GE WBVH5300 Front Load Washer

check mark

Product Overview

One of the most celebrated features of this washer is its Energy Star compliance that makes it an energy-efficient home item to have at home. Aside from the benefits of being environmentally friendly, in using this washer, consumers can help save on energy cost.

In terms of loading capacity, the GE WBVH5300 can accommodate more loads wth its 4 cu. ft. size, which is ideal for large families or anyone who does heavy washing or has drapes or bedding to wash week after week.

This front-loading washing machine has a LED indicator that shows the cycle that is currently in progress. This way, users don't have to worry much about their laundry or even keep coming back just to check.

The HydroMotion wash action system of this washer offers a more thorough cleaning performance, which is achieved through the reversal wash action. Its efficiency also comes from its ability to track water pressure and store information from previous cycles through its Adaptive Logic System. The recorded information is then used by the washer to calculate optimal cycle times. These intuitive features take away much of the responsibility from the user.

To best care for the fabric, the GE WBVH5300 has the PerfectTemp management system that controls the temperature of the water. The fabric is well taken care of because aside from its PerfectTemp system, it also has four options for wash/rinse temperature, which is truly helpful in effectively removing dirt and even stains. This could also aid the slowing down of the wear and tear process of the fabric.

Another good feature of this washing machine that users would really find useful is the spin/speed combination. This makes washing more effective by enabling the users to alternate the speed of the spin. If users have no need for heavy and thorough washing, they can opt for the other speed washing controls of the GE WBVH5300.

This washer also has up to 14 wash cycles and has a delay option for soaking the laundry a little longer or for leaving it for a while. With its 1000 RPM spin speed, this washer really works fast without causing any damage to the fabric. A special insulating material allows for its silent spinning. It works just as hard as
any washer but doesn't whine as much.

Advantages

Because of its numerous features, many consumers are really impressed by this washer. According to them, these features help in the thorough washing of the laundry as well as in making the task easier.

This washing machine can handle king-size comforters or 24 full bath towels with efficiency. Among the most advantageous features of this washer according to some is its reversing wash action that results in deeper cleaning.

The speed alternating option is also a favorite feature of many users because, like the reversing wash system, this can also aid in the easy removal of dirt and stains on the fabric.

Aside from the noise muffler of this washer, its energy efficiency is also one of its major benefits. People can save some money from their utility bills when using this front loader.

sad face

Disadvantages

While there are many advantages to this GE front-loading washer, some consumers have also cited some disappointments. With its large size (42 ½" height, 27" width, and 31 ¼" depth), this washer is a bit bulky and hard to fit into spaces. It takes up a large space in the laundry room.

This model is also available only in white and stainless colors, which are very limited compared with washer models from other brands. This front loader costs around $799; some shoppers think it's a bit pricey.

Final Thought

Before buying this washer, one has to make sure that he or she has weighed the pros and cons of using this washing machine. For style-conscious buyers, this front loader is not the best choice out there because of its limited colors, large size, and typical design.

But when it comes to performance, the GE WBVH5300 proves to be a dependable home appliance. It cleans well, takes less time to finish the task, and has useful program buttons and features that take away much of the burden of laundry washing from users.

All in all, it is still a good option for a front-loading washer despite its drawbacks.

Such a low quality product from GE. Never Again NEW
by: Erick

I have the same as most of the other comments. This washer has the lowest quality of any washer.
I cant understand how GE can get away selling this low quality product.
They know all the related issues on this washer: defective bearings$800.00 to repair, defective door seal $300.00 to repair, defective board $600.00 to repair.
I need to mention that the GE refrigerator i bought only lasted 3 years.
I will never again buy any GE product!!!

When It finally does, the clothes is soak and wet, so I have to drain and spinn again. Also if I leave clothes for 10 min after is done ,the clothes smells damp. This is so ridiculous.Do GE reads these comments? Do they care?Never in my life, I will buy a GE product.

Start Thinking Speed Queen NEW
by: Nick

I'm a repairman and I have seen leaks, bad bearings, bad boards and so on. Try to go to the mechanical timers like the top load washers had from your parents generation. The old technology tried and true is leaving us. Buy Speed Queen to go back to the old times.
Don't think you will save on efficiency with electricity and water with new front loaders. Once I show up with the bill you will wish you had spent your saved efficiency dollars on washes with Speed Queen.

Hate it!!!!
by: Soko

This washing machine is the worst!!! I can't stand doing laundry now. Tonight a simple load that consists of shorts, t shirts, socks and undies ( not even jeans!) is taking 4+ hours. I'm in bed waiting for it to be done so I can finally pop it in the dryer. Every time I have a load to do it takes 2+ hours. I have to babysit my machine because it PAUSES and the light is blinking and i have to go hit start. I do this about 12 times per load it's ridiculous. We've called so many times about it and all we get is we have to balance the load ourselves by sticking our hand in and balance out the wet clothes. Shouldn't have to do that anyways! Takes forever to drain. It will have 1 minute left and it will pause and even when we hit start it'll sit there doing NOTHING before it drains and the load is done. I've never had an appliance make me cry out of frustration until we bought this piece of sh*t. I will never buy GE again. OH YEAH! And the fabric softener doesn't even drain into a cycle. Nothings clogged but it just doesn't spray it into the load. There is nothing good about this machine.

Ge frontloader~Straight Garbage Machine!
by: Anonymous

This was by far the WORST Washing machine I've owned. Ge should be ashamed to put out such junk. an hour and a half to wash one load when it did work. They make them to brake down so you keep having to by parts and new machines. Mine lasted less than a year and nobody could figure out why water would not fill the unit. 375 worth of repairs and parts later and half of the repair guys didnt even charge me because they felt bad I was stuck with what they all called the worst machine ever..it's going to the scrap yard. NEVER by a Ge frontloader. I'm going back to a whirlpool toploader they are made to last.~~~DON'T BUY GE~~~

Washer sucks
by: Anonymous

We were totally sold on this set from the lady at home depot going on about how it saves so much water and electricity. It takes forever to do a load! How in the world can that save on electric? Ours was stopping at certain times in the wash or rice cycle. Repairs are a joke and don't help but waste time. My husband did some research and he took the bottom cover off (just a few screws) and there is a catcher unit that you can twist off and clean out. Ours was full of stuff and once we cleaned it out, it would wash without stopping. Still takes forever to wash a load! But, if your unit is stopping in the middle of wash or rince cycle, I would suggest cleaning that catcher unit out.
It's a horrible washer and GE doesn't stand by their products. It is the last GE product we will ever own! We won't buy anything GE again. Nor will we recommend any products by GE! I will make sure to warn people on their products even in the store if I see someone looking at a GE product! Better warn people so they aren't in the same position as us!

Please do not buy this washer. It is worse than a piece of junk! The regular cycle time is an hour and a half and the clothes still do not come out clean. My whites are no longer white they are dingy. Some of the clothes turn out with a moldy-mildewy smell. The door seal ripped out of place and so now it is completely unusable. Don't waster your money.

I agree with the commenter who said it sounds like a "FREIGHT TRAIN" We have had several service calls and each time we are told I can't find a problem. I am too very upset because I put in a load of clothes at 5:30am and when I was ready to walk out the door for work at 6:50 it stillwasn't finished!! Commenters are right you can't leave the clothes in their all day because they will have a smell and then you've got wash all over agian and listen to the darn thing!! Better than some
by: Anonymous

I have had my washer dryer set for 2 years and loved it. I had the banging problem at first but i figured that out. You can't wash a small load.
For the money i spent i think i did ok. My issue is now that it's taking 2 hours on a load of clothes. It seems my is sticking between 28 minutes and 32 minutes. I hope it doesn't cost me a fortune but we will see. I can wash on different cycles and it's fine though. For the people who have the odor problem just leave the door open when your done everytime and that's it. Overall i'm happy with the dryer and ok with the washer. One way or another there will always be a issue with something. Nothing will ever be just perfect. Some people just over do it when leaving these comments.

waste of my time
by: Anonymous

I tried to schedule a service call online to address a torn rubber door seal. The GE webpage doesn't allow for it when there is a recalled part. So after waiting a week for the appt the tech replaced the recalled parts and told me I'd have to place another call. He stated the tear in the door seal could be done by a button or a piece of change going through the cycle at 1100 rpm and replacing it would cost around $480. Really? a button? I called 1800 GE CARES (cares about what?) only to be offered a service appt a week later and told my complaint would go into my file and not address the defective part. I chose to end my relationship with GE at that point and return to a Kenmore which had previously lasted me 25 years.

Piece of crap
by: ShilgenVens

I am returning the front load washer and dryer set that I just bought. The dryer works just fine. The washer should not be called a washer. It should be called a "damp moldifier". Are these machines not tested somewhere before they're foisted on customers? This "washer" takes WAY too long to wash a load, doesn't properly clean or rinse clothes, it is impossible to balance, and keeping it from developing the "stinky washer smell" is a full-time job. I have never been so dissatisfied with a purchase in my life.

Works Great for Me!
by: Sustainable One

I haven't had the balancing problems other have noted, perhaps they failed to remove the shipping bolts from the rear of their units (these long bolts hold the drum in place during shipping) that is otherwise supported by shock absorbers.

No noise or banging ever comes from my unit and it reliably completes it cycles within the times stated on the digital controller, typically 50 to 60 minutes per load.

About 8 months after purchase it started to leak when the filling with water - I went on line, scheduled a service call for the following day. The soap/softener/bleach dispenser was cracked and will be replaced at no charge next week when the part comes in. The serviceman guessed that it got cracked by an unbalanced load lending some creedence to the complaints of others.

Perhaps I don't have this problem often because I usually do full loads of multiple items that allows the weight to be more evenely distributed when spinning. My water use and dryer time is a fraction of what it was with my top loader so the unit is paying for itself every time I use it.

I was able to buy it new for less that $500 at Home Depot when they were clearing their inventory so I am happy with this purchase.

Thanks goodness I am not alone in my despising of my GE front loading wash machine! It bangs around so bad it sounds like it will take the house apart. I can only use one tablespoon of HE detergent or there will be suds in the door! I can't spin the water out of a load of towels because it is chronically off-balance. The thing takes at least 1.5 hours to wash a simple load. I loathe this machine, I, too, used to love to wash laundry, now I despise it! My whites are all gray now! Uggghhhh.

We have had ours for 1 1/2 years (GE replaced the washer after repeated service calls but the new washer is just as bad). There is a design defect in this washer. Crazy washer
by: ccrocker

This washer is the worst! I have had mine for a little over 2 years. I have had the repair people out as well because no matter what I do, I can't get the thing balanced. The last repair person showed my why during his last visit. The tub is out of whack even when you spin it empty! He told me that he had purchased one, and sold it because it had so many problems. As far as "getting a refund" goes, GE will claim there is nothing "wrong" with the unit. I will never purchase another GE appliance again. The customer service is a nightmare, they act like you are lying when you call with problems! I have a job, husband and two kids. Trust me, this is NOT how I want to spend my PTO!!

Long wash times
by: Anonymous

I've had a few issues with this front loader (my first), I also had some issues with my top-loader, so nothing is perfect.

I do get a smell in the washer, but I've changed my water system, cleaned things out and leave the washer open. It takes a combination of many things to get rid of the smell, so that's an annoyance.

The long wash times is what I was hoping to figure out. It has a display to tell you how much time. I put in a load around 8am. The display said it would be 1:09. So I'm expecting by 9:15 it would be done. No such luck. It's now after 10am (2 hours) and the display still says it's over 20 minutes left. I've even seen the display stop for a while and even get longer. I have no idea why.

Average time in my top-loader was 45 minutes. Average time in this front loader is a bit over 2 hours.

I also have the spinning/clunking issue (just like in my top-loader). The difference is that the larger the load, the less likely it is for the front loader to go off balance. That was the opposite for my top-loader. So now I only do large loads of laundry (especially when towels or sheets are involved).

I've had this unit for 2 years.

It does do a good job and I love the efficiency of the water.

Think before you buy...
by: Anonymous

If you expect a leak-free, time efficient, quiet washer then DO NOT buy this particular unit. Front loaders leak. Maybe not in the first 6 months- but they all leak at some point. This unit extends wash and spin times to the point where a regular load can easily take 2 hours to complete. There is no such thing as a "speed wash" cycle on this baby. Forget the repair calls. It will never work the way you expect it to work. We have decided to replace this beast with a conventional large capacity top loader that actually does what you want it to do, when you want it done.

JUNK
by: Anonymous

I agree this unit is junk. We've not even had it a year yet. It worked well at first, but it started jumping around on me as well. It's not like I'm overstuffing the thing. It is HUGE and when it jumps around, it sounds like a freight train coming from the laundry room. I've also had issues with it pausing mid-wash. So a wash that shold take 59 minutes is taking several hours, even a full day if I'm not right there to babysit it. It also skips the rinse/drain cycle, so I have to manually go in and program it to do it because the clothes are soaking wet!! I'm totally frustrated. I have two tiny children, I am nine months pregnant and my husband is in Iraq. I don't have time for this. I'm calling the store.

We also have the dryer and, so far, it works well.

Disgusted as well
by: Anonymous

Was glad to see someone else had trouble with this piece of crap as well. I can't wash towels in mine, it won't stop jumping and crashing into walls. It's level, been professionally checked and the same results of jumping and crashing all over the place. Doesn't matter how big the load is of towels, they all get tangled causing sevre unbalancing. When the wash finally stops about 2 hours later then yeah they don't take long to dry but not worth it.

Total waste of money. I have never felt so robbed in my life.

Wash times.
by: Anonymous

Front load washers without a doubt take longer to wash, but while doing this they are using very little water. Also when they are done the entire laundry process is drastically shortened due to the fact that most of the water is spun out of the clothes. This brings the drying process down to 30 minutes or less compared to an hour and a half from a traditional top load washer. Your energy savings come from your dryer not working so hard.

Worst Purchase Ever..Disgusted
by: C. O'Donnell

This is my first front load washer. I was initially excited about getting it; although it was a replacement for a top load (that only lasted 5 years from brand new).

PROS:
- Big Capacity,
- Spins Clothes Almost Dry & Spins Both Ways, Delay Start,
- Extra Rinse

CONS:
- Spendy $800 & Additional Warranty,
- very heavy @ 248 lb.

You can make sure it is ALL level and it will still jump all over the place; no matter what size load you put in it so I can't do laundry without being in the house.

It takes longer time to even just wash a load, compared to my old washer. For every setting you change it adds time. Just for regular wash you are looking at an hour. You have NO control over the water settings. It doesn't get all the soap out, even if you are only using 1 Tablespoon of recommended "H.E." soap per load!

If you put soap in and set on delay, the soap sometimes runs out the front door. Extra Rinse on every load, and sometimes still doesn't get the soap out, so it's just using more water, and time/electric. The Bleach tray, be very careful..if you have carpet, you will spill bleach more than once.

How can it be "H.E." if it uses more time/electric & more water for extra rinse/options, or same water for small & large loads???? I do laundry daily and never minded it...and now I hate doing laundry, or even looking at the machine! What a waste.
