Since my husband and I were married, we have been using used washing machines and dryers handed down to us from family members. This changed when we bought our new home. For the first time we bought a brand new washing machine with a dryer to match.
Our washing machine is a GE and so far as been great for my laundry needs. It is a top loading machine and is pretty basic in regards to settings and options. This machine features 3 buttons for load size, temperature and cycle selection.
I am able to choose between 3 load sizes, small, large and super. I am able to set the temperature controls to cold, warm or hot. However, the rinsing cycles are always done in cold water. There are nine cycles to choose from for both casual and white washes.
I am unsure of the exact load capacity of this washing machine, but I am able to easily wash quilts and blankets, with the exception of king sized comforters. We are a family of four and I am able to keep up with my washing duties easily.
I have used both powder and liquid detergent in this washing machine. Due to recent household budgeting changes, I am mostly using powder detergent. It seems to perform fine with both types. Although cheaper brand powder clumps up, I assume this has nothing to do with the machine because name brands do not do this. I also use a laundry softener which I put into a ball. This also performs fine in the machine.
In the past, I have had issues with machines becoming off balance very easy. I have had this machine for over a year and it has been off balance only one time while washing blue jeans. This was easily resolved and the washing machine showed no signs of damage.
I do have one complaint. The knob on the wash cycle selection does not properly turn. I am unsure if this is something that I have unknowingly done or if it is a common issue with this machine.
It can be very difficult to turn at times. Overall, I am really satisfied with the performance of my GE washing machine.
