. I have been very disappointed in this model. I strongly recommend that you stay away from this washer.

Same issues as everyone else. We have had the machine for about 3 years or so. We had the rubber boot replaced once while on warrantee. It is torn again and needs replacement. The machine has leaked for several weeks now. The timing mechanism has been ineffective since our purchase. It seems to get stuck on 1 minute forever. We recently had problems with the machine 'cutting out' midway through the wash cycle. The repairman says we need a new drive motor. We didn't know if we had a 'dud' or the machines are faulty until reading these reports. We will be shopping for a non GE washer this weekend to cut our losses.

    Stinky Machine!!!
    by: Anonymous

I have had my machine for 2 years. After using my machine for 7 months, I started noticing a really strong moldy smell. I called the GE Service Contract people about this, and they recommended using Affresh - several uses, smell kept coming back. Then I had a service repairman come out to fix a door boot, and he said that I should use Washer Magic - once a week for 4 weeks(at $12.13 a pop)- $49.00 for one month - a bit pricey - and it only mildly took care of the problem (for 2 weeks). Smell is back. I clean out the inner seal, leave the door open, wipe it out after every use... now what! It also bounces around when spinning. My friend who is in the appliance repair business in Indiana said that they get many calls on the GE front loaders, for all kinds of problems. I never had a problem with their top loader (but that was an old machine - much sturdier)- Unfortunately, that went along with my house when I sold it and moved. I feel that GE has alot of glitches to work out with this machine, and unfortunately they are passing the expense on to the consumer until they can figure out what in the heck they are going to do to remedy the problem - it shouldn't be costing that much in "anti-stinky" maintenance! It's a WASHING MACHINE! - It shouldn't stink! Unfortunately, the smell is drifting out into my kitchen and into my walk-in closet. They should've supplied a mask recommended by the EPA for cleaning out the smelly thing! Anyone know if Bosch is a good brand? This one is going to have to go.

Dont buy this wash machine it is off balance all the time and will walk itself out into the hall. I actually have to stay home and supervise this machine to make it doesnt bash into my walls. it ready was scratched up the dryer. I have leveled it several times. doesnt seem that the level is off more like to ability to regulate its basket balance during washing. I hope this helps. Its a very bad investment. I have workman coming out tomorrow because all the jumping around will loosen the internal parts and mother board. Its like throwing away money I dont have!

I am having the same problems that every one else has posted on this review site. I also have owned this set for 2 1/2 years and have had countless repairmen 'try' to 'fix' the problems that I am having, just to have them say 'there is nothing wrong...ie there is nothing to be fixed, the GE maching just is made that way. I have had the machines leak from behind, leak detergent from the front door, mildew around the inside rim, my clothes smell after washing, and last, but not least, the washing maching shakes so uncontroably that it has put a hole in the wall, it moves back and forth (on level tile floor) and now the leg broke last week from all the shaking!!! PLEASE someone just take the the piece of junk!!! My recommendation: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

    DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE
    by: Anonymous

Stay away. We have had this machine for a few years now and it is awful. I had high expectations from the start and I was very disappointed. We started noticing an odor from the washer, even after cleaning the rubber on the inside plus using bleach on an empty load. Multiple times and it doesn't go away. It leaves our clothes smelling awful sometimes if we don't remove them RIGHT AWAY. Our service contract had expired so luckily my husband is really handy after the washer stopped spinning one day with a full load of laundry in it. After opening up the washer, we found out where the smell had been coming from all along. The bottom of the washer!!! It was the most rotten putrid smell one could imagine. After he cleaned and repaired the machine, it was fine for awhile and now it's back to it's stinky self again. I am saving up for a new washer and dryer set. I cannot wait.
    Look elsewhere for a washer!

DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. It takes at least 90 minutes to do one normal load of clothes, and you need to separate the load into 2 or 3 loads for the dryer because the clothes are too wet to do in one load. There is no energy savings because of the washing and drying times.

    Do Not Buy This Washer!!!
    by: Anonymous

I have hated this washer since I brought it home 7 months. It was such a struggle getting it up t the second floor laundry room that I thought I was stuck with it. I wanted to hire some movers to take the thing to my basement and bring my old regular washer upstairs. I really, really regret not doing that now that my oak floors and staircase outside my laundry room were completely flooded by this piece of crap. I ran a cleaning cycle through the machine and the door came open when the machine was over halfway full of bleach water and completely flooded my upstairs and I have water dripping from the ceiling below (and that is with a floor drain in the laundry room). I am not going to have a repairman come out to my home and possibly flood everthing again. The washer is too load, takes too long, it stinks all of the time, does not clean clothes well, and the clothes stink too. GE should be help accountable for selling such a piece of junk. My plan is to take the machine apart and get rid of the junk.

We purchased this washer about a year ago. Within the first few uses we noticed a bad smell like mildew coming from inside the washer. We had a GE repair man come out, he removed the bottom panel and drained excessive water from the machine! We have not been able to put the panel back on because we have to open the drain to get ride of disgustingly horrid smelling water, every wash!!!!
I hate this machine and GE has been of no help to fix the situation accept to charge us for service calls so they can come out to do the same thing we have been doing.

It's bad when you have a washer you can't use. Less than 3 years old, our washer takes forever and constantly goes through rebalancing cycle and after 3 times stops with wet clothes. We just paid $100 to have a tech say it's fine, but I said the problem happens when you have a washer with clothes in it, not empty. Now we wait another week to get our guarenteed service with a G.E. tech. At least the service is free if they need to come back within 30 days. But what a pain in the butt. We have the same washer down stairs and it works much better. Still off balance a bit, but clothes will spin out at top speed and be the right dampness to be put in the dryer.
